Burrrrr Temp 18 with clear sky. Rain from 7:00-11:00 = .4". Snow in guage from 11:00am-7:00 am =.4". I measured the snow on the snowboard at 4:15 at which time the snow was pretty much over and wind really begining to blow. That measured .42 inches. This morning the snowboard is totally covered with drifting snow. I also measured the ground at 4:15 pm and most places registered about 3". Some spots were a little more but overall average was 3". This morning due to drifting ground is from 0 to maybe 10 inches. I am going with the measurement from the end of snowfall. The ending time of 4:15 is a arbitrary couldn't tell if it was blowing or snowing but I wanted to measure while still light. |

Pebbly "rain" began at abt 11:15 am. Ice on branches never measured more than 1/8". East windows covered with ice by 11:30, no or little ice in other directions. Freezing rain ended by 1:00 pm. We sure are having goofy weather. It is currently 53 with bar of 29.62. Sort of April like. I even have a few crocus leaves up! Lightning & then thunder at 10:00 pm followed by rain at abt 10:10. Well, we sure had 24 hours of weather. Light rain until abt 9:15 when it turned to snow. Snow off and on until abt 3:30. Drifting in the country to near whiteout conditions around 3:30. Guage had abt 1/3" of ice on the bottem so I think that got all of the precip. Snowboard had a layer of ice on the bottem which stayed on the board. Ground snow was very dry and difficult to pick up so I doubt I picked up everything. That accounts for the variation between snow depth and melted core. Thank goodness for the weighing method of measuring melted snow! |

-6º snow on the ground isn't going anywhere. Some of the ice from Wed still on the trees makes sparkles in the sun. The 3.39" of January rain way more than any since I have begun reporting. Next close was last year with 1.77". Good that much was rain on unfrozen ground. This is the anniversary of the begining of our big February blizzard of 2011. |

Snow going from 3" to 2" has to be due to compaction. There has been no real drifting and the temps were not warm enough to melt. Still very dry and difficult to pick up so the melted core is not as accurate as when the snow is wet. |

There was probably more ice/snow on the outside than on the inside. Depth in inches is just a guess. There is about a 1/4" layer of ice under the snow and the wind is blowing so the surface powdery snow is drifting. My measurements ranged from .5" to 1", but there were more at the .5 measurement. The weight method of measuring snow sure beats melting etc. I was watching for the snow to start so I know it began at 9:15 - a few scattered flakes a few minutes earlier. Snow depth ranged from 2 to 4" with most measurements being 3. There was a lot of wind, but not really a lot of drifts where we usually get them. At obs time, I couldn't tell if it was blowing snow or falling snow. Very light whatever it was. |

I cannot account for the big difference between guage & snowboard. Snow depth ranged from 1" to over 3" in spite of somewhat less wind than some other storms. Had a problem with my snowboard - the snowplow driver covered it with 2 feet of snow! THe 1 inch is an estimate. The difference between the guage & sb is the 1/8 inch of ice in the bottem of the guage and the ice on the sb. From about 4:00 until 10:30pm a fine misty snow fell which may have affected the amount of snow. New snow on the ground is 5" which is probably more accurate than the 3.8" on the snowboard. Rain began 5:45 pm and at 9:30 I had .35 in the guage with mist the last .05" came after 9:30. Very cloudy, but not raining now. Total for month 2.97" Lots of places had that much in one little shower. Here we have had a lot of drizzle. That was almost an inch below 5 year average, but April was 5" above 5 year average so I guess we are ahead for the year. |

As reported yesterday, a storm approached at around 7:00. WInds hit at 7:15 and rain a few minutes lated. Sound & light, but only .22" of rain.
