Temperatures rose from 50F - 56F early morning minimums to 74F - 76F afternoon maximums, falling to 54F - 56F again by midnight CST. Dew point temperatures 44F - 40F late morning became 39F - 34F(lowest of autumn season)early afternoon, 34F - 39F late afternoon, 40F - 44F evening, 44F - 46F night/early morning 10/03/2009.

A weak cold front extending from east central IL across southeast MO/northwest AR early afternoon that became quasi-stationary during the late afternoon. Winds west 7-13mph gusts 15-21mph late morning/ afternoon became light west/southwest evening, light southwest/south to CALM night. Winds have become east/northeast 5-10mph early morning 10/04/2009, as rain cells are moving EAST across east central AR/ southwest TN/northwest MS. 10/03/2009 temperatures rose from 48F - 56F early morning minimums to 74F - 78F afternoon maximums. Dew point temperatures 42F - 45F late morning/afternoon became 46F - 51F evening/ night and 50F - 53F early morning 10/04/2009. The second synoptic feature was mid/upper troposhere moisture from Tropical Depression OLAF moving east/northeast across central/east TX, north LA, central/east OK and AR during afternoon/evening/night. Sky FEW CI late morning/early afternoon became SCT CI late afternoon, BKN CI evening, OVC CS night. Scattered rain cells have begun to move EAST across east central AR/southwest TN/northwest MS 4AM - 5AM CST 10/04/2009. 6AM CST/12 UTC surface observations indicate most amounts less than 0.10 inch, as heaviest amounts are falling over south central/southeast AR and north MS.
10/4/2009 12:59 AM 0.97 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Mid/upper troposphere disturbances moving east north of a quasi-stationary front that extended from east TX across north LA/south MS/south AL/south central GA Sunday 10/04/2009 caused moderate/occasionally heavy RAIN over east central AR/southwest TN/north MS. The RAIN began early morning 10/04/2009 continuing late morning/afternoon ending as very light rain and drizzle evening/early night. The heaviest amounts were over extreme southwest TN and north MS. Besides 0.97 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW, other known amounts were 1.05 inch at West Memphis AR (ASOS), 1.51 inch at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS), 1.19 inch at WMCTV-Channel 5/1960 Union AVenue/Memphis TN 38104. However, only 0.67 inch was recorded further north west TN at Jackson McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport TN (ASOS). RAIN began moving across the Mid-South early morning 10/04/2009 and was accompanied by east/northeast winds 7-14moph gusts 15-21mph through evening/night. High pressure(8:30AM CST 1016.7mb maximum at Memphis 3.2 NW)moved east, as pressure fell to 12midnight CST 1013.2mb daily minimum at Memphis 3.2 NW and continued to fall to 1010.1mb at 5:32AM CST. The 2nd feature was a QUASI-STATIONARY front that extended from east TX/north LA/south MS/south AL/south central GA. Winds northest/east 7-12mph late morning/early afternoon became east 3-7mph late afternoon/evening, light east/southeast night, southeast to south 5-10mph early morning 10/06/2009. Sky OVC SC(500 - 1000feet AGL)early morning became OVC SC(1000 - 2000feet AGL)late morning/afternoon, OVC SC(2000 - 3000feet AGL)evening, OVC SC(1000 - 2000feet AGL)nightand OVC SC(500 - 1000feet AGL)early morning 10/06/2009. OVC SC and east winds limited diurnal temperature range from 53F - 55F early morning minimums to 63F - 65F afternoon maximums. Dew point temperatures 52F - 56F morning became 56F - 58F afternoon/evening, 58F night, 58F - 60F early morning 10/06/2009. 1148UTC - 1248UTC WSR-88D regional image loops indicate MCC from north central TX/east OK/northwest AR to east central MO moving east. Also, 1258UTC WSR-88D local(NQA and LZK)indicated isolated/few rain cells over central and northeast AR.
10/6/2009 12:59 AM 0.05 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Again, two synoptic features played key roles in Mid-South weather Tuesday 10/06/2009: (1) A notable WARM front that extended from southeast OK across south AR/central MS/central AL and (2) a COLD front extending from northeast MO(just north of St. Louis MO)to north central AR/southeast OK. A weak low/mid troposphere disturbance moved east across east central/northeast AR and west TN during late morning, causing light/moderate rain over northeast AR/northwest TN and very light rain further south. Besides 0.03 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW, other known reports were 0.25 inch at Jonesboro AR (ASOS), 0.06 inch at Jackson McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport TN (ASOS), 0.03 inch at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS), 0.02 inch at West Memphis AR (ASOS). The second period of rain occured evening and night 10/06/2009 before and after passing of the COLD front. Besides 0.02 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW, other know reports were 0.03 inch at Jonesboro AR (ASOS), 0.04 inch West Memphis AR (ASOS), 0.01 inch at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS), 0.10 inch at Jackson McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport TN (ASOS) and 0.98 inch at Tupelo MS Regional Airport(11PM - 12midnight CST 10/06/2009 and 1AM - 3AM CST 10/07/2009.

