10/5/2009 7:00 AM 0.36 M M M M I was outside and felt splats at 1:50p and it began a light rain which fell for hours but while it was a steady light rain, it wasn't hitting the guage often, but the length of the rainfall did add up. I'm sure we received more than what was measurable but it has to fall into the guage to be counted.

10/10/2009 7:00 AM 0.50 M M M M Rather windy all day; NOAA issued tornado watch #764 at 12:23p; rained off and on most of the day. Then later a 'severe thunderstorm warning'was issued. Heard thunder then the satellite TV signal went out and it came and went for awhile. That storm wave at 4:25p brought a downpour of 0.36-in - short but heavy. All together I measured 1/2-in of rain for the reporting period.
10/11/2009 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M M M It was damp and chilly yesterday. This morning is cloudy and dreary so far. Winds are calm. The highest temp I noted yesterday was 58.1-F at 1:34p and the same at 2:26p and then it began to slowly drop to 53.8-F at 11:36p. It was 50.4-F at 6:50a this morning and currently is 54.0-F at 9:36a.

10/13/2009 7:00 AM 0.38 M M M M We had 0.36-in rain before 10:14a and an additional 0.02-in for the rest of the period for a total of 0.38 for the reporting period. The highest temp I noted was 66.1-F at 5:02p Monday night.
10/14/2009 7:00 AM 0.73 M M M M It began raining yesterday evening and has been raining somewhat since - It was raining when I went to measure the guage and is still raining though not as heavy as it has at times. The ground is puddled. Winds have been calm as far as I've noticed.

10/23/2009 7:15 AM 0.09 M M M M I was somewhat late checking the guage but it hadn't rained awhile before I checked so it's a good reading.
10/24/2009 7:00 AM 0.21 M M M M There was close thunder and then heavy rain at 8:03a yesterday morning and after it had stopped I measured 0.18-in precip. We had a light rain at 1:23p and the sun came out in strength around 3:10p. I measured another 0.03-in precip this morning for a total of 0.21-in precip for the reporting period. The temp was 63.4-F at 9:54p last night and 52.2-f at 7:02a this morning. However, the temp is dropping and is now 49.0-F at 9:17a. Yesterday was very windy and today is a light breeze to calm.
10/25/2009 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M We had 0.03-in precip around 10a Saturday and it rained again about 1p. It was very windy most of the day and drizzlie at times. I measured another 0.02-in this morning for a total of 0.05-in precip for the reporting period.

11/27/2009 7:00 AM T M M M M We went out to feed the farm animals and noticed white stuff flitting here and there. It took awhile to realize we were seeing very small snowflakes mixed in with a misty rain and some tiny ice balls. The flakes melted as they touched something and the little ice balls lasted long enough to pick them up and have a closer look. There was no accumulation - nothing you would even have noticed if not outside when it was occuring. There was no precip in the guage to measure either. No evidence on the ground or anything. Wow .... we could say we had a bit of a "white" Thanksgiving.

12/1/2009 7:00 AM 0.13 M M M M This was measured after 1:21p Monday when it had not rained for awhile. The day was dreary until rather late in the afternoon when the sun decided to visit a spell before setting.
12/2/2009 7:00 AM 0.75 M M M M Yes, 0.75 on the mark. Let out a cat at 1:30a and it was raining. It was raining when I let out another cat at 4:20a and was very light when I went to check the guage and then began to rain again and was still raining at 7:30a so some to report tomorrow. It was breezy and felt colder than the thermometer said the temp was though it had warmed some by late afternoon - and it was still breezy.
12/3/2009 7:00 AM 0.22 M M M M There was 0.05-in precip recorded after 2:25p and another 0.17 this morning
12/4/2009 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M It was 31.9-F at 6:27a and it didn't feel all that cold then but later it felt colder even as the temp warmed up. I noted a 'high' here of 38.7-F at 3:06p.
12/5/2009 6:51 AM 0.13 2.0 0.13 2.0 0.13 No snow by 11:48p last night, but it had been snowing when I let out a cat at 3:30a, and had snowed enough to cover the ground and such when I let a cat out at 4:20a. I measured a depth of 2-in of snow with a water content of 0.13-in. The high noted here yesterday was 38.7-F at 3:06p and it was 32.9-F at 11:48p last night. The morning low was 28.8-F at 6:51a. I measured again this morning and there was another 0.44-in for a total of 0.83 for the reporting period. Weather animations showed green, yellow and red covering this area but I don't think that here received as much as the 'colors' indicated was possibly falling.
12/10/2009 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Windy, blustery, cold; winds so strong I could hardly open the front door and had to lock the side porch screen door to keep it from banging; the garage door was banging back and forth in the track - but it held. The wind turbines 'flew' around so fast they must have been humming but we made it with little damage, mostly tree parts broken off and smaller trees blown over. The weather animation showed snow cover but nothing fell here.

12/19/2009 7:00 AM 0.56 T 0.08 T 0.08 A rain/snow mix began to fall about 11:46a: we had rain/snow, snow, snow/rain. A large, wet snow began to fall about 12:01p. We had ice form for awhile as the rain fell but it warmed up enough that melted. I measured 0.48-in precip by 2:45p. About 10p it began to snow again and when I looked out this morning there was a patchy snow cover as it had melted in many areas. I melted what was in the outer tube for another 0.08-in. As the previous measurement was liquid I did not include it in the snow totals. The first 'snow' was mainly a 'trace' anyway as it mostly melted when it fell.
12/20/2009 7:18 AM 0.11 2.0 0.11 2.0 0.11 We received basicaly 2-in snow [most places, some more, some less]and I melted what was in the large outer tube to get the 'melt' noted above. I was a bit late going out due to the amount of snow on the porch and steps and the 30.2-F temp factor.

