12/23/2012 7:00 AM T T T T T HIGH - 34 / LOW - 29 Snow Flurries and a Light Snow Shower led to a trace of precipitation a very light coating of snow which caused the ground to look white, but you could still see plenty of grass.
12/24/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M HIGH - 31 / Low - 19 A mostly clear day with some passing clouds, but no precipitation this day. We are looking ahead this Christmas Eve here in the Lehigh Valley for the arrival of Santa Claus. He should be able to get around well in his sleigh as we are expecting some snow that should start late in the day and last into the night. Were looking for 1 to 3 inches, so it looks like we may get our White Christmas. And from me to all of you, may I wish you a Very Merry Christmas and be careful out there in your travels. God Bless.

12/27/2012 7:00 AM 0.67 2.1 M 1.7 M HIGH - 34 / LOW - 29 Snow began falling very lightly around 11:45 AM. It began to accumulate rather quickly and by 3:00 PM we had 2.1" and then it changed over to sleet and freezing rain. All frozen precipitation ended by roughly 6:00 PM when it changed over to all rain.
12/28/2012 7:00 AM T M M 1.1 M HIGH 35 / LOW 30 Mostly Sunny day with very breezy conditions. Wind speeds were 15 to 25 MPH with gusts to 37 MPH. Was very cold last night walking the dog with the cold winds.
12/29/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M HIGH 36 / LOW 21 A rather chilly day with breezy conditions with winds around 10 MPH. Sun was abundant throughout yesterday except for the last hour as clouds were on the increase coming in from the Southwest towards sunset. Forecast is for a tease of snow for today as the forecasters are calling for a light accumulation of snow in the 2 to 4 inch range. We shall see. Have a great day. Maybe someday we will see one of those old-fashioned snowstorms that deposits 2 feet or more.

