10/26/2010 2:00 PM 1.20 M M M M heavy wind and rain on tuesday night and the rain continued - on and off again and on - on Wednesday. Half of the accummulation was on Tuesday night and a 30 minutes downpour Wednesday afternoon brought the rest.
1/13/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M PLEASE NOTE: I AM BRINGING MY GAUGE IN FOR THE WINTER. I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING SINCE OCT 31, AND IN DECEMBER (31ST), I LOST MY DEAR DOG, SPOT, TO CANCER (WITHIN 2 MONTHS) AFTER A 2 MONTH ILLNESS. I WILL PICK UP THE TASK IN THE SPRING (2011).
5/4/2011 9:00 AM 0.68 M M M M Good soaking rain, heavy at times and slow at other times. Rainfall most of day.
5/6/2011 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Bright, cool spring morning with no rain fall. Cold last night and this early am. Now at 12:45pm, it is warming up to a wonderful late spring day - 75 degrees, with a few high puffy clouds
5/7/2011 9:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Oops, yesterday i praised the cool blue sky-ed day with large puffy white clouds. By 4 pm, a few rain drops (very few) fell. At 7 pm I saw huge black clouds racing in from the SW. At 10 pm, I heard what sounded like fire crackers until the big one hit. Lightening and thunder! For all the noise, only 1/100th of an inch fell.
5/19/2011 3:00 PM 0.08 M M M M The weather is continuing to be wet, then dry then wet again. Today, Thursday at 3pm, the rain is beginning again, first time since last night. the day's high dark clouds have given way to grey and white thunderheads plus blue sky.
7/5/2011 9:00 AM M M M M M Almost every day I check the rain gauge. If there has been no rain, I occasionally do not. We have just completed a more than 2 week period of amazingly pleasant weather - almost like Southern California days with blue skies and a few puffy white clouds and low humidity. The bug population has been hiding away until the humidity returned which it did over this past weekend: the 4th of July! Saturday and Sunday were lovely, Monday the 4th was a bit hotter (82% here on the Bay) and today with the heat rising to the 90s with humidity already at 80%. The insects are in 'full cry' today! Dates and amounts of rain recorded in past month: 6-2-11 0.22 9 am 6-9-11 0.90 am 6-11-11 0.06 am 6-13-11 0.04 6-16-11 0 6-18-11 0.22 6-20-11 0 July 4-11 0.45 noon July 5-11 0.03 9 am A day or so ago, I submitted a number of collection amounts for this site. I am hoping the Cocorahs computer can merge the two reports. (edit: daily precip initially recorded as 1.70". changed to NA as this appears to be a multi-day report. observer will be contacted. P.G.)
7/9/2011 9:00 AM 0.88 M M M M Several HOT and HUMID days with no rainfall. Then last night (7-8-11) about 5:15 pm, the wind blew up and the Bay had rollers flowing in from NE to SW. At almost exactly 6 pm, the rain began - hard, hard, hard! thunder and lightening were close overhead and the rain off my flat roof looked like Niagra Falls. The rain was overhead for about an hour, moving from the north. At 7 pm, I went out to an event as the weather man on TV warned of flooding on the roads. I drove 50 minutes NW and saw NO road flooding. However several low fields were under water in farm areas. The light rain persisted, on and off, until I came home about 10:15 pm. No more thunder and lightening - just on and off light rain.
7/12/2011 8:00 AM 0.13 M M M M Lots of strong thunder and lightening last evening: started about 7 pm far away in the distance. the storm moved nearer and nearer until it was right overhead - loud and scary. the rain was surprisingly little after all of the noise and light.
7/19/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain yesterday, altho a very HOT, HUMID summer day! Today, July 19, 2011, has been sticky and hot - high nineties - and now at about 4 pm, the thunder is rolling in. Hopefully we will get rain for the gardens and to cool off the temperatures.
