10/12/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 61F and cloudy at observation time. Rain is on the way. Because of clouds, I don't think I will be able to see it, but tonight the Hunter's Moon, and the smallest full moon of the year, appears. Not that the moon is any smaller, it is just further away.
10/13/2011 8:15 AM 0.19 M M M M Light sprinkles and occasional light rain starting at noon until 7pm yielding .04 inches of rain. Awakened at 2:48 this morning by a brilliant flash of lightning and loud thunder clap plus heavy rain. Two more impressive lightning and thunder events, then distant lightning and rolling thunder until 3:23. We got the bulk of our rain during this period. 61F and cloudy at reporting time.

10/15/2011 8:00 AM 0.10 M M M M Rain stopped yesterday morning just before noon. 61F and sunny with steady wind from the SW at 25 to 30MPH. Travelled the length of Long Island yesterday. Couldn't find any changing leaves. Geese, ducks, and swans still enjoying our pond. Did see two bluejays yesterday, the first I've seen since Hurricane Irene passed through. Still have not seen any cardinals since them. My bird feeder is getting no traffic.
10/16/2011 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 62F and sunny with wind from the SWS at 20 to 25 MPH. Yesterday's high was a sunny 65F. The steady wind made it definite jacket weather. Overnight low was 56F. Still almost no color changing of the leaves.
10/17/2011 9:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Very light rain beginning about midnight. Yesterday's high was 65F, overnight low was 54F. Very windy overnight; sometimes it sounded like a freight train passing by. The extended forecast shows no 70F readings expected for the rest of the month, but no frost either. Leaf color still almost nil. 60F and sunny at observation time.
10/18/2011 6:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 57F and partly cloudy at observation time. Yesterday's high was 67F and sunny all day.

10/26/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cloudy day on tap. Geese (about two dozen), ducks, (6), and swans (5) still occupy our pond. Not much leaf color change.

10/29/2011 9:00 AM 0.15 M M M M Started raining steadily at daybreak at an average of .05 inches an hour. Need to take my cover and tube out of the gauge as snow is expected later today; maybe as much as 2 inches, although more to the north and west. Our first frost forecast for Sunday night. 40F and raining at observation time.
10/30/2011 9:00 AM 0.90 M M M M 40F and sunny at observation time with a cold northeast wind blowing at 30 MPH. Began raining yesterday morning at 6:00 and continued steadily until 11:30pm when the rain turned to snow. Snowed for 60 minutes, but none stuck on the ground. Precipitation amount entered above is for 9AM to 12:30AM. Total from the storm was 1.05 inches. Low last night was 35F. Our first frost of the season expected tonight.
10/31/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 30F, calm and sunny at observation time. Hard frost last night. At 10pm, frost already formed on my car. Everything not in the sun this morning is white with thick frost. Our first of the season.

11/2/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 48F and sunny at observation time.
11/3/2011 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Last night was a clear and chilly night. Low was 33F. A bright half moon in the sky, and to the east, a shining Venus. 45F and sunny at observation time.
11/4/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another clear and chilly night. Low of 35F. The ducks have left our pond, but the five swan are still there and a dozen more geese have joined the flock to make a total of 48. I have seen geese formations in the sky heading south over the last two days, but our birds seem to be content to wait a while longer.
11/5/2011 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 41F and sunny at observation time. Had guests last night. Two feral tiger cats, maybe six months old, curled up on one of my patio chair cushions in a tight ball for warmth and slept the night away. Very cute. Clear night and 35F was the low.
11/6/2011 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Shaded ground still covered with frost at observation time. Overnight low was 30F. 38F and sunny at observation time. Geese and swans still occupy our pond. (Maybe they're waiting for the Wall Streeters to leave.) However, something new has been added. For the first time I saw a snipe wading on the shorline yesterday. And to me, it was an unusual snipe, because instead of the brown plumage with white stripes that I am used to, this bird was all one color, a dark, dull, black. Have to get out my bird book.
11/7/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 52F and sunny at observation time. Not so cold last night. Only dropped to 42F. Today's high slated for 57F; tomorrow 65F. Haven't had rain for eight days now, and three more expected. Geese on the pond have increased from 48 a week ago to 77 yesterday. Trees showing about 50% color now, mostly dull reds and oranges. And 25% have lost their leaves.
11/8/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M This is going to be a great day weatherwise. 62F and sunny at observation time. Not a cloud in the sky. Temperature expected to reach 67F. Need to clear up something I said last week. It's Jupiter not Venus in the night sky to the east of the moon.
11/9/2011 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 46F and dense "radiation" fog caused by cool air and warm ground and water surface temperatures. Fog started building at 8pm last night.
11/10/2011 8:30 AM 0.12 M M M M Raining and 63F at observation time; first rain we have received in eleven days. Leaf color appears to be at its peak now; rustic, not brilliant.

