10/3/2009 7:00 AM 0.84 0.0 M 0.0 M Occluded frontal boundary slowly moved through the area on Friday, providing widespread rainfall throughout much of the day. Temperatures remained quite cool, with highs only in the upper 40s.
10/4/2009 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M Overall not a bad day on Saturday, with even a few brief peaks of sunshine in between weather systems (occluded front stuck north of the area). However, a few brief showers also noted through the day, sufficient to just barely measure.
10/5/2009 7:00 AM 0.23 0.0 M 0.0 M Colder air pushing into the area allowed for the development of light lake effect rain showers on Sunday, most notably through the late afternoon and evening hours.

10/9/2009 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M A narrow band of light showers moved through the area between 6 and 7 pm, producing just enough to measure.
10/10/2009 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M A few sprinkles from a broad area of rain just to the south snuck up this way around 6:30 pm on Friday - just enough to barely wet the ground.
10/11/2009 7:00 AM 0.04 T M 0.0 M First snowflakes of the year! Saturday started off very nice, with plenty of sunshine. However, things quickly changed with the approach of a strong cold front. Front arrived around 3:30 pm, with an initial push of light rain showers, which quickly changed over to a brief period of moderate snow, just enough to briefly whiten the ground. Just before sunset, sunshine returned, melting any remaining snow, however temperatures remained in the low 30s. Winter is coming!
10/12/2009 7:00 AM T T M 0.0 M Another period of light snow showers during the morning hours of Sunday, sufficiently to briefly whiten elevated surfaces, but not the grass. Otherwise, just a mainly cloudy afternoon and overnight.
10/13/2009 7:00 AM 0.19 0.2 M T M Clipper-type system dropping through the area produced the first measurable snow of the season. Snow began just after 4pm, but took a long time to accumulate thanks to temperatures holding in the middle 30s. After sunset, a slushy accumulation of snow took place. All in all, a great night to decorate outside for Halloween!

11/27/2009 7:00 AM 0.70 1.1 M 1.0 M Widespread Thanksgiving day rain briefly mixed with snow during the mid morning, but went back to rain for much of the day thanks to weak diurnal heating. Just after sunset, rain quickly changed to snow, and temperatures fell into the lower 30s, with snow accumulating fairly well on grassy surfaces. Deformation-driven snow wound down just after midnight but was gradually replaced by light lake effect as brief surge of colder air rolled into the area.

1/22/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 10.0 M After a beautiful, sunny day on Thursday, low clouds once again returned overnight thanks to Lake Huron, helping hold low temperatures only near 25 degrees. 3/11/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 3.0 M Deep low pressure spinning across the Tennessee Valley tried its best to spread increasing mid/high level cloudiness across the region on Wednesday, but failed miserably by early afternoon as just plain sunny skies broke out (thanks to a very dry airmass in place). Clouds did finally increase by early evening, along with a bit of very light rain just before 7pm, however this rain failed to measure more than a trace (just enough to wet down the pavement). Some rather dense fog noted around observation time as deeper moisture advanced into the area.
3/12/2010 7:00 AM 0.12 0.0 M T M Nearly a perfect late winter (more like early spring) day on Thursday, with filtered sunshine but temperatures finally cracking the 60 degree mark (after some early morning very dense fog up through about 9:30am). 3/13/2010 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M 0.0 M Plenty of low clouds, peristent light fog, and occasional light drizzle draped itself across the area on Friday, making for a more typical Gaylord March day. 4/1/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Happy April! It's no joke how dry we are around here, with a meager 0.16" falling last month, good enough for the driest March on record, which also followed the driest February on record as well. Since January 1, a total of 1.24" of precip has fallen...not good at all. Had quite a few fires around northern Michigan yesterday, and will probably only get worse the next few days. On the positive side, it was 73 degrees at this location for a high yesterday - incredible by late March standards.

4/4/2010 7:00 AM 0.42 0.0 M 0.0 M Some real rain!! We really needed this one. After a beautiful start to the day on Saturday, skies clouded up and rain overspread the area during the afternoon and early evening hours as a rather strong cold front pushed through the area. Temperatures fell quickly back into the upper 40s with the rain, staying there through the overnight hours, though skies rapidly cleared overnight.
4/5/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Another fantastic day on Sunday, though winds were very gusty out of the southwest, with dewpoints falling into the lower 20s once again (with very low humidity values). A rather interesting evening, as a broken band of showers pushed through the area, with very dry air down low supporting brief wind gusts to near 50 mph, which was enough to snap a few trees in the neighborhood. One of these trees even landed on a vehicle - not good. Unfortunately, no appreciable rain came from the showers either, with just enough to barely wet the ground at times. Mild conditions prevailed overnight, with lows only in the upper 40s.