However, the only known reports surface reports were trace amounts, as a trace was observed at Memphis 3.2 NW/southeast and southwest of Memphis 3.2 NW. Otherwise, polar continental airmass controlled Mid-South and most of southeast US, except Florida, 10/07/2009. Winds northwest to northeast 7-15mph morning/early afternoon became light northeast to east late afternoon/evening, light east to southeast night, light southeast to south early morning 10/08/2009. Sky FEW AC/FEW CI(mainly southeast to southwest)late morning/early afternoon became FEW SC/SCT AC/SCT CI late afternoon/evening, FEW SC/SCT AC night, SCT to BKN SC/BKN to OVC AC early morning 10/08/2009. Temperatures rose from 54F - 57F morning minimums to 71F - 74F afternoon maximums. Dew point temperatures 42F - 49F late morning/early afternoon became 50F - 54F late afternoon/evening, 55F - 58F night/early morning 10/08/2009. WSR-88D Image Loops indicate scattered showers and few thunderstorms moving northeast across north central/northeast AR and southeast/east central MO at 0638 CST/1238 UTC 10/08/2009. 0638 CST/1238 UTC WSR-88D Image Loops indicated only isolated rain showers moving northeast across east central AR/southwest TN/northwest MS.

Winds became SOUTH 8-18mph gusts 17-25 late morning/afternoon, SOUTH 9-17mph evening/night, SOUTH 10-17mph gusts 18-25mph early morning 10/09/2009. Sky became SCT to BKN CuCongestus during afternoon; however, only trace amounts were observed at station locales. Temperatures rose from 63F - 65F early morning minimums to 84F - 88F afternoon maximums. Dew point temperatures 54F - 59F early morning became 60F - 74F late morning, 75F - 74F afternoon/evening, 74F - 73F night/early morning 10/09/2009. MCS that moved northeast from southwest OK across southwest/central/east central MO 10/08/2009 afternoon continued to moved east/northeast across south central OK northwest AR east central MO evening/night. MCS is moving east/northeast across northeast TX/central to northeast AR/southeast MO/northwest TN early morning 10/09/2009. Based on local/regional WSR-88D One Hour Image Loops (1 - 2 inch amounts), NWS/WFOs have issued FLASH FLOOD WATCHES and WARNINGS for indicated locales!!
10/9/2009 12:59 AM 1.26 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Mesoscale Convective System(MCS)moved east/northeast across the Mid-South and lower Mississippi valley 6AM - 2PM CST Friday 10/09/2009. Although moderate/heavy rain was recorded, the only thunderstorm reported was 7AM - 8AM CST 10/09/2009 at West Memphis AR. No lightning was seen and thunder heard at Memphis 3.2 NW or Memphis International Airport TN. Besides 1.22 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW, other known reports are 1.33 inch at West Memphis AR (ASOS), 0.92 inch at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS), 1.62 inch at Jonesboro AR (ASOS), 1.19 inch at Jackson McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport TN (ASOS). A notable COLD front moved across the Mid-South 5:30PM - 6PM CST 10/09/2009. West/northwest wind gusts 28-31mph were recorded at Memphis International Airport TN and Memphis 3.2 NW. Following passage of the COLD front, periods of very light/light rain were observed and recorded at Mid-South station locales 5:30PM - 10PM CST. 0.04 inch was recorded at Memphis 3.2 NW and 0.03 inch at Memphis International TN (ASOS). There were NO evening/night available reports of additional rain amounts from Jonesboro AR (ASOS), Jackson McKellar-Sipes Regional Airport TN (ASOS) and West Memphis AR (ASOS). However, WMCTV-Channel 5/1960 Union Avenue/Memphis TN 38104 reported 1.25 inch 10/09/2009 daily amount at 10:15PM CDT.