11/12/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 52F and sunny with winds gusting to 27 MPH at observation time. Last night's low was 40F. Yesterday's high reached 50F. Took a drive yesterday to enjoy the Fall leaves at their peak, although we lost of lot of them with wind gusts to 40 MPH.
11/13/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 51F and partly cloudy at observation time. High might reach 60F today, thanks to a southerly wind now gusting to 30 MPH.
11/14/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 58F and hazy at observation time. Wind gusts have died down with only a slight 11 MPH breeze from the SSW. The southerly wind kept the temperatures in the 50s overnight.
11/15/2011 6:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was another spectacular mid-November day. High temp was a sunny 63F. Overnight low was 53F. Cloudy and 57F at observation time. The five swans and about 50 geese have left the pond. Another 24 geese still enjoying this mild weather.
11/16/2011 7:00 AM 0.28 M M M M 56F and raining at observation time. A cold front will move into the area later this afternoon accompanied by more rain and thunder storms. A definte fall chill will be in the air tomorrow and moving forward.
11/17/2011 8:00 AM 0.35 M M M M 48F and cloudy at observation time. Had turkeys in my back yard yesterday for the first time since Hurricane Irene blew through. Fourteen of the big birds, including four males, paraded by in a single line from north to south and then back again. Impressive!
11/18/2011 9:00 AM 0.10 M M M M Rain and drizzle from 2pm to 7pm yesterday. Low last night was 37F. 40 and sunny at observation time. Wind from the WNW with gusts to 25 MPH making it feel much colder.

11/22/2011 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 49F and cloudy at observation time. Over two inches of rain forecast for the next 48 hours, including some thunder storms. Hopefully, it will end by Thanksgiving Parade time.
11/23/2011 9:00 AM 1.39 M M M M At observation time: cloudy at 46F, just one degree warmer than the overnight low. Rained most of the night. Stopped now but more expected this afternoon and tonight, although not the inch that was forecast yesterday. Thanksgiving Day should be nice.
11/24/2011 8:30 AM 0.06 M M M M Overnight low was 39F. 44F and a clear blue sunny sky at observation time. Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.
11/25/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 48F and sunny at observation time. Last night's low was 37F. When I took my daily walk around the pond yesterday, I saw that the last 48 of the 78 guees that lived there have finally left for the winter. (Or they ended up gracing Thanksgiving dinner tables.)
11/26/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We could come close to setting a high temperature record today, breaking 68f set in 1999.
11/27/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Missed yesterday's record high of 68F by 4 degrees. Overnight low was 41F. 54F and mostly sunny at observation time.
11/28/2011 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 59F and mostly cloudy at observation time. Overnight low was 54F. Amazing for this late in November. A flock of geese landed in our pond yesterday and are stll here. These are definitely not the same ones who left last week. Their colors are far more vibrant and they are more active.
11/29/2011 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 58F with total cloud cover at observation time. Overnight l9ow was 54F.

12/7/2011 8:15 AM 0.27 M M M M 51F at observation time. Rained lighly on and off yesterday and overnight, but has stopped for the time being. Snow has been dropped from our forecast.
12/8/2011 9:00 AM 0.90 M M M M I can't vouch for the accuracy of the rain measurement, because for about an hour last night (2 to 3PM) hard winds from the North were blowing a downpour horizontally and missing the gauge. One of the worst wind/rain storms I have ever experienced. Worse than Irene. Lights flickered, outside Christmas decorations blown over, some destroyed.
12/9/2011 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Hard frost last night. Low of 30F. 42F and partly cloudy at observation time.

Last night's low was 18F and yesterday's high only reach 31F, both conditions cased by a strong NW wind, which switched to SW overnight and will bring temperatures into the mid 40s today. Heard a lot of honking from the pond yesterday. I should have taken that for a sign, because this morning only 8 of the three dozen plus geese and one lonely swan of the five remain. The pond is now half frozen over. This is from the second contingent of waterfowl that landed two days after our summer flock of three dozen geese and three swans left in mid-November. Forecasters still not agreeing on whether or not we will have a white Christmas.
12/20/2011 9:00 AM T M M M M A few sprinkles about 5:00pm yesterday. 40F and cloudy at observation time. Overnight low was 35F. Warmer due to a SW wind.

Very definite circle around the moon, and we are have a 70% chance of rain tonight. May not ge able to see the Full Moon tonight, which goes under various names: worm, crow, crust, or sap. A strong SW west wind continues, gusting to over 35 mph. This far out on Long Island, the SW wind comes directly off the ocean waters, therefore we are not anywhere as near as warm as locations to our west. Last night's low was 41F. 48F and sunny at observtion time on its way to the high 50s.
3/9/2012 9:00 AM 0.04 M M M M It rained briefly, but hard, I guess about 3AM. Rain and wind woke me up, but I neglected to check the time. Overnight low was 34F. 38F and mostly cloudy at observation time with wind from the W at 15 MPH.