The ground is saturated and the garden area is puddled. If we had a hard freeze we could go ice-skimming in the yard. I noted a 'high' yesterday of 56.2-F at 2:49p and it was still 49.0-F at 10:11p. 12/31/2009 7:09 AM 0.08 M M M M It began to rain about 8:03a yesterday and we had a rain shower of some degree most all day. It was raining when I looked out at 10:30 p [didn't note temp then, but it had been 37.6-F at 9:37p and still at 12:02a this morning, so it was not in the freezing range] and there was ice foremed on the dog pen tarp and some on the rubber mats on the walkway. When I looked out this morning, there was no ice and the temp was 41.0-F at 7:27a - so it warmed up overnight. It wasn't raining before I went out to check the guage but it was starting to as I went out so everything is wet and if the temp drops enough it will be ice on the roadways. We had rather blustery weather yesterday and we likely had more rain than what was in the guage. The garden area hadn't dried out from the previous precip. and now is a "pond" again. Not a good start for trying to plow this coming spring.
1/1/2010 7:00 AM 0.08 M M M M We received 0.03-in precip by 11:07a yesterday and when I read the guage this morning there was another 0.05-in frozen precip in it I had to melt to measure. I noted a 'high' here yesterday of 45.2-F at 2:01p and also at 2:32p before it began to slowly drop. It was 38.5-F at 10:56p last night and 29.5-F at 6:49a this morning. Current temp is 26.5-F at 11:06a. The sun keeps trying to shine forth.
1/2/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 0.8 M 0.8 0.02 The ground was white with snow when I let a cat out about 4:47a; temp was 15.1-F at 6:57a. There was 3/4-in fluffy 'dry' snow but there was little moisture in what was in the guage. NOTE: total snow was 3/4-in but the program wouldn't accept .75 or 3/4
1/3/2010 7:00 AM T 0.1 T T T We had a very light snow fall but none landed in the guage to be measured. It was breezy and snow was blown about such that at times it was difficult to determine if it was snowing or blowing. In 'protected' areas the new snow was about 1/16-in. We still had quite a it of old snow left but it had been blown around such there was bare spots and tiny drifts but the steps were slippery and I didn't go down to measure early. The temp was 10.3-F at 7:00a this morning and I noted a 'high' yesterday of 21.8-F at 2:20p yesterday. We still have snow in spots but I haven't been able to measure it - - so I put 'T' since something is there but I cannot be more accurate.
1/4/2010 7:00 AM 0.01 0.3 0.01 0.3 0.01 Woke up to a light snow falling, we had 1/4-in new snow. Most of the other was melted [Trace]. There was a fair amount of snow in the guage so I was excited about measuring it - but it was very dry snow as there was only 0.01-in moisture and I had to near 'wring' the tube to get that. The temp was 14.9-F at 10:48p last night and 13.7-F when I checked at 7:33a. I noted a high yesterday of 22.0-F at 4:09p. We had light snow for most of the morning and at times I had to look close to tell if it was snowing or blowing due to the wind. I became a "weather casualty" this afternoon when I went to get the mail and noticed a fountain of water gushing up out of the water meter box. Would anyone be surprised if I said the crack was found to be on my side of the meter and it had already gushed 9,000 gallons by the time the water company got it turned off and I'm number three on the repair list for tomorrow. I went and dug the dirt from around the box as best I could while it was diggable and it was getting hard as I was digging. By tomorrow the plumber would need to torch the dirt to thaw it enough to dig up the box to get to the break - which naturally is inside the cover box. I was bundled good but it was still so cold I have a pounding headache from breathing it.
1/5/2010 7:00 AM 0.01 0.3 0.01 0.3 0.01 We had 1/4-in new snow; and the rest is a trace. I got the busted water pipe repaired and have running water again. Oh what a relief! such a simple thing but it sure makes life a lot easier than without such. The temp was 17.3-F at 10:19p last night and 12.1-F at 6:57a this morning. I noted a 'high' yesterday of 24.3-F at 2:57p. Trying to dig out the wet soil before it froze so the plumber had access to the pipe I think I 'froze' my brain breathing in all that cold air. I was bundled but forgot about my nose and my glasses frosted in the cold even so and it was hard to work and harder to see what I was trying to accomplish.

1/8/2010 7:15 AM 0.12 1.3 0.12 1.3 0.12 We had 1/2-in snow yesterday from flurries that began about noon and was covering the ground like powdered sugar dusted on a cake by 1:15p, with an additional 1-1/4-in snow this morning for a total of 1-3/4-in snow for the reporting period. We've had some really gusty winds blowing the snow all around and one such blew the powdery snow off the roof such that it was like being in a blizzard for a short while. We had several really heavy snows, one of which I noted the time for - 2:28p. I noted a 'high' of 31.3-F at 4:25p yesterday and it was 11.2-F at 7:15a this morning.
1/9/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 1.0 0.02 2.0 0.03 We had light snow fall most all day [flurries?]. My puppy enjoyed it, the cats and I stayed inside. I noted a 'high' yesterday of 19.3-F at 3:17p; the temp was 12.2-F at 8:54p and this morning it was 13.7-F at 6:56a. The snow accumulation I could get to was now 2-in with approx. 1-in new snow and only 0.02-in liquid in cylinder when melted.
1/10/2010 7:16 AM T 0.3 T 2.0 0.02 There was a light snow falling when I looked out this morning. I measured 1/4-in new snow and the accumulation was 'still' 2-in. It was fluffy and dry snow and blows around very easily. We did receive some big, fat flakes around 9:46am yesterday but it didn't last long and went back to the small, fluffy ones. I noted a 'high' of 23.6-F at 1:57P yesterday. The temp was 19.3-F at 9:43p last night and 16.2-F this morning.
1/11/2010 7:00 AM T T T 1.3 0.02 We had a light snow fall during the morning yesterday and then it stopped. There's snow with an ice crust on it and snow on top of that. Very unstable footing. I noted a 'high' of 23.9-F at 3:20p. It was 13.9-F at 10:13p last night and 17.5-F at 8:02a this morning. It was a bit breezy yesterday and still somewhat today.
1/12/2010 7:10 AM 0.01 0.1 0.01 0.8 0.11 We had 1/8-in new snow and the old accumulation has melted into snow-ice and is very slippery to walk on, on porch and steps and crunch-crunch to walk to the mailbox. I near slipped even on the accumulation on the gravel drive. I still have decent ground coverage to the tune of 1-1/4-in to 1-1/2-in depth in many areas and bare spots to powdered coverage spots in other places. I halved 1-1/2-in and reported 3/4-in total snow. The melted core value was from a 1-1/4-in core sample. I noted a 'high' of 32.4-F at 8:40p yesterday. The temp was 31.3-F at 10:31p last night and 24.7-F at 7:10a this morning. It has been very breezy with an occassional strong gust. It snowed some late last night and it sounded like it was raining and like ice tinkling on the roof. It was windy but I checked a bit later and it was still breezy but the sound had stopped.

The temp was 44.8-F at 11:38p last night with rain; and 46.8-F at 7:13a this morning with rain. I have two computers in the shop for a reload after a virus attack and this third one is being attacked. I have virus protection but it isn't doing a good job [AVG nor AVI] and if this computer goes down won't be able to update for awhile. No problems until I went DSL. WIth all this moisture so far, it may cause problems come spring and turning the ground. Last year it was very late before the soil was dry enough to try and even then the 4-wheel drive tractor got bogged down and almost had to be towed out. It wasn't a nice smooth planting area due to the clods of dirt from such wet soil.

1/26/2010 7:00 AM 0.06 0.1 0.06 0.1 0.06 This is going to be a somewhat werid report in that we had wind, snow, sleet, rain/sleet and such most all day. We had some accumulation but it would melt and then start all over again. At one point we had blizzard-like conditions with the snow blowing horizintally and covering most everything for at least 1/16-in to 1/8-in with small pocket accumulations against obstacles of 1-3-inches of sticky snow. The wind was so strong it would then blow away any ground or porch accumulations or what was there would melt quickly. So while we had quite a bit of mixture yesterday there wasn't much depth to measure but there was a bit in the guage to melt and measure. I noted a 'high' of 38.9-F at 11:37a yesterday. It was 32.6-F at 10:46p last night and 29.9-F at 7:59 a this morning. It is still quite breezy with strong gusts today.

