First major winter storm of the season hits hard...steady rains (0.44 in from 6:30am to 4:00) changed to sleet then heavy snow between 4 and 4:45pm..heavy snow fell from 4:45pm till midnite at rates of over an inch per hour...snow became lighter after midnight and ended around 2am...the snow was wet and heavy and stuck to everything. Numerous power outages and downed branches. Looked like a winter wonderland this morning! Snow began falling around 10am yesterday - more of a light fluffy variety that mostly melted on contact with the snowboard through 3pm. An estimated 1-inch of snow fell during this time as it accumulated on frozen surfaces-protected surfaces. Snow began accumulating after 3pm as the intensity increased and sun angle decreased. The arctic front blasted through at 6:15pm and was followed by a period of heavy snow. The temp dropped from 31deg at 6pm to 15 deg by 8pm. |

Abnormally dry weather continues in spite of the rain we received last week. Most of that rain ran-off due to the intenese rainfall rate and the remainder was lost to the 100+ degree heat that followed. Most lawns are brown and garden vegetables are becoming impacted. |

Drought conditions continue to worsen...unwatered lawns are brown and the garden continues to wilt in spite of watering...besides lack of rain...low dewpoints (low 40s) are also contributing to more rapid drying. |

Our immediate backyard misses 2 rounds of thunderstorms, again. The first round passed to our north by approx 25 miles around 10pm. The second round of storms with beneficial rains passed north and south of us within 20 miles at the time of the observation. Bone dry here!!

Much needed soaking rainfall occurred yesterday morning after 7am till around 10:30 am as several clusters of thunderstorms passed overhead...again localized rainfall...with areas just south of Bath (Haslett & E. Lansing) receiving less than 0.1 inches of rain from this event. More rain was incoming this morning after the 6:30 obs. |
