4 core samples: 2 in Birch-Aspen forest 14.5" depth, 4.20" liquid; 14.5" depth, 3.74" liquid. 1 sample on moderately shaded lawn 17" depth, 4.17" liquid; 1 sample on slightly shaded lawn 12.0" depth, 3.86" liquid. Unshaded lawn 0" depth. Lawn about 50% snow-covered, of which about 30% is moderately shaded, and 70% is slightly shaded. Birch-Aspen forest 100% snow covered except at the base of trees. In forest, birch and aspen up to 8" diameter at breast height (DBH) have about 1' clear space around base of trunk. On lawn, birch around 12" DBH have over 2' clear space at base. In birch-aspen forest, few spruce, each of which has no snow left under its branches. Tomorrow I will check snow depths and water content in spruce forest. Ten snow depth measurements on snowy areas of lawn: 16.5, 17, 18, 16.5, 14.5, 13.5 14, 13.5, 14, 10. The 10" depth is on the margin of snow-free lawn. Ten measurements in birch-aspen forest: 14.5, 15, 13, 14, 11, 13.5, 13, 14, 12.5, 15. No pattern seen to snow depths. All measurements taken between deciduous trees, most at least 3 yards apart, where the presence of trees would have had least effect on depth. |

The wet bulb and dew point are taken with HT-86 (cheapo from amazon.com) I don't know how accurate the readings are as today my NWS Nimbus registered 46 F for temperature, yet the HT-86 measured 62 F which seems to be be more accurate when the HT-86 DP and WB are taken into consideration for today.
