10/1/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 0.00" inches again. For those interested, "INCH" in Gaelic means 'island' That's how boring the weather's been. We still have a couple robins about, and I saw 3 hawks. Hummingbirds left a note, "See later, make sure the feeders are ready next April and do something about the bees." Leaves look to be near, but not quite, in peak colour. The rain guage has forgotten why it's there, but some sort of bug has found the outer tube a suitable place to cacoon and metamorphosize.
10/2/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Again, another day of no rain. The cloud movement direction is back to northwest to southeast. last week and a half they, as few as they were were from the northeast. We have a fair bit of fog this morning. can't see the aurora from here as usual, turkey hill to the north blocks it, but Mt Washington Observatory has a good picture. I'll check the shortwave reception in the afternoon.
10/3/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The rain gauge forgot why it's there.
10/4/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Again no rain. I did hear a lot of Canada Honkers, sounded like 30, heading off just after sunset. Trees are well onto defoliating.
10/5/2013 5:00 AM 0.42 M M M M The rain gauge had no idea what to do with the water. Whatever cocooned in the bottom is probably a bit confused. Light shower activity throughout the day, low is 56, no wind. And some fog set in, not much.
10/6/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/7/2013 5:00 AM 0.35 M M M M Most of the day was in the form of light showers and drizzle.
10/8/2013 5:00 AM 0.69 M M M M We had, as did many other counties, a severe thunderstorm warning. The only thing missing was lightning and thunder. Once the rain started the 40+ mph wind stopped. The rain lasted 30 minutes. The temp went from 72 to 63, It wasn't as humid as was predicted. No storm damage locally, although it's obvious foliage season came to an abrupt end.

10/11/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Dry cloudy day, but it was relaxing with the lower 60's. Wednesday's porcupine had so much food after the leaf clearing he never came back. The cab driver said they are all over the place since the big blow.

10/17/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The mostly sunny forecast didn't quite go as planned. Still no rain. Currently 51°, cloudy, light wind. Cloud movement is from the SSW. Crickets and peepers have all given up, Still 2 robins around 5 PM and loads of chickadees in the trees.
10/18/2013 5:00 AM 0.16 M M M M interesting temperature changes.54.1 at midnight, 3:30, 60.3, 4:45Am 61.3, and currently 57.1. The clouds broke up just after the high temp. Currently cumulus from the west lit up by our near Hunter's Moon. At the highest temp, the wind picked up from the southwest and shifted to west at 8-13 MPH. It's calm again. Few crickets being determined, NO SNOW YET.

11/8/2013 5:00 AM 0.13 M M M M Cloudy all day, wind was less than forecast. Low temp was 6 degrees lower than the 33 forecast,currently 27.

11/16/2013 4:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Filtered sun through the day, not much for chickadees or crows. Rather tranquil. There were 2 squirrels uspet a critter posing danger was afoot, but they soon settled down.

12/19/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No precip to report. Mostly sunny. Temp has been rising overnight. Nothing else to report aside from the unfortunate winter mosquito in the microwave incident. 3 years of visiting taken down by the search for warmth that went awry.
12/20/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We got to 40° and alot of clouds to the south. Not much for wind, just enough to blow the reamining snow off the trees onto anyone daring enough to go outside for a smoke. It's so empty without our winter Mosquito. I'd called all the local hotels to see if she'd checked in, the hospital to see if she'd flown into a windscreen, but alas I cooked her. Oh well, tjose things happen.
12/21/2013 5:00 AM T M M M M Small drops short lived. High temp was 38.6°. On a cheery note, our winter mosquito flew down from Turkey Hill complaining of hotel prices. This makes me wonder who's mosquito I microwaved, as no one has put an advert in the lost and found of the local paper of their mosquito missing. My 7 year old kitten (named Puss Puss)is interested in sitting in the window to watch snow falling, yet has no interest in rain. She misses the window open to smell the tasty birds, and has no concept of freezing the tail off. Chickadees are still around as also are the Phoebes. Odd. Yesterday afternoon, there were 2 wild turkeys flying in the tops of the evergreens, apparently not happy with the accommodations. If they had a bit more money they could have stayed where the winter mosquito did. The turkeys flew around for an hour and a half.

