Severe storm struck the area last night with a total of 6.68 inches of rain over the two day period. Last nights storm brought very severe winds, lots of damage as well as severe flooding. This am we even had a hail shower dropping .25 in hail. Peak gust last night here from the ENE (my most tree covered direction) 47 MPH. I heard gusts in the trees across the field to at least 60 MPH. This AM temp down to 35 degrees, partly cloudy and light ESE wind. |

Severe thunderstorm moved to our south last evening with impressive light show but only a trace of rain. Severe thunderstorms hit the area begining around 4:30 PM. Wind gust to 54 MPH, new 3 year record high gust for this station. Trees were nocked down, some up to 2 feet in diameter. Second violent storm hit about 1 hour later and lasted for over 1.5 hours. I have never had so many lightning strikes so close and continuously hitting around the station for over 20 minutes. Tornado warning was issued but we were on the north side with blinding rain and severe lightning. A barn over 150 years old was destroyed .8 miles to our east. Possible tornado damage in downtown Gorham. What a night! Things tappered off after 9 PM. |
