3/24/2011 7:00 AM 0.61 0.5 M 2.3 M After a wild Wednesday and Wednesday night, things are tranquil this morning. Cloudy, temperature at 29.7F. Light coating of a half inch of snow after yesterday's earlier snow, then sleet, then rain, then thunderstorm with hail, back to sleet and then finally the light coating. WOW, what a ride.

4/25/2011 7:00 AM 0.61 M M M M I hope that all of you out there had a great Easter weekend. Just a note about yesterday's rain shower; .57 hundredth of an inch of the total of .61 fell in 34 minutes, between 6:21PM and 6:55PM.

4/27/2011 7:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Rain began at 00:23 on the 27th and ended at 00:54 on the 27th. Just a short brief shower, but much more to the North of my location.
4/28/2011 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M It is now 7:01 AM and I just finished taking my measurements and although I received only .02 hundredth of an inch in the past 24 hours, a squall line of very intense rain is about to hit my location. It should start in the next 10 to 15 minutes or before 7:15 AM. I can already hear the thunder.
4/29/2011 7:00 AM 0.69 M M M M
4/30/2011 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Nothing more than a few sprinkles that amounted to .02 hundredth of an inch, but was gloomy and chilly for most of the whole day.

5/3/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It's been nearly 4 days since we have had any measurable rainfall here in the Lehigh Valley. However, looking to the west on the radars I can see the approach of a sluggish frontal boundary. Showers and Thunderstorms are moving to the Northeast along and around this frontal boundary. There has been a lot of training of these showers and storms and this training will continue causing Flash Flooding and Flooding of small streams and creeks since the ground is still wet from all the previous rainfall. Be careful out there.

5/24/2011 7:00 AM 1.09 M M M M Precipitation started at 8:17 PM with some very light rainfall from a Thunderstorm Cell that moved just to our North. This particular cell caused activation by the National Weather Service to put out a Tornado Warning just to my North. Here in my back yard, I noticed some rotation in the clouds to my North and West at 8:03 PM. Another cell came on behind this cell and it was this second cell that caused the majority of the rainfall that led to the total of 1.09” that fell between 8:17 PM and 9:34 PM. However, a total of .94” of the grand total of 1.09” fell in 29 minutes and the majority of this .94” falling in 24 minutes. It came down hard and fast, but there was very little wind with this storm in my area. My peak wind gust here was just 11 MPH. From the time the rain began at 8:17 PM and ended at 9:34 PM, the temperature only dropped 1.5 Degrees. It fell from 68.7 to 67.2 Degrees. At 10:00 PM after the storm had past, it became very muggy outside, with the Humidity at 91 % and the Dew Point at 66.2 Degrees. The temperature only reached 68.9 today and now the Weather Service along with Accu-Weather are calling for temperatures in the mid 80’s for Tuesday. Conditions should be right for some explosive growth of some fairly active Thunderstorms on Tuesday here in the area. So we shall keep an eye to the sky and the other on the radar and see what develops. Have a good day and a safe day.
5/25/2011 9:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Late reading today and a very late posting as I had some issues to take care of away from home today. Sorry for the lateness. It has been a great day today weather wise here in the Lehigh Valley. Now all we need is for the people in the Mid-West to get a break from all of the Tornadoes.

5/27/2011 7:00 AM 0.10 M M M M We here in the Lehigh Valley were spared by the heavy storms that passed through the area last night. Schuylkill County in particular was slammed last night with hail the size of baseballs in some areas. My parents in Cressona reported heavy rain and hail the size of golf balls.Maybe some one from that area has more detail. Today looks to be very active as well. Have a good day and a safe day.

6/1/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Hello there everybody. Well here we are on the 1st day of June and it looks like it is going to be another hot one here in the Lehigh Valley. May has come and gone and here are some statistics for my back yard. Total Precipitation for the month was 4.79". The most that fell in a 24 hour period was 1.59" which fell on the 15th of May and the most to fall in a 1 hour period was .94" which happened during a Severe Thunderstorm back on the 23rd of May. The high for the month was on May 31st when we recorded 95.3 here in my backyard at 3:23 PM and the low for the month was on the morning of the 6th of May when we reached a low of 34.3 at 6:04 AM which set a record for the date. I hope that all of you have a safe and wonderful month of June coming up.
6/2/2011 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M WOW. It has been a beautiful change in the weather. At 10:00 AM this morning with a temperature of 72* F and the humidity at 37% the difference in the Heat Index from now and at 2:00 PM on Tuesday (5/31/11) was 33 degrees. This is really refreshing after three days of temperatures in the 90's and high humidity. I hope everyone here in the Northeast is enjoying this change in the weather. I am. Have a great day.
6/3/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A great Spring day yesterday and today looks like another carbon copy. There is an enhanced fire danger today, so no outdoor burning is recommended. Reached a high of 76 degrees yesterday and the early morning low this morning was 49 degrees here in the backyard. Have a great day everyone.

