Still raining this morning. Must have been good sleeping weather because I didn't get the gauge read 'til 8 am. Starting raining heavier once the gauge was empty. Between 7 am and 11:36 am we had 0.92" in the gauge. We rcvd another 1.04" between 11:36 and 5:40 pm. Between 5:40 pm and 8 am we rcvd another 2.06". This rain began early yesterday morning - reported on 7 October, which would add another 0.56" to the storm total, so far. Radar is still showing precip headed our way. As for flooding value, this is actually between minor and unusual. This is a lot of rain for 24 hours. There is a lot of ponding which is unusual. The creeks are up over the wet weather crossings, but the crossings are still passable, which is typical. Apologies to the NWS Don't Drown campaign but if we didn't go through water, we'd never get anywhere. Many culverts aren't sized properly or are clogged. |

We had 0.58" from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm. We were not at home, so I don't know what this rain was like. We had some fairly heavy rain between 1:30 and 5:30 pm which put about 2/3 to 3/4 of an inch in the gauge. It was getting dark so I didn't do more than glance at the gauge while I was checking for washout damage. After dark we had more rain, with a very intense storm from about 10:45 to a little after 11 pm. From my estimations we had an inch and a half after dark and probably most of that after 10:30 pm. We don't have flooding so much as run-off, being on the side of a hill. We had severe washouts from the rain after dark, the kind that we see only occasionally. |

It's cold, I'm a wimp, and I don't know how to measure the dusting of snow we have on the ground. It's mostly only on the leaves/grass. I suspect the snow on the bare ground got blown away. The amount of precip we have is rain and maybe some snow. Last night about 11:30 the wind picked up. This was about the time the misty liquid stuff stopped and the snow flurries began. So not sure how much snow was actually in the gauge. Didn't get a chance to check the gauge before dark. We did get some considerable ponding from the rain yesterday during the day. |

We had some kind of precip almost all day yesterday. Sometimes rain, sometimes fine snow, sometimes big Snoopy snow, sometimes mixed. On the snowboard we have a fluffy light half an inch. Bare ground is mostly clear while the grassy/leafy areas have snow - not quite enough to cover. |

Snow began falling about 6:30 am. At 7 am we had snow on the wood deck surfaces but not on the concrete walkways. Swept the wood decking at that time. By 7:15 we had snow on the wood decking and the concrete walkways. Measured the snow on the flat wooden snow board at 7 am. Wind picked up after that. Temps must have dropped recently because most of the ponded water from the day before wasn't frozen yet, altho the temperature was below 32. By 8:30 am today we had 15 degrees. Some time after 4 pm yesterday we had a trace, a brief sprinkling of rain. Very brief, and sparse. We had been hearing thunder but none in the several minutes before the sparse sprinkles. All of the gauge amount came after 2:30 am. Skies were clear at that time but there was some lightning off to the north. Skies were partly clear at observation time. Ground was wet but no obvious puddling or run-off. |

About 5:30 pm we had a terrific storm, lots of wind and sheets of rain. We had 0.82" in the gauge from this storm. Overnight sometime we had more rain, which is where the 0.10" came from. Also, about 9:30 am the sky got overcast and we heard thunder, but received no precipitation - not even a trace - from this cell. Although we have no wind damage at our place, I have heard numerous reports of downed trees and many branches littering the ground in the surrounding areas. We also had the electricity blink several times during the late afternoon storm. Did not see any hail. |

As far as I can tell, we didn't even have a trace tho the radar loop made it look as if we might have had a trace before observation time. We did have a few sparse drops between 7:30 am and 9 or 9:30 am (which will go on tomorrow's report). I mention it today because the gauge, sidewalk, dust on car windows, etc. showed no indication of even a trace before 7:30 am today. |

The bulk of this rain fell between 3 pm and 4 pm yesterday. Can't rule out a trace or a hundredth or so overnight but the bulk of this in the gauge came down yesterday afternoon. We had some winds but no wind damage other than the last branch on our heavily laden peach tree. Darn the luck. We might have had a few small pea size pellets of hail, from the sound, but I only observed one or two. Lots of run off, of course. Ground is not very wet this morning with almost no run-off still occurring. Vastly different story about 20 miles to our northwest in the Tuscumbia area where the grandson of a neighbor had all the windows in his house, and his vehicles' windshields all knocked out by hail. Needs a new roof, and many new ceilings in his house, too. |

This rain came from a storm that came through yesterday in a hurry, between 9 and 10 am. We did not have much wind and no hail that I observed. We had an initial heavy rain lasting perhaps 10 or 15 minutes, and then perhaps 30 minutes of a steady nice rain. The heavy clouds rolled in about 9 am with a few outlier drops. The heavy rain started about 10 or 15 minutes later. We had a sunny afternoon. |

We had at least 4 rounds of storms yesterday. After the first two went over we had 0.31" in the gauge. I have lost track of when those two were. We had another rain about 7 pm that seemed heavy but I did not get a chance to check the gauge. I did observe our wet weather creek running, which hasn't happened in rains this month that I can recall. And apparently another rain overnight, but I don't have any info on that at all. We still had some slight run-off at observation time, and obvious signs of run-off having occurred. |

We got our first rain - a brief shower - about 8:50 yesterday morning which left about 0.08" in the gauge. About 2 pm we got a much longer shower which left 0.43" in the gauge. The rest of the precipitation came after dark. At 11 pm it was raining lightly. Don't know when the rain started. We had thunder rumbling for much of the night. We had clear skies and sunshine at observation time. There were signs of run off but not much puddling. |