8/5/2011 9:00 AM 0.24 M M M M A lovely sunny summer day without oppressive heat and humidity. In the 80s with a breeze off the Bay. Quiet overnight rain (? don't know when)

9/29/2010 10/01/2010 11:00 AM 3 9.27 M M The high winds and driving rain of the hurricanes coming up the Atlantic coast have delivered lots of heavy rain and three days of dramatic waves in the Chesapeake Bay as well as strong gusts of wind - at least 30 mph or more. (I was out of town for 6 days returning on Tuesday eve, the 28th of September.) Wednesday the gauge was at 1.02. Perhaps that had fallen during my absence but much of it may have been Tuesday night. Wednesday night the heavy rains began and by the time I emptied the gauge at 1 pm on thursday, it was filled with 4.95 inches of rain. Most of Wednesday and Thursday were overcast and raining, sometimes heavy and other times, mildly. today, Friday, october 1st, the gauge held 3.30 inches. The winds have blown down lots of dead limbs and wiped bunches of leaves off the trees. Beautiful, dramatic and messy!
10/3/2010 10/05/2010 11:00 AM 3 1.22 M M The storm continued on sunday with grey cloudy skies and drizzle beginning mid day. Colder temperatures - a wet fall day. Monday's gauge read 1.20 inches at 6 pm (Monday was grey and cold but little new rain). Today, Tuesday (the 5th of October) at 11 am, the gauge had only 0.02 inch of rain. The morning was cloudy with a beautiful sun breaking through the grey clouds and shining onto the Bay. the eastern shore of MD (8 miles out to the east) shone clear - silouted against the horizon.
10/5/2010 10/07/2010 1:00 PM 3 0.00 M M There has been no mositure falling from the skies for the last 2 days. the ground is still moist and rich from the rains of the past few weeks and fall is clearly here.
10/11/2010 10/14/2010 2:45 PM 4 1.01 M M October 11, 2010: a dry lovely warm fall day October 12, 2010: same lovely day - dry October 13, 2010: a few rain drops, enough to wet some of the pavement and no accumulation of water in gauge October 14, 2010; RAIN DUE LAST NIGHT DID NOT COME until early today. It began slowly this morning and became torrentail by 10 am and continued until noonish - when it slowed down but did not stop. Now at 3:30, the rain is sporatic.
5/14/2011 5/18/2011 9:00 AM 5 1.40 M M 5-14-11: lovely cool spring weather has continued for about a week. No rain. Puffy clouds and blue skies until Friday (5-13-11) when high grey clouds covered the sky all day. After dark, rain began, quietly at first, followed by heavy rain late at night (0.16 inches). Rain ended by dawn; restarted about 10:30 am: heavy at first, then light, then very heavy. the afternoon was overcast but no rain until about 6:00 pm when a very light rain began again (1.09 inches). On Saturday and Sunday (5-14/15-11), thunder and lightening - sounding VERY close, on and off. Sunday became lovely until 6:00 pm when rain began again. Monday was very cool (50s early) with threatening high clouds. The day became sunny and warm by mid-afternoon. Tuesday (5-17-11) rain started and stopped all day: very heavy at times, then no rain, then dribbling rain, then a torrent all day and night. Today, Wednesday, a clear day to start (7:00 am) and soft rain began about 9:00. A few minutes of a torrent, then stopped. The gauge had 0.25 inches at nine am.
5/22/2011 5/23/2011 4:00 PM 2 0.23 M M A lovely weekend with sunny days and a few high clouds. No day time rain until this afternoon when light(very light) drops of rain began at 6:30 pm. Saturday night's rainfall was 0.08 and Sunday night's rainfall was 0.15. High clouds tonight and occasional droplets.
6/21/2011 7/03/2011 12:00 PM 13 1.30 M M Several days of rain: 6-21-11 0.62 6-28-11 0.28 7-2-11 0.03 7-3-11 0.63 2 weeks of California like weather: Cold nights (50s-60s) with 75 to 80 degree days with LOW humidity. Wonderful! Small rains or NONE. Today more humidity and a sense of heaviness that comes with the shift to a humid life. Tonight, thunder and lightening started at 7 pm. Heavy black clouds overhead and the sound of lightening and thunder. ...ongoing!