12/31/2012 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 2.8 M HIGH 35 / LOW 23 An uneventful day after the previous days snowfall. There was no precipitation, but the winds were very strong from the Northwest averaging 25 MPH for a time during the early afternoon with gusts in the mid 40's. It was a very blustery day.
1/1/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 1.9 M HIGH 37 / LOW 25 A mostly fair morning with seasonal temperatures and light winds. Clouds began to move in around noon time but no precipitation. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
1/2/2013 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 1.6 M HIGH 39 / LOW 19 For the most part it was an overcast day with seasonal temperatures. There were some very light snow flurries around from time to time, but it was not enough to measure or show up on the cars or roads. All in all the 1st day of the New Year was uneventful. We celebrated our daughters birthday with family and watched College Football. May all of you out there have a great year ahead and be careful in all that you do.
1/3/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 1.1 M HIGH 29 / LOW 14 A cold breezy day with mostly fair skies. There were some clouds from late morning through early afternoon, but no precipitation.
1/4/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.8 M HIGH 31 / LOW 16 A fair weather day with little to no clouds throughout the daylight hours. Light breezy conditions prevailed through the day which made the temperatures seem colder than they were. This cold non-precipitation weather continues for another day and there are no storms in site. We are slowly loosing our snow cover as little as it was to begin with. Have a great day everyone.
1/5/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.5 M HIGH 37 / LOW 25 Mostly fair skies greeted us after some overcast skies in the morning. Wind were moderate around 15 MPH with some gusts around 25 MPH.
1/6/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M HIGH 40 / LOW 27 The day was mostly fair with light and variable winds in the 5 to 10 MPH range. Snow cover has been reduced to an inch to an inch and a half in areas where the sun does not shine because of the shadow effect from homes, spruce trees and the like. In areas where the sun shines unobstructed the snow cover is mostly gone. So I am saying that the snow cover at this time is a trace.
1/7/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M HIGH 43 / LOW 28 A very tranquil winter day here in the backyard with above normal temperatures and fair skies. Winds were light and variable throughout the day. Still some snow lingering around on the ground in the shaded areas, but that's it for any snow cover. Have a good one out there everybody and enjoy the National Championship Game tonight. GO IRISH.
1/8/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M HIGH 45 / LOW 18 Well, the Ho-Hum weather pattern continues here in the back yard as temperatures continue to run above normal. Winds yesterday were in the 5 to 10 MPH range and skies were mainly fair through-out most of the day. As noted temps did drop like a rock after the sun went down, but that was it for the excitement. The Irish lost the BCS Championship. BUMMER. Oh, one more thing. I am saying that the cold air and winter is going to return around the 16th or 17th of next week. There may be a snowstorm on the horizon. There continues to be some snow in areas where the sun does not shine during the day, but that is beginning to erode now that temps. are above normal.
1/9/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M HIGH 46 / LOW 18 Another tranquil day here in the backyard with above normal temperatures once again. Skies were a bit overcast in the morning and then cleared for the most part later in the day. Gosh this is one boring winter so far.
1/10/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 43 / LOW 22 One more time we had a ho-hum winter day here in the back yard. If this keeps up, this will go down as one of the most boring Winters in the history of man. The day was overcast for the most part with some fog and mist from time to time and we also had a few sprinkles. Wind were variable at 5 to 10 MPH. See ya tomorrow.
1/11/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 48 / LOW 30 Another mild winter day here in the backyard. Skies were mostly fair through-out the day with the winds between 5 and 10 MPH primarily out of the North and Northwest.
1/12/2013 7:00 AM 0.51 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 45 / LOW 30 Another day of winter having above normal temperatures, but we did finally get some precipitation. Unfortunately it was in the form of rain. Where are you SNOW. Winds were primarily out of the East and Southeast at 3 to 6 miles per hour. As I said at the beginning of this past week, cold weather was going to return sometime around the 16th. Well, it looks like that is going to happen. All we need now is for the NAO to go negative and the PNA to go positive and maybe we can get an old-fashioned snowstorm to form and roar up the coast with a big time snowstorm. We shall see.
1/13/2013 7:00 AM 0.02 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 48 / LOW 39 We had a cloudy day with fog and mist throughout the day. We had a slight bit of precipitation in the very early morning hours amounting to .02 of an inch. Winds were generally calm for the day with the exception of some light breezes in the mid to late afternoon hours which were recorded at 3 to 5 MPH mainly from the North and Northeast.
1/14/2013 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 49 / LOW 43 Well this is just getting down right depressing. This winter continues it's run of above normal temperatures and a lack of snow. Where are the days of snow up as high as picket fences and cold waves that last for a long time. I like to watch as storms develop and unleash their power. But with the warming of the earth the good old winters of the past appear to be a thing of the past; at least for now. Yesterday was a foggy and misty day with winds primarily from the South and Southeast at 3 to 5 MPH.
1/15/2013 7:00 AM 0.11 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 55 / LOW 45 And one more time we have a ho-hum winter day here in the backyard; if you can call this winter. Above normal temperatures, light and variable winds at 5 to 10 MPH with a little light wind falling late in the day with fog and mist throughout the day is the story for this day. Have a good day.
1/16/2013 7:00 AM 0.71 1.1 M 1.1 M HIGH 47 / LOW 31 Well, we have received some Winter Weather for the first time in a long time. During the overnight hours for the most part, we received 1.1 inches of a mixture of snow and sleet. Sidewalks and secondary roads are bad this morning, but the major roads are in really good shape. Winds were mostly out of the Northeast at 7 MPH during the past 24 hours. Sometime in the future we may get one of those old-fashioned snowstorms, but not this day. Just another one of those 'SLOP" Storms. Be careful out there in your travels and I'll see ya tomorrow.
1/17/2013 7:00 AM 0.04 0.0 M 0.5 M HIGH 37 / LOW 30 A rather dreary day here in the backyard. Not much of a temperature fluctuation during the day. It was cloudy throughout with some very light freezing rain early in the day and then fog and mist for the remainder. Winds were generally out of the Southwest and West at an average of 5 MPH. Have a great day everyone and be careful out there.
1/18/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 41 / LOW 32 Winds for the day pretty much were at 7 to 10 MPH starting out at SW to W and ultimately ending up being from the NW. Although it was a bit misty and foggy very early in the day, it cleared up to be a fair day with lowering humidity. Colder temperatures are on the way with a bit of snow shower activity moving in on Saturday night or Sunday. Coldest weather of the season moving in for next week. It would be nice if we had a storm to come along and take advantage of the cold air and give us a whopper of a snowstorm; say 2 to 3 feet. Have a great day everyone.
1/19/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 36 / LOW 21 A fair but cold and blustery day here in the back yard. Winds were generally from the West and Southwest at 15 MPH with gusts up to 26 MPH. The wind chill at times went down into the low teens which made it feel rather chilly on exposed skin. There were some clouds from time to time, but for the most part it was a nice day. After a slight warm-up this weekend the bottom is going to drop out of the thermometer next week as day time highs will be in the teens and overnight lows could approach single digits. Throw another log on the fire Ethel.
1/20/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 49 / LOW 23 A mild day was on tap for the day as temperatures once again soared above normal with the High approaching 50 degrees. Skies were fair throughout and winds were relatively light from the Southwest at 7 to 10 MPH. This coming week is going to unfold with the coldest outbreak of the winter season as temperatures may not get out of the high teens for a couple of days and low should drop to the single digits. Any winds are only going to drive home the fact that it is awfully cold outside. There is a chance of some light snow Monday night into Tuesday and we are looking at the possibility of something for significant towards Friday or Saturday. Have a great day and enjoy the NFC and AFC Championships.
1/21/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 52 / LOW 26 A very mild day here in the backyard as temperatures soared to 52 degrees. During the daylight hours the winds kicked up to 15 to 20 MPH and some gusts to 35 MPH. Skies were clear. Some snow showers are in the forecast for Monday and the Mets are saying that a storm may bring some snow towards the end of the weeek. We'll see. Have a good day.
1/22/2013 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 35 / LOW 14 The day consisted primarily of Overcast to Mostly Cloudy conditions with some occasional very light snow flurries. Winds throughout the day were relatively light at 5 MPH. However, at about 11:00 PM last night the front came through and the winds started to pick up. Winds averaged 16 MPH overnight and gusted to 30 to 35 MPH all night. Temperatures dropped like a rock after midnight. The temperature was 24 degrees at midnight and by 7:00 AM we were down to 14 degrees and the wind chill is at -1 at 7:00 AM this morning. Gonna be a cold one and a snowstorm is on the way for Friday. It is going to be a cold storm with high ratio snow totals around 20:1 at least. Bring it on.
1/23/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 19 / LOW 5 WOW! What a change in the weather we have here in the backyard. It has taken 33 days for Winter to finally arrive as we now have some good old wholesome cold winter weather. As you can see, we never climbed out of the teens and at one point at 05:15, we recorded a wind chill of -7 here in the backyard. Skies were generally clear throughout the day, with some occasional high clouds. Indications are that the cold will persist through the weekend with a chance for a 1 or 2 inch snowfall on Friday. Well Wupp-Di-Doo.
1/24/2013 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 19 / LOW 6 Another crisp and cold day here in the backyard as you can see by the temps. Sky conditions were generally clear with the exception of the mid-afternoon hours when some cloudiness moved in and we had a few snow flurries flying around. Winds were in the calm to 7 MPH range for most of the day except from late morning through early evening when winds increased to 15 MPH with gusts to 24 MPH. As of now it looks as though the snow we were looking at for Friday is going to go to the south of us. Looks like another year of being ripped off on the snow totals.
1/25/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 22 / LOW 7 Another cold day here in the backyard, but still no snow; what a waste of cold air. Skies were generally partly cloudy during the daylight hours and during that time winds were gusting at 28 MPH. Otherwise during the early morning and overnight hours, skies were generally fair and winds were light at less than 6 MPH. The forecast is calling for a dusting to maybe an inch of snow later today and into tonight.
1/26/2013 7:00 AM 0.05 1.1 M 1.1 M HIGH 20.7 / LOW 10.3 Well, well, well; what do you know. We got some snow...a whopping 1.1 inch. Where are we going to go with all of this. At any rate it was another cold day here in the backyard. Clouds began to move in around 11:00 AM yesterday and Lt. Snow began falling around 3:15 PM. The snowfall was over by 8:45 PM and the skies remained cloudy throughout the night. Temperatures are going to slowly begin to moderate over the next few days and we may see 50 degrees by Wednesday of next week. But, before that another wintry mess is on the way. We are looking at a chance of snow, sleet, freezing rain and then all rain. Precipitation should move in sometime during the day on Monday and continue into Monday night.
1/27/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.7 M HIGH 26.3 / LOW 4.9 After an early morning low of 4.9* F and some overcast skies, the day cleared up nicely and we had fair conditions throughout the rest of the day with near seasonal temperatures. 1/28/2013 7:00 AM T T M T M HIGH 34.5 / LOW 7.8 A fair weather day was on tap for all of yesterday as temperatures rose above freezing for the first time since Monday. Winds were light throughout the day as they were in the 4 to 7 MPH range when they did blow. Clouds began to move in around mid-night last night in advance of our next weather system and by 7:00 AM this morning some Lt. Snow had begun to fall. Only a trace of snow had fallen by 7:00 AM and it looks as though we will receive just an inch before it turns over to sleet and freezing rain. Have a great day everyone.
1/29/2013 7:00 AM 0.19 0.6 M 0.3 M HIGH 35.2 / LOW 17.6 A very dreary day was on tape yesterday as we ran the gauntlet of weather. It was cloudy all day as we started out with snow at 7:00 AM, changed over to sleet at 8:15 AM, freezing rain at 9:00 AM and then to all rain by 12:15 PM. Obviously sky conditions were cloudy all day, however there were some peaks of the moon as clouds were passing by at 22:30 last night. Warmer weather is on the way as we are looking for temps in the upper 40's on Tuesday and mid to upper 50's 0n Wednesday before another cold spell comes back to the backyard. Have a great day everyone.
1/30/2013 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 48 / LOW 34 A cloudy day with fog and mist from time to time entertained us this day along with clouds and winds that would vary from 3 to 6 miles per hour. It was just a ho-hum day.