7/15/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 0.0 M 0.0 M Just amazing how it won't rain convectively in this area sometimes. A series of 3 MCS features developed upstream yesterday evening, and tried their best to propagate into the area overnight, but never could make it thanks to a wedge of very dry air intact over much of Michigan. The remnants of the final MCS finally delivered an underperforming 0.02 inches of rain just before observation time, with an earlier shower delivering just a trace around 10pm yesterday.
7/16/2010 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M Can't believe we got missed by all the action. After yesterday morning's debacle of having 3 MCS features miss us (just a pathetic 0.02 inches), all of yesterday afternoon's activity fired to the east and south in advance of an approaching cold front as plenty of clouds limited instability. Did see just a brief shower clip this location right around noon, and it was rather humid throughout the afternoon hours (with dewpoints into the lower 70s). An approaching front put an end to the humidity by early evening as dewpoints fell into the middle 60s around 6 pm, with winds shifting northwest and turning a bit gusty (as skies cleared as well). A cooler night overnight, with lows into the lower 60s.
7/17/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A beautiful day on Friday, with low humidity but warm temperatures under mainly sunny skies (just a few afternoon cumulus noted). 7/19/2010 7:00 AM 0.06 0.0 M 0.0 M A decaying area of rain passed through the area during the late morning hours, leaving just plain cloudy conditions in its wake for the afternoon. Meanwhile, a warm front lifting north sparked renewed showers and storms along the M-55 corridor, some of which exhibited strong rotation. However, up this way, drier air (relatively speaking) kept additional showers well to the south, with even the approaching cold front by late evening failing to produce any rain. It just won't rain up here!! The overnight hours brought low stratus and a period of dense fog around 4 am, along with periodic drizzle, sufficient to measure 0.01 inches.
7/20/2010 7:00 AM 0.44 0.0 M 0.0 M Finally some needed rain, with a slow moving series of showers developing across this location around 3 am. Skies cleared rapidly by observation time, with sunshine noted at 7 am.

Rain fell rather heavily at times during the hour, before giving way to clearing skies overnight as a bit drier air entered the picture.
7/22/2010 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A perfect summer day on Wednesday, with relatively low humidity (dewpoints down into the upper 50s), nearly full sunshine, a bit of a breezy northwest wind, and highs right around 80 degrees. Comfortable into the overnight hours as well, with a low in the upper 50s.
7/23/2010 7:00 AM 0.98 0.0 M 0.0 M Another great soaker late Thursday afternoon and into the evening hours ahead of an approaching weak area of low pressure. Even heavier rain was noted just to the south of this location, but we'll take all we can get at this point. Rain never fell heavily but was quite steady between 6:30 and 8:30 pm. Temperatures held in the lower 60s beneath the rain.
7/24/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Clouds held tough throughout the day on Friday, though humidity levels were rather high with dewpoints holding either side of 70 degrees. Clouds continued into the overnight.
7/25/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 0.0 M 0.0 M An overall cloudy day on Saturday, giving way to a few showers for the afternoon as a weak system moved through. Skies cleared quickly after sunset, making for a rather comfortable night with lows down in the middle 50s.

7/28/2010 7:00 AM 0.13 0.0 M 0.0 M Another great day on Tuesday, with plenty of sunshine and slightly higher humidity levels. An approaching cold front brought quite the round of showers and storms across Wisconsin, but this activity (as usual) rapidly weakened during the overnight hours as it approached this area, leaving just a brief round of moderate rain around 3 am.

Humidity levels climbed through the day as dewpoints rose to around 70 (quite high for up here in northern Michigan). Skies finally cleared into the late evening and overnight hours, though plenty of haze/light fog remained.

8/6/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M The start of a nice cooldown began on Thursday with plenty of cumulus/stratocumulus firing off during the mid morning hours and continuing into the afternoon. Humidity levels were noticeably lower, with dewpoints mixing out into the lower 50s and a gusty northwest breeze. Some hint of lake effect cloudiness showed up for the first time late overnight, with a few sprinkles moving toward the area by observation time (but nothing fell up through 7 am).
8/7/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Quite the fall-like day on Friday as a refreshingly cool airmass overtook northern Michigan. The first vestiges of lake effect clouds rolled across the area during the mid morning, even depositing a few sprinkles. Otherwise, variably cloudy conditions were noted through the afternoon along with a nice northerly breeze, and dewpoints falling into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Bring on fall!! Overnight lows tumbled to 45 degrees under mainly clear skies, though lake effect clouds returned late (just before observation time).
8/8/2010 7:00 AM 0.20 0.0 M 0.0 M A warm front lifting toward the area on Friday provided a small uptick in heat and humidity, though dewpoints still held only in the 50s. A nice complex of showers and storms along the front upstream into Wisconsin/Minnesota during the late evening rolled into the area just after sunrise (around 6 am), though weakened quite a bit as it approached. Still, some briefly moderate rain and a few rumbles of thunder did make an appearance.

