Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/1/2009 7:00 AM 0.10 M M M M Estimated times. I was asleep when the heaviest rain fell. Frequent lighting north and east at 1:40AM. Then, some lighting developed near by with a light shower around 1:50AM Estimated peak wind about 40 MPH with some small branches down.
10/2/2009 7:00 AM 0.31 M M M M A thunderstorm after 10 AM dropped an estimated .20 inch more rain on the south side of our farm and on River Sioux than in our rain gauge. Small hail fell in and around Mondamin. The temperature fell to 54 from 60 within an hour after the cold front passed about 11 AM.
10/3/2009 7:00 AM 0.11 M M M M Light rain and showers fell off and on all day. It would take a lot of space to record when the heaviest rain fell. Estimated peak wind gusts were 35 to 40 MPH with temperatures remaining between 43 and 47 degrees.
10/4/2009 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M So far, the morning low is 29 degrees.
10/5/2009 7:00 AM T M M M M More sprinkles around 7 AM. The light shower Sunday night lasted only a few minutes.
10/6/2009 7:00 AM 0.34 M M M M The rain was showery and the heaviest fell when I was asleep. Partly cloudy with the moon visible at 7 AM.
10/7/2009 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Morning low was 31 degrees.
10/8/2009 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M I slept through the rain. My guess is most fell between 2AM and 6 AM.
10/9/2009 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Morning low was 30 degrees.
10/10/2009 7:00 AM 0.06 1.1 0.06 1.0 0.06 Morning temperature is 27 degrees with only a few still falling snow flakes. The visibility was under a mile at times. Our road is partly snow covered with wet ruts. We have enough snow for cross country skiing. Trees in leaf are covered with snow.
10/11/2009 7:00 AM 0.01 0.1 0.01 M M Occasional morning snow was too light to restrict visibility much, but it dusted my cross country ski tracks fairly quickly. Low was 22 before clouds moved over. A few snow patches remain in shaded areas and on our roof.
10/12/2009 7:00 AM 0.08 0.7 0.08 1.0 0.08 What appeared to be moderate snow with large flakes ended before I was out at 6 AM. There is enough snow on our harvested bean field for cross country skiing which is what I will do when I finish this. The temperature has risen to 32 from 31 degrees.
10/13/2009 7:00 AM T T T M M The visibility fell to as low as 2 miles at the peak but was mainly three to five miles. Better visibility south. A dusting accumulated. Morning low was 26.
10/14/2009 7:00 AM 0.19 0.2 M M M Sleet and later wet snow fell especially around 8:30 PM through 9PM with some of the heavier showers after 4:15 PM. Brief attempts at accumulation on cars. I collected some to measure on frozen food I placed on top of a car.
10/15/2009 7:00 AM 0.15 M M M M Morning fog.
10/16/2009 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M I slept through the rain. It probably fell between 2 and 6 AM, but that is just a guess.
10/17/2009 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Mostly sprinkles and fine steadier rain fell especially around 8 to 10 PM.
10/18/2009 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/19/2009 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M

The four inches accumulated on grass and stalk fields with less on bare ground. Some melted from the bottom up. Because of that, I think an extra inch fell between 1:30PM and 5PM, but I can't prove it. My ski tracks had a new inch of snow, but the actual snow depth near the tracks was unchanged or a half inch lower. It is 21 degrees.

After 10:15, the storm appeared to spread slightly east with a dark cloud band above and a west wind 15 to 35 MPH after an east wind gusted to about 40 MPH. The wind became variable, and after 11:15, another thunderstorm was southeast of us. Another appeared to suddenly develop overhead again with almost continuous lightning. The wind shifted to the south, and it sounded like a little hail or large raindrops. I didn't see any hail. The wind shifted to northeast after the storm passed to our north. It was a spectacular, photogenic lightning display.
