Seventeen degrees here in WESTbygawd this morning, on my front porch! I'd just wet my hair down to tame my bedhead when I took the dogs and kitty out this morning...my curls froze stiff! There was a fragile fairy web of frost decorating the weather gauge; the early morning rising sun shone thru it, adding to the visual delight. I saw FOUR "shooting stars" in the Geminid meteor shower last night. |

Snow is rapidly melting. Measured that on the ground--between 2-3" depending on where I measure. What a wonderful Christmas Eve gift--that beautiful snow that fell for several hours right before dusk yesterday. The sun is bright this morning and SO warm it feels almost like April. This is my favorite winter weather. The air is perfectly still. Temp at 9 AM is 30 degrees; snow very sticky and wet. Humidity is 56%. |

About 7:30 it began to snow, then changed to sleet tap, tapping, tapping on my windowpane. Miz Weather changed her mind once again and big, feathery flakes began to fall, lasting about 1/2 hour or so. Now at 8:30 it has begun to snow smaller flakes, with a little more determination. |

a little rain fell last night--I did not read what was in gauge, but did empty it. Thunder, lightning and wind were beginning so I was moving fast! Just came inside; heard thunder since about 7:15. To the west was a HUGE semi-circular cloud covering a big portion of sky, directly overhead, moving east. Can still see mountains to east (about 10 miles east); the big black front is moving over them, and the pink line of early morning brightness is growing smaller and smaller.

it's now 11 AM. Went out to work in and water gardens at 9:30. In the shade it is quite pleasant, with a small breeze to cool the heated brow (and the rest of me). The sun is becoming hothothot, especially when one is close to the earth, checking for weeds, hiding cucumbers and squash, hand-watering some of the smaller plants. Harvested nearly a cup of black raspberries this morning from the wooded strip across the street. Because we've had such a damp spring, the berries are big. Because of a spring drought last year, we didn't get much of a harvest. Hope we get some water from the heavens in a few days. We're getting just a little dry, and the wineberries are still forming in their fuzzy little jackets and need lots to drink so they can grow up to be big and juicy. |