1/30/2010 7:40 AM 1.28 5.5 1.28 5.5 1.28 I had 3/4-in snow by 3:08p yesterday. This report will be an approximation as I have snow from 3-in to 8-in deep plus higher drifts. I have a core sample as I can't get to the guage due to ice crust on snow is very unstable; ice is 1/4-in to 3/8-in thick on top of snow and breaks through when walked on. We had winds overnight and instead of the accumulation on the railing being 'square' with a slight rounded top; it is 'pyramidal' from winds blowing away the snow around the edges but not under the ice cap. We had sleet/snow/sleet/snow most of yesterday with a heavy fall of big, wet flakes at 7:56p last night. No snow was falling at 4:24a nor when I went out and checked the snow depth and what had fallen overnight by then had collapsed in depth. Given the freezing temps [24.1-F at 7:54a], it likely condensed due to the ice coating. Ice coating on tree branches is the same as on the snow.
1/31/2010 7:00 AM 0.34 0.0 0.00 6.0 M We had sleet at 10:48a; snow at 12:01p; more sleet at 2:22p, and thereafter when I looked out it was either sleet or calm. There was accumulations of 3-1/2-in to 8-in deep with a crust of ice .
2/1/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 5.0 1.05 Old snow depth now measures 3-1/2-in to 6-in deep. There is a crust of ice on top that is 1/2-in and 1-in thick to over 4-in thick in some areas. I know, I was out there shoveling it and there was several layers of ice and snow stacked on each other. I guess some melt occurred and refroze given the low temps we've had.
2/2/2010 7:00 AM 0.10 T T 5.0 0.94 We had light snow and sleet fall overnight and early this morning but it was melting so accumulation of new snow will be trace. The snowpack is also melting but is still basically 4-6-in deep and 'grass' is starting to peek up through the snow cover.

There is still snow on the ground, under bushes, on roofs and in the woods even with the rain and temps above freezing [38.9-F at 10:01p and 40.1-F at 8:09a]. Yes, we still have a fair amount of snow around but I was not able to get out to take a core sample due to the rain and slippery steps. The ground is saturated and walking is hazardous due to the clayish soil and the slope of the land. P.S. I don't see a crack in the guage that would have let water leak out so it appears little hit the guage. P.P.S. The guage does not have a crack but it does have a leak in the bottom where the round insert is.
2/6/2010 7:00 AM 0.18 0.3 0.06 3.5 0.06 We received 1/4-in of snow, sleet mix and snow was plastered on the outside of the big guage. The winds are blowing the precip every which way and little is landing in the guage. The temp was 43.7-F at 10:26p and 34.6-F at 7:04a. I noted a 'high' yesterday of 45.4-F at 3:56p Friday.
2/7/2010 7:00 AM 0.07 0.5 0.07 M M We had 1/2-in of snow/sleet mix fall and it was a frozen mess this morning. My big guage has a drip leak in the bottom and so I had to turn it over and let it defrost into another container and then measure it. I have to see about the best way to patch the leak on the outside so it is ready for warmer weather and the patching does not affect the collection amount. It was 28.6-F at 9:02p last night and 29.0-F at 7:37a this morning. I noted a 'high' of 35.3-F at 10:40a yesterday and the temp slowly dropped after that. We still have snow left from the previous storm. Just can't get to it due to the condition of the soil and the slope of the land.
2/8/2010 7:00 AM 0.03 0.3 0.03 0.4 0.07 I found a cup with a 4-inch diameter opening and stuck it inside the big cylinder to catch precip in until I can get the tube replaced or repaired. Perhaps the readings will be more correct now. Much of what fell here was tiny ice balls [sleet] and some snow. It was quite misty out at times and it was almost like an apparition was moving about as it would be clear looking one way and hazy looking another way and it moved about. I have not seen such before. I have seen fog 'roll' in but not move about like this did. There is still snow from the last storm in the woods and a few 'protected' areas but the ground is soggy and difficult to walk on so I wasn't about to go into the woods and measure what is still there. Just have to make do with what I can reach and there is going to be a lot more melt to fill any underground reservoirs and ponds.
2/9/2010 7:00 AM 0.77 M M M M At about 8p I saw big, fat, wet snowflakes falling - we had 1/2-in snow on the ground when it stopped about 9p - 40.1-F at the time. Then later when I looked out I noticed 'holes' in the snow and went out and heard it raining. The rain melted the snow in spots but some of the fresh snowfall was still on the ground when I got up. It is very windy with some strong gusts. Didn't think to take a snow sample of the wet snow before it began to rain as I didn't expect it to rain given the amount of snow falling. Later with rain on top of what snow was out there likely would have skewed the sampling. Any snow moisture in the guage was melted by the rain - so I'm just reporting precip.
2/10/2010 7:00 AM 0.75 1.8 0.04 1.8 0.04 Tuesday, it was windy and a misty type of precip was falling. At times it looked like there was some sleet in it. I checked the guage at 1:14p and it contained 0.71-in precip. [42.1-F]. Then, at 1:19p I noticed a light snow falling; then I noted sleet about 6:51p [32.9-f]. There was only a light cover of snow when I checked at 9:42p [24.1-F]. It was 23.6-F at 6:33a and there was 1-3/4-inch snow with a content of 0.04. It is still snowing.
2/11/2010 7:00 AM 0.14 4.0 0.14 M M It is very windy and snowy - it's no blizzard as the snow isn't falling heavy enough but the wind is blowing the snow sideways, and it is blowing it under the covered porch to the front door and I can hardly push the door open against the wind. 1-3/4-in snow held 0.04-in moisture; there was 2-1/2 inches of snow by 8:34a; 4-in by 10:13a. The SWE was 0.14 for the 4-in core. I noted a high of 30.4-F at 4:15p and it was down to 28.3-F at 8:53p. I didn't take any other measurements before going to bed. The temp was 23.6-F at 6:33a.
2/12/2010 7:00 AM 0.03 0.4 0.03 3.0 0.14 I can't believe how much snow is still around. The snow pack ranges from bare spots in open spaces to 2-1/4-in to 4-1/4-in in more shaded or 'protected' spaces and is still soft and fluffy with no crust on it. I was surprised by the amount of moisture in the core sample which was from a spot 4-1/4-in high. The guage held what looked to be quite an amount [there was new snow from 1/4-in to 1/2-in depths due to windy conditions] but when it had melted there was only 0.03-in precip. I measured several spots in the snow pack and noted the average below.
2/13/2010 7:00 AM T T T T M It was lightly snowing when I let a cat out at 6:39a; it was a small flake/fat flake mixture and was 'lightly' covering by 6:49a thus the "Trace". Very little settled in the 'guage'. Old snow ground cover is very patchy. The temp was 29.2-F at 10:18p last night and 27.0-F at 6:49a this morning.
2/14/2010 7:00 AM T T T T T It was lightly snowing at 12:18p yesterday. Temp was 31.7-F at 9:54p and also 11:37p and 30.4-F at 7:27a. I was up and going at 6:57a but didn't note the temp.
2/15/2010 7:05 AM 0.19 2.0 0.13 2.0 0.13 Let a cat out at 6:57a and it didn't feel very cold out [30.4-F when I checked at 7:27a]. There was light sleet and snow falling here at the house about 11a and on the way to and in Jamestown and coming back home. A mix of light rain/snow fell off and on awhile and then stopped. More sleet at 3:55p [40.1-F at 4p]. After dark there was a haze out and couldn't tell if it was fog or a misty rain, though the pets coming in were damp. Let a cat out about 4:34a and snow was falling and the ground and objects outside were completely covered. Checked this morning and there was 2-in of snow fall and it was still falling. Can't explain the difference in the water content from what was in the "guage" versus what was in the 'core' I took. The snow was fluffy but it had a 'crunch' to it when walked on or opening the porch gate and the 'foot' support scraped across it.
2/16/2010 7:15 AM 0.04 2.0 0.04 3.3 0.22 We had light flurries and then at 9:35a Mon we had a snow shower with gusty winds blowing it every which way [29.9-F]. The sun keeps peeking out and there's some melt as drips fall and icicles form. Snow pack is 1-1/2 to 2-in at 12:20p and there's now icy areas and items frozen in place. 2:47p - 30.1-F and still snowing lightly but it isn't staying in one place to measure. Snow pack is again 1-1/2 to 2-in thick over an ice base [4:30p - 30.2-F] and it is still snowing and blowing and feels very cold out. I scraped the snow off the porch and walkway and there's ice under the snow from melt earlier. Roofs have clear streaks on them due to winds blowing snow off. Before dark: snow has covered where I'd cleared. 9p -still lightly snowing [24.7-F at 9:40p]. Temp was 27.0-F at 7:34a Mon and 25.0-F at 11:15p Mon night. It was 26.3-F at 7:24a this morning and light snow is still falling and being blown around but it isn't as gusty as yesterday - so far.
2/17/2010 7:05 AM 0.02 0.4 0.02 3.3 0.25 We had some light snow during the night. I measured 3/8-in inside the 'guage'. The snow pack was 3-in, 3-1/4-in, and 3-1/2-in deep. I took a core sample from the 3-1/4-in deep area. The steps, sidewalks and other places are icy from some melt yesterday and then the freezing and I am not able to get out into the yard to measure the drifts. On the east side yard where little sun hits and the house stops the wind, I noticed my dog plowing through the snow there and it was up to her belly, so I measured her legs when she came back and the snow there is at least 6-in deep. It would be nice if I could get to that area and take a core sample, but the ground really slopes there and I will pass. The sun peeked out at 11:29a and again at 1:35p Tuesday and it caused some melting and some really nice icicles. I measured the snow depth at 4-p and it was 3-in with some ice in it from the melt and then freeze. I believe we had at least 4-in snow from this system and likely 6-in or more given the depth on the east side of the house. The core sample is becoming more 'wet' over time relative to the depth which is, basically, about the same.

