Since yesterday I've had ghost dogs, they do not leave tracks on the icy topping of snow. The duck pond had a frozen crust on it yesterday which the geese crashed through but the ducks could walk upon, overnight much of the pond froze further so the geese & ducks could walk on frozen surface. Tarp over the chicken yard collapsed from the weight of the ice/snow yesterday. The old girls seem to appreciate the two heat lamps and have not ventured outside at all. Raods continue to be a packed snow/ice mixture and look worse today than yesterday. Snow accumulated on the sat. dish so internet access wasn't available till about 10 a.m.. Shortly thereafter many pounds of ice/snow slid off our house's metal roof, sounded like thunder! |

dark overcast sky, strong swirling wind, temp in low 70's. May 1 was a day of heavy rain, strong winds, and frequent trips to shelter, much local and regional flooding. By the time I was able to go home, many roads were reported closed due to flooding. Dry creek on one end of my road was completely out of it's bank and county emergency officials had closed it after a van and later a big truck (F-250) tried to get through and were washed off road by water flow. This are has been a water depth problem in the past but never this volume of flow or depth. Other end of the road has a pond where road meets state hwy and the pond became a pond with a road through it, flooding at least one double wide trailer. Last option to get home on state fire road through state forrest, we have always been able to get through but not this time. After a few hours a neighbor in his dump truck came through standing water at pond and gave me a lift home. He lived on the road for over 50 years and had never seen water in places that we saw it last night.
This morning looks like yesterday morning so we could have another long day. Weather radio continues to alert us but no apparent rain during the night. Still have power so all is well on my little hill. Ducks and geese seem very happy, chickens seem to wonder what the fuss is. |

On 5-2 went around the neighborhood, dry creek back in banks, everywhere there was a culvert & gravel road/driveway the culvert could not handle the flow and many washed out. The two other accesses to my place still under water from pond rising and low spot on state forrest fire road. Deep standing water everywhere, several cars being pulled out of area where the washed trying to cross the undry creek. Rain started at about noon and continued till dark. By 3:00 had approximately 3 in. rain and local flooding was starting. By 5:00 all access to my road was agin cut off, rain runnoff was in places not observed yesterday and deep enough to stop most vehicle traffic. Areas which were blocked still in the morning, by dark, were even deeper. Still blocked this morining. Local, regional flooding obvious, local/regional schools closed. Nashville apparently got hit even harder, no where for all the runnoff from the concrete/etc. to go I guess. Ducks/geese seem delighted still. |

Related to the recent flooding in our area, I live next to a state forrest and I have seen 1 copperhead and killed another and had one dog bitten by a poisonous snake, all this week. Apparently the flooding has forced them to move into other areas. Please be careful cleaning up debris or out walking just after dark |
