Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/1/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A rather nice day on Thursday, with a solid mix of sunshine and clouds through the afternoon, giving way to clearing conditions into the evening as weak high pressure arrived. Clear skies and light winds allowed lows to sneak down into the middle 30s overnight, a bit cooler than expected.
10/2/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A bright and sunny start to the day on Friday gave way to increasing clouds through the afternoon as a weak clipper system dropped toward the area. All of the rain with this system, however, remained south of this location.
10/3/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Quite the cloudy and chilly day on Saturday, as the coldest airmass of the fall season so far descended upon the area. Initially clear skies quickly gave way to developing cold air stratocu, before dissipating through the late afternoon. Highs struggled to reach the mid 40s. Clear skies and light winds overnight allowed lows to dip to around 30 degrees, with a thick frost noted everywhere.
10/4/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A beautiful, albeit chilly day on Sunday as high pressure built into the area. Overnight lows were quite cold with clear skies and light winds, with a reading of 28 degrees at this location.
10/5/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M The start of a beautiful stretch of October weather on Monday, with a large area of high pressure in control. Outside of a brief period of thicker cirrus drifting overhead during the late morning hours, skies were just plain sunny, with light winds prevailing. Clear skies overnight allowed lows to again dip to 32 degrees, with a decent frost noted.
10/6/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A beautiful day on Tuesday with plentiful sunshine (outside of some brief surprise mid cloud during the morning) and highs warming well into the 60s.
10/7/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Another spectacular day on Wednesday, with just some increase in mid cloud noted through the afternoon in advance of an approaching cold front.
10/8/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Yet another great day on Thursday with high pressure overhead providing full sunshine, though afternoon winds did get a bit gusty thanks to increased mixing. Temperatures overnight dipped rather quickly after sunset with light winds prevailing, however, readings warmed from the lower 40s into the lower 50s after 2 am as a light southwest breeze kicked up.
10/9/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A very warm day to round out the work week on Friday, with a high of 73 degrees here. Temperatures were very slow to fall through the evening, with readings still in the mid to upper 50s through 1 am.
10/10/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Another day of brilliant sunshine on Saturday, with not a single cloud in the sky for the afternoon hours.
10/11/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Another beautiful sunny day on Sunday. Mid level clouds increased overnight, with a few light showers noted south of this location. A plume of dense fog rolled into the area off Otsego Lake just before observation time.
10/12/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A very foggy start to the day on Monday, with fog lingering up through about 10:30 am, before giving way to low clouds through about midday. Sunshine then increased through the afternoon, with highs just short of 60 degrees. Temperatures then crashed through the low 30s during the overnight hours under clear skies (low clouds just to the south).
10/13/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Another fantastic day on Tuesday with high pressure in control. After some morning light fog, skies cleared for the afternoon, before clouds thickened overnight as a cold front worked into the area. A few showers skirted around this location through the night, but some rather unexpected light drizzle did make an appearance just before sunrise.
10/14/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M After a cloudy, drizzly, foggy start to the day on Wednesday, skies cleared quickly by 10am as a cold front pushed through the area. Thick cirrus then returned for the afternoon, before exiting by sunset. Clear skies and light winds allowed for some thick frost by observation time.
10/15/2010 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M 0.0 M The first rain of the month as a clipper system dropped through the area Thursday evening. The majority of the rain ended up well to the south and west of this location. Skies cleared quickly during the overnight hours, leaving plenty of bright skies by observation time.