8/14/2010 7:00 AM 0.12 0.0 M 0.0 M A rather warm and humid day on Friday, though sunshine was quite limited during the afternoon thanks to plentiful high cloud cover (debris from upstream convection). A large area of showers/storms across Wisconsin during the evening largely died as it approached overnight, though a brief moderate shower developed right overhead just before observation time.
8/15/2010 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M 0.0 M Brief shower ended just after 7am Saturday, with increasing sunshine into the afternoon. Light fog/haze redeveloped after sunset, along with some low stratus.
8/16/2010 7:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M 0.0 M A great day on Sunday, with a notable dip in humidity through the afternoon as much drier air poured in through the afternoon. Colder air across the lake waters provided a round of lake effect rain showers, dropping a quick 0.05 inches of rainfall.
8/17/2010 7:00 AM 0.09 0.0 M 0.0 M An absolutely beautiful day noted on Monday, as a very dry airmass slid across the area, with dewpoints falling down into the 40s. Very gusty winds were noted from the west as well, with highs just barely cracking 70 degrees - fall can't be too far behind. Into the evening hours, a renewed shot of colder air across the warm lake waters in combination with an approaching shortwave brought a band of showers across the area, with rain briefly falling heavily and even a lightning strike noted. Skies then cleared rapidly overnight as high pressure approached and drier air again pushed into the area.
8/18/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Another beautiful day on Tuesday, with just some increase in high clouds through the early afternoon. Winds turned a bit gusty once again, peaking around 26 mph. Afternoon highs struggled to reach 70 degrees. Clear skies and light winds into the overnight hours allowed lows to dip into the upper 40s. Bring on fall!
8/19/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Wednesday was another great day, albeit just a bit warmer, though with still low humidity. Clouds slowly tried to increase overnight in advance of a cold front slowly sagging southward out the U.P. Showers and thunderstorms developed along this front, marching toward this location by observation time, but with no rain noted through 7 am.
8/20/2010 7:00 AM 2.19 0.0 M 0.0 M What a great rain, finally! Slow moving showers and thunderstorms drenched the area for about 90 minutes Thursday morning, giving way to increasing sunshine for the afternoon hours as dewpoints lowered into the upper 40s. High temperatures didn't make 70 degrees either - it felt great! Clouds slowly increased once again into the overnight hours.
8/21/2010 7:00 AM 1.59 0.0 M 0.0 M Another great rain Friday evening. An approaching upper wave/warm front gave way to a developing MCS feature (one of a very few that have visited this area over the past two years), that tracked through northern Michigan into Friday evening. Rain fell quite heavily at times, along with periodic lightning.

