Yesterday there was little fog in our area, but there was a very low ceiling and almost everything had layers of beautiful hoarfrost. It was also windy during much of the storm. About 2 inches of snow was perched on the top perimeter of snow gauges this morning, and the gauge openings were reduced to about 2 inches diameter. I pushed all of that snow into the gauge and also took a snow core from my snowboard as an experiment. It was tough but I got most of the frozen layer on the board. The gauge in the open produced 0.28 inch water, and the other more sheltered gauge had 0.35 inch water. The snow core produced 0.39 inch of water content. |