10/18/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M What a great day for a birthday party (for me, my daughter, and my son). Temperatures on Sunday only reached the middle 50s despite plenty of sunshine, making for a perfect mid October day.
10/19/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M The daylight hours of Monday provided periods of stratoculus beneath a rather chilly airmass, as highs struggled to reach the lower 50s. Clouds thickened into the overnight hours along an approaching frontal boundary, with a few light showers pushing through the area between 1:45 and 2:30am. Rain wasn't even enough to wet the ground, but as skies cleared by 3 am, temperatures dipped toward freezing, making for an interesting setup as the fallen rain froze on all elevated surfaces.
10/20/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M A beautiful fall day on Tuesday, with a mix of sun and clouds. Clouds thickened overnight in advance of an approaching cold front, with just a couple drops of rain noted around 6:30 am, before skies rapidly cleared by observation time.
10/21/2010 7:00 AM 0.04 0.0 M 0.0 M After a very nice start to the day on Wednesday, which saw plenty of sunshine with occasional mid level cloud cover, clouds thickened into the afternoon and evening along an approaching cold front, which fired off a round of showers and thunderstorms. One brief shower on the tail end of the front brought just a few drops of rain to this location. Much colder air pouring in overnight provided an increase in lake effect rain showers, though amounts were quite light (only 0.04).
10/22/2010 7:00 AM 0.04 T M 0.0 M The first snowflakes of the season! Thursday was just a plain cold and blustery day, as the coldest airmass of the season so far slipped into the area. The result was occasional rain and snow showers early, changing to all snow for the late morning and afternoon. Given interludes of sunshine, and still rather warm ground temps, snow did not stick, but did fall hard for a time around 3:00 pm. Snow wound down through the evening, giving way to clearing skies overnight.
10/23/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Cold air lingering across the area through midday brought periodic cumulus and stratocumulus clouds to the area, giving way to increase mid clouds as warm advection cranked up aloft. Skies then cleared rapidly by mid afternoon, before mid clouds then redeveloped during the late everning and overnight hours.
10/24/2010 7:00 AM 0.79 0.0 M 0.0 M After a rather benign start to the day on Saturday, clouds thickened and lowered into the afternoon as a warm front lifted north into the area. Rain fell off and on through the day, giving way to thickening fog and drizzle overnight. Fog was very thick by around 3 am.
10/25/2010 7:00 AM 0.49 0.0 M 0.0 M A warm front laid across the region Sunday brought periodic showers (some heavy at times) through the evening hours, as a deep line of convection laid out just to the south (from southern Michigan toward Saginaw Bay). A rather surprise thunderstorm developed literally overhead around 3 am overnight, providing some decent lightning and very heavy rainfall.
10/26/2010 7:00 AM 0.12 0.0 M 0.0 M After a quick additional round of showers around 8 am on Monday, a very warm and quite mild (by late October standards) day followed with highs inching toward 60 degrees thanks to a developing south breeze. Deep low pressure intensifying over the upper midwest overnight brought increasingly gusty southeast winds, along with just a brief shower around 3 am.
10/27/2010 7:00 AM 0.29 0.0 M 0.0 M Quite the active weather day on Tuesday, as very deep low pressure (955mb) bombed out across Minnesota, swinging a strong occluded front through the area right around 3 pm. A round of very heavy showers accompanied the front, before skies actually cleared for a time in its wake. Winds gusted to 49mph at this location with the passage of the boundary, with gusty conditions persisting through the overnight hours.
10/28/2010 7:00 AM 0.14 0.0 M 0.0 M One of the windiest days in my lifetime as intense low pressure spun over the arrowhead of Minnesota, and a tight pressure gradient crossed the region. Combined with deep mixing, winds gusted to 58 mph at this location, helping snap several trees, including one that leaned out over our house. Quite a bit of sporadic damage was also noted all throughout northern Michigan, with tens of thousands losing power (thankfully not here). Occasional showers arrived during the late afternoon and evening hours as colder air wrapped back into the region.
10/29/2010 7:00 AM 0.17 T M 0.0 M Periodic lake-helped showers were noted through much of the first half of the day on Thursday, with occasional lake effect rain showers continuing through early morning hours, even mixing with snow at times. Pelletted snow briefly tried to coat elevated surfaces as temperatures fell to around 34 degrees.

11/1/2010 7:00 AM T T M 0.0 M Early clouds gave way to developing stratocumulus through the morning, along with a few light snow showers around 11:30 am as colder air moved into the area. Clouds cleared into the afternoon, leaving just plain sunny (but chilly) conditions through Trick-or-Treat time (with dewpoints falling into the lower teens!). Temperatures fell quickly after sunset, falling into the upper 20s by 7 pm. All in all, a perfect Halloween in northern Michigan!