8/24/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Monday turned out to be quite the cloudy and gloomy day, thanks to plentiful low cloud cover stuck beneath a lowering subsidence inversion as high pressure built into the region. Even a touch of drizzle was noted just before observation time. High temperatures never cracked 70 through the day, which actually felt quite nice.
8/25/2010 7:00 AM 0.10 0.0 M 0.0 M Another rather gray day on Tuesday, with plentiful low clouds hanging tough throughout the day. Clouds finally broke by early evening, leaving a period of sunshine through sunset. An approaching cold front brought a narrow band of showers across the region just after midnight, with clouds lingering in its wake up through observation time.
8/26/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Quite the fall-like day on Wednesday, as a much cooler airmass rolled through the area. Winds turned increasingly gusty through the afternoon, with temperatures by early evening down into the upper 50s, making for a rather chilly night to go to the county fair (a good time though). A couple light showers floated through the area through the late afternoon as well. Clouds rapidly cleared into the overnight hours, with temperatures down into the middle 40s by sunrise.
8/27/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M What a beautiful day on Thursday, with just some flattened/fair weather cumulus through the afternoon and dewpoints falling down into the lower and middle 40s, as highs struggled to reach 70 degrees. 8/28/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Another beautiful day on Friday with a large area of high pressure building across the region. After a chilly start, highs warmed well into the 70s, though with low humidity levels persisting. 9/16/2010 7:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M 0.0 M Clouds thickened through the day on Wednesday, giving way to some light rain for the evening hours. Additional rain developed overnight but remained both east and west of the area, with a narrow corridor of "nothing" here at this location (and around Gaylord in general) - kind of interesting.
9/17/2010 7:00 AM 0.74 0.0 M 0.0 M Rather healthy round of rain moved through the area during the morning hours, giving way to lingering low clouds and developing drizzle and light fog through the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures also remained quite chilly, holding in the lower 50s through early afternoon before falling back through the upper 40s by 4:30 pm as drizzle intensified.
9/18/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A beautiful day on Friday with weak high pressure parked overhead. Sunshine was plentiful and winds were light through the day. Clouds thickened overnight in advance of an approaching cold front, with rain just upstream by observation time.
9/19/2010 7:00 AM 0.06 0.0 M 0.0 M A rather fast-moving cold front crossed the area during the mid morning hours, providing a brief round of showers as it passed. In its wake, a quick improvement in weather conditions was noted by late morning and through the afternoon as sunshine increased with much drier air advancing southward (dewpoints falling through the 30s). Clear skies and light winds overnight allowed temperatures to dip to near freezing, with plenty of frost noted on exposed surfaces. The low temperature at this location was 34 degrees.
9/20/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Another great day on Sunday, with plenty of sunshine and low dewpoints. Temperatures once again fell well into the 30s overnight, with the first instance of frozen dew noted on the deck this morning.
9/21/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M After a great start to the day on Monday, which saw widespread sunshine and comfortable temps/humidity levels, clouds thickened into the late afternoon and evening as a warm front lifted into the area. Despite an impressive surge of moisture, all we could muster was a brief shower around 8:45 pm.
9/22/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M A very warm day on Tuesday, as warm air flooded north in advance of an approaching cold front. That front acted to spark a round of showers and thunderstorms as it plowed into an unstable atmosphere, but once again, all of the activity came together well to the south of this location. This has been a common theme the past 2 years, with a stark inability for us to get any thunder up this way. Anyway, we did manage a very brief shower (about 30 seconds), not even enough to wet the ground. Skies cleared into the overnight hours as high pressure and drier air built into the region.
9/23/2010 7:00 AM 0.16 0.0 M 0.0 M A beautiful first day of fall on Wednesday, with high pressure in control providing plentiful blue skies and mainly light northwest winds. A smattering of lower clouds was noted early, but quickly disappeared into the afternoon. Clouds thickened into the night, with light to moderate rain overspreading the area just before observation time.
9/24/2010 7:00 AM 2.79 0.0 M 0.0 M Wow what a rain around these parts. A stalled warm front led to repeat rains through the early afternoon hours of Thursday, with some thunder even noted at times. Additional scattered showers developed through the afternoon, before the warm front lifted north of the area. Temperatures then soared through the middle 70s into the overnight hours, as very gusty southwest winds developed. Skies even cleared at times, leaving a brilliant full moon and temperatures around 75 degrees! A cold front approached just before observation time, but rain held off through 7 am.
9/25/2010 7:00 AM 0.13 0.0 M 0.0 M What started as a very warm day (temps in the low 70s) early Friday ended on a chilly note as strong cold advection kicked in through the afternoon, sending temperatures falling through the lower 50s, with gusty southwest winds. Periodic light rain showers were also noted into Friday afternoon, taking a break for a time into the evening. Thereafter, developing lake effect rain showers made a visit overnight, persisting up through observation time.
9/26/2010 7:00 AM 0.11 0.0 M 0.0 M A very chilly and rather gloomy day on Saturday, with numerous lake effect rain showers rolling through the area, and temperatures struggling into the middle and upper 40s. Drizzle returned for the early evening hours, along with a brief bout of some fog. Skies cleared rather quickly overnight as high pressure and drier air built into the region.
9/27/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A rather nice, albeit chilly day on Sunday with high pressure nosing into the area. In typical fashion, however, clouds proved pesky, with one axis of lower clouds sneaking through the area during the morning, giving way to developing stratocumulus into the afternoon. That said, some sunshine did make an appearance at times, though highs struggled to reach the mid 50s. Clear skies returned just after sunset, with overnight lows dipping into the lower 30s, with areas of frost again noted.
9/28/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A rather frosty start to the day, as the mercury dipped to 33 degrees here at the house. Variably cloudy conditions were then noted through the daylight hours as some cold air stratocu developed into the afternoon.
9/29/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A cloudy and very foggy start to the day on Tuesday quickly gave way to brilliant sunshine for the afternoon, with just a light northwest breeze and very low humidity. A perfect day to take some foliage pictures as the colors are leaves are quickly changing around here (I would estimate 50-75% color at this point - about 2 weeks ahead of schedule). Clouds thickened again overnight rather unexpectedly, leaving a low overcast by observation time.
9/30/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Pesky low clouds lingered through much of the day on Wednesday as warm advection cranked up aloft, finally giving way to increasing sunshine by 4 pm. Clouds thickened again overnight, with a few showers arriving in advance of an approaching cold front. The front brought just enough rain to wet the ground but not measure.
