20 and cloudy very light wind. Snow started here at 9:15 with a quick accumulation of a half inch within 20 minutes. Then it backed off to light flurries with little to no accumulation until around 1:00pm. A light snow then occured and continued until around 6:30 with around 2 inches of snow on the ground by then. At that point the mix bag of sleet and freezing rain began interspersed with snow showers. At 11pm we had an average of 2 inches of snow/sleet on the ground--sleet and freezing rain compacted earlier snow fall. This morning there was an average of 3 inches of a crusted snow/sleet mix on the ground. 4-5 inches around objects like bushes where the sleet slid off and formed piles around them. Crust fairly sturdy. My gauge had a thin layer of freezing rain over it. Even snow mix inside was harder to melt than usual due to ice pellets in it. Guage reading is accurate since there was no loss due to wind. There is no ice accumulation on the trees. |

21 sunny and clear. There were no snow flurries at my house from 9:40-until 11pm when i went to bed. It had remained cloudy all day with little to no melting due to freezing temps. I measured for depth of snow and still came up with same value as yesterdy--I think the frozen layer on top, clouds and below freezing temps all combined to preserve that total from yesterday. The core sample came from the ground vs the actual cylinder. A perfect day for sled riding. Monthly totals: precip= 4.77 inches; new snow = 3.9 inches. |

An average of an inch and a qtr fell by 9:30-9:45pm when it converted over to a rain, snow, sleet mix followed by rain only. This morning the roads are mainly clear with a small amout of slush. There is still snow on the ground measuring at most a half inch--more like a qtr inch. 0.74 measurement includes both rain and snow equivilent values. 31 and mostly cloudy--a ray of sunshine briefly while I went out to get gauge. Before noon there were brief showers of "snowballs" vs flakes. Misty rain on and off from noon until about 5:30 pm when we got a steady light rain. Had 0.05 in my gauge by 10:05pm. Change over to freezing rain then to snow occured around midnight. I took top off gauge at 10:05 so I had about a qtr in of ice on the bottom followed by snow. So melted value from core is slightly skewed due to layer of ice. Currently spitting large flakes of snow now and then. Roads very slippery due to underlying ice layer. schools closed again!! |

I know in Madison where I work the storm came with powerful gusting--almost straight-line type winds and heavy rain. 74 and cloudy. Wow--going from no rain in 10 days to 3.47 in less than 24hours!! Rain started mid-afternoon in form of heavy downpours with occasional thunder and lightening. Local street flooding and lots of hydroplaning accidents on the commute home. That rain amounted to 2.30 inches when it was over around 7pm. Rain began again in form of mild thunderstorm and heavy downpour I think around 12:30 -1am. Must have rained early this am too. Total overnight was 1.17 inches. Day total of 3.47 inches. |

74 AND CLOUDY. Rain fell yesterday in two batches. The first was mid to late afternoon when 0.17 fell. Then the bulk of the rain started to fall late evening and really got started around midnight. A few moments of thunder and lightening--but most was just heavy prolonged rain. This resulted in 5.34 inches of rain. Total for day was 5.51 inches. Seems like its no rain or floods of epic proportions this year in tennessee. |
