Very cold this morning, it the minus numbers, -3 degrees. No school today as the roads are in not great shape, so out school distract cancelled classes. What a wonderful gift that was! It was cold this morning, but not as cold as it has been. When I checked the ice and rainfall this morning, it was 32 degrees, it is now 34 and things are melting. There was 1.24 in the rain gauge, with ice on the trees and buses and on the sidewalk and driveway. The streets were somewhat slippery. There was about 3/4 of an inch of snow on the ground that melted to .48 and there was about 1/4 of ice on the tree limbs and bushes, which melted to .01 (is what I got) Right now, as I report this, all the ice seems to be melting and everything looks quite wet. Our backyard is saturated and there is some water coming in the basement because the back yard is so saturated. We at least have power and there are some other areas that are out of power, not many limbs down, but I did see some down on sidewalks and in front yards. |

It is very cold out right now and it is snowing and has been since early this morning. We did have a big burst of snow yesterday around 8:30 or so. It come off of Lake Michigan and the band stretched through Jackson. We go a couple of inches and is included in this report. Temperature is around 14 degrees with a slight breeze. The snow is really fine and coming down quite steady. We have maybe a little more than 3 inches at this time. Very pretty for the first day of January. Hopefully all our neighbors to the north up towards Lansing have their power back on. It has been a very unusual week for our weather from 50 degrees on Sat last to 14 degrees today. It is 11 degrees out right now and there is a wind, so I am quite sure the wind chill is zero or below. It is very cold out. I waited until all of the snow had stopped before going outside, one to take the measurements and two, to snow blow. It is starting to snow again, but it is very light and mixed with the blowing snow, hard to tell anything. There was 5 inches of new snow that melted to .56 and 7 total inches on the ground, with a melted value of .63. It snowed pretty steady from yesterday and through this afternoon, small flakes, yes, because of the cold, but a lot of snow none the less. Looks like our storm is over for now. |

It is 3 above right now and the wind chill is -18. The wind is really whipping up and the snow is drifting. We had another 2 inches or so that I measured on the snow board. It melted in the gauge to .10. Our backyard has drifted so, that I had to take 4 different area readings and I averaged them out to get an average of 18 inches of snow on the ground in our backyard right now that melts to 2.09. No school today and many businesses and the government agencies are closed also. We are told to stay off the road. My husband could not get out of the subdivision to get to work. Hopefully the plows will be through this afternoon sometime because I can not get out either and if we have school tomorrow, I will not be able to get there. We had a total of 12 inches from yesterday's storm. We had already 6 inches of snow, so I do believe 18 inches in accurate for measurement. These measurements include the significant weather reports from yesterday. I did two reports yesterday, 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm, along with my regular morning reading for this snow storm. This is the largest amount of snow for this area in the last at least 8 years or so. |

Sorry about the delay, we have been taking care of water issues. There is at least 1 inch of standing water in our back yard, which of course is coming into the basement. What fun. We had .53 inches of rain over the night. It is not raining now and has not been raining for a while now, thank goodness. There is still about 8.5 inches (averaged) of snow on the ground right now, it of course is very heavy and compacted and wet. Melted it measured 1.54 inches. Hopefully the temperature will drop below freezing fairly soon. Being a science teacher, this has been a great learning lesson for my students, extreme weather to the max here, with the snow and then rain and melting. It is 38 degrees right now. |

About an inch ofnew snow to report. Sorry I am behind, school has been too busy to get to report. There is no new accumulation of snow and there is about 4 inches of snow on the ground, which melted to about 1.16. The bottom is frozen and crusty and heavier than the top part of the snow pack. The roads were slippery and of course not plowed or salted this early in the am. We did have a roll over accident of students on the way to school this morning, but only scratches and bruises, thank goodness. Students driving too fast, I could not go very fast down the road at all. There was just enough of new snow to make things slippery. |