Some light rain fell around mid afternoon but that was on the light side as it only amounted to .13 inch. The main rain commenced 19:35 and the heaviest rain fell over a three hour period during the early morning hours. There was a rumble of thunder around 01:06 during one of the heavier bursts of rain. Winds were relatively light at 6 MPH or less through-out most of the day but after the frontal passage at 05:17 the winds kicked up to a steady 20 MPH with gusts approaching 40 MPH. At the 07:00 reporting hour skies were beginning to clear as some really nice blue skies were showing up amongst the breaking clouds. Winds were blowing at a steady 23 MPH and gusting at 41 MPH. Temperatures for this day will fall all day from a high of 45 at 07:00 AM to the upper 30's by sunset. Have a great day everyone and be careful of flooded roadways.
2/1/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 57.2 / LOW 24.1 Yesterday was a changeable day in more ways than one. Clouds were passing by all day long and blue sky's kept peaking in and out. The winds were very strong all day long as they were sustained for most of the day at 23 MPH and were gusting into the 40's quite often. The peak wind gust of 51 MPH came around 09:50. The temperature dropped all day long and the high temperature of 57.2 came at midnight and then began to drop and kept dropping until it reached its low of the day of 24.1 this morning.

Winds were generally from the West Northwest at 10 MPH with gusts approaching 30 MPH. There were clouds around during the daylight hours, however skies cleared as night approached. Have a great day everyone and according to Phil, we will have an early Spring. But then we have not had much of a winter here in the backyard either. So we shall see if Phil is right with what he had to say at 7:28 this morning. Hey, Jim Cantore was there so maybe Phil knows something.
2/3/2013 7:00 AM 0.16 1.6 M 1.6 M HIGH 23.8 / LOW 11.4 The day started out with fair skies, but by Noon time clouds had moved in. Some light snow began a little after 15:30 and was off and on throughout the evening and into the very early morning hours. Snow was a bit moderate from about 21:30 until 00:30. Winds were light at around 6 MPH from the West and then gusted to 20 to 25 MPH from late morning into early afternoon, but then became mostly calm from about 15:00 on into the overnight hours. There were a lot snow needles mixed in with the snowfall last night. It's been a while since I seen some much snow needle effect in a snowfall. Well, I guess that is all for today. Not only is it Super Bowl Sunday, but first and foremost it is my Birthday. Happy Birthday to me.
2/4/2013 7:00 AM T T M 1.2 M HIGH 27.7 / LOW 13.7 We had a rather changeable day here in the backyard. We had fair skies at times and cloudy skies at other times. We saw some very Lt. Winds were light and variable for most of the day, however winds picked up to an average of 13 MPH around 22:00 with gusts to 22 MPH throughout the overnight hours. Seeing how it was my birthday, it was a very quiet and tranquil day. Have a good one everybody.
2/5/2013 7:00 AM 0.01 0.3 M 1.3 M HIGH 29.3 / LOW 18.7 For the most part yesterday was a mostly cloudy to overcast day. As has been the case for most of this winter, winds were light and variable during the overnight hours, but once the sun came up the winds began to increase and were sustained at around 14 MPH from the West and gusted as high as 25 MPH. Some very light snow came through around 05:00 today and lasted about 40 minutes causing a light dusting. There is a chance for another round of light snow tonight which may amount to an inch. The winter with teases of snow continues. What a waste of cold air. We are running out of time in this winter season for a good old-fashioned Snowstorm/Nor'Easter. It has been quite a while since we had a knock down of a Snowstorm here in the backyard. I am going into snow shock. Snowstorms; come out come out where ever you are. OK, I'll get off my pulpit now. Have a great day everybody and be safe out there.
2/6/2013 7:00 AM T T M 0.9 M HIGH 31.9 / LOW 20.6 A tranquil winter day was on tap for yesterday. Clouds moved in and out, but the skies were generally cloudy throughout the day and night. 2/7/2013 7:00 AM T T M 0.5 M HIGH 38.9 / LOW 17.7 Yesterday was a tranquil Winter day. The day started out overcast, became partly cloudy by mid-day and was fair by sunset. Some light snow flurry activity was observed around 11:00 AM, but only lasted 15 minutes. Winds were generally light at 6 MPH except for a few hours of 15 MPH winds during the mid-day hours. Winds were generally from out of the West and Northwest. Looks as though we have quite a slop storm coming with snow, sleet and freezing rain. Precipitation should begin by daybreak on Friday and last until Saturday morning. Best of wishes to everyone for a great day.
2/8/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M HIGH 34.2 / LOW 18.5 THE CALM B-4 THE STORM. Yesterday was a tranquil Winter day here in the backyard. The day started out with fair skies and calm winds. By mid morning some high cirrus clouds began to move in and winds picked up to 5 MPH from the East. As the afternoon wore on clouds began to lower and thicken a bit as winds continued from the East but increased to 8 MPH. And by the time the overnight hours rolled in the winds picked up to an average of 10 MPH from the East-Northeast under cloudy skies. The barometer began dropping after 11:00 AM yesterday and is still dropping as a Major Winter Storm is coming together. As of now predictions are for an accumulation between 8 and 16 inches of snow. A lot of this will depend on how much sleet and rain there is and how quickly the storm deepens off of the East Coast. It has been a long uneventful winter, so maybe this is a chance to have some fun. In the mean time be careful everyone and we shall see what we have to report tomorrow morning. Good-bye for now and God Bless.
2/9/2013 7:00 AM 0.46 6.3 0.46 5.6 0.46 HIGH 33.7 / LOW 23.8 Well, I should learn not to get so excited for a big snowstorm until it has arrived and is unleashing it's full furry. Accu-Weather and the National Weather Service were calling for 10 to 16 inches of snow to fall here in our backyard, however they missed the boat as we were lucky to receive the 6.3 inches that we did. And the reason that we received that was because a band of snow set up over our area and gave us nearly all of what we got, from mid-evening until the early morning hours. It was rather intriguing to watch the band form and set up over us on the radar. Winds were generally between 8 and 14 MPH throughout most of the day and when the winds did gust they were around 20 to 25 MPH and those gusts have just started since about 02:00. I do enjoy watching the weather unfold. I hope that everyone out there is safe and warm and please have a great weekend. God Bless.
2/10/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 5.0 M HIGH 32.6 / LOW 5.4 After some early morning cloudiness skies cleared nicely after our 6" snowfall from the day before. The high temperature for the day occurred at 07:00 and then dropped all day and throughout the night. Winds were quite blustery all day averaging near 15 to 17 MPH and gusting 30 to 35 MPH all day and into the night, before finally calming down considerably to around 5 MPH around midnight. More wintry weather is moving in for tonight and Monday as Freezing Rain will commence before daybreak on Monday and change to rain before noon time. Be careful in the morning everyone and God Bless.
2/11/2013 7:00 AM 0.20 0.0 M 4.6 M HIGH 38.7 / LOW 6.2 Yesterday and into the evening was a very tranquil winter day here in the backyard. Winds were generally calm throughout nearly the whole day registering at 6 MPH or less. They were from the West early and then switched to the East and then finally from the Southeast. Skies were clear from the start and stayed that way until just before sunset I could see some high clouds on the horizon off to the West and Southwest. Light rain began to fall at 03:20 here in my backyard and with the temperature at 31, it was freezing on contact. By 07:00 this morning the temperature here in the backyard had risen to 33.7 and so the freezing rain had switched over to plain rain. Temps are expected to rise to 45 today, so there should be no more freezing precipitation. Have a safe day everyone and God Bless.
2/12/2013 7:00 AM 0.14 0.0 M 2.4 M HIGH 42.3 / LOW 31.9 Yesterday can go down as a "Blah" day. Our day here in the backyard started out with some moderate rain, but it was over by 09:05, although there was some very light drizzle around the early evening hours. This mornings temperature of 42.3 at 07:00 AM is the high for the previous 24 hour period. As a side note the 42.3 temperature is in fact the highest temperature recorded here in the backyard since January the 31st. Getting back to the previous 24 hour period, skies were cloudy all day and night and with the snow pack from the recent weekend snowstorm and the mild temperatures we had some really dense fog for more than three-quarters of the day. Visibility was down to an eighth of a mile for a three hour period, from 14:30 to 17:30. Otherwise visibilities were in the quarter mile range for a good part of the daylight hours. As a friend of mine said to me: "I was on my way home from work at 16:00 and driving down the windy road I travel, with the fog and diminishing daylight, the bare trees...it gave the appearance of a spooky looking image of a scary bog in England, that is portrayed in some of the Sherlock Holmes movies." The winds were light and variable at 5 MPH for nearly the whole day except for when the frontal passage came through. Since 23:30 last night with the passage of the front, the winds became westerly at 16 MPH with gusts to 28 MPH and continue at these levels at 07:00 this morning. Take care out there everyone, have a great day and God Bless.