2/19/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.0 0.21 Suns bright this morning. Woke up to a covering of frost outside and the porches and steps are slippery. Averaged the depth of snow left on the ground in the areas I can access to measure [1-1/2 to 2-3/4 inch]. The snow is very 'wet' and is melting quickly in this sunshine. The ground is still covered fairly well with snow in the woods behind my property as it doesn't seem to receive much of the sun.
2/20/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 T T Yesterday [Fri] was a beautiful day - was nice to have sun and warmth and the snowpack was melting quite rapidly. Starting to be interested in looking through seed catalogs and planning the garden.
2/21/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 T T There is little "snow" left on the ground and when I checked it, turns out the 'snow' melted enough it is really ice now and it is hard but it looks like it is snow. It's a really beautiful day and I even opened up the house to let some 'fresh' air in. Temp was 41.6-F at 10:24p last night and 35.8-F at 6:43a this morning. I'm 'chomping at the bit' to get going in the yard but the ground is still very soggy and the wet is cold. Oh well, I can look through seed catalogs and 'dream' about a garden. The animals really appreciate this nice warm weather and they are outside soaking up 'rays'. Hyacinths, daffodils and other bulb plants are popping up; the plum and apples have buds on the ends of the branches and the birds are into other things. In the cold weather they were eating like 'pigs'. I've even chased honeybees out of the house. Spring surely can't be too far away.
2/22/2010 7:00 AM 0.48 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 It was beginning to rain big drops at 10:35p last night, got everything, including the cats wet, and then settled to a misty drizzle. It smells like a nice earthy summer rain outside. I also had a 4-in diameter can set outside in a different place as I am trying to see if I can find a better location than my original setup and it only captured 0.22-in - so location is very important. It's also an intreresting experiment in that it shows the ground doesn't get wet the same all over [unless it rains long and hard enough to pool]. The temp was 51.8-F at 11:15p last night and 47.5-F at 6:39a this morning.
2/23/2010 7:03 AM 0.04 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 It's rather foggy looking out and 36.9-F. I checked the 4-in can and it had 0.03-in precip in it so the rain must have fallen fairly straight down. I'm noticing that any wind plays a big part in what amount falls where. This experiment is akin to measuring snow drifts and averaging the depth. For now I am not averaging the rainfall - just being curious but thought it might be useful info to someone. The fog has increased so it is difficult to impossible to see houses down the road. I would not have seen a vehicle come off a road except it had headlights on. The LP truck came to fill my tank and he said it was as foggy on US 127, which is near 5 miles from where I am so the fog is quite widespread. It is also a "rolling" kind of fog as it lightens somewhat and then is denser, lightens somewhat and then is denser. At 10:51a it is still quite dense out and I'm very happy I don't have to go out in it. Temp was 44.5-F at 10:42p last night. Current temp is 35.3-F at 10:52a. The fog now has some drizzle in it and it is cold. I haven't noticed any snow or sleet as yet but it's surely cold enough at ground level.

2/25/2010 7:01 AM 0.04 1.0 0.04 1.0 0.04 The temp was 27.7-F at 7:01a and I measured 1-in of new snow. The sun began to peek out at 9:29a [29.2-F] and the temp began to warm up and the accumulation began to melt. FYI: I measured snowfall of 1-1/2-in about 11a before the melting began - but didn't take a core sample of the higher amnount as I had no idea it would be melting so quickly. The snow was a soft, powder and blows easily. Current temp is now 33.3-F and most of the snow has melted.
2/26/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 0.5 0.02 T T I had 1/2-in more snow to go with the 1-inch I received yesterday. I'd measured with the ruler but didn't take a core sample as I did not expect the snow fall to melt as quickly as it did when the snow fall slowed to an occassional flurry. So I'm reporting 'total' as 'trace'. The temp was 29.7-F at 10:45p Thursday night and 28.6-F at 7:17a Friday morning. I noted a 'high' of 35.7-F at 3:59p.

2/28/2010 7:00 AM T M M M M Good thing there wasn't much to measure as I went out to put up a birdfeeder and such and one step off the porch slipped and fell onto the concrete. To get to the guage I have to go down 14 steps and here I couldn't get off the porch. The precip was sleet over a thin layer of 'black' ice. The temp was 36.0-F at 10:09p last night and 33.1-F at 6:57a this morning. It was rather breezy yesterday and last night but it mostly still and dreary looking out. I'm OK but I have a few 'dings' to recoup from.

3/2/2010 7:00 AM T T T T T It wasn't snowing when I let a cat out about 4:30-ish this morning but it was lightly snowing at 6:26a [temp 35.6-F]. I first thought it might be sleet but when I touched it, it was tiny snow flakes not ice balls. At 6:58a big, fat, wet flakes began to fall so something for tomorrow's report. Sorry the other agency only wants a weekly SWE as this snow melted really fast once it slowed down and if I wasn't home to do a measurement and water equivalent - no one would have any idea of what fell today and how it could impact the environment. Myself, I will report as it happens and they can use it or ignore it.
3/3/2010 7:00 AM 0.12 1.8 0.12 1.8 0.12 The temp was 35.6-F at 6:26a and 36.5-F at 8:34a Tuesday when it was snowing out. There was 1-1/2-in snow on the ground by 9:45a, and 1-3/4-in snow on the ground by 10:50a Tue. with an SWE of 0.09 from a core sample. At 1:38p Tue. the snow was melting and it was getting to be a bit slushy. Later there was more flurries but not like before. When I got up this morning it lookede as if it had snowed mre during the night and when I took a measurement this morning there was still only 1-3/4-in snow but the SWE was now 0.12 in the core sample and guage capture.
3/4/2010 7:00 AM 0.04 0.1 0.04 0.1 0.04 Light sleet was falling yesterday at 7:52a; light snow was falling at 6:47p and was 34.7-F at 7:33p with snow on the ground. I measured 1/8-in new snow this morning. The other had mostly melted away with little traces here and there.