Sorry this is so late. I took an average for snow depth in the yard. We have had so much drifting, that I had to take 6 different snow depths and average all the numbers, which came to 9 inches as an average of snow in my backyard. Melted, it comes to .99. The snow board had about 3.5 inches, again, because of the wind, this was an average. The snow tube melted to .19. The snow was very fluffy and light. It was very cold and windy today and the later the day went, the colder it got. The wind was pretty good and blowing things around once again. We had the day off from school and it is closed again tomorrow. Very cold and the roads are terrible because they are so icy and snow covered. With the blowing snow, it makes it even worse. Winter sure has hit us hard so far this January, with no end in sight. Wednesday am looks to be very cold also, so we cold even have a 2 hour delay before reporting to school or another day off. We have not had a full week of school yet, since coming back from break. Also, I heard that we could get more snow this weekend that could equal what we had the first of the month. We are we going to put it? With the west so dry, it is too bad we can't send all this moisture out there. |

It is very cold out this morning. We had just a trace of snow on the board and the same in the tube. Too little to really measure on both counts. The temperature this morning with wind chill is -28 and our regular temperature is -7. The sun is out though, so it makes it look warmer than it is. We are out of school one more day, we shall see about tomorrow, our wind chill warning is in effect until tomorrow morning. Our high today will only be 3 above, which will not melt anything, I think the snow out in the yard will be with us for a while. It is 25 right now, it was 23 when we got up at 8am. There was about a 1.4 or so of ice that I had to chip away from the snow board that was under the snow, so basically that matched the tube when I melted everything. There is a crust on the snow, which makes it hard to shovel. Again, I took readings around my yard because of past drifting and there are multiple snow levels around the yard. The average was 13.0 inches of snow, which melted to 1.90 and that was with the crusty layer. Our road is a mess and probably will not be plowed until tomorrow sometime, which will make a mess in the driveway once again. However, on a bright note, saw 10 robins this morning, they were very plump, not thin. Isn't this a bit early? I don't recall seeing them this early unless of course it was unseasonably warm, but then, I still don't think I have seen them this early in Feb. Interesting. They were eating the dried up crabapples on my tree out front and they made a mess, there are dried up crabapples all over the front walk. |

It is snow pretty good right now. It started to snow harder around 5:30 am. I almost hit a truck this morning, slid into a snowbank instead. Figured it was better to get an alignment than have to repair the whole front end. It was very hard to see, like fog and I was following a plow. With the blowing snow, that made it very difficult on the roads this morning. There is about 13 inches of total snow in the back yard, of course that is after measuring various places because of past drifting. It is 7 degrees right now and quite cold. We had quite a snow yesterday morning. Many accidents on I-94, about 40 cars and trucks created a pile-up, not great. I myself slid into a snow bank on the way to school. The storm hit right at commuting time, which we were told it would. It snowed all night off and on and was snowing this morning. There was a total of 2 inches on the snow board this morning, which melted to .12 off the board and out of the tube. We have had all types of weather since I logged in yesterday. While at work, instead of rain, it snowed, very hard, but then after about an hour or more, it started to rain and it rained very hard, so the snow that was on my snowboard all melted and there was none when I got home. There was just about a 1/4 of slush left on the board, so I cannot report from here, what the new snowfall was. The flakes were very large and came down strong at work, so my guess was at least 2 inches, if not 3 that came down at that time. I poured quite a few times during the day and evening and my tube held over an inch of water, 1.09, so some of that was from the snowfall that started mid morning, around 10:30ish. We had little snow squalls and then it would rain. Now, the wind is just howling outside. Strong gusts. The sun has also peaked out from time to time. The snow in the backyard is very heavy and very full of water, melted I got 2.40. Lots of water in what is left of the snow and it is very heavy to move. The temperature right now is 34, but with the wind chill should be in the 20s or even the teens when it whips around. In the backyard there is melt, with puddles and also frozen areas that are cleared. We cleared the area from around the back of our house, so our basement would not flood with all of the melt. |

It was 9 degrees this morning and we got another 5 inches of snow here. We had rain last night and it poured for quite a while before the rain changed over to snow. Well, here we go again. I now have 17 inches of snow in my yard once again. It was finally melting and down to 11 inches. The snow pack underneath was finally melting also, so it was not solid ice and could be measured, but, that is life. We had a total of 6 inches come down and it was heavy stuff, with the rain that came first and for that I am glad. I cannot imagine how much snow we would have received without the rain first. The only thing is there is a layer of slush underneath the snow, which makes it very heavy. It is zero degrees right now and we have a wind chill of -4, which is not as bad as was predicted, but still, it is cold enough. |