However, GOES Water Vapor/IR Image Loops and surface observations indicated OVC SC continued to moved EAST across the region throughout the morning/afternoon, evening/night and sky remains OVC SC early morning 10/11/2009. Drizzle or very light rain was reported at Memphis International Airport TN late morning 10/10/2009. OVC SC and northeast winds 7-14mph limited the diurnal temperature range(50F - 56F). Dew point temperatures were more seasonable(46F - 49F range)morning/afternoon, evening/night and are 47F - 48F early morning 10/11/2009. 6:41AM CST 10/11/2009 surface presssure has reached 1024.8mb at Memphis 3.2 NW. However, sky remains OVC SC.

Rain associated with this MCS finally moved across east central AR/northwest MS/southwest TN 10:30PM - 12midnight CST. However, known rain amounts were very light. Besides 0.05 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW, 0.06 inch was reported at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS) and 0.02 inch at West Memphis AR (ASOS). 1228 UTC/0628 CST 10/12/2009 Regional WSR-88D Image Loops indicate that RAIN associated with this MCS continues to move east across south central/southeast/east central AR, south WEST/MIDDLE TN, north MS, north AL. The only known 12midnight - 6AM CST 10/12/2009 amounts were 0.03 inch at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS) and 0.01 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW.

Rain amounts were very light(less than NWS/HPC/NDFD model forecasts). Besides 0.03 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW, other known amounts were 0.04 inch at West Memphis AR (ASOS) and 0.06 inch at Memphis International Airport TN. After the Mid-South rain ended, dew point temperatures 56F - 62F late morning became 62F - 63F afternoon/evening, 62F - 61F night/early morning 10/13/2009. In spite BKN SC/OVC AC late morning/early afternoon, temperatures rose from 56F - 58F early morning minimums to 70F - 72F afternoon maximums. 1328UTC/0628CST 10/13/2009 Regional/CONUS WSR-88D Image Loops indicated ligth/moderate rain areas moving east/northeast across northeast TX/west and central AR. 0.25 inch is morning rain amount to 6:53AM CST at Little Rock AR Adams Field.

Secondary surface LOW developed in the WARM SECTOR over the Mid-South during evening/early night, as pressure fell to 10:45PM CST 1001.1mb/29.56inches minimum at Memphis 3.2 NW. Temperatures rose to 69F - 71F daily maximums and dew point temperatures rose to 66F - 68F early night!! As notable COLD front moved east/southeast across the middle and lower Mississippi during the afternoon, RAIN, mainly light continued and winds became northwest 8-16mph gusts 17-24mph late afternoon/evening/night. Thunder was heard vicinity of West Memphis AR and north of Memphis 3.2 NW early afternoon. As mid/upper troposphere LOW moved to south IN and lower troposphere disturbance moved southeast across northeast/east central AR and southwest TN, RAIN ended by 9:30PM CST. Occasional very light rain at Memphis 3.2 NW 3AM - 4AM CST does not appear to be measurable; however, actual amount will be verified after sunrise. Although rain began again at 1PM CST, Mid-South was in the WARM SECTOR afternoon/early evening. So, temperatures rose to 60F - 62F late afternoon maximums! Rain continued through the evening until a weak COLD front moved east northeast across the Mid-South. Known storm total ranged from 1.06 inch to 2.03 inches. Weak mid troposphere disturbance moved southeast across MO and middle MS valleys late afternoon/evening/night. Occasional very light snow was associated with this distubance over MO. However, as disturbance moved southeast to northeast AR/west TN, only SCT to BKN AC was observed. SKY has become CLR/6 horizonal miles HAZE early morning 2/12/2010. Winds are light west/northwest.