11/3/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A rather interesting cloud pattern through mid morning Tuesday, as stubborn low clouds held fast overhead, while blue sky was visible literally 2 miles to the north (a very sharp edge). Clouds finally eroded by 11:30 am, leaving plenty of sun for the afternoon, with just a few cumulus noted and a nice light southwest breeze. Clouds thickened overnight in advance of an approaching cold front.
11/4/2010 7:00 AM 0.07 0.0 M 0.0 M An upper trough axis crossing the region during the mid morning brought just a brief round of light showers through the area (providing just a trace). Conditions remained just plain cloudy the rest of the day in advance of an approaching cold front, which crossed the area during the early evening hours. Cooler air invading in the wake of this system provided a brief uptick in lake effect rain showers overnight, ending right around observation time.
11/5/2010 7:00 AM T T M 0.0 M Plenty of cloud cover around through the day on Thursday, along with a few passing sprinkles. A couple lake effect snow showers moved through the area during the late evening and overnight hours, even briefly coating the deck and mulch in white, however all snow melted by observation time.
11/6/2010 7:00 AM 0.01 0.2 M T M The first measurable snow of the season noted between 5:00 and 6:30 pm on Friday, as the flow backed more northwesterly and lake effect bands pushed into the area. Snow actually fell rather heavily around 5:30 pm (with some big flakes), easily coating all surfaces as high temperatures Friday failed to reach 30 degrees. Skies cleared rather quickly overnight as high pressure arrived, allowing lows to dip into the upper teens.
11/7/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A rather nice early November day on Saturday as high pressure remained across the region. Intervals of mid and high clouds were mixed with full sunshine through the day (and night for that matter), with highs just shy of 40 degrees. An increasing gradient and southwest winds overnight held temperatures only in the lower 30s.
11/8/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Just a perfect November day on Sunday with high pressure in control, providing plentiful sunshine, light winds, and temperatures warming through the lower 50s. Clear skies and light winds overnight allowed temperatures to fall back through the upper 20s.
11/9/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A beautiful day on Monday, but with a rapid development of dense fog noted just after midnight. Fog remained quite dense through observation time.
11/10/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Thick fog and low clouds hung tough through about 10:30 am on Tuesday, but quickly gave way to full sunshine for the afternoon, with highs reaching 57 degrees here. Clear skies persisted the first half of the night, however low clouds and some dense fog returned before sunrise.
11/11/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Morning fog on Wednesday was gone quickly by 9:30 am, giving way to full sunshine and another beautiful day Wednesday afternoon, with highs well into the 50s once again. Some light fog redeveloped once again overnight, but nothing worse than 4 or 5 miles visibility.
11/12/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M The nicest day of the warm day stretch as southerly winds in advance of an approaching but weakening cold front pushed the mercury to 63 degrees. Thickening mid and high clouds overnight kept temperatures quite mild, with a low of just 43 degrees at this location.
11/13/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Thickening mid and high clouds noted throughout the day on Friday, with just an occasional sprinkle, most notably just before 2 pm. Another mild night took place with lows only near 40 thanks to plenty of cloud cover, with a few more sprinkles noted around 4 am.
11/14/2010 7:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M 0.0 M Finally a little rain. Clouds thickened and lowered slowly through the day on Saturday ahead of an approaching cold front as a rather strong wave of low pressure tracked into the upper midwest. A brief band of showers accompanied the passage of the front into the evening hours, though amazingly, all surfaces were dry by observation time.
11/15/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 T M 0.0 M Mid level dry slot quickly overtook the area Sunday morning, leaving plenty of low stratus and just some periodic light drizzle. Developing southwest flow lake effect under strengthening cold advection brought a few showers into the afternoon hours, with precipitation changing to snow after sunset. One band of moderate snow briefly overtook the area just before 10pm, with some huge (almost half-dollar sized) flakes helping coat elevated surfaces. However, the snow melted quickly after ending as temperatures held around 34 degrees, with only a skiff of snow noted on rooftops by observation time (not enough to call it a trace for depth).
11/16/2010 7:00 AM T T M 0.0 M A couple flurries noted through midday Monday, giving way to mainly cloudy conditions for the afternoon, with a few peaks of sun noted just before sunset. 11/17/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M A beautiful day on Tuesday as high pressure built into the region. After some morning light fog, skies became sunny through early afternoon, with highs reaching 51 degrees here. High clouds thickened into the evening and overnight hours as developing low pressure tracked through the Ohio Valley.
11/18/2010 7:00 AM 0.18 T M 0.0 M After a rather cloudy and gloomy day on Wednesday, colder air pushing into the area led to the development of late afternoon and evening lake effect rain showers, with rain actually falling heavily at times before midnight. Rain slackened off quickly just before midnight, leaving only a few flurries the remainder of the night.
11/19/2010 7:00 AM 0.08 0.6 M T M A rather heavy snow squall moved through the area around 9 am, quickly coating most surfaces. That snow melted rather quickly by 10:30 am, before another arrived around 5 pm, leaving a fresh coating, which stuck around through the night as temperatures held in the upper 20s.
11/20/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Quite the gloomy day on Friday with plenty of low clouds around the area through the day, with a gusty southwest winds helping low wind chills down into the 20s. A few spits of drizzle were noted right around 6 pm with the passage of an initial cold front, with a stronger front crossing the region around 2 am, sending temperatures falling back through the 20s.
11/21/2010 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Low clouds stuck around through much of the day on Saturday, only slowly lifting into the evening, only to be replaced by invading mid and high clouds. 11/22/2010 7:00 AM 0.08 0.0 M 0.0 M Quite the change in temperature over the past 24 hours, as readings remained stuck in the mid 30s through the daylight hours of Sunday, with lots of low clouds and periodic drizzle/light rain developing in advance of an approaching warm front. That front quickly blew through the area overnight, with developing south winds sending temperatures soaring to 54 degrees as of observation time.
11/23/2010 7:00 AM 0.01 T M 0.0 M What a dramatic 24 hours with temperatures. Temps cooled a bit during the morning and early afternoon hours on Monday, as a weak cold front slipped through the area. A newly developing warm front to the south then surged north through the late evening, sending readings soaring to 57 degrees. Increasing moisture ahead of the boundary led to a round of fog and drizzle into late evening as well. A cold front then rapidly moved through the region just before midnight, with temperatures falling quickly through the low 30s by observation time. A few flurries also filled the air by 7 am.
11/24/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 0.4 M T M On and off lake effect snow showers were noted through the day on Tuesday, tapering to just flurries into the evening hours. Low clouds held tough through the overnight hours, keeping lows mainly in the middle 20s.

