There was <0.01" in the gauge after it warmed up - I think quite a bit of this was from frost, not snow, as the whole cylinder (inside & out) had quite a bit of frost on it.
A note on snow depth reports: it will be very difficult to get meaningful & accurate readings due to snow clearing operations around the building - I am in an apartment with a large outdoor parking lot that is kept rather well plowed out.

I was out yesterday from about 3:15 PM until about 8:15 PM to a location about 2/3Km. west of observer #141's location. There was a few moments of heavy rain there at about 4:30. Heard some loud thunder, although I did not see the lightning, during this period. When I arrived home, about 1/3 of the previous 24 hours' precipitation was in the gauge - the rest fell overnight. You might want to compare 141's reading with some others further south in St. Vital (like mine), also with some from points further east in the Greater Winnipeg area.

I thought yesterday's reading was a bit high & somebody had been adding water to the gauge to fool me. I now realize this wasn't the case - the reading really was that high. Have had almost 2-1/2" in the last 48 hours. I live in an apartment & the community garden looks a bit "soggy", also pools of water in some of the lower spots on the cross-country hydro right-of-way where the garden is. The local broadcast radio station says there was some basement flooding & the morning traffic report says there are problems with some of the traffic lights. Note that I did not personably observe the basement flooding & traffic light problems - I am only repeating what was on the radio. My personal observation was limited to the garden. |

There was some thunder here at about 3:45 yesterday afternoon, fairly close from the sound, although I did not observe the lightning. The sky was very dark to the south at that time. There was no rain here. At this time there was a considerable amount of cumulus cloud cover (about 60-70%), with extensive vertical development. At about 10:30 last night there was some lightning. The official weather office apparently observed rain at that time, so this is likely when the rain in the gauge fell. Current sky conditions are completely clear. I have not observed any flooding, nor have I heard of any.

This rain has fallen in the last 24 hours. There was .34" in the gauge at 3:00 PM yesterday, and .75" in the gauge at 4:20 AM this morning. It is raining lightly at the moment. There was a cloudburst between 1:30 & 2:00 PM at a location several kilometers to the west of my home location, but still within the Metro Winnipeg area. There were further cloudbursts throughout the afternoon, with lightning & thunder. As you may be aware, this is the week-end for the radio amateurs' Field Day (I am a radio amateur). The thunderstorm activity, and very high winds caused some problems in the Winnipeg area - cannot safely operate in a thunderstorm, tents blown down, etc. The rain at times was hard enough to reduce visibility for driving (<1/4 mile at times), and there has been some minor street flooding observed. We are still experiencing high winds, although I have not seen or heard of any major damage. Smaller twigs have been blown off trees, and I would not be surprised if there have been bigger branches blown down, although I am not specifically aware of any. The only time increments for the precipitation that are available are what I have indicated here.

Due to high wind conditions over the week-end, tree branches broke and damaged power lines, resulting in local outages. Apparently there have been problems outside of Winnipeg with overland flooding from the unusual amount of rain over the past couple of weeks.

Temperature 10C. (too cold), skies overcast - will this rain ever end? Apparently there was some severe wind damage over the past week-end. Some areas in south-western Manitoba & south-eastern Saskatchewan are experiencing severe flooding & washed-out roads.

Sky mostly clear at the moment - occasional small cumulus clouds & they are moving south fairly quickly - must be fairly windy at probably an altitude of 3000 to 5000 feet. The time given for the rainfall is only a "best guess", as I am going by my recollection of sky conditions yesterday from mid-afternoon until early evening. |

This rain fell yesterday morning at the indicated time. The start time is very accurate - within about 2 to 3 minutes. The end time is approximate - between 9:25 & 9:45. The storm was accompanied by quite a bit of thunder, although I didn't actually visually observe very much of the lightning that caused it. |

There was a severe storm last evening (started about 11:00 PM local time, don't know when it ended, & I was in another area of the city). That location had about the same amount of rain as my gauge showed, although the gauge there is not an "official" gauge. I think the precipitation was general over the Winnipeg area at this time. |