The temp began to fall last night and then it warmed up [54.5-F @ 7:34p; 52.2-F @ 9:48p. 53.6-F @ 10:22p and 54.7-F @ 11:20p]. Today is gloomy and looks like rain.
3/11/2010 7:00 AM T M M M M Some things looked wet and other places looked damp like maybe a heavy fog or dew but when I looked at the tarp over the doghouse it was full of droplets and too wet not to be from a light rain, but no precip was in the guage - so reporting a Trace.
3/12/2010 7:00 AM 0.15 M M M M A fairly heavy rain begin to fall at 9:12p [53.6-F] but it was of a short duration. It was a very gloomy day. There was no more precip as of 10:41p.

3/27/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Heavy frost covering ground, dog house, bird feeders. etc., and porch is slippery - Brrrrrr! Yesterday started out in the mid-40's and then dropped into the mid-30's here [some I talked with said it was below freezing at their place] and dense fog rose and made sighting difficult for an hour or so and then began to clear though it was still hazy for awhile. Not a nice day to have a flat on the road and trying to get someone to come out and get you back on the road. God did provide and help arrived and changed the flat and put air in the spare and I was able to make it to a tire shop - $130 plus for a new tire. And the flat was a fairly new tire. At least it wasn't raining or snowing.

4/17/2010 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Finally!!!!! I let out the cats at 5:20a and it wasn't raining. When I looked out at 6:55a it was wet. It isn't much given how long it's been dry but every bit helps. Maybe I can hoe a few more rows in the garden tomorrow. Temp was 57.1-F at 6:55a and dropped a bit but is back to 57.2 at 9:02a. The sun is peeking out so it should warm up some. Yesterday was so warm I had windows open and fans blowing - today the windows are shut, the fans are off and I have a blanket wrapped around me to take the chill off. It's a bit breezy lately, like a good stiff breeze at the beach and yesterday there were times when it whoooooed through the tree tops and 'sang' around the house. I walked through my 'woods' yesterday and noticed a lot more tree parts are down so I have lots of clearing work ahead of me. Also I noticed a lot of small trees are dead and bigger ones look 'ill' and some have dead tops. The wet fall and spring didn't mitigate the damage from the dryer times.
4/18/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The ground dried quickly after the light rain early Saturday morning and I watered the garden that night and by 1p today [and it's cooler today] it was dry again and didn't look as if it had been watered at all. Ticks and mosquitoes are out in force.

4/22/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The little rain we had Tuesday is gone and the top soil is dry. I tried to put in some tomato braces and the ground is too hard to push the pole in. I tried using a 'long' screwdriver to dig in and wobbled it around but the pole still wouldn't go in far enough to stand up. There is moisture in the deeper soil but it isn't more than damp. That soil level is also hard to dig in. Hopefully we will have some nice precip out of the storm system coming in.
4/23/2010 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M We had some big splats around 10:14p last night and some light rains overnight. Right now it is sunny, a bit cool but warming up. Hope that big storm front that is coming this way loses its punch. We could use a nice soft rain but not the winds, hail and tornadoes.

4/25/2010 7:00 AM 0.88 M M M M The worst of the storm system split and went north to Paducah and east to Knoxville. We had tornado watch #96 and 98. We had lots of strong winds and gusts such that I had a problem opening the front door [faces NW] and the winds would 'whoooooooooo' around the house and the vinyl siding on the front porch sometimes 'rattled'. It was a rather unsettling day but we are OK.
4/26/2010 7:03 AM 0.10 M M M M It was a drizzlie, blustery, dreary day but thankfully nothing major. At 8:50p last night we had a hard rain and strong winds but it didn't last long.
4/27/2010 7:00 AM 0.28 M M M M Another dreary, drizzlie, damp and blustery day. The highest I noted yesterday was 55.3-F at 7:32a and it was downhill from there.
4/28/2010 7:07 AM 0.08 M M M M What a dreary, miserable several days we've had but the sun is out, though it is still chilly. There was a possibility of frost so I covered the gardenia and such. It was starting to become rather foggy when I let out cats at 5:54a and was quite foggy when I went out at 7:07a to check the guage. All is clear now and I hope it dries enough to do some yard work. I have to cut the grass so I can put out the weed-n-feed so the grass grows and I'll have more to cut again. The highest temp I noted yesterday was 54.2-F at 4:29p. Even so it felt very chilly when the breeze blew.

5/2/2010 7:00 AM 2.10 M M M M I recorded 0.67-in precip by 12:15p Saturday. Then this morning I noted an additional 1.43-in precip for a total of 2.10-in for the reporting period. We have had some rather gusty winds at times and an occassional heavy downpour. The cats got me up before 5:34a which is when I first noted the time and temp [67.0-F]. At 6:42a this morning an extremely strong, howling gust of wind went through. I've noticed an odd phenomenon - I have the back door [SSW side of house blocked open for the cats to come and go and it opens into the laundry room which has a door to the kitchen which is also propped open for the cats and the wind pushes and pulls the two doors back and forth like it is breathing. It's actually jammed the one door onto the piece of wood block used to hold it open and pushed the prop away from the other door and slammed it shut. The atomic clock says the temp is 67.9-F but the glass holding refrig-temp tea is sweating big time. This morning [at 1:30ish AM and at 5:34AM - times I let cats out/in] the storm door was fogged up as was some of the house double-pane windows. It is rather dreary, breezy and damp out and the sky had a rather odd color this morning. We have been under several tornado watches - #122, 124, 128 and now #131. At 9:33a Sat it became very dark with thunders; lost TV signal at 9:34a.; at 9:37a it began to sprinkle. Various intensities over the day with periods of light to no rain. Lost TV again at 5:48p due to really heavy rain. It's really windy to very gusty out. 7:44a - the sun is peeking out here and there.
5/3/2010 7:00 AM 1.56 M M M M There was a VERY strong wind gust at 6:42am yesterday and the winds would push the side door open and then pulled it shut as if it was breathing in/out. At 8:02a we had a roaring wind go through; at 2:44p a heavy downpour; 5:31p strong wind and heavy rain; 10:30p thunders - 11:06p heavy downpour, thunder and lightning, some quite close. Would lose the TV signal during the heavy rains. The rain total for Friday and Sat came to 3.66-in.

5/11/2010 7:00 AM 0.06 M M M M I didn't really note the time but it began to sprinkle before noon yesterday and was raining about 2p and was very breezy. It was very windy with strong gusts when I checked the temp at 6:24a [56.7-F] and even more gusty when I checked the rain guage. The trees whip back and forth, and then a strong gust blows the trees in one direction for awhile and then it's back to whipping back and forth. The cats are quite upset by the winds and noises it makes, the dog ignores it all. At 10a the temp is up to 63.9-F.