6/6/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Hello there everyone. Today is June 6, the anniversary of D-Day 1944. Sixty-Seven years ago the Allies landed on the shores of Normandy to begin the march toward the freedom in Europe. Let us remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and remember to thank those who are still with us from that great conflict so long ago. I know I remembered to thank my Dad today for without him, I would not be here. God Bless and have a great day.

6/8/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It's a HOT one in the Lehigh Valley. Currently in the backyard it is 99.1 F with a dew point of 70.8 which translates to a Heat Index of 107 F. Since May 23rd we have recorded only .69 inches of rain and none since May 30th.
6/9/2011 6:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It sure was a HOT one yesterday in the backyard here in the Lehigh Valley. In my backyard under the porch my instruments measured a high of 100.2 at 16:03 with a dew point of 70.8 which translated to a Heat Index of 110.8 F. Now the question is will we surpass yesterday's high and will we get any relief with the thunderstorms that are predicted. I am looking for some rain, since we have not measured any since the 30th of May when we received .59 of an inch. Hope everyone has a good day today and be careful out there in your travels and with the heat. Follow heat precaution measures.
6/10/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Warm and muggy day on tap and maybe we will receive some rainfall tomorrow. Catch you later.
6/11/2011 7:00 AM 0.59 M M M M Thunderstorms are have been moving through the area since about 3:45 AM and so far we have received .59" of rain. 6/13/2011 5:30 AM 0.11 M M M M A brief shower at 10:21 PM last night accounted for the .11" of an inch of precipitation. Yesterday was relatively cool compared to earlier in the week when we had three days in the upper 90's along with high humidity. We reached 77.7 F in the backyard yesterday and we were dealt a cloudy sky for nearly the whole day except for about some partial sunshine totaling 30 to 45 minutes yesterday evening. Today looks like it is going to be quite nice with temps in the mid 70's and low humidity. Have a great day everyone.
6/14/2011 7:00 AM 0.36 M M M M A few showers came through last night which started at 10:33 PM and lasted until 1:47 AM. They deposited .36" of rain and then moved on. It looks as though today we will have a chance at some scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm with a high in the mid to upper 70's. That's all from my backyard, so take care out there everyone and have a great day.
6/15/2011 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Just a bit. .02" to be exact. It was a nice day for the most part. Skies were generally mostly cloudy with some partial sunshine filtering through from time to time. Have a great day everyone.
6/16/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a ho-hum day here in the backyard. We had a high of 87.1 F and a low of 53.2 F. There was no rainfall, however the National Weather Service and Accu-Weather are calling for a chance of some showers for today. That's all for today from the backyard. Be careful out there my friends and catch ya tomorrow.
6/17/2011 7:00 AM 0.21 M M M M Good day to everyone out there. Looks to be a warmer and more muggy day day than the past few days. Yesterday's high came in at 79.8 F here in the backyard and the low was 65.9 F. The .21" of rain fell from some showers that went through last night. They began here at 11:17 PM and ended at 2:37 AM. There were no heavy downpours as they went around us to the North and the South. That's it for today my fine weather friends. Have a great day and a safe day out there.
6/18/2011 7:00 AM 0.04 M M M M From 1:51 PM until 2:37 PM is when we received the .04" here in the backyard. Just a smidgen of rainfall to settle the dust as the old timers say. Looks like things are going to start heating up here in the backyard as Heat Indexes are supposed to approach 100* F or more starting Tuesday the 21st of June. It will be well into the 90's starting Sunday as far as the heat index goes. No wonder I like the winter. Have a good day everyone.