2/13/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M HIGH 43.1 / LOW 21.3 After a morning of some overcast skies, the day turned out to be fair and mild. Winds were a bit stout blowing at 15 MPH from the West and gusting to near 30 MPH until late afternoon, around 15:30 when they began to subside to around 7 MPH and variable at sunset. There is an opportunity for some light rain this afternoon followed by some rain and snow this evening and then changing to snow tonight and it may accumulate 1" to 3". It is going to be just a slop storm and there should be no major issues here in the backyard. Have a great day everyone and God Bless.
2/14/2013 7:00 AM 0.08 1.0 M 0.4 M HIGH 43.2 / LOW 27.7 Hello from the backyard. I hope everyone is OK this morning. We had a bookend day in the past 24 hours as we began the 24 hour period with Fair skies and ended the period with Fair skies. However, in between we began clouding over at 14:45. By 18:35 Lt. Sleet and Snow had begun to fall in the backyard. Precipitation changed over to all snow by 19:15. Lt. Snow continued until 23:30 along with fog and mist. The fog and mist continued until 04:50 and fair skies greeted us at sun-rise this morning under fair skies. With freezing temperatures since Midnight along with the mist and fog there is a coating of ice on cars and tree limbs. The car doors were a bit iced up this morning when the wife went out to start her car at 07:30. With nearly 5 & 1/2 hours of Snowfall, and it amounting to .08 in precipitation, you would think that it would accumulated to roughly an inch or so. However, with the ground being a bit warm from the mild temperatures earlier in the day and temperatures just above freezing when the Snow fell we finished up with a dusting on the ground. That's all from the backyard and may all of you have a great day. God Bless everyone.
2/15/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M HIGH 43.4 / LOW 24.8 Yesterday was a precipitation and cloud free day. Temperatures were near normal and winds were light and variable throughout the day. It was a very tranquil day here in the backyard. I hope everyone has a great day and God Bless to all.
2/16/2013 7:00 AM 0.23 0.5 M 0.4 M HIGH 52.3 / LOW 24.5 Yesterday was a mild winter day here in the backyard. The day started out with fair conditions and sunshine and that hung on until 15:30, when clouds began to roll in from the Southwest in advance of some precipitation. We were completely clouded over and Light Rain began to fall at 21:10 along with a bit of Light Fog. By 22:30 wet Snow was beginning to mix in and was all snow by 23:05. The Lt. Snow continued until 01:05 when the Snow came to an end. But because of the above freezing temperatures at the time when it was snowing and the warmth of the ground from the daylight hours the snow failed to accumulate more than .5 of an inch. As dawn broke this morning skies were clear with a touch of low level Lt. Fog and the ground has it's .5 of an inch coating of Snow. Winds yesterday were sustained at 14 MPH and gusted to as much as 29 MPH from the West during the daylight hours. Otherwise winds were generally light and variable at 6 MPH or less during the rest of the day. Have a great day everyone and God Bless.
2/17/2013 7:00 AM T T M T M HIGH 36.3 / LOW 22.8 A rather uneventful day here in the backyard as we had an average winter day. Temperatures were normal for the day. We had interchangeable skies today and we did experience some Lt. Snow flurry activity around 11:50. It did not amount to anything and it can be classified by no more than a trace at best. Winds were generally light at around 5 to 8 MPH throughout the whole day primarily from the North until 22:45 when we had a frontal passage that resulted in an increase in wind speeds to 14 MPH with gusts to as much as 26 MPH from the Northwest. That's it for today everyone and be careful out there. God Bless.
2/18/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 31.4 / LOW 15.1 The past 24 HRS> here in the backyard have been blustery to say the least. We had minimal cloud cover throughout the period, however during the afternoon hours there was a bit of cloudiness around, but no precipitation. Winds blew robustly all day and night, averaging 15 to 22 MPH and the gusts were rather strong as they were usually in the 30 to 40 MPH range with a peak wind gust of 47 MPH at 16:07. Today looks to be mostly sunny with high's near 30 degrees. Have a great and safe day and God Bless.
2/19/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 HIGH 35.3 / LOW 15.5 Wow, there is not much to say about yesterday. It was a clear cold day here in the backyard. Skies were clear all day and night and as dawn approached this morning we still had fair skies with some high cloudiness off to the West Southwest in advance of a Low pressure system and it's trailing cold front. The winds in the past 24 hours were light and variable at 6 MPH or less except for the morning hours when winds were gusting to 28 MPH as the winds were dying down from a windy 24 hour period on Sunday and Sunday night. Rain and Snow showers are on tap for later today, beginning sometime around Noon. Have a great day everyone. Be safe and God Bless all of you.
2/20/2013 7:00 AM 0.19 0.2 M 0.0 M HIGH 41.2 / LOW 23.9 We had a changeable day here in the backyard yesterday. We started out with fair skies early in the morning. But, that changes really quickly as clouds began to roll in shortly after daybreak. Skies were clouded over by 10:30 and Lt. Snow had set in by 11:05. The ground began to whiten, but shortly after a dusting had accumulated the snow changed to a cold rain. We had on again / off again rain until 18:05. We then had some light fog and mist until about 21:00. Now up until this point we had generally light and variable winds that occasionally blew at 10 MPH, but they stayed at about 6 MPH for the most part until the frontal passage at 21:30. At this point the winds became westerly at an average of 17 MPH and gusted to as much as 32 MPH all night long. The winds kept the Mrs. and I up nearly all night, so there are at least 2 tired people this morning. Today looks to be blustery and cold with a chance of Snow Flurries this afternoon.
2/21/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 29.8 / LOW 22.6 BRRRR! We had interchangeable skies all day and night, but the thing that was noticeable was the wind and cold temperatures. Winds were pretty much sustained between 14 and 17 MPH and gusted to 30 to 35 MPH. This wind has been going on at these levels and high at times for the last 36 hours. Looks like another slop storm for us here in the Lehigh Valley for the weekend.
2/22/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 35.7 / LOW 17.8 After some lightly overcast skies to start the day yesterday, things turned out fair, but continued to stay windy. Winds were pretty much steady at 15 MPH with gust to 30 MPH. However, finally at about 20:00 last night the wind began to slack off after 48 hours of steady strong winds. At 07:00 this morning winds were actually dead calm. I have not seen that in a while. By the way: Red in the morning, sailor take warning. Well it was a red sky this morning and a storm is on the way. Today will see increasing clouds and cold temps. God Bless and have a great day.
2/23/2013 7:00 AM 0.02 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 36.7 / LOW 21.9 Yesterday here in the backyard the day started out with fair skies and stayed that way until roughly 13:15 when high clouds began to move in. Skies were overcast by 14:20 and the clouds continued to lower and thicken and by sunset the cloud deck was becoming very dark. Skies remained that way until 03:30 this morning when fog and mist started to roll in. At times between then and 07:00 this morning we received .02 of an inch. Winds yesterday were pretty much consistent between 5 and 8 MPH from the Southeast for nearly the whole day except by 03:45 this morning the winds had swung around and had become Northeasterly at about 5 MPH. I hope everyone has a great Saturday and God Bless.
2/24/2013 7:00 AM 0.12 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 43.2 / LOW 33.4 Yesterday and last night was overcast with times of fog and mist and what amounted to some very light rain and some heavy drizzle. There were no periods of moderate or heavy rain. Initially there was talk of some wet snow, sleet and/or freezing rain; however the temperatures were too mild for any frozen precipitation. Winds were mostly out of the East and Northeast at 5 to 8 MPH. However the winds have been calm since just past 01:00 this morning and continue to be calm as of 07:00 AM.
2/25/2013 7:00 AM T T M 0.0 M HIGH 44.2 / LOW 26.6 Yesterday was a windy and mostly cloudy day with a few peaks of sunshine here in the backyard. Also at around 17:00 there were some snow flurries and snow granules for about 15 minutes. Winds were from the Northwest for the most part at 15 MPH and gusts to 28 MPH during the daylight hours, but calmed down to less than 8 MPH after sunset and are now blowing from the West. God Bless and have a great day.

