10/29/2010 6:45 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 45F and mostly clear at observation time. We reached 71F yesterday, the first time over 70 in 17 days. Couldn't call it an Indian Summer day, however, as we still have not had a frost. Moreover, the long range forecast predicts we won't reach even 60F in the weeks to come. Leaf color this weekend appears to be at its peak for the season.

11/9/2010 7:45 AM 0.38 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 When I reported yesterday morning, we had a mixture of rain and non-sticking snow. Around 8AM it turned to all snow: big, wet, heavy flakes that began to pile up. By noon we had about an inch of snow on the ground and then the sun came out and it all melted. 45F and sunny at observation time with a chilly, steady wind out of the NNW at 25MPH gusting to 35MPH.
11/10/2010 6:45 AM 0.01 M M M M A little light rain around 5AM. Cloudy and 51F at observation time. I would guesstimate that we have 80% of the leaves still on the trees, which is surprising to me considering all the wind we have had over the last few days. Wind this morning out of the N at 15MPH.
11/11/2010 6:45 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 43F and clear at observation time. Another windy day forecast with gusts to 25 MPH.

11/18/2010 6:45 AM 0.44 M M M M Rain was the tail end of the previous day's storm. And actually the bulk of it. Yesterday's high winds forced most of the trees to drop their leaves. 48F and clear at observation time.

12/23/2010 6:45 AM T T T T T Slight dusting of wind-blown, sand-like wind over night. Only traces are where it was caught in corners. 33F and partly cloudy at observation time. Wind chill at 21F as the brutal, tiring wind continues out of the NNW at 22 MPH, gusting to 36.
12/24/2010 7:45 AM T T T T T 31F and sunny at observtion time. Wind chill factor at 21F with the wind out of the NNW at 14MPH. A few light snow showers late yesterday morning and early afternoon. However, they stopped before the temperature fell below freezing, and all snow disappeared before nightfall. Overnight old man winter lightly salted the earth with snow, but now that the sun is out, all of that is disappearing as well.
12/25/2010 6:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 27F and clear at observation time. Wind chill factor is 19F with a breeze out of the NNW at 8MPH. Merry Christmas.
12/26/2010 6:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The calm before the storm? 30F and partly cloudy at observation time with a light breeze out of the NNE at 7 MPH. We are under a blizzard alert through Monday at 6PM. Predictions range from 11 to 24 inches of snow with NNE winds in the low to mid 30 MPH range and gusts to 50. Possibility of periods of rain and sleet tonight before returning to snow.
12/27/2010 7:45 AM 1.61 14.1 1.61 14.1 1.61 Snow began without wind yesterday at 10AM, and by noon was at full blizzard conditions. Because of the winds blowing the snow around, it is difficult to measure accurately. However, my average of several depth readings is 14.1 inches of new snow. My guage was overfull, so I upended it and scooped out the snow at the appropriate depth and melted it down to 1.61 inches. Temperature is 23F at observation time, with a wind chill factor of 6F. Winds steady out of the NW in the upper 20s, gusting to 50MPH. The snow is predicted to stop around noon with the wind continuing into tomorrow.
12/28/2010 8:45 AM 0.08 2.1 0.08 13.7 1.13 Snow stopped yesterday at noon, but the winds of up to 50 MPH continued throughout the night. 29F and sunny at observation time, and making it really pleasant: no wind. Accoring to WCBS Radio, this was the sixth worst blizzard in the New York area since readings of this sort were kept back in 1869.
12/29/2010 6:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 9.6 1.30 32F and partly cloudy at observation time. Wind chill at 24 with a NW wind at 10MPH. Difficult to determine depth of snow. Large sections of my back yard are totally bare, blown clean by the wind. To get today's measurement, I took five depth readings, threw out the deepest, and averaged the rest. Took a core measurement at the spot which represented that average.
12/30/2010 6:45 AM 0.00 0.0 M 9.1 1.21 17F and clear at observation time.
12/31/2010 6:45 AM 0.00 0.0 M 8.4 1.12 32F and clear with no wind at observation time. Forecast predicts daily highs through Sunday in the low 40s and showers on Sunday. Should help remove some of our snow.
1/1/2011 6:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 8.1 1.12 Yesterday's high was 42F, the first time we reached the 40s in 18 days. Never dropped below freezing last night. I would have expected more melting of snow than my measurements showed, only .3 inches. 39F and sunny at observation time, on the way to the upper 40s.
1/2/2011 11:15 AM 0.00 0.0 M 7.5 2.59 Maybe Cocorahs can explain this report. I did my measurements in the same way in the same area of my back yard, but one of the readings is way off from yesterday. The total depth of snow was reduced .6 inches. That seems right. But the melted core increased by 1.47 inches. How can that be? Light rain began to fall just after I took my measurements. 48F and cloudy at observation time. It's a puzzlement. Due to a severe cough and cold, measurements taken 4 1/2 hours later than normal.
1/3/2011 9:45 AM 0.07 0.0 0.00 0.0 M Entered this report at 10:15am, but for some reason, it didn't take. Core was frozen too hard for me to get a melted value.