3/19/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overnight low was 46F. 52F and sunny at observation time, on it's way to the high 60s. Remarkable. Because of a 10 MPH southerly wind off fhe ocean, yeasterday's high only reached 56. Today's wind has switched to the SSW.
3/20/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overnight low was 52F. Foggy and 55F at observation time. Welcome to Spring, although it feels like Summer.

3/25/2012 9:00 AM 0.28 M M M M Rain began after midnight. We need it. The average rainfall for March is 4.73 inches. To date, we have only received 1.25. 46F the overnight low. 48F at observation time and raining lightly.
3/26/2012 9:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Precipitation was the end of yesterday's rain, which finished with light showers at 10AM. Overnight low was 43F. 50F and sunny at observation time with the high expected in the upper 50s. Freeze warning forecast for tonight with a low near 28F.
3/27/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Came close, but no frost. Low was 34F. Although the sky was clear, the wind shifted from N to NW and that probably saved us. Sunny again today, but only 36 at observation time. Wind from the NW at 22, gusting to 27 MPH.
3/28/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Slight frost last night at 30F. Sunny and 48F at observation time, on its way to the high 50s.

4/1/2012 9:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Precipitation is the remainder of Friday's storm, which ended yesterday morning at 10:00AM. Overnight low was 51F. Still 51F and partly cloudy with a slight breeze out of the SSE. More rain expected tonight.
4/2/2012 9:00 AM 0.21 M M M M Rain began yesterday at 4:30pm and lasted off-and-on until dawn today. Overnight low was 36F. 42F and sunny at observation time, on its way to the mid 50s.
4/3/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 47F and sunny at observation time with a strong NW wind blowing at 25MPh, gusting to 35MPH. Overnight low was 45. Supposed to reach the high 50s today.
4/4/2012 8:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overnight low was 40F, but warmed up quickly with the North wind diminishing from 25 MPH to 4 MPH. 50F and sunny at observation time on its way to the mid 60s today.
4/5/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The wind from the NNW is rearing its ugly head again. Yesterday, at only 4 MPH, it had little affect on our sunny weather, with a high temperature of 68F. However, after picking up last night to 23 MPH, the low dropped to 36F and today, again sunny, but only 42F at observation time and and expected high of 55F. But at least it's keeping a storm system from the west south of our area.
4/6/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The Full Pink Moon shines tonight. Almost had a frost last night at 34F, and could come close again tonight. 42F and sunny at observation time. High expected in the mid-50s today.
4/7/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another close call on a frost last night. Low registered on my thermometer was 35F under clear skies. 42F and sunny at observation time, supposedly going to the mid 50s today. Wind is still a strong factor, out of the NNW at 15 gusting to 25 MPH.
4/8/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M As the wind moves more from the west than from the north, it has gotten warmer. Last night's low was a not-too-bad 45F. 50F and sunny at observation time on the way to 60F. We need rain, though, and none in the ten-day forecast. Guess I'll be watering by hand this week. Happy Easter, everyone.
4/9/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The winds continue. Now blowing out of the W, we had the warmest night all month last night, 44F was the low. 51F and sunny at observation time with winds steady at 24MPH, gusting to over 40MPH. These severe wind conditions and the fact that we have only received .23 inches of rain this month and 2.03 last month, puts us under a dangerous fire alert. Possibility of some rain tomorrow and Wednesday.
4/10/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overnight low was 41F. 48F and partly cloudy at observation time on its way to 60F. 30% chance of light rain tonight, which probably won't help much in fighting the massive 20,000 acre brush fire just 15 miles north of here. We need rain. So far this year, we are more than 12 inches below normal.
4/11/2012 9:00 AM T M M M M Noticed two periods of light sprinkling, yesterday morning about 11am and yesterday afternoon at 3pm. Both short lived. The fire danger continues along with winds from the NNW at 16 MPH. Overnight low was 43F. 46F and sunny at observation time. 30% chance of rain this afternoon and tonight.
4/12/2012 9:00 AM 0.07 M M M M We were teased with some rain showers finally, last night starting at 10:00pm. Still cool as the NNW winds continue with gusts to 17 MPH. Overnight low was 41F. 47F at observation time on its way to the high 50s. More showers possible later today.
4/13/2012 9:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Very brief but heavy showers scattered throughout the area between 8pm and midnight. Overnight low was 41F. 51F and sunny at observation time, on its way to the 60s. Winds still blowing from the NNW, but only at 10 MPH.
4/14/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overnight low was 52F. 58F and sunny at observation time, on its way to the mid and upper 60s. Wind has shifted from out of the NNW to out of the W, cutting down on the chill factor.