3/2/2013 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 43.2 / LOW 30.7 Yesterday was a day that the predominant cloud clover was overcast. At 16:30 we had some snow flurries and snow pellets for about 15 minutes. It was just enough to make the sidewalk and road damp looking and the cars wet, but there was no accumulation of any kind. Winds were consistent through the day from the Northwest. Winds were 14 MPH with gusts to 31 MPH from 08:30 until roughly 20:00, when they abated to 6 to 8 miles per hour. That has continued to the 07:00 reporting time this morning. Something is brewing according to Accu-Weather for mid to late next week. This could be our last shot for a substantial snowstorm this winter season. Fingers are crossed here in the backyard and God Bless to everyone.
3/3/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 38.3 / LOW 23.9 A mostly overcast day except for some fair skies early this morning, was on tap for yesterday. 3/4/2013 7:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 36.8 / Low 23.3 The past 24 Hours turned out to be cloudy and cold. Skies were overcast throughout the period. Temperatures were a bit below normal. Winds were out of the Northwest at 10 - 15 MPH with gusts to 26 MPH for just about the whole period. There were some snow flurries during the early morning hours of today, but not enough to whiten the ground. It looks as though we are going to get skunked again this week when a Winter Storm and a good one too, will pass mostly to our South. We just can't buy a good Snowstorm and time is just about up. Have a good day everyone and God Bless.
3/5/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 40.1 / LOW 28.4 Overcast skies ruled the day except for some fair skies from 13:00 to 18:30. Winds averaged between 10 - 15 MPH with gusts as high as 30 MPH. God Bless and be safe everyone.
3/6/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 48.5 / LOW 30.8 Yesterday started off with Overcast skies but by 11:00 we were in the clear with fair skies and mild temperatures. Things stayed that way until 20:50 when skies had clouded up in advance of a Low Pressure system making it's way East Southeast from the Midwest. Winds were out of the East and Northeast all day and evening until 02:00 this morning when winds began to increase from the East. As of 07:00 this morning winds were now sustained at 15 to 20 MPH and gusts to 30 MPH. God Bless and have a great day.
3/7/2013 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 41.1 / LOW 33.8 What a storm.......NOT. We here in the Lehigh Valley received a whopping .01 of drizzle and that's it. The snow's were way down to the Southwest in Virginia, West Virginia, Western Maryland and South Central Pennsylvania. We were cloudy all day with strong winds. Winds were sustained at nearly 20 MPH and with gusts to 41 MPH all nearly all day until 03:00 when they dropped to an average of 8MPH. Winds were Easterly and then Northeasterly and now Northerly.
3/8/2013 7:00 AM 0.08 0.6 M 0.6 M HIGH 47.2 / LOW 29.9 Skies were Mostly Cloudy to Cloudy all day and night. Light Snow began at 00:25 this morning, but was not accumulating at first as the ground and other surfaces were just too warm. As the Snow continued and picked up just a bit in intensity the Snow began to accumulate on grassy surfaces and cars starting at roughly 02:15 this morning. As of the reporting time of 07:00 this morning the Light Snow had accumulated to .6 inch on car roofs and grassy surfaces. As of 07:00 this morning the Light Snow continues to fall at a steady, but light rate. The winds in the last 24 hours have been sustained at 10 - 14 MPH with gusts at times to as high as 22 MPH. As of this morning's reporting time of 07:00 the winds were continuing to blow at a sustained 10 MPH. All of this Cloudiness, Light Snow and Windy conditions are a result of a backlash from the Winter Storm that wrecked havoc from the Northern Rockies down through the Central Plains, across the Central Ohio Valley, through the Mid to Southern Mid-Atlantic, out to sea and then Northeasterly to New England. This has been a very disruptive and damaging storm, not to mention the size of the area involved. Once this storm is out of the way milder temperatures will move in for the weekend as temperatures are forecast to reach into the mid 50's both Saturday and Sunday. Have a great weekend everybody and God Bless to all.
3/9/2013 7:00 AM 0.02 0.1 M 0.0 M HIGH 43.4 / LOW 27.1 The day started out with Cloudy Skies and a very Light Snow falling. The snow stopped falling around 08:30 and our skies here in the backyard began to clear shortly after 16:15. We were out of the clouds by the time the sun set. Skies have remained clear since that time. Winds were consistent from the Northwest at 14 - 18 MPH with gusts to 32 MPH. Winds began to subside after 20:30 to just less than 10 MPH and direction had changed to a Northerly direction. As of 07:00 this morning winds are at 3 MPH or less from the Northwest and West. Have a great start to your weekend and God Bless to one and all.
3/10/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 65.6 / LOW 25.7 Yesterday was a beautiful day here in the backyard. When the wind did blow it was generally from the North to the Northwest at 6 MPH or less with an occasional breeze up to 10 MPH, but that was the exception to the rule. Skies were Fair throughout the recording period with not a hint of a cloud. The only excitement in the skies over the backyard were some occasional jet streams from the travelers high overhead on their way to here, there and everywhere. Have a wonderful 2nd part to your weekend and God Bless to everyone.