12/8/2010 7:00 AM 0.04 1.8 M 6.0 M Lake effect snows again targeted areas west of this location over the past 24 hours, with some impressive totals, but we just couldn't get into any good banding. The lone exception came between 7 and 8 pm last night, with one quite heavy band (featuring 50-1 ratios) dropped through the area, depositing a quick fluffy inch, followed by a few lighter snow showers overnight.
12/9/2010 7:00 AM 0.02 0.8 M 6.0 M More fluffy snow noted over the past 24 hours as periodic (mainly light) lake snow showers pushed through the region. Little to no wind overnight allowed snow to stick to the trees, making for an awesome site come sunrise as sunshine finally broke through.

12/30/2010 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 6.0 M A downright beautiful day on Wednesday, with nearly full sunshine and highs warming to 42 degrees here. Some light snow melt was noted, but dewpoints holding in the upper teens helped keep much of the snowpack intact. Clouds lowered quickly overnight as much warmer air rushed into the region, with a period of light freezing rain and drizzle crossing the area between 4:30 and 6:00 am. This coated all surfaces with temperatures holding in the lower 30s, making from some very slippery travel around town this morning.
12/31/2010 7:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M 3.0 M Quite the warmup over the past 24 hours, with temps rising above freezing by 9 am Thursday, ending the light freezing drizzle. A round of light rain moved through during the mid evening hours (around 6 pm), giving way to just continued fog and periodic light drizzle overnight, as readings warmed through the lower 40s. The snow is melting incredibly fast...probably won't have much left by this time tomorrow morning. Hard to believe around here.
1/1/2011 7:00 AM 0.08 0.0 M T M Happy New Year!! WOW - it looks and feels like spring out there this morning! Periodic light rain and drizzle crossed the region during the afternoon hours of Friday, giving way to some very dense fog overnight. 2/10/2011 7:00 AM 0.08 2.3 M 15.0 M Some nice (and rather fluffy) lake effect snow showers rolled through the area between roughly 7:30 and 9:30 am on Wednesday, giving way to just scattered activity for the afternoon, mixed with periods of sunshine as well. Lighter lake snows/flurries continued overnight but produced only a dusting of fresh snow.

2/12/2011 7:00 AM 0.17 4.5 M 19.0 M A nice over-achieving winter event for once around these parts. Quick moving clipper system interacting with Lake Michigan sparked a blowup of snow across the area through the late evening and overnight hours, with snow regenerating over the higher terrain. Synoptic snow transitioned to some rather beefy lake effect snow showers around 5 am, persisting up through 7 am before diminishing rapidly as high pressure built into the area. Snow was quite fluffy, but resulted in the highest snow depth of the season so far.
2/13/2011 7:00 AM 0.04 0.4 M 18.0 M A brief round of light snow crossed the region during the late evening hours as a warm front lifted north through the region. Snow ended just after midnight, leaving lowering clouds and some light fog the remainder of the night as temperatures warmed through the upper 20s.
2/14/2011 7:00 AM 0.11 T M 12.0 M What a nice warm day on Sunday, as strong southwest flow forced highs into the lower 40s, with readings overnight only slowly dipping through the mid 30s. An approaching cold front brought a band of rain showers through the area just after midnight, with a second axis of mixed precipitation (snow/sleet) crossing the area around 4-5am. Temperatures rapidly fell to below freezing by 7 am, leaving an icy mess on all roads as wet conditions rapidly froze, with lots of black ice around the Gaylord area this morning.
2/15/2011 7:00 AM T T M 12.0 M Cloudy skies and a few flurries through the morning hours on Monday quickly gave way to increasing sunshine through the afternoon as much drier air scoured the low stratus/stratocumulus deck. Gusty northwest winds and falling temperatures through the 20s made for a chilly day. Winds slackened into the evening and overnight as high pressure drifted overhead, allowing temperatures to bottom out in the single digits above zero.
2/16/2011 7:00 AM T T M 12.0 M A briefly sunny start to the day on Tuesday ended cloudy as clouds thickened through the day. A brief period of light snow pellets arrived around 9 pm, with clouds lowering thereafter as warmer air lifted into the region. A brief period of drizzle was also noted during the overnight hours, as temperatures nudged to around 34 degrees by observation time. Some light fog was also noted by 7am.