12/23/2013 5:00 AM 0.10 M M M M No frozen or freezing rain to report. Just the liquid variety, which must be cheaper to make. 31 wild turkeys were counted this morning my Mom, who has fantastic stuffing recipes. No winter mosquito seen (I did check the microwave again to be sure), but a moth heading north passed by and gave a tip o' the hat. Squirrel foot tracks in the back yard, what little there is, and around 4PM the turkeys dotted the front yard with tracks before roosting, quite noisily in the trees on TURKEY HILL. Nature is wonderful. Our high was 45.6°, but only for a few minutes, while 30 miles to the southeast in Worcester, Mass broke a record high with 63°. It took little time to drop back to 34°. Fog was thick, wind was light. Merry Christmas to all that take the time to read this, and have a great new year.
12/24/2013 5:00 AM 0.60 M M M M All was the form of liquid that did not freeze. Not any wind, which I expect is the reason we never got above 37°. Nothing like the storm in the UK, which is a storm we had a week ago. My friend in Scotland says if the wind's going to be up to 80 MPH with 'action alerts', that means to open the windows for fresh air. Their next storm will be Friday.(the one that just left New England, just now).
12/25/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Alas, the rain has ended. The wild turkeys, which my 7 year old kitten (Puss Puss), has noticed, have taken to staying in the trees as it's a chilly day, and as of this report, 12.2°. Wind is blowing up a hoolie, sky is clear, and the moon has a wind-breaker on. Merry Christmas to all CoCoRHaS participants and We wish you all a great New Year. Side note. Santa stood us up. 12/28/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Nothing, zilch, not a flake of snow, excluding what blew off the trees. Cardinals, chickadees, blue jays were in chorus, and the wild turkeys made a show, as they've been doing chicken impressions for the last few days. It appears they have an interest in the neighbor's bird feeders. I'll ask them when they come through again. Winter mosquito has made no appearances, still no word on who's winter mosquito I microwaved.
12/29/2013 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Visitors today were, winter mosquito, who appeared to have air bubbles in the fuel lines (up and down flight) and 26 wild turkeys walking up the road in no apparent hurry, until my sister came out, then 5 went into flight. They travel in small groups, all hens.
12/30/2013 5:00 AM 1.12 M M M M Not much frozen precip, looks like 0.04 on the table. Winter mosquito buzzed, sputtered by before the rain started. Rain came down heavy enough to be heard through the snow covered roof between 7 and 9PM. Turkeys are doing well, though less chatty than previous days.

Blue Jays have been cashing in on the neighbor's bird feeder, crows are very quiet, 2 woodpeckers knocking on trees, one robin doing robin things. Squirrel seemed contented and didn't have a worry about the hungry birds. BUT THE TURKEYS, not a peep or a feather to be heard.

1/28/2014 5:00 AM T T T M M Minor snowflake activity around noon when the temp was 33°,things cooled off slowly yet successfully to 4.6° by 4 AM, when the temp went UP 2 degrees. The local wild life took a schoolday off. 2 Bluejayus at 12:159sh, lost interest and the tom turkey clucked 3 times. Puss Puss, ( 7 yer old kitten) slept through the whole global warming incident. I was shocked, SHOCKED I tell ya.
1/29/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The turkeys, all 48 decided on taking the backyard route at the bottom of Turkey Hill. 2 of said turkeys couldn't make a decision on how to get past the wire fence....THEN it occurred to them they have wings and could fly over it. Squirrel was about in the afternoon, looking for the few places the leaves were showing. Had a snack, grabbed a mouthful of leaves and went up a tree. Crows were about, but never made any noise. Bluejays made plenty of noise.
1/30/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 2 squirrels had a chase scene this afternoon across the road, but were loud about it. No chase scene music, though. Turkeys came up from the brook across the road, inconvenienced a neighbour trying to drive by.
1/31/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Nothing in the gauge. Not much bird activity aside from the group of bluejays, that were around for 20 minutes. There was a bird, not sure what kind, sounded like a bird of prey, that caught the bluejays' attention, and they swarmed to the trees. Mystery bird silenced, and then everyone headed off to somewhere more interesting.
2/1/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The hen turkeys had a tangle with a critter around 3PM, clucking like mad. The critter (sounded like a racoon) did several yelps, and went off. Not sure if one of our flock fell victim, but the ladies auxillary came running halfway down the hill. Pondered a few minutes as to why they were there and walked back up. Strange day in the world of nature.
2/2/2014 5:00 AM T T T M M Just a few snow flakes, not enough to wet the porch. Only noisy birds were the blue-jays. Rather boring day actually.
2/3/2014 5:00 AM 0.01 M M M M I left the water in the gauge as it wasn't much to experiment, and it did evaporate by the time of this report. Blackbirds and starlings were abound, blue jays for a short while, robins, and cardinals all out ready for spring. Have they got a surprise coming. latest forecast has 8 - 12 inches of snow for Wednesday. Temperatures during such event. temperatures forecast look like this is going to be heavy packing (snowman making) snow. Then there are hints of another winter event Saturday or Sunday. Life in New England couldn't be better, especially if I can avoid the doctor appt Wednesday.
2/4/2014 5:00 AM T T T M M Not a big event at all. Flakes of snow around noon. They melted on contact. Not anywhere as many birds singing as yesterday or doing what birds do,except for the blue jays, who sounded like they scored a big one on something. mountain to thw Southeast was whited out, even though there was little flakes falling. Now onto the 'big event' for Wednesday, which I'd be happy with so I needn't go to the doctor.
2/5/2014 4:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Turkeys took to flying very high into the trees. They also removed several dead branches off said trees. They made quite a flap nesting. The snow for the storm has just started, temp is 27.9, and the wind can be heard in the trees. I'm nesting, myself around 6AM, so we'll see what's happened by noon. Happy Snow Day to all, and to a good night.
2/6/2014 5:00 AM 0.82 9.3 0.82 M M Not really a bad storm. Small flakes, big ones at the end, which is usual. Light fluffy, and nearing the end snowflake shaped ice chips. 2 turkeys raised a fuss, and 1 bluejay.