We are looking at a rainy day today and some of it may be heavy at times as a low pressure system pulls Northeastward to our west with it's trailing cold front. Winds were predominately out of the Northwest to North-Northwest at 15 to 20 MPH with gusts to as high as 38 MPH up through 03:00 this morning when the winds subsided to less than 10 MPH and from the West to West-Southwest. Today looks to be seasonably cold with clouds on the increase. Rain and Snow Showers should move in by 23:00 and continue tomorrow with an accumulation of an inch or less. 3/16/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 49.2 / LOW 19.9 We had a generally overcast day yesterday with an occasional glimpse of some sunshine very early in the morning hours yesterday and some fair skies this morning for a few hours. Winds were mostly from the West-Northwest to North-Northwest at an average of 14 MPH and some gust to 28MPH mainly from 10:30 yesterday morning until roughly 23:00 at which time the winds subsided to less than 10 MPH. Some Light Snow is on tap for today and tonight with a light accumulation of an inch or less. Temperatures being marginal, angle of the sun and a lack of a heavy snowfall rate will conspire to make for a minimal dusting. God Bless to all and be careful out there.
3/17/2013 7:00 AM 0.11 1.6 M 0.5 M HIGH 41.1 / LOW 28.9 Yesterday started out with fair skies, but that did not last long at all, as we were clouded over by 08:15. Clouds continued to lower and thicken and by 10:45 Light Snow had begun to fall. Because of the above freezing temperatures and the warmth of the ground the snow which was falling did not start to accumulate until 12:30. Snow continued to fall until 15:40 at which point it ended for the day. At the time of greatest accumulation on the deck in the shadow of what would be the sun's rays, the snow did accumulate to a depth of 1.6" on some wrought iron furniture. As of this morning the depth of the snow on the ground was a dusting and on the deck it measured 1.0". So I am going with a .5" snow cover as an average. Winds for the duration of the storm were from the Northeast at 10MPH or less and then became calm between 20:30 and 03:30 this morning. As of reporting time this morning the winds were at 5 MPH from the North and have been from the North at less than 8 MPH since 04:00 this morning. Have a great day everybody and God Bless to all.

3/19/2013 6:00 AM 0.56 3.2 M 1.8 M HIGH 37.2 / LOW 26.7 With two days to go before Spring rolls into the Backyard, Winter decided to let us know that he is not going to go quietly. The day started out with clear skies and Northeasterly winds at 8 MPH. By 09:45 the skies had clouded over and the winds were now sustained at 12 MPH with gusts to 20 MPH and from the East. Light Snow began to fall at 16:25 and winds were now East-Northeast at 18 MPH with some gusts to as high as 29 MPH. Heavy Snow was falling by 15:35 and beginning to accumulate with winds at 13 MPH from the Northeast and gusting to 21 MPH. At 19:45 a Snow measurement revealed an accumulation of 1.6" and the Snow was still falling at a moderate rate. At 20:40 the Snow was beginning to change over to sleet and this happened rather quickly. A measurement taken at the change over showed we had an average depth of 3.2". The plow trucks were going around and salting at this time. The sleet continued until roughly 22:00 when all precipitation had changed over to Freezing Rain. At this time the temperature was 30.1 and winds were from the Northeast at 8 to 10 MPH. Light Freezing Rain continued until 03:10 this morning and then all precipitation ended as the field of precipitation had moved onto the East and Northeast. As of 07:00 this morning the Snow pack had settled to 1.8" under it's own weight and with the introduction of Sleet and Freezing Rain. Be careful when you head out this morning and God Bless to all.

From 12:00 to 17:00 we saw mostly sunny skies and temperatures near 50 and the snow from the 18th nearly all melted away by 19:00. Winds started out calm at 7:00 yesterday but increased to 15 MPH with gusts to 33 from the West to Northwest by late morning and are still a bit strong at 10 to 15 MPH this morning under fair skies. 3/23/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 41.1 / LOW 26.8 A mostly fair day with some scattered clouds from time to time made for a day with 60% sunshine. Winds were a bit stout as they blew from the West at 13 to 17 MPH with gust to 26 MPH. That's it for today and God Bless to all.
3/24/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 47.3 / LOW 27.6 An interchangeable day yesterday here in the backyard. Skies varied from Fair to Mostly Cloudy to Fair and back again. Winds were the strongest during the daylight hours as they were sustained at 12 to 17 MPH with gusts to as high as 28 MPH mostly from the West-Northwest to Northwest between the hours of 08:30 and 18:45. Otherwise the winds were less than 10 MPH and interchangeable. A Winter Storm is on the horizon for late tonight through tomorrow night for at least 3" to 6" of Snow. We shall see how much we get for the start of the work week. In the mean time enjoy your day today and may God Bless all of you.
3/25/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 47.1 / LOW 28.8 It was a quiet day here in the Backyard. Temperatures were near average, winds were light and skies were fair. Winds were under 10 MPH throughout the previous 24 hours from the Northwest up until 14:00 when they swung around to Northeasterly and then East-Northeast at around 22:30. Skies began to cloud up around 22:15 and by 23:00 skies were completely cloudy and the cloud deck was lowering. These clouds are in advance of a storm system that is to bring Snow to the Backyard this morning through late this afternoon. As I get ready to submit this report at 07:05 a Light Snow has begun to fall her in the backyard. Indications are that we should receive 2 to 4 inches here in the Backyard. Have a great day and God Bless.
3/26/2013 7:00 AM 0.19 1.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 38.6 / LOW 32.8 Yesterday was just a sloppy, nasty day. It started out with Light Snow that began right at 07:00 and then the Snow picked up in intensity until 10:30 when it became light and then changed over to rain and snow mixture around 13:00. The most snow we ever had on the ground was 1", but that was all gone by 17:00 as the rain, high angle of the sun and above freezing temperatures did in the snow. Winds were light at mostly 10 MPH or less with a few gusts to 14 MPH. Winds were Northeasterly until 17:00 when they turned to Northwesterly. God Bless to all and have a great day.
3/27/2013 7:00 AM 0.02 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 51.0 / LOW 26.6 A nearly uneventful 24 hours except for a brief sprinkle of rain from 19:40 until 20:30. Skies otherwise were interchangeable from fair to Overcast, changing quite often. Winds were mostly from the Northwest to Southwest at less than 10 MPH except for the period from 10:00 to 16:00 when they were at 14 MPH with an occasional gust to 22 Mph. Looks as though things are going to warm up for Easter weekend with temps in the 50's. Have a great day everyone and God Bless.
3/28/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 50.3 / LOW 25.2 We had just a beautiful Spring day here in the Backyard. Winds were under 10 MPH for most of the day except for during the late morning and afternoon hours when it was elevated to 15 MPH with gusts to 25 and primarily from the Northwest. Have a good day and God Bless to all.

