Rain that began as a mere drizzle about 10:30 AM on the 11th soon became moderately heavy and produced 0.19 inches of precipitation (all from RAIN) by 3:30 PM. At that time, there was an abrupt changeover to SNOW. An additional 0.10 inches of precipitation (all from melted SNOW) was obtained from the rain gauge this morning. My best estimated of total snowfall and new snow and ice on the ground at time of observation was 1.0 inches. Melted core values from the snow board and the ground gave values of 0.05 and 0.06, respectively, probably because there was a certain amount of initial melting snow after landing on the snow board and ground. A thin layer of frozen snow and ice on the snow board, which proved difficult to sample, lends credence to this assumption. |
