Total is remainder of most prolific and destructive rainstorm to have struck Allen County since 1969. Flash flooding has caused one fatality in the county. All major state roads traversing the county except Ky. 101, US 231 and US 31-E were at one point or other closed due to road and bridge submergence. School was cancelled for today, as bridges must be inspected and repaired before re-opening. As a photojournalist, I also witnessed a spectacular rescue from a flash flood of a man in a truck that had been swept off a roadway. The Scottsville Fire Department used a 110-foot firetruck ladder to create a bridge of sorts to him, getting him out just as his cab submerged. He suffered only non-life threatening injuries and mild hypothermia. Station total since first drops fell in pre-dawn hours of May 1 is 8.57. May 3 dawns partly cloudy and very steamy.