By 15:45 we had some very Light Rain falling, but it did not give a measurement until about 17:50. Rain continued at mostly a light affair until about 23:15, when conditions became just Foggy and Misty. Things have stayed that way until 07:00 this morning. 6/14/2013 7:00 AM 1.69 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 73 / LOW 56 I am going to try to get back into the groove today. Over the past few months, I have been battling some major health issues. And because of that I have only been reporting the precipitation and little else. I love the Weather and talking about it is something I really enjoy. So, since I am feeling better, I am going to try and get more responsive in my daily reporting. Yesterday started out dry, cloudy and a bit humid. But, by 08:27 (06/13/2013) the rain was falling again. By 10:35 (06/13/2013) we received .89" of rain. We stayed relatively dry until 16:45 (06/13/2013) when the next shower hit and it came down hard for about 25 minutes right in the middle of the wife's commute home from work. During this particular period we received an additional .52" of rain. This .42" of rain fell in 1 HR & 5 MINS. That was pretty much it as far as the heavier rain is concerned. We did receive an additional .28" and that fell in the period from 21:10 (06/13/2013) through 04:30 (06/14/2013). This .28" of rain was in the form of light showers. Southeast Pennsylvania, Eastern half of Maryland, Delaware, nearly all of New Jersey and on up to New York City, Long Island, Conn., Rhode Island and Eastern Mass. all got into the heavy rain; depending upon your location. But, as I said above we here in the Backyard were just a bit to far North and West to get in on the act. Looks as though things are going to settle down for a bit. Have a great day and God Bless.

6/27/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 89.4 / LOW 68.9 Another very warm and muggy day here in the Backyard. No precipitation yesterday as storms were confined mostly to South of the Mason Dixon Line. Forecasts continue to call for a front to stall along the coast and a funnel of moisture to commence coming up from the South in an area between the Appalachian Mountains and the East Coast. Forecasters believe that wave upon wave of moisture will follow this path beginning sometime this weekend and lasting into the middle of next week. This could greatly affect the Delaware River as it it is running at higher than normal levels. In the mean time it looks to be another warm and humid day. Be careful one and all and God Bless.
6/28/2013 7:00 AM 0.37 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 91.2 / LOW 71.4 We had a very warm and humid day yesterday here in the Backyard. Temperatures again nosed up above the 90* degree mark while high dew points helped to make for uncomfortable conditions. We here in the Backyard were right in the bulls-eye so to speak as we only received .37" of rain from yesterdays Thunderstorms. Those around us in just a 60 mile radius received amounts of 2.75" just 55 miles to the Northwest, 1.60" just 15 miles to the South, 1.91" & 2.71" just 33 & 41 miles respectively to the East and a little more than 60 miles to the North of us in Southern Wayne County there was a reading of 4.15" of rain. So as you can see as is most often the case in the Summer time with Thunderstorms, there was a big difference within a 60 mile radius of the amount of rain that fell. The stormy wet pattern is going to continue for at least the next week and if the trough to our West sets up in conjunction with a stalled front along the East Coast, rain gauges could begin to fill up rather quickly on a daily basis and those along main stem rivers may need to watch for general Flooding as though along the smaller tributaries may need to watch as well for Flash Flooding with Heavy Thunderstorms and possible Training of Storms and showers. So as I bid you adieu today, keep an eye to the sky, be careful out there and God Bless to all of you.
6/29/2013 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 87.0 / LOW 67.6 Another warm and muggy day here in the Backyard. Thunderstorms were all around once again; but as has been the case recently we here missed out on the rainfall. We shall see what today has in store for us. God Bless to all and enjoy your weekend.
6/30/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 87.8 / LOW 69.0 Another day of warm temperatures and humidity here in the Backyard. There were no Showers or Thunderstorms anywhere near the area. BUT, as I have previously talked about this past week, it appears we are being set up for a prolonged rain event beginning sometime this afternoon or evening. he funnel of tropical moisture is in place and tropical air is streaming Northward. The NWS is already calling for at least a 60% of heavy rain from Showers and Thunderstorms today, 70% tonight and up to 80% during the day Monday. POP's remain high through Wednesday night at 60% or 70%. So we sit here and wait for the deluge that is forecasted to come. In the mean time, have a great day and God Bless to all. Be safe out there my friends.
7/1/2013 7:00 AM 2.07 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 85.2 / LOW 71.1 Well, we here in the Backyard have finally received some of the rainfall that has been going on just to our Northwest and Southeast. We had .03" of rain yesterday afternoon, but the real event came overnight when 2.04" of rain fell by 7:00 AM and it is still raining. Forecasts continue to call for much more, so we will hunker down and wait for what is to come. Have a safe day everyone and God Bless.
7/2/2013 7:00 AM 0.86 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 78.6 / LOW 71.2 Another warm and muggy day here in the Backyard. Showers and Thunderstorms were all around, but this 24 hour period did not see as much in the rain gauge as yesterday. Today looks to be another warm and muggy day as the tropical moisture flow continues as we are in the middle of the squeeze play between the Low Pressure trough to our West and the Bermuda High to our East. Who gets rain and who doesn't remains to be seen. Be careful when you are out and about and God Bless to all.
7/3/2013 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 85.1 / LOW 72.5 Another warm and muggy day here in the Backyard, but we only received some sprinkles and a very light shower. Most of the rain showers stayed well to the South. Today will be another warm and muggy day with a chance of Showers and Thunderstorms. Be careful and God Bless to all.
7/4/2013 7:00 AM 0.53 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 85.6 / LOW 71.4 The vinyl record has a nick in it because it keeps on skipping and playing the same old tune. (HOT & MUGGY). For what seems like forever, it was another day of very warm and humid conditions. Yesterday when the temperature reached it's maximum of 85.6*F, the Dew Point stood at a balmy 74*F and the Humidity was at 60%. Not very friendly conditions. We thought we were going to get through the day unscathed without any precipitation, but a Thunderstorm popped up just 20 miles to our Southwest and moved Northeast right over our Backyard at 20:50, producing some small sized pea Hail, some very vivid Lightning & Thunder along with 39 MPH Winds and a final Rainfall total of .53". After passing over us the Thunderstorm began to weaken and within about 45 minutes it had dissipated. I had just mentioned to the wife not 30 minutes before that it would appear that the rain was going to stay to the South and East. Well, never assume anything in the world of Weather. As you go about this 4th of July, remember our Independence and the sacrifices that have been payed by so many thorough so many Wars: The American Revolutionary War, The War Of 1812, The Mexican-American War, The Civil War, The Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, The Persian Gulf War, The War In Afghanistan and The Iraq War. There have been other engagements through-out our history that are lesser known, but are no less important than these that have been listed. God Bless to all those who have served and for those that have given the ultimate sacrifice protecting our Independence.