1/5/2011 11:15 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 6.5 1.61 38F and sunny at observation time. Wind chill at 29F with wind out of the NWN at 16, gusting to 24 MPH.
1/6/2011 10:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 5.2 M 32F with hazy sunshine and no wind at observation time. We are under a winter storm watch for tomorrow. Some predictions calling for 4 to 8 inches of snow, others as little as 1 to 2. Core frozen too hard to get a melted measurement.
1/8/2011 7:45 AM 0.18 T T 3.8 M The past 24 hours has seen a mixture of short snow showers, sleet, and rain. It ended with light snow, leaving a dusting, but not enough to measure. Core is frozen solid, too hard to measure. One of the coldest mornings of the season, 18F and cloudy at observation time.
1/9/2011 11:15 AM 0.06 0.9 0.06 4.5 1.80 28F and sunny at observation time. Wind out of the WNW at 17 MPH gusting to 29, making the wind chill 19F. Our snow came between midnight and dawn this morning. We were on the edge of the storm that passed us to the east.
1/10/2011 9:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 4.5 1.61 26F and sunny at observation time. Wind chill at 15F with wind out of the NW at 19 and gusting to 25 MPH. We are under a winter storm watch for Tuesday night and all day Wednesday with snow totaling as much as 12 inches.
1/11/2011 7:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 3.5 1.12 18F and cloudy at observation time. No wind, no wind chill. Under a winter storm warning from tonight at 7pm to tomorrow at 6PM. Like the post-Christmas blizzard, this storm will intensify as two systems converge over our area: a killer storm heading up the east coast and a powerful storm from the west. However, unlike the previous storm, this will not have blizzard condition winds, only reaching 30 to 35 MPH. This storm is expected to deliver about the same amount of snow, ranging from 12 to 18 inches. The blizzard dumped 16.2 here over a two-day period. Also, unlike the blizzard, this forecast contains no qualifying words like "maybe" or "could." All forecasters seem definite in their predictions.
1/12/2011 10:15 AM 1.53 9.4 1.53 12.5 2.88 29F and cloudy at observation time. New snow is somewhat heavy and packy. Wind out of the WNW at 20, guesting to 30 MPH making the windchill 16F. Forecast calls for snow to return after dark and continue until after midnight with an additional 2 to 4 inches possible.
1/13/2011 9:45 AM 0.02 T 0.02 12.5 1.50 Two short blasts of blustery snow during the early afternoon yesterday yielded just a trace. 28F and sunny at observation time. Wind out of the NW at 17 to 25 MPH; wind chill 15F. Not much thawing expected today.
1/14/2011 8:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 10.6 1.27 Not much melting, if any, but a lot of settling. Yesterday's high was only 29F. Today it might reach 25F. 17F at observation time, and a slight breeze out of the NNW.