2/18/2011 7:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M 5.0 M Just a whole lot of melting over the past 24 hours as warm air flooded north ahead of low pressure tracking through the upper midwest. Areas of drizzle and fog were noted at times, especially into the evening, along with just a few light showers. A cold front blew through the area overnight, with stark clearing in its wake but gusty southwest winds developing.
2/19/2011 7:00 AM T 0.3 M 5.0 M In the wake of cold front passage Friday morning, plenty of sunshine made an appearance through the afternoon hours, but with very windy conditions developing. West to northwest winds gusted to near 50 mph at times. Clouds returned late in the day, with a few flurries developing by late evening, and some additional snow showers overnight as very gusty conditions continued.
2/20/2011 7:00 AM T T M 5.0 M A cloudy start to the day on Saturday, along with periodic flurries/light snow showers. However, increasing sunshine made an appearance through the afternoon as high pressure approached, with just plain clear/sunny skies by mid afternoon. Light winds and clear skies allowed lows to dip into the low teens for a time, however increasing mid level clouds kept lows from really bottoming out.
2/21/2011 7:00 AM 0.14 1.7 M 6.0 M Clouds thickened through the day on Sunday, with light to moderate snow breaking out into the early evening hours as a warm front lifted into southern lower Michigan. One band of briefly heavy fgen-driven snow crossed the area around 7 pm, tapering to some rare northeast flow lake effect snow showers/flurries overnight as drier air filtered into the region. Lows dipped into the single digits as cold air undercut the precipitation.
2/22/2011 7:00 AM T T M 6.0 M Clouds hung tough through the day on Monday, but lifted with time as drier air slowly bled into the area on gusty northeast winds. Some lower clouds returned overnight, but mainly all around Gaylord. However, periodic flurries were noted, along with some beautiful frost on all surfaces.
2/23/2011 7:00 AM T T M 6.0 M After a very sunny day on Tuesday, some unexpected low stratus returned overnight, along with a few flurries. Hoar frost was widespread as well by sunrise, with all surfaces coated in light ice.

3/1/2011 7:00 AM T T M 6.0 M The last day of February ended on a rather sunny note, especially through the early and mid afternoon hours, though some clouds and flurries also made an appearance. Clear skies overnight allowed lows to dip well into the single digits above zero.
3/2/2011 7:00 AM T 0.3 M 6.0 M After a very sunny and rather mild day on Tuesday, clouds thickened overnight as much colder air dumping into the area set off lake effect snow showers, as quite windy conditions continued. 4/4/2011 7:00 AM 0.39 1.1 M 2.0 M A messy storm system across the area on Sunday, as warm air flooding north drove the development of a band of snow, heavy at times through mid afternoon, with some thunder noted as well. 4/10/2011 7:00 AM 0.33 0.0 M 0.0 M Just a beautiful early spring day on Saturday with full sunshine, dewpoints into the middle 30s, and highs into the lower 60s! Clouds increased overnight as warm advection cranked up, with remnants of upstream severe convection congealing into a rather healthy MCS and crossing northern Michigan. While the worst of the storms went along the M-55 corridor (south of here), still got some much-needed rainfall, with rain continuing at observation time.
4/11/2011 7:00 AM 1.17 0.0 M 0.0 M Some excellent (albeit very heavy at times) rain over the past 24 hours. An initial round of rain/embedded thunderstorms exited the area through mid morning, leaving plenty of pesky low clouds in its wake. However, strong (986mb) low pressure crossing into western Lake Superior dragged a warm front through the area into early/mid afternoon, with temps soaring through the low 70s (with dewpoints into the lower 60s). Another round of thunderstorms with very heavy rain arrived around 7 pm, producing brief rainfall rates approaching 15 inches per hour, with several washouts noted around the local area. A final round pushed south of the area overnight, with low clouds and very windy conditions returning by observation time, as temperatures (which initially warmed through the mid/upper 60s overnight) fell back into the upper 40s.

A few showers developed just to the south around 5 am within an increasing moisture axis, but stayed south of this location.