It will persist through much of this week with a chance of Thunderstorms each day right through the Weekend. God Bless to you all and be careful out there.

Showers were off and on, but there were no Thunderstorms or heavy downpours here in the Backyard. 7/15/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 94.2 / LOW 72.1 The Heat has returned to the Backyard and not to be out done the Humidity has returned in earnest as well. According to the National Weather Service and Accu-Weather we here in the Backyard are going to see High Temperatures in the mid to upper 90's and Heat Indexes into the low 100's. It is going to be an oppressive week here in the Backyard and nearly the entire East Coast. The Heat Pump is on, so if you are going to be out in the heat, please exercise caution especially if you must work in the heat. God Bless to all of you out there and please do be careful.
7/16/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 99.1 / LOW 72.8 HAZY, HOT & HUMID. Trust me the Dog Days of Summer have arrived in earnest. No relief in site until at least Saturday or Sunday. It's bake and broil time Boys. Be careful out there in this heat and God Bless to all.
7/17/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 100.9 / LOW 76.9 The Steam Boat rolls on here in the Backyard and it is going to get worse before it gets better. We may hit 100*F or more over the next two or three days. Everybody hang in there and do what you can to stay cool. God Bless to all.
7/18/2013 7:00 AM 0.31 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 101.3 / LOW 71.7 Hazy, Hot & Humid again and again. The persistent heat wave continues here in the backyard, but changes are coming. We are looking for a cold front to push through late Saturday afternoon or evening which should push the heat and humidity off the coast and too the South for a few days, before it returns once again towards the middle of next week. Last night a Thunderstorm popped up about 20 miles to our Northwest and moved through our Backyard, dropping .31" of rain before dissipating 15 miles to our Southeast Be safe out there in this heat everyone and God Bless to all.
7/19/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M HIGH 102.9 / LOW 76.9 I guess you could say that it was just a bit warm yesterday here in the backyard. Yesterday at 15:49 with a temperature of 102.9*F and a Dew Point of 69.7*F it made for a Heat Index of 113.1*F. Today they are looking for Temperatures near 100*F again and Heat Index's between 105*F and 110*F and a 30% chance of a Shower or Thunderstorm. Saturday looks to be Hazy, Hot & Humid once again with high temperatures in the mid to upper 90's and Heat Index's near 100*F to 102*F. Then sometime Saturday, late afternoon or evening, Thunderstorms that could be severe with Frequent Lightning, Torrential Downpours and Hail will come rolling through in advance of and along a Cold Front from the Northwest. This Frontal Passage should lead to cooler temperatures in the low to mid 80's during the day and low 60's at night with reduced Humidity Levels and lower Dew Points. Temperatures will run from the mid to upper 80's from the beginning of next week through at least Thursday with a chance of Showers and Thunderstorms each day Monday through Thursday. Sunday looks to be clear with high's around 84. Be careful out there everyone and God Bless to all. I am having a procedure at the Hospital today at 10:00 AM, so I am unsure at this point as to whether I will be reporting tomorrow or not. Catch ya later and be good.
7/20/2013 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 HIGH 98.0 / LOW 76.8 For the fifth day in a row we here in the Backyard were over 94*F. For the first time in four days we did not reach 100*F, but it was not for a lack of trying. Even though we are going to have a Cool Front come through sometime this afternoon or tonight and give us a chance at some Thunderstorms and a slight reduction in Heat and Humidity; please don't get the idea that we are out of the woods, because we will not be by any stretch of the imagination. Today we will see Highs near 95*F along with higher than normal Dew Points which will lead to Heat Index Values between 100*F and 105*F. Depending on where the Low Axis sets up in conjunction with the Jet will dictate where the Thunderstorms will fire and be at their worse. Looking at the Models as of 07:00, it would appear that the Thunderstorms will set up just East of the spine of the Appalachians and then move off to the East and the Southeast. The I-95 Corridor looks to be the prime target for these late day and evening Thunderstorms. So if you are out and about around that time please keep an eye to the sky. Be careful out there everyone and may God Bless You All.
7/21/2013 7:00 AM 0.71 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 HIGH 95.5 / LOW 73.5 Finally getting some cooling and received some Thunderstorms yesterday evening.

7/23/2013 7:00 AM 2.29 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 HIGH 89.9 / LOW 71.3 Well, my oh my. We did not have very high temperatures yesterday for a change here in the Backyard, but we sure made up for the change in Precipitation The Humidity levels were very high, so you could tell that something was in the air. But, it did not stay in the air for long, as it precipitated down on the ground in some very heavy downpours. From 20:30 yesterday evening until 21:35, a matter of 1 hour and 5 minutes, we received just under 3/4 of an inch of rain when we received .73". We got hit pretty hard again just past Midnight when at 00:35, the skies opened up and gave us 1.14" of rain in a matter of 1 hour and 35 minutes. So, as you can see, we received 1.87" of rain in two bursts over a total time of 2 hours and 40 minutes. We received the balance of the 2.29" which was .42" during the time of 13:30 PM on the 22nd of July and 02:15 on the 23rd of July. We had a fair amount of thunder and lightning, but no real hard cracks; more like rolling thunder. I observed no hail at any time during this period and there was no real breezy wind speeds. Hope you all got through this OK and may God Bless you this day.

Rain began falling here in the Backyard, just before 04:00 this morning and as of 07:00 this morning we have received .39" of rain. There will be more to follow throughout the day as the front presses further to the East. We are looking at a 60% chance of Showers and Thunderstorms today into this evening, so if you are going to be out and about please exercise caution and God Bless to you all.

Real measurable rain commenced around 14.40 and continued off and on through this morning as of this reporting time. Although we ha no hail or heavy clap's of thunder we still had quite a bit of Thunder and Lightning activity. It was of the Flash variety rather than streaks and bolts. The NWS and Accu-Weather say we here in the Backyard can be looking for more of the same today with an 80% chance of Showers and Thunderstorms that could produce small hail, gusty winds, flash-flooding and heavy rain-fall that could produce an additional 1" to 2" of rain through-out the day. Have a safe one everyone and God Bless to all.
