55 degrees wit hte threat of rain at the time of reading. The rain held off last night for a delightful evening of trick-or-treating. There was a light sprinkle aroun 7pm. At 8pm it was 74 degrees! Wow! I looked out the window at 10:40 an noticed that it had been raining, but I'm not sure when it began. Sometime after 9pm. It rained most of the night. The ground is soppy with standing water in areas. Due to there only being a few cold mornings thus far, the plants have lasted longer than usual. The flower gardens are usually brown and dead by now. Instead they have changed color with the leaves on the trees. And I'm still picking tomatoes. |

Wow! The remnants of Ida have left lots of rain. The rain began to fall around 11am yesterday. By 3:30 pm, we had .65". By 6:30 pm we had .97" or rain. The rain was steady all day, but little to no wind. During the night the rain fell harder and the wind picked up. Between the hours of 6-7am today, we recieved .39" of rain. At the time of reading it was raining lightly, 54 degrees F, with steady winds around 15 mph gusting to the mid-twenties. The entrire yard is sopping wet with moving water into the lower areas. |

Wow! That was a lot of rain really fast! It was raining pretty hard, so I never went out to get an accurate measurement, but from the safety of my house I could see that by 10:00 am the guage was around .5" and it was done raining by 2pm. So much rain! There are paths in my yard formed by the rushing water. There is a drainage ditch that runs behind our house and ends two houses down. The water looks like a creek with the volume and speed at which it is moving toward the drain. I wish it were snow instead... |

Windy and threatening rain all day. But by 2:20 pm there was only .07" (from first thing in the morning - see yeaterday's report). Rain started around 6:30 pm. Still very windy and WARM. It got warmer as the day went on. 60 degrees by 1:30pm and 64 degrees (and steady) by 5:30 pm. At 10:20 pm we had .49" and it was raining lightly. The rain and wind picked up throughout the night, but I never heard lightening. It has stopped raining at least by 5:15 am. 1.49" overall. We really don't need this rain now. The ground is still soggy! Give me this rain during the summer months! I could hear the "peepers" (frogs) out this morning. Friday was a pretty nice day. Areas only a few miles to the North of us were reporting snow and making us jealous! I was akowen at 3:30am to the sound of sleet hiting the windows. Yuck. This continued through the observation time. At observation, it was 30 degrees. There was .04" of water in the rain guage. The reamining .5" that I measured had collected in the funnel of the guage as sleet. I allowed this to melt in order to measure it. There was about 1" of icey snow on the picnic table. |

Sleet continued to fall yesterday from the time of reading until at least 1pm. It was very light, however. A dusting of snow fell from 7:30 pm - about 8:15 pm. The temp started off at 30 degrees yesterday at 7:00 am and continued to drop throughout the morning and then held steady at 24 degrees until nightfall. This morning the temp was 16 degrees. The pond was frozen solid. You can walk on the snow/ice without breaking through the crusty top layer. The ppt collected was in the outer cylinder with no inner cylinder. I then allowed the sleet to melt and poured it into the inner cylinder to measure it. |

To our surprise when we walked out the door this morning we noticed that it has SNOWED last night! Just a dusting, but none the less, it was snow! It rained lightly on and off all day westerday with temps around 40 degrees. This morning at the time of reading it was 30 degrees and very windy and shaping up to be a sunny day. The rain gauge had .15" of water in it with iced snow in the funnel. The melted ice/snow in the funnel measured to be .02" The snow on the ground was not measurable it was so little. |

30 degrees at time of raining. It snowed aaaaallll day yesterday! And hardly any accumulated! The snow started around 9:30 am. It was very light. By 11:00 am the snow was "really" coming down, but it was little, hard balls that bounced off my car. Almost like hail. Shortly after the snow became wet. The snow did not turn into bigger, flufflier flakes until early afternoon. But still, no accumulation. By mid- afternoon the snow was back to smaller, wet flakes. At 6:00 pm it finally began to accumulate. Mind you, there was not a break in the snow fall all day. By 11:30 pm it was still snowing but it had let up a fair amount. I went out to make the base of a snow man for my kids. There was about 1.5" of snow on the ground (I did not measure it). It was super wet - the snowball wasn't big, but it was very heavy. The next time I looked out the window at 3:30 am it had stopped snowing. I should have measured the snow at that point, but I was preoccupied with heading out of town. I had someone else measure the gauge for me. She said she let all of the snow melt that had collected in/on the gauge and it added up to .41" of water. |

Lightning was first seen a about 6:20 pm. At 6:30 pm the sky just opened up and it dumped rain! By 6:45 it was "raining cats and dogs" according to my digital reader and had recorded .31" in the last 15 min. By 6:55 the rain had stopped and we had .35". |

We were in Indian Trail, NC when we heard the thunder at 4:30pm. The rain started a few minutes later. By 4:50, it was just a massive downpour. We started to drive South, toward home. By 5:05 pm, and in the Southern part of Indian Trail, the rain had let up. Further South and the roads were already drying. In Wesley Chapel, NC, we could see intense steam coming from the black top parking lots. It looked erie. A friend in Wesley Chapel (2.3 road miles from my house)said it downpoured, but for only about two minutes. Back home: not a drop! |

By 3pm there were sparse, large drops that rapidly became a massive downpour that lasted for about 10 minutes. It was very windy during this rain storm. You could see the dark sky and hear the thunder coming. At about 1:50 a few drops fell and then by 2:05 the skies opened up. Heavy rain and intense lightning - I turned off and unplugged my computer. at one point my digital guage said it was raining at a rate of over 7" per hour! By 2:30 pm the rain let up to a sprinkle and we had .61". At 2:45 we had .68" and the rain fall decreased. Constant thunder started again at 3:45 and lasted for about an hour. We recieved more rain later and at 5:30 pm I recorded .74" More rain fell throughout the night. |

Light, short rain fell around 5:25 pm and then again around 9:30 pm. We were out to the NW of us about 10 miles at 2:30 pm and could see the roads were drenched from a recent rain. |

Again: 80 degrees and 85% humidity at 8:00 am. Thunder started around 5pm and lasted off and on for several hours. First it was to the N of us, then to the S. We had a light sprinkle that lasted just a minute or so at around 6pm. |

Intense rain started suddenly at 6:20 pm following thunder. By 6:33 pm, it had already rained .3" at 6:44 it was at .4". At 7:18 it was at .8" At 8pm it had stopped raining at 1.03" and there was the most spectacular double rainbow I have ever seen. These measurments were taken from my digital gauge. The 1.14" total was taken from my CoCoRaSH gauge. I'm not sure if it rained again throughout the night or if the digital gauge is reading wrong. |

Some thunder and then rain at 3:20 pm. .03" was measured at 4:15pm. By 11:15pm it had rained quite a bit more. I checked it and it was about .4... I think. I can't remember exactly what it was! At the time of reading this morning it was cool (about 70 degrees), breezy and almost misty. |