Sooner or later the pendulum will swing the other way and we will receive rainfall in this area. It's a matter of time. In the mean time, please be careful in all that you do and I'll see ya tomorrow.
6/23/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rainfall yesterday and none for the last five days. Maybe today.
6/24/2011 7:00 AM 2.47 M M M M Good morning everyone. Well, we finally got some much needed rainfall here in the back yard. However it came it a short period of time and most of it fell in a 75 minute window. OK now, here are the particulars: I received .53" of rain from the first cell that passed through my backyard between 10:27 PM and 11:10 PM. The second and heaviest amount of rain came through about an hour after the first cell from a line of cells that passed through the back yard. This second round of rain began here at 12:04 AM and lasted until 1:19 AM. During this second round I received 1.94" of rain. Nearly one and three-quarters (1.75") of this 1.94" fell in about 50 minutes. So, the grand total that fell was 2.47". Along with some stiff breezes, a little bit of pea sized hail and thunder and lightning...it was a wet and wild couple of hours. The hail that did fall was very little, pea size and lasted only 3 to 4 minutes. Have a great day everyone and be safe out there.

However, with the looks of the radar, we are going to get some more rainfall through-out the rest of the day. It has been a number of days since we last received any rainfall, so anything that we receive will be a welcome site. Have a great 4th of July tomorrow.
7/4/2011 7:00 AM 0.59 M M M M HAPPY 4th of JULY everyone. Hope you all have a safe and enjoyable day. My .59" of rain fell between the hours of 7:37 AM on the 3rd and 5:43 PM on the 3rd. Two quick hitting thunderstorms produced the most of the .59". First, .21" of rain fell between 9:00 and 10:00 AM and second, .28" fell between 5:00 and 6:00 PM. So, if you add it up you can see that .49" of the total of .59" fell from those two storms. That's it from my backyard. Have a great one.
7/5/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Hello there everyone. It is my sincere hope that all of you has a great 4th of July. It was a nice day here in the backyard and we experienced no rain. Today the 5th looks to be a great day with tomorrow, the 6th becoming more humid and the next chance of rain should come on Thursday the 7th, when a chance of thunderstorms should come through the area. Have a great day everyone.
7/6/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain to report here in the backyard. There is a chance of thunderstorms for today and tomorrow, with tomorrow looking to be the better chance. Temps are going up here in the Lehigh Valley. The high here in the backyard on the 5th was 93.9F and today may exceed that. Dew points are on the rise so the heat index is rising as well. Have a great day everyone. See ya tomorrow.

7/18/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Good morning everyone. I hope that all of you had a great weekend. This week looks to be a very Hot and Humid one, according to all accounts. Temperatures are to soar well into the 90's here in the Lehigh Valley with increasing high humidity levels and higher dew points. We have been told about this heat wave coming for a number of days now and it it appears now that it will be a reality. Just use common sense when you are outside in the heat and stay hydrated. Yesterday's high was 93.2*F with a low of 62.9*F here in the backyard. It has been nearly nine days since we recorded any precipitation, but they are calling for a descent chance of a thunderstorm or two sometime today into this evening. Have a great day everyone and be safe.
7/19/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Good morning everyone. I have hit ten straight days of no rain here in the backyard. And if that is not enough, we now have a very dangerous Heat Wave coming for here in the Lehigh Valley. Temperatures are going to steadily climb with each passing day as well as the Heat Index. We may approach record highs by the time Thursday and Friday come around. The initial forecast is telling us that we will see temperatures in the upper 90's and we may see 100* F. Along with this we should be seeing Heat Indexes approaching 105 to 110 on the worst of the days. So to all my fellow weather watchers out there, please exercise extreme caution during the upcoming days. Yesterday, here in the backyard I recorded a High of 96.4* F, which occurred at 1:47 PM and the low was 69.6* F at 6:11 AM. Have a great day everybody and be safe out there.
7/20/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Oh boy, the blast furnace is beginning to kick in. Yesterdays high was 98.2* F at 2:48 PM and the morning low of 73.9* F occurred at 6:03 AM. Once again there was no precipitation here in the backyard, so we are now at 11 straight days of no rain. The temperatures continue to climb, so be careful out there my friends.
7/21/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday's high was 96.4* F. Yesterday's low was 71.7* F. No rainfall for the 11th straight day. And the heat is only going to continue to build. What more can I say.