5/15/2010 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M That was measured yesterday at 4:21p. Nothing to measure since. I checked the guage this morning and there wasn't anything in it but a cat had come in dampened as if being in a sprinkle and there were spots where it looked as if it had been rained on, while next to dry spots - SO, it must have been a very spotty sprinkle but nothing hit the collection guage. There was rain all around this area yesterday but most of it passed over or by here. There was thunders, dark sky spells, gusty winds at times and the rain yesterday noted above. A friend, maybe 11 miles from here (South and West)[road wise not as the crow flies] got only a few drops. The moisture from the rain Tuesday [5/11] was quickly dried up by the strong winds we've been having lately. Normal is gusty with a storm and then it is relatively "quiet", but lately the winds come in way before the systems and linger some days afterwards. Given the lengthy drought we've had, these storms bring down a lot of tree parts and some trees topple over. Too little rain and then too much rain and now it is becoming dryer and the trees are not 'happy'. BTW - we are deluged with swarms of HUGE black mosquitoes with silver bands on their abdomen, and spotted and grey ticks. Flies of all sizes are a problem also.
5/16/2010 7:00 AM 0.14 M M M M I checked the guage yesterday after a shower and it held 0.07 at 2:13p; another 0.05 after 6:16p; and another 0.02 this morning for a total of 0.14-in of precip over the reporting period.
5/17/2010 7:00 AM 0.40 M M M M There was 0.29 yesterday by 12"33p; 0.04 more by 4:31p and an additional 0.07 this morning for a total of 0.40 for the rep[orting period. Lots of thunders and lightning and one bolt hit close enough to cut the power momentarily and cause the garage door opener to blink several times. The door did not open though. The 0.29-in of rain fell in about 15 minutes.
5/18/2010 7:00 AM 0.19 M M M M There was 0.11-in precip yesterday by 10:33a; and an additional 0.08-in measured this morning - for a total of 0.19-in for the reporting period.

5/20/2010 7:00 AM T M M M M I didn't note the time, but the UPS was delivering a package so I went out and I felt a light mist falling on me and then it was over. If I had not gone out and felt it, I would have recorded a 'zero' as it left no 'mark' of its passage.
5/21/2010 7:00 AM 0.31 M M M M This fell before 6:44a this morning as there was no rain from then to when I checked the guage.
5/22/2010 7:00 AM 0.08 M M M M It rained sometime after 11:30p last night and before 6:39a this morning. We may have had some slight sprinkles before I went to bed last night as a cat would come in with some wet spots on its back but nothing was noticeable on the stepstones or wood porch slats; but everything was noticeably wet when I looked out this morning and it was "raining" in the trees, so it was a fairly recent rain at that time.

5/27/2010 7:00 AM 0.26 M M M M There was close thunders at 2:38p, 2:41p, 2:43p, 2:46p and so on but no rain so far. At 3:30p I looked out and it was pouring [0.23-in] but no thunders. 5/31/2010 7:00 AM 0.14 M M M M It rained at 11:05a; temp 74.2-F - no thunders, just a sudden downpour - 0.12-in. There was another 0.02-in overnight for a total of 0.14-in precip.
6/1/2010 7:00 AM 0.13 M M M M 0.03 by 12:33p; 0.04 more by 2:20p; 0.05 more at 5:48p; and 0.01 more when I checked this morning for a total of 0.13 for the reporting period. There was thunder at 2:11p but no rain until 2:14p; there was sprinkles at 4:50p but no precip in the guage.
6/2/2010 7:00 AM 0.16 M M M M We had a light shower at 10:15a but no measurable precip; grumbles but no rain at 11:03a; Heavy rain at 2:49p down to sprinkles by 3:07p = 0.14-in. When I checked the guage this morning there was an additional 0.02-in precip for a total of 0.16-in for the reporting period.
6/3/2010 7:00 AM 0.39 M M M M Heavy rain began to fall at 7:18p yesterday and strong changing winds were blowing. The drops were the big "can run between" type and while it was pouring, not many were hitting the guage. I guesstimated about 0.30 in of rain had fallen in 7 minutes - I can see guage enough to count black marks up the tube - it was likely more due to so many misses. At 7:31p it was over - total for this system = 0.37-in. This morning when I checked th guage, there was an additional 0.02-in precip for a total of 0.39 for the reporting period. It got up to about 86-deg yesterday at 5:02p - may have gone higher before beginning to drop but didn't check - was busy in the yard.
6/4/2010 6:58 AM 0.01 M M M M Cats came in last night slightly damp but looking out nothing looked wet. This morning the porch was damp looking and the guage had 0.01-in precip in it. No other rain before reporting.

6/9/2010 7:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Wow, if I'd been a few minutes later I would have had to wait and do a multi-day report as the bottom dropped out at 7:02a, right after I checked the rain guage. An interesting thing to consider: several times I've stood and watched a rather decent to heavy rainfall and watched the guage and in spite of it pouring down outside, there have been many times when there has been no movement in the guage. It is in the open with no obstructions - so I do believe there is more rain falling than I measure in the guage.
6/10/2010 7:00 AM 2.16 M M M M Up at 6:40a and hear grumbles in the distance. Close thunder at 7:02a and rain with a downpour at 7:04a and even heavier at 7:20a and mostly over by 7:25a. Still grumbling though. At 7:31a it was pitch black out and I went out to check the sky but couldn't see anything as it was dark all the way down. It was breezy but no rain until it became some what lighter and then more rain and thunders. Then a close bolt flash out the back window and strong rolling rumbles and heavy rain - lost TV signal. Not a lot is hitting the rain guage. It's pouring and the guage collection is still. 8:30a-still raining. Then sprinkles. 2:05p - grumbles; 2:10p - sprinkles, then light rain; 2:35p - stormy, thunders, flashes, lights blinking. Grumbles again at 4:30p with a very hard rain at 5:07p [temp is 78.3F]. I measured 0.94 by noon; 0.62 more at 2:57 [this amount fell in about 20 minutes - Weather Bureau didn't seem to be excited about it]. 0.27 more before 4:15p; 0.24 before 7:30p and 0.09 more overnight. If I added it all up correctly, that's over 2 inches of rain for the reporting period. We likely received a lot more given much seemed to be missing the guage.
6/11/2010 7:00 AM 0.96 M M M M I was in Cumberland County most of the day and measured 0.94-in when I returned home and another 0.02-in in the guage this morning when I checkeed.
6/12/2010 7:06 AM 0.04 M M M M Kept hearing grumbles but nothing around here. 1:50p - close grumbles; 2:10p still grumbling and lights are blinking but no rain here as yet. Sometime before 2:23p we had 0.02-in rain and it is still drizzling at 2:31p. It was damp looking when I went out to check the guage this morning and there was another 0.02-in precip for a total of 0.04-in for the reporting period.
6/13/2010 7:00 AM 0.07 M M M M There was just a trace of rain several times before dark but nothing measurable. This morning the porch was damp and there was 0.07-in precip in the guage. The ground is wet and soft to walk on but it isn't soggy this morning, so the large rainfall of the past few days is soaking in. This heat, humidity and heavy rain has 'damaged' the garden as the plants are very unhappy though the bugs are feasting. The grass in the garden is beautiful, the plants are declining. It's been way to wet to try and plant anything for some weeks and now too warm and wet to plant anything else. Too hot and dry last year, too hot and wet this year. More raised garden beds I suppose. At my house, the digital thermometer says it is already 82.4-F at 11:14am Sunday 6/13/10