7/13/2011 7/18/2011 8:00 AM 6 0.90 M M Wednesday, July 13, 2011: 0.88 inches (measured on the 14th of July): hot, bright and humid morning with 'heavy air'. 95 degrees. 2:30 pm sky begins to rapidly darken. By 3:40 pm, thunder and lightening moving towards my land: 3:56 pm - torrential rain for 20 minutes, which slowed down to steady slow rain by 4:21 pm. The torrent returned at 4:38 pm and by 6:00 pm, it had stopped -leaving behind it a thick, low dense fog which lifted briefly. By 7:30 pm, all was dry - but the low fog blinded me as I drove out for a meeting. Fog continued all night. The storm had the effect of relieving the humidity and dropping the temperature. Thursday morning was clear at 7:00 am with temperatures in the 60s early. Blue skies and clear. July 15, 2011: 0.02 inches July 16 - 18, 2011: no rain fall
7/25/2011 7/31/2011 3:30 PM 7 0.36 M M We are into a pattern of days of not moisture except for humidity (high). On Monday, July 25,2011, an afternoon storm blew up over the Bay and West River (Shady Side, MD) from the north at about 3:45pm. our meeting group watched as the thunder thundered and the lightening moved south toward us. Intense rain began slowly and then fell for about an hour at varying rates of intensity. On Tuesday morning, July 26, 2011, the gauge has less water in it than I thought the storm would bring. Tuesday through Saturday, we had more intense heat (in the 90s to 100s) and no rain. High humidity most days until yesterday when the humidity dropped in the evening (4:30 ...). Today, Sunday, July 31,2011, a low humidity, increasingly windy day with light clouds until about 2:00 pm when thunder in the north warned of rain. The sky clouded over with grey-black clouds and the intense rain finally broke. However it only lasted for about 1/2 hour, and now at 3:50, the blue sky is back, windy and a feeling that more may come today.
7/31/2011 8/03/2011 9:00 AM 4 0.77 M M Sunday, August 31, 2011: the day's early storm chased all the boaters off the Bay early in the afternoon. Then the sun returned about 45 minute later and the breeze was gentle and boaters all flooded back out. The rest of the day was lovely with puffy white clouds and blue sky. August 1, 2011 - Monday, Looking ('listening')north, loud thunder in the distance started about 5 pm. By 6:15 pm, thunder and lightening were moving towards us. By 6:30 pm, wild wind and rain with t&l washed over my land. At 6:35, the transformer at the bottom of my driveway blew out with LOUD explosion. Very high wind (at least 50 mph) was dragging branches out of the trees and bending the tallest trees sideways. No, surprise - the power was out! The eastern shore had been visible at 5 pm; by 6:15 it was totally obscured by the fog and ground (water) level storm. Power was back on at 2:30 am of August 2. Tuesday's dawn was cooler (60s) and low in humidity. Temperatures still in the 90's but less oppressive. August 1 rainfall: 0.75. August 2: yard, driveway and pool filled with downed branches and large leaf clusters. It looks like a tornado has blown thru. August 3 - Wednesday - awoke to grey skies and overcast that has keep the temperature down (high 80s). Rain gauge had 0.02 in this am at 9:00.

Must have been quiet rain during the night as I hear no T & L or heavy rainfall. A day of blue sky and puffy white clouds until 3:30 pm when when T & L started to the west. Black thunderheads came rolling in over us. The weather man had torrential rain falling everywhere else but none came here until after dark. About 7:30 pm, the torrent began and when I looked out on the porch, it looked like a stream flooding across the porch. 0.72 rain this am in the gauge.
8/21/2011 8/23/2011 8:45 AM 3 0.72 M M Sunday the 21st of August started as a hot summer day with humidity - altho nothing like what we had in July: 80s with medium humidity. High white clouds of the overcast sort with good light. By mid afternoon - 2 pm - we could hear the Thunder start off in the distance to the NW. By 4 pm, the black clouds had blown in and rain began: L & T with torrents of rain at times. By 5:15 pm, it had slowed to a dribble, then ended. I looked at the gauge at 5:30 pm and it had 0.70. On Monday 10 am there was 0.02 in the gauge. Yesterday felt like fall as does today (8-23-11). High clouds and blue sky with a lovely fall breeze, high 70s. Gauge was empty this am.
8/28/2011 8/30/2011 10:00 AM 3 5.32 M M Hurricane Irene arrived Saturday am with wind and rain - steady all day. Power went out at 5 pm on 8-27-11. I went to my son's in Virginia for the night. Returned Sunday night about 6 pm. Rain had fallen all day Sunday the 28th. Monday the 29th dawned with cool temperatures (high in the 70s) with a blue sky and soft wind. The gauge held 5.30 on Monday morning. Today is a cool fall day with blue skies and soft wind. the gauge held 0.02 inches of rain this am. The yards are full of broken branches and fallen trees. Most of my neighborhood is still without power on Tuesday afternoon with the likelihood of no power until at least Wednesday night. (accordingly to the BGE truck in the neighborhood.)