Between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM 3.54" inches of that grand total of rain fell. Between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM 1.91" of rain fell and then between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM another 1.63" of rain fell. There was not a lot of thunder and lightning and there was no hail in my backyard, but it came down in torrents. Many roads in the area were closed because of flash flooding. Rush hour in the area was a mess to say the least. A secondary line of storms weakened as it moved through the area between 5:45 PM and 6:35 PM and gave us an additional .19" of rain.

Dew Points continue to run in the upper 60's to low 70's creating very muggy conditions. I received 1.30" of rain and it fell from showers that for the most part continued to train over the area, for the better part of seven hours. There were no torrential downpours during the period. Rainfall rates during this time averaged around .17" of an inch. The greatest amount in any one hour period fell between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM when .23" fell here in the backyard. Flash flood watches have been posted for the area for today as the National Weather Service is expecting heavy rain once again for the area. So be careful out there and have a great day.

8/14/2011 7:00 AM 3.77 M M M M Good morning everyone. Quite a bit of rain over the past 12 hours. The rain began at 6:07 PM on the 13th. The break down for hourly rainfall amounts are as follows: On the 13th between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM .20" fell, between 8:00 and 9:00 .06" fell, between 9:00 and 10:00 .95" fell, between 10:00 and 11:00 .27" fell, and between 11:00 and Midnight 1.65" fell. On the 14th between Midnight and 1:00 AM .46" fell, between 1:00 and 2:00 .12" fell, between 4:00 and 5:00 .06" fell. Now, if I have done my math right, that comes out to 3.77" of rain between 6:07 PM on the 13th and 7:00 AM on the 14th. Looking at the radar and at the weather reports, it would appear that we are in for quite a bit more rain.

9/5/2011 7:00 AM 0.52 M M M M Good morning everyone! Wishing all of you a Happy and Safe Labor Day Weekend. Just think of it...we are now at the unofficial end of Summer, especially at the beaches here in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Days are getting shorter and have been since the end of June, but we hardly seem to notice with all of our Summer activities. Football season has started for the High Schools and Colleges...Pros start this Thursday night. We have been noticing a chill in the air at nights here in the Northeast and there has been snow in the Northern Rockies. Yes, Summer is on its way out and the beautiful colors of the Fall season are not that far away. Looks to be a rainy week here in my backyard. We already have a Flood Watch posted for this afternoon into tomorrow for storms and rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. Our ground is saturated from the recent rains from Hurricane Irene last weekend. Just last month alone, (August), we received 16.03" of rain and the rivers and streams are still running high from last week, so any appreciable rainfall could send them out of their banks. But, with all of that said, have yourself a great day and God Bless.
9/6/2011 7:00 AM 3.49 M M M M Hello everyone. Well, here we go again with another Tropical System moving through the Lehigh Valley here in Eastern Pennsylvania. We just finished with Irene and now we are dealing with the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee and how it is inter-acting with a stalled front. Since this event started at 23:47 on 9/4/2011 we have received a total of 4:01" of rain up to and including 07:00 on 9/6/2011. And as noted above we received 3.49" of that in the past 24 hours. The National Weather Service says we could see an additional 1.5" to 3.5" of rain until all things are said and done with, later in the week. The ground is so saturated that if we receive any sort of prolonged heavy rainfall or even moderate rainfall the flooding that we saw from Irene will come back quickly. If the the 1.5" to 3.5" of additional rain that is being called for is spread out over the next 36 to 48 hours, we should be OK. But, if it comes quickly or we get more than they think then we are going to have some real problems again. That's it for today. Be safe. Be careful. Be kind to others. Catch ya tomorrow.
9/7/2011 7:00 AM 3.04 M M M M Well, Good Morning to everyone out there who happens to read this post. Another soggy day here in my backyard, in the Lehigh Valley of Eastern Pennsylvania. This is the third day of this Event. It started out with a passage of a front which stalled and Tropical Lee's moisture jumped on the stalled boundary of that front. The result has been an almost continuous training of Thunder-Storms, Thunder-Showers and just regular rainfall. This event started with the first rain drops at 23:15 on 9/4/2011. At the end of the 1st day of reporting this event I had received .52" of rain. At the end of the 2nd day of reporting this event I received an additional 3.49" of rain. And as noted above at the end of this, the third day of reporting this event, I received an additional 3.04" of rain. To date I have received 7.05" of rain since the onset of this event. And according to the National Weather Service and Accu-Weather I could be looking at another 1.5 to 3 inches of rain in the next 24 hours. As an added note, with the 7.05" of rain from this event coupled with what I received from Hurricane Irene we stand at 13.60" of rain, having fallen in just 11 days. Well, that's it for today. Be careful out there everyone and be happy.