Weak lower torposphere disturbances moving east across east central - northeast AR/west TN/north MS caused scattered very light RAIN(as temperatures and dew point temperatures range 34F - 39F) 2:30AM - 3:00AM 2/14/2010. Known amounts are only a TRACE at Memphis 3.2 NW, West Memphis AR (ASOS), and Memphis International Airport (ASOS).

Also, SNOW totals were lower than expected. Amounts were less than 0.5 inch.

2/21/2010 11:59 PM 0.86 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Regional WSR-88D Image Loops and GOES IR Image loops indicated a mesocale convective system(MCS)and associated mid/upper troposphere disturbance moved east/northeast across the lower/middle Mississippi valleys and Tennessee valleys afternoon/evening night 2/21/2010 causing moderate/heavy RAIN and scattered THUNDERSTORMS/occasional cloud to ground lightning!! I was surprised at the amount of cloud to ground lightning strokes, considering dew point temperatures were 34F - 41F when thunderstorms began!! There were two periods of thunderstorms at Memphis 3.2 NW. The first period was 1400 - 1430 CST and the second period was 1640 - 1810 CST during period of heaviest rain! Besides 0.86 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW, 1.14 inch fell at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS) - 0.61 inch between 1653 and 1753 CST, as thunderstorm cells moved east across that station locale! Rainfall data was NOT available at West Memphis AR (ASOS) after 1653 CST. Prior to beginning of thunderstorms and rain, dew point temperatures 30F - 33F were a main parameter that enabled temperatures to rise from 38F - 43F early morning minimums to 65F - 68F early afternoon maximums!! These maximum temperatures were 8F - 11F ABOVE average 2/21/2010 maximum temperatures!!

Very light drizzle(TRACE only)was reported at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS) early morning 2/22/2010. Based on WSR-88D Base Reflectivity and One-Hour Image Loops, a few TORNADO WARNINGS/several SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS/a few FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS were issued by WFO Memphis TN and North Little Rock AR 12midnight - 3AM CST 3/11/2010!!! Frequent to Continuous CLOUD to GROUND LIGHTNING was observed at Memphis 3.2 NW and all other reporting locales throughout Mid-South US. Besides 0.51 inch(0.40 inch 12midnight - 1AM CST) at Memphis 3.2 NW, other known rainfall amounts were 0.70 inch(0.65 inch 12midnight - 1AM CST) at West Memphis AR (ASOS) and 1.10 inch(0.62 inch 12midnight - 1AM CST) at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS). SKY became CLR late morning/afternoon only to become FEW toSCT AC evening, FEW to SCT SC/BKN to OVC AC night, as next mid/upper tropospher disturbance approached from northeast TX/northwest LA/southwest - south central AR.

Besides 0.03 at Memphis 3.2 NW, other known afternoon amounts were 0.01 inch at West Memphis AR (ASOS) and trace at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS).

Another period of rain and scattered thunderstorms occurred 12:30PM - 1:30PM CST. Thunderstorms were accompnied by occasional CLOUD to GRUND LIGHTNING. According to WSR-88D Image Loops, a few thunderstorms reached SEVERE limts and NWS/WFO Memphis TN issued SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS for indicated locales! Besides 0.03 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW, other known early afternoon amounts were 0.11 inch at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS) and 0.04 inch at West Memphis AR (ASOS). Yet another period of rain and widely sccatered thunderstorms occurred 3:30PM - 4:00PM CST 3/25/2010. Besides 0.44 inch at Memphis 3.2 NW, other known storm total amounts were 0.61 inch at Memphis International Airport TN (ASOS)and 0.48 inch at West Memphis AR (ASOS).