4/15/2012 9:00 AM 0.03 M M M M A few showers passed through after midnight. Overnight low was 53F. 58F and sunny at observation time, on its way to the high 60s. Should reach the high 70s tomorrow.
4/16/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a beautiful day to take a walk in the woods; so I did. High of 70F and lots of sun. Overnight low was a mild 59F. 66F and sunny at observation time on it's way to the upper 70s. We are the benefactor of a SSW wind blowing at 10 MPH. We won't set the record temperatures that they will to our west, because our wind comes across the ocean instead of land. Hopefully rain later this week.
4/17/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Wind has switched back to the NNW gusting to over 20 mph and making for cooler temperatures. Last night's low was 45F after a sunny high of 79F. The sun continues with a reading of 66F at observation time on it's way to the mid-70s. Also continuing is our fire warning, but we could receive seriously saturating rain beginning on Sunday and lasting for three days. Hopefully. I drove through the area of last week's 2,000+ acre fire, and it is not a pretty sight.
4/18/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Extremely dry conditions foster another serious brush fire on Long Island yesterday, but it was quickly maintained due to the Suffolk fire departments and a diminishing wind. High temp yesterday: a sunny 80F. Overnight low was 46F. 54F at observation time on its way to the low 60s today. Wind from the South, which on this end of Long Island, makes us cooler as it blows directly over the ocean. 60% chance of much needed rain later today. Soaking rains forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
4/19/2012 9:00 AM T M M M M Sprinkles throughout the late afternoon and early evening last night. Overnight low was 49F. 53F and sunny at observation time, on its way to the mid 60s. Wind from the SSW at 10MPH. The probability of rain Saturday, Sunday, and Monday has dropped from 70 to 50%, but hopefully we'll still get a good soak. Fire danger alert still in affect.
4/20/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overnight low was 55F. 61F and sunny at observation time. Supposed to reach the high 60s today. Although the weather forecasters have been hedging their bets, still hopeful of a soaking rain Sunday and Monday.
4/21/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A soaking rain is scheduled to start around 4AM and last up to 48 hours. Hopefully. 53F the overnight low. 55F and cloudy at observation time on its way to the mid-60s.
4/22/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M According to the Weather Channel, it is supposed to be raining here now. It's not. According to TV reports, it was to have begun raining at 4AM. It didn't. Originally, what was to have been a soaker today, tomorrow, and Tuesday is so far a bust. In fact, tomorrow, the probability of precipitation has dropped from 100 to 50%. Alas and alak.
4/23/2012 9:00 AM 2.74 M M M M If memory serves me right, and it may not, I think this is the largest amount of rain I have ever recorded in the 8 years I have been filing these reports. Rain began yesterday around 11AM and quit sometime after midnight. Last night's low was 44F. 52F and cloudy with wind from the south at 11 mph, gusting to 29 at observation time.
4/24/2012 9:00 AM T M M M M Received a few scattered sprinkles throughout the day. Overnight low was 43F. 48F and partly cloudy at observation time. Chilly wind blowing across the ocean from the SW at 20 MPH gusting to 30.
4/25/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Overnight low was 43F. 48F and sunny at observation time. Breeze out of the SSW at 15 MPH.
4/26/2012 9:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Short lived (less than five minutes), heavy sun shower last night at 7:05, followed by two distinctive rainbows, one to the south, the other to the east. Overnight low was 43F. 48F and mostly cloudy at observation time.
4/27/2012 9:00 AM 0.03 M M M M A steady, light rain began at 3pm yesterday and lasted until midnight. Overnight low was 36F. 42F at observation time with a strong wind from the W gusting to 35 MPH.
4/28/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Suffolk County was under a freeze warning last night, but I only recorded a low of 36F. 44F and mostly sunny at observation time. 50% chance of showers tonight.

4/30/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We were under a freeze warning last night, but never came close with a low of 48F. 52F and sunny at observation time.
5/1/2012 9:00 AM 0.17 M M M M Started raining after midnight. Still raining and 53F at observation time. Overnight low was 48F.
5/2/2012 9:00 AM 0.97 M M M M Moderate rain continued from yesterday's observation time of 9AM until 3PM. Then became partly sunny. Overnight low was 50F. 50F at observation time and mostly cloudy.

5/5/2012 9:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Rained sometime overnight. 56F and cloudy at observation time.
5/6/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Never got to see the "Super Moon" as it was heavily overcast here all day and night yesterday. 48F was the overnight low. 54F and still cloudy at observation time.
5/7/2012 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The sky cleared off yesterday afternoon and remained clear so I got to see the Super Moon. It definitely appeared much brighter than normal, but to my eye it seemed to give off less light. Normally, a fully moon creates deep shadows on my back lawn. This one didn't.