9/9/2011 7:00 AM 0.10 M M M M Well, "The Lee Event" is finally over here in the backyard...at least the precipitation portion of the event. We still have some minor flooding here in my backyard. However, what I have pales in comparison to what others have gotten along the Susquehanna, Delaware, Schuylkill and other river basins. If you got through this unscathed or with very little damage be glad, but remember to pray those who did not. Here in my backyard 7.80" of rain fell from this event. Have a great day everyone and be thankful for the things that we have...like our lives.

9/12/2011 7:00 AM 0.07 M M M M Good morning everyone. I do hope that everyone out there is doing well and is safe from harm. To all those who read my posts, I say thank you for taking the time and also to say how great it is to live in a Country as great as our "USA". God Bless all those who perished 10 years ago on September 11th, 2001 and to those who were injured and to the families of those who suffered or were killed. As far as the weather goes, there is a lot of dense fog out there this morning due to high ground level moisture and calm winds. Received a touch of rain in the past 24 hours from a shower that moved through before midnight. Today we are looking for temperatures in the high 70's in the backyard along with light winds and a 20% chance of a thunderstorm or shower or two. Until later, be careful my friends and God Bless.
9/13/2011 7:00 AM 0.39 M M M M Hello out there all you good Weather Buddies. The past 24 hours were rather ho-hum. Mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies persisted through-out the day; with the exception of the 16:30 to 17:15 time period. I was able to witness the growth of a thunderstorm from nothing to nearly complete dissipation during this time frame. I was watching one of my radar feeds when I saw a very small blip. I went out on the deck and could see the beginning of a thunder shower. I pulled up a chair and watched as it grew and grew to my North-Northwest with the sun shining on it's Southwestern periphery.Soon I heard the rumbling of thunder as it began to mature. The great thing about this storm was that during most of it's life it stayed nearly in one area; eventually covering no more than 7 to 10 miles. As it grew the winds began to pick up and then the hail shaft formed and then the rain came. The lightning show was very impressive even though it was late afternoon. It seemed as soon as it was reaching maturity that it began to move, but at that moment it began to die and die quickly. It was there and then it was gone; almost like a beautiful woman in a dream. HA HA! It really was something to watch. That's it for today my friends. Be careful out there and catch you all later.
9/14/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Good morning everyone. Well, we are getting one day closer to some really refreshing cooler weather here in the Lehigh Valley. Accu-Weather and the National Weather Service tells me that an early shot of some early Fall weather is in route to my backyard. It should arrive sometime Thursday and last through the weekend. Can't wait. I heard someone mention something the other day about what the outlooks are for the Winter Season that is coming up. I know I can wish and hope, but I will do just like everyone else. And that is to wait patiently or not until it comes. At any rate, today and tomorrow look like we will have some chances for some Thunderstorms and Showers. These will sweep out any humidity and warm temperatures and then open the weekend up for some great activities and great Football viewing weather, both High School and College here in the Mid Atlantic and Northeast. So dodge those rain drops over the next 24 to 36 hours and then get out and enjoy. Catch ya later. Be careful and God Bless.

9/22/2011 7:00 AM 0.36 M M M M We received .36" over the past 24 hours, but according to the National Weather Service and Accu-Weather, this will pale in comparison to what they are forecasting for my backyard here in the Lehigh Valley. The updated Flood Watch for our area which was put out at 15:08 tells us that we may be looking at the chance of receiving in excess of three inches of rainfall and possibly more. With the ground super-saturated it will not take much for flooding to start occurring once again. We will have to watch and see what transpires and then deal with the consequences. The best to all of you in flood prone areas. Be safe and be careful.

9/24/2011 7:00 AM 1.66 M M M M Good morning everyone. Did not receive as much as was forecasted here in the backyard, however many other areas did receive quite a bit. Of the 1.66" of rain that fell here, nearly .90" of that total fell in just under 1 hour between 18:17 and 19:10 last night.