6/15/2010 7:00 AM 0.07 M M M M About 1:30p I heard grumbles from the NW - Jamestown way. It was closer and still thundering at 2p but no rain as yet. At 2:10p we had rain, gusty winds and thunders, - 0.06-in by 2:31p. When I checked the guage this morning, there was another 0.01-in precip for a total of 0.07-in precip for the reporting period.
6/16/2010 7:00 AM T M M M M Heard distant thunders sometime before 3p; at 4:13p there was lots of rumbles but no rain. More and more thunders, some quite close and rattles windows. At 4:39p there was a storm alert for Cumberland Couinty referencing Fairfield Glades but nothing was ever reported about here - even with all the thunders and blustery winds. Therre was another alert for Cumberland County and it was clearing here by then. No rain I noticed. At about 7p I was in the yard and felt some sprinkles off and on for several minutes - thus the Trace report. I checked the rain guage this morning and it was dry.
6/17/2010 7:00 AM 0.11 M M M M Heard thunders off and on but the sky is mostly clear here. At 2:36p more grumbles but no rain. When I checked the guage this morning there was 0.11-in precip in it - it had rained "overnight".
6/18/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M I heard thunders about 4:10p but no rain. This morning the porch and steps were damp and the guage had 0.02-in precip in it. It must have been a rather scattered shower as part of the back garden beds were wet on a diagonal and the rest wasn't.
6/19/2010 7:00 AM T M M M M A strong, gusty wind began to blow, there was loads of thunders and a few drops but the storm itself passed us by.
6/20/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Not sure if what was out there was a very heavy dew or a very light rain - things were damp, the trees were dripping, the rain guage funnel had moisture on it but there was nothing in the inner guage - nothing. Since I didn't see what transpired, I'd rather note nothing.

6/29/2010 7:00 AM 0.89 M M M M I was in Jamestown when it began to rain somewhere about 2p-ish. When I returned home I checked the guage and it had 0.02-in precip in it. Later sometime before 5:30p we received another 0.46-in precip. At 5:54p very strong winds came up and the sky turned dark. At 5:55p we had a very heavy downpour and winds. At 6:03p there was thunders and more at 6:53p. So, sometime before 8p we had another 0.38-in precip and when I checked the guage this morning there was another 0.03-in precip for a total of 0.89 for the reporting period. I can't be more specific about when the various rains began as I was busy and so I noted the 'before' times for when I checked the guages after each rain spell.

The first splats were at 2:18p, and some sprinkles at 2:20p with lots of thunders. It's really dark out but just some splats so far - 2:27p. At 2:28p it began to rain with lots of wind and gusts. I measured 0.25-in for this rain by 2:40p. At 3:35p it got dark out again and we had rain at 4p and very heavy and hard at 4:05p. I lost the TV signal on this one. Thunder and rumbles at 4:15p. I measured another 0.51-in before 4:41p for that rain. Dark again at 4:56p and rain again at 4:57p - I measured 0.21-in more for this rain. It began to clear and the sun was out at 5:50p. We received a really nice rain but in pieces so there was no flooding here. The ground did have puddles.
7/11/2010 7:00 AM 0.04 M M M M At 6:54p we had some splats and sprinkles and I measured 0.03-in precip. The sun draws such that even with the rain yesterday, the squash plants and tomatoes were already shriveling and the pepper plants were beginning to. More and more plants are giving up and dying. NOAA radio woke me up at 1:11a this morning for [I think] Jackson County and I'd gotten up to listen to it and looked outside and could see a LOT of lightning north of here, but no thunders. 8/3/2010 7:00 AM T M M M M We had all of 6-9 drips. If I had not been standing outside and felt the drops and looked and saw 6 uneven wet spots on the otherwise dry steps, I would not have believed we had any precip. I checked the rain guage and it had a ddrop of water in it but it was not measurable ..... so it looks as if a drop hit the guage as well as me.

8/5/2010 7:00 AM 0.43 M M M M Thunder at 11:03p - 81.0F. Thunder is closer at 11:32p and still 81.0F. but no rain. Was woke up at 11:53p and it was thundering, flashing and pouring. And I do mean pouring, but it was relatively brief and it was quiet again. It was 73.6F at 6:30a and currently is 74.9F at 7:26a - another hot and humid day ahead.
8/6/2010 7:00 AM 1.02 M M M M There was 0.02 before 11:15a yesterday. There was thunders at 1:35p but no rain as of 1:50p. Thunders at 1:52p, 2:04p, 2:20p, etc., and when I looked out at 2:55p it was pouring. Flashes, thunders, lights blinking, blinking and even lost power for a bit. I measured 0.97 by 3:45p and it was still raining but more lightly. I had gone out after the earlier rain and sprayed as the weather animations didn't show anything close around and here comes this gully-washer. I checked the guage again later before 5:30p and there was another 0.02 more. When I checked the guage this morning it had another 0.01-in precip for a total of 1.02-in for the reporting period.
8/7/2010 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M We had a shower about 10:58a yesterday and the guage had 0.04-in precip in it. Then we apparently had a bit of a sprinkle overnight as the porch and steps, etc., were wet and the guage had a bit of moisture in it for a total of 0.05-in precip for the reporting period.

8/11/2010 7:00 AM 0.77 M M M M It began to pour at 3:45p yesterday afternoon and it was starting to lighten up at 4:20p and there was 0.76-in precip in the guage. It must have rained a bit overnight as there was another 0.01-in precip in the guage this morning for a total of 0.77-in precip for the reporting period. Just for info: right now 10:16p there has been thunder and lightenings since 9:45p but no rain here yet. Maybe something to report in the morning. WE really needed the rain we received yesterday.
8/12/2010 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M I noticed thunder and flashes about 9:45p and the "show" continued; at 10:03p it was closer and more often; checked the weather site and it showed the storm was all around my area but it wasn't over here. 10:25p more thunders and flashes but no rain yet. I lost the TV signal at 10:46p and when I looked out it was raining. The signal came back at 10:48p When I looked out at 11p it was not raining anymore. The shower was much appreciated though the garden is too far gone for it to help much.

8/14/2010 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M We had a nice, though rather brief shower at 12:56p just as I was getting prepared to go out and cut the grass. I'd waited for the grass to dry enough from the dew to cut and then this. It was about 7p when I did finally cut the front yard anyway.
8/15/2010 7:00 AM 0.04 M M M M It became rather gusty at 4:57p but no rain. Could hear thunder [for sure] at 5:26p, more thunders still at 5:50p but still no rain. It wasn't raining out at 9:25p but it was when I looked out at 10:39p. When I checked the guage this morning it held 0.04-in precip.

8/17/2010 7:00 AM 0.93 M M M M I looked out at 2:30p and it was raining and had stopped when I looked out at 3:10p = 0.80-in. Heard thunders at 4:20-25p and real close at 4:30p but no rain. More thunders at 4:56p but no rain. I looked out about 5:03p and it's raining again = 0.12-in. When I checked the guage this morning there was another 0.01-in precip for a total of 0.93-in for the reporting period.
8/20/2010 7:00 AM 0.18 M M M M I noted 0.09-in precip when I checked at 8:30a; 0.01-in when I checked at 9:00a and another 0.08-in this morning for a total of 0.10-in precip for the reporting period.

