Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/1/2009 8:30 AM 0.06 M M M M Temp range 50/42. Overcast skies with some limited sun, blustery as the coldest air locks in. Overnight, overcast with occasional showers. At obs, overcast, wet streets and 44 deg.
10/2/2009 8:00 AM T M M M M Temp range 52/40. A continuous sheet of stubborn and dead Sc clouds remained in place all day and into the night. Just a trace of rainfall. Light W breezes, generally under 10 knots. Abnormally cool for this time of year. A warmup expected starting today, Friday and more so during upcoming weekend, following passage of warm front.
10/3/2009 8:00 AM 0.57 M M M M Thick overcast previous 24h, with rain commencing shortly after 11 am Friday and ending shortly before before 22:00 Friday night. Raw and chilly day as well, as temps barely rose above 50. Actual high of 56 occurred before arrival of rain Friday. Overnight, skies partially cleared with low temp of 44.
10/4/2009 8:00 AM T M M M M Temp range 69/40. Day was beautiful...plenty of sun, some fair wx cu clouds with a nice S breeze, 5-15knots. Thick moisture from previous night evaporated away by late morning Saturday 10/3. At Sunday morning obs, overcast has returned.
10/5/2009 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Temp range 62/46. Mostly cloudy...mid level deck in place. A few widely sct'd showers, but mainly dry period. A few sprinkles just prior to 0800 observation today. Winds on Sunday mainly from the W at 5-15knts. First whiff of smoke from woodburning stove upstream from obs site.
10/6/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp range 58/41. Strong W winds daytime hours on the 5th, 15-28 knots. Which tapered off after 16:00 on the 5th. Skies mainly cloudy as chilly airmass gets established.
10/7/2009 8:00 AM 0.38 M M M M Temp range 66/50. Previous 24 hours changeable, with the sun in and out on Tuesday, but a pleasant afternoon with light breezes. Overnight, rain showers arrived around 21:25 and continued on and off during the period. At obs time, cool and breezy, bright overcast, with a sprinkle.
10/8/2009 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Temp range 59/44. At obs time, 46 and sunny as we conclude the previous 24H period. Which was characterized by leftover sprinkles during the day, and grey Sc cloud deck. Big story was strong winds after the passage of a cold front in the early part of the period and the the associated cyclone passing by off the north shore of Lake Ontario. Strong W winds, 20knot with some gusts to 35knot. Lake Ontario had waves as high as 14 feet far from the shoreline. Wind gusts of 55knots at Dunkirk NY, sw of BUF. Power outages reported in pockets across region, namely near BUF. By last night, winds had started to subside. Skies started to clear around sundown, and overnight was mainly clear. Progression of wx systems are noted. Call it the week of "the invasion of the cold fronts," as one cold front after another crosses the eastern Great Lakes region.
10/9/2009 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Temp range 62/51. Early part of this 24h period characterized by bright blue skies. By late morning, high ci/cs clouds started to appear. Layer of clouds thickened during afternoon. Gentle SW breeze under 10knots noted. Overnight, overcast...drizzle arriving by shortly after dawn today. Obs temp 52.
10/10/2009 8:00 AM 0.42 M M M M Temp range 56/45. Low overcast with periods of rain and drizzle during Friday and into Friday night. Rain still heard tapping on the roof past midnight. By morning obs, precip had ended but clouds remain. A W wind was starting to kick up. Day ahead promises to be much better.
10/11/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp range 57/41. Finally, some sunshine and pleasant conds following the rainy Friday. Saturday was very nice, with sct sc clouds. Overnight, some increase in clouds with the approaching cool front. Temps bottomed at 41 at around 20:00, then rose to 47.5 by 03:00 today..then dropped back to to 41 for the low at dawn. Front came through dry, though rain gauge showed a trace...but likely dew formation as has been a problem in the past month on some clear or partially clear nights with little or no wind. Obs time temps in low 40s, and a deep blue sky with NW breeze. Indicative of an air mass change to even cooler wx for this Sunday.
10/12/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp range 51/30. First freeze of autumn. Previous day featured abundant sunshine, blue skies and a chilly wind. Overnight, strong radiational cooling as winds dropped off to near calm. Clouds rapidly increased before dawn, after min temps had been established.
10/13/2009 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Temp range 50/43. Dreary day all day into the night. Skirting northern side of rain shield much of the afternoon into the overnight. Sometimes that meant a few rain drops or drizzle. Gray skies, virtually no wind, and unusually chilly once again, like Sunday was.
10/14/2009 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Temp range 50/35. Morning side of day featured low clouds and showers. Improvement set during the afternoon after 14:00 with clouds parting partially for some sun. 10/15/2009 8:00 AM T M M M M Temp range 45/27. At obs time, 08:47, 34 and overcast. Previous day mainly grey with some sun poking through late in the day. A morning shower was observed after 09:00, but measured only to a trace. Surface winds out of the NE, less than 5 knots. Spared us any smoke from wood burning furnace nearby, as the wood pile preparation has started with some folks. Overnight low of 27 gave us a good frost and was a hard freeze, so growing season now over for sure. Beat out Sunday low of 30 by 3 degrees. Coolest 24H period here since station was commissioned.
10/16/2009 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Temp range 41/33. Overcast skies prevailed again. NE breezes, but very light. Precip was light, with some of this occurring mainly overnight, time unknown.

Central NY in SYR area, was totally different, with p/s conditions and temps in low 50s, after 15:00. At obs time here, mainly sunny, thick dew and sct'd frost, temp at 33.
10/19/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp range 47/27. Finally, a mainly sunny day. Some Sc evident mainly in the morning, but remainder of day CAVU. Light NNW wind, under 5 knots. Air very dry with DP's in mid-upper 20s. Overnight, clear with low temp occurring by 22:00, then holding near 29 the balance of night with passage of sfc ridge axis, and a gradual wind shift to SW. Pattern change underway, as normal October conditions return...after a week of November-like conditions. Moderate to heavy frost noted overnight and early today.
10/20/2009 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp range 56/38. Beautiful day with wall to wall sunshine. Winds out of the warm S to SW, 5-12 knots. Allowing for more leaf litter to reach station location. Patchy Ac and Sc observed. Overnight, skies clouded over rapidly. Min of 38 occurred by 21:15 held steady, then started rising by 22:45. By midnight, EDT, it had risen to 48.