1/17/2011 7:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 7.0 M 21F and cloudy at observation time. A January thaw appears to be on the way. Snow starting tonight about midnight, changing to rain in mid-morning and raining through Wednesday with highs in the low 40s, lows in the upper 30s throughout the period.
1/18/2011 8:45 AM 0.41 T T 5.0 1.41 Started snowing shortly after midnight. By 3:30 had an inch of new snow. By observation time, only a trace remains as it began raining about 6AM. Have lost a good deal of old snow, and more should be leaving as the rain continues and temperatures rise into the mid 40s today. At observation time, 39F and raining lightly. Wind out of the ENE at 11, gusting to 22 MPH.
1/19/2011 10:15 AM 0.62 0.0 0.00 4.8 0.83 The January thaw continues for about another 12 hours as a light rain continues throughout the daylight hours and temperatures remain above freezing until around 10PM. 38F with drizzle at observaiton time. Wind out of the NW at 3MPH. Last night's low was 35F. Yesterday's high was 47F, the warmest recorded since last December 1. Didn't lose as much snow as I expected, considering the rain and warm temperatures. Snow core has retained much of the rain to increase its melted value. Tonight the Full Wolf Moon appears, named thus by the Indians as this is the month hungry wolves would gather in packs outside their villages and howl their discomfort.
1/20/2011 9:45 AM 0.04 0.0 0.00 3.7 0.61 Good news; bad news. The good news is the January thaw continues with above freezing temperatures for over 48 hours. 33F and sunny at observation time. Winds out of the WNW at 10 MPH.The bad news is that forecasters predict the temperature will drop later this afternoon and a 12-hour snow storm returns at 10PM, dropping up to five inches of new snow, giving us more than we had before the thaw.
1/21/2011 8:45 AM 0.31 1.1 0.31 4.8 2.00 What a bust! The 3 to 5 inches of new snow forecast turned out to be 1.1. 30F and partly sunny at observation time. Wind from the WNW at 11 MPH. We're in for a cold snap with forecasted high temperatures Saturday and Sunday in the low 20s and Monday in the mid teens. But then again, it was supposed to snow up to 5" last night.
1/22/2011 8:15 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 M M We're at the start of a three-day cold snap to be followed by another snow storm. 12F at observation time. Thankfully, no wind chill as the wind is out of the NW at 3MPH. Overnight low was 9F.

1/24/2011 8:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 M M Broke my wooden yardstick trying to get a snow depth measurement. The snow is hard as a cinder block. 12F and sunny at observation time. Wind chill at -2 with wind out of the N at 11 MPH. Last night's low temperature was 6 above, the coldest of the year so far. Off to get a metal ruler.
1/25/2011 8:45 AM T T T 4.1 1.72 A snow alert has just been posted for Southeast Long Island as a slow moving band of snow is entering our area. It could possibly dump three inches of snow in the new few hours. It has begun with a very light snow fall. 30F at observation time and snowing lightly with the wind from the West at 1 MPH. Yesterday was the coldest day in the area since January 19, 1994, when the low was 2 below. Yesterday's high was 17, the low was 1. Temperatures began to rise steadily this morning shortly after midnight.
1/26/2011 8:45 AM 0.07 0.8 0.07 4.3 1.32 It has begun. We are now under a winter storm warning and have received almost an inch of snow in the past hour. 32F at observation time with winds out of the NE at 6 MPH. Traditionally, our worst storms come out of the NE. Predictions call for a total of 8 inches of snow by 6AM tomorrow, with some freezing rain and sleet mixed in this afternoon. High today forecast for 36F.
1/27/2011 8:45 AM 1.23 4.5 1.23 8.5 1.87 Snow began yesterday at 8AM, and by 2PM we had 4 new inches. Then rain, freezing rain, and sleet fell until about 8pm, wiping out most of the morning accumulation. Then came snow in waves, snowing off and on as hard as I have ever seen it. But the waves were short lived and didn't last much past 2AM. End result, not as much snow as expected. But, enough already.
1/28/2011 8:15 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 8.4 M Sun trying, but not very successfully, to break through a heavy cloud cover. 28F at observation time.

Lost power at 4:33AM for about 10 seconds. Lights have been flickering for the past hour. Fortunately for us, when the storm was first tracked here it was 60 miles to our East. Then directly overhead. When it went through, the center was 80 miles to our West. We were spared.