8/22/2010 7:00 AM 0.62 M M M M We had rain about 12:05p - 0.10-in; At 4:20p there was a close flash and boom but no rain as yet. We got some splats at 4:30p and by 4:34p it was a light shower and at 4:44p it was a downpour so hard you could hardly see through it - 0.50-in from 4:44p to 4:52p [8 min].I looked out at 8:30p and it had been raining and still was - 0.02-in. The total was 0.62-in precip for the reporting period. FYI: I watched the rain fall for some time and a lot of the drops were not registering into the guage so we likely had a lot more rain than was measured.

8/29/2010 7:00 AM T M M M M I had just gone out on the front porch when I heard LOUD thunder at 9:24p; there was a bright flash at 9:25p then heavy rumbles and sprinkles. If I had not gone out in the yard I would not have known we had any precip. At 9:58p there was still closer thunders and the lights were blinking but no visible rain. I checked again at 10:15p after it was quieter but still no visible rain. I checked the guage this morning and it was completely dry.

9/8/2010 7:00 AM 0.48 M M M M Woke up at near 3am by a noise and looked out and it was pouring, blowing and flashing. More rain at 5:24a and again at 6:20a. It was still raining lightly when I went out to measure the liquid in the guage. A light fog rose up but it didn't hang around very long.
9/9/2010 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M M M It must have been a quick, somewhat scattered shower as not everything looked like it had been rained on but the steps and such were wet, the rock around the LP tank was wet and the rest under was dry and there was a tiny bit of precip in the cylinder.
9/10/2010 7:00 AM T M M M M Looks like we had a very light, very scattered sprinkle. Small round wet spots are sprinkled here and there on the dry spots.

It was raining lightly when I looked out at 8:10p and when I checked the guage this next morning there was an additional 0.03-in precip for a total of 0.06-in for the reporting period. It all had hardly dampened the grass.

9/26/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M There was a light, short rain at 6:32a; don't know if it rained during the night. It's cool [64.3-F] at 10:48a with a light breeze and heavy cloud cover but no other rain so far.
9/27/2010 7:00 AM 0.01 M M M M I felt a light, misty rain here and there yesterday afternoon and this morning the porch was wet and that showed it had rained some and there was 0.01-in precip in the guage when I checked. It has lightly rained off and on since and it is gloomy out even yet. Temp was 59.6-F at 6:51a.
9/28/2010 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M Ay 4:35p there began a light shower and it was still lightly raining at 5:28p. It was a damp, breezy, chilly day out Monday. It looked as if it had rained overnight when I went out to check the guage. The highest temp I noted yesterday was 62.1-F at 2:16p.

10/16/2009 10/17/2009 7:01 AM 2 1.66 M M It was raining so hard the morning of 10/15 I wasn't able to go out until 10:14a and the guage had 1.50 in precip in it; at 3:09p there was an additional 0.03-in; the morning of 10/16 I measured 0.03-in more at 7:26a; and another 0.04-in at 4:30p; and this morning an additional 0.06-in for a total of 1.66 in precip for this multi-day reporting period. So far no rain this morning but it is very gloomy, and overcast. It has been breezy but right now the winds are calm. We are under a frost advisory for tonight and with the ground so wet, if we end up having even a light freeze [like tomorrow night], we will be crunching as we walk. It is due to warm up some later in the week but I think winter is ringing the bell to 'come in'.
1/21/2010 1/22/2010 7:04 AM 2 0.58 M M We likely received much more rain than was collected as the ground is 'marshy squishy' and the garden is a pond but we had blustery winds and it likely kept some precip out of the guage. Yesterday afternoon, evening and early night was thunderific and flashy and some really strong gusts but thankfully nothing really severe here.
1/24/2010 1/25/2010 7:00 AM 2 2.78 M M At 6:16a on 1/24 we had a very heavy rainfall and I was unable to go out and check the guage; at 7:45a 1/24 there was 0.80-in precip in the guage; we had heavy rain again at 9:45a and when I was able to go out and check the guage again it held another 1.81-in precip and when I checked this morning [1/25] there was another 0.17-in precip for a 2-day total of 2.78-in. We have had so much rain that the ground has a layer of water on top of it and one squishes as one walks across it. The garden is so soaked it is unwalkable as one would sink down several inches if one tried. Doesn't look good for an early spring planting if this keeps up. I was late planting last year due to the ground being so wet and even waiting for so long the 4-wheel drive tractor got mired down and was a struggle to get it out. We have had some really gusty winds and this morning things on the porch were blown around and the winds had driven the rain up the covered porch to halfway to the house. Today we are having rain/snow/wind so I have something to report for tomorrow.
4/7/2010 4/09/2010 7:00 AM 3 0.74 M M Was woke up about 6A on 4/8/10 by heavy rain and strong winds and thunderings [counts for 4/7/10]. Later we had showers and spurts of heavy precip and thunders but the wind wasn't as strong. [0.72-in] When I checked this morning [4/9] there was an additional 0.02-in precip in the guage for a total of 0.74-in precip over the multi-time period. Some people reported frost this morning but I didn't notice any here.
8/18/2010 8/19/2010 7:00 AM 2 3.49 M M FYI: I cannot give you a real-time estimate of the length of rainfall as it was raining when I looked out at 6:26a on 8/18 and I was not able to get to the guage at the 7:00a reading time. I had recorded 0.57-in precip at 7:55a 8/17 which is reported for 8/18. We had a close bolt and thunder at 6:30a 8/18 ... I was on the front porch and saw a bright, white flash and a boom like I was standing next to a heavy cannon going off. It put out the satellite TV signal. One thought to put with the rain accumulation for 8/18-8/19 is that I would watch it rain for some time and nothing hit in the guage so there is the real possibility we have had much more rainfall than the guage recorded. The soil is saturated and there is standing water in many places of the area around my yard. I tried to go into the garden and sank down about 4-in and more and decided not to try and pick anything. It was raining at 6:26a 8/18, still at 8:30a, still at 10:36a. I measured 1.63-in at 12:16p yesterday. At 1:50p it was raining again - noted 0.11-in more sometime before 3:24p. At 4:24p it was raining again - noted another 0.98-in sometime before 6p. I checked again about 7:44p and found another 0.12-in in the guage. It had rained before 6:59a this morning and I measured another 0.08 in before it started raining again. Please check the math but I added it up and the total was 3.49-in precip for the two day reporting period.
9/11/2010 9/12/2010 7:00 AM 2 0.76 M M There was 0.03-in Friday after sprinkles at 8:44a and a shower at 8:50a and then it clared. It was raining and thundering with a light fog when I got up Saturday and it was already past collection time by the time I was awake and dressed to go out. I measured 0.43-in at 7:42a. At 3:49p there was very gusty, strong winds, thunders and rain and I measured 0.14-in and I lost the TV signal. The sun briefly came out at 4:01p and then clouded over again. There was NO WARNING for this storm. NOAA did send out an alert for the next band but it was nothing compared to this one - 0.13-in. There was still thunders to be heard. 4:36p more rolling thunders; 4:38p lights are blinking; 4:48p - rumbles, close crack near the house, and can see storm approaching. 4:50p downpour and close thunders; 5:52p light flickering again [friend several miles away lost power for over an hour]; another 0.03 in guage this morning when I checked.