2/26/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Apologies for the last few days not reporting. Fairpoint Communications failed to communicate they had done an upgrade which did not work for 3 days. It must be global warming/change/cooling, whatever they're calling it to get our tax dollars.
2/27/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We dodged any flurries/squalls. Lucky us, sort of, we didn't dodge the wind. Then she came and sat on me to share the heat. Not enough birds would take flight, I suppose.

3/11/2014 5:00 AM T T T M M Snow flecks again, nothing big, the wind blew it off the table. Turkeys still haven't found the food, but a crow did. Winter mosquito has reappeared.

3/14/2014 5:00 AM M 2.3 0.76 M M Wind blown snow may and likely to be in this reading. Total in the gauge was 2.3". Some of the measure included sleet, which sting when caught in the eye. Make a not of this. (edit: daily precip initially recorded as 0.76". changed to NA due to MDR suspicion. observer will be contacted. P.G.) Only saw one turkey attempting to fly, crashed into a tree across the road with a squawk. From then on she decide ground travel was best.

3/27/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Wind was blowing up a hoolie all day. Upwards of 45-50, and at temp of 31° wind chill was less than spring like. 4/15/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Current report is saying 63 degrees and dew point is 52. We had no rain, no eclipse, but I did hear a chase scene in the back of the house. It might have been a fox on the run, when I put the flashlight on, it veered off and the victim, whatever it was ran past the deck. I found winding up the flashlight makes a noise the wild critters avoid.

7/3/2014 5:00 AM 1.35 M M M M Interesting afternoon, Lots of lightning, heavy rain, and only a 5 MPH wind. Neighbouring communities were dealing with lightning strikes as the big problem. 7/8/2014 5:00 AM 0.49 M M M M One storm line came through at 3PM, which left 0.05" in the gauge, but the dew point went fron 53° to 66° in 20 minutes. 7/29/2014 5:00 AM 1.28 M M M M 1.23 was from the morning storm. Afternoon was more of a lightning show, which was impressive. Once again (8th of the season warning) nothing severe. 8/2/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M As far as I can see, we have 6 hummingbird nesting sites. Meaning 6 grumpy hummingbird males and too many females demanding feeding in their last month before heading south. The males aren't doing their happy dance anymore, just getting involved in a fruitless chase scene.' An hour ago, a portly porcupine went across the new drainage ditch, looking like food was aplenty. It's quills are getting light coloured toward the backside like our Miss Daphne siamese is doing. She's less harmful though.
8/3/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Nothing point nothing in the gauge. I'm reasonable sure we have interloper hummingbirds. No one can get along.
8/4/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Again, no rain. High and mid level clouds. mid 70's. We had higher wind (6MPH) tham Mount Washington (3MPH). Hummingbirds still having the battle. Only need to refill one feeder, as they are utilizing the flowers in the front of the house, but still are annoyed by us going out for a smoke in their battlegrounds. A hummingbird 3 inches from your face is a quick attention getter. I think they are a bit miffed because we don't take flight to spare our well being. less than a month till they begin the migration.
8/5/2014 5:00 AM T M M M M just enough to wet half the driveway trice, other than that..... sun and clould, got to 83 for 10 minutes then the 2nd shower came through and brought it back to 72. No snow, as of yet.
8/6/2014 5:00 AM 0.25 M M M M I just told the cat, (black cat with no tail) I don't carry any cash. Not sure she's convinced. No rain throughout the day, light near all night showers. Our 1 squirrewl didn't show up for roll call, blue-jays were in a pack doing the screeches around 5 PM during the Howie Carr Chumpline. That was annoying. FLEAS, the cats are loaded with them! No matter what we try, they still carry on. The 8 year old kitten is wise to the flea powder I put on her towel on the tv for her bed. Male Hummingbirds are getting more agressive , the males aren't doing their happy dance, just chacing off the ladies. Must be the "month after". A deerr was clever enough to chomp the tiget lilies in the front yard overnight. Last year it munched them aropunf 4PM, then went around the house, and munched the new maple tree growth from the stump. Chickadees, oh the chickadees. They've found the new grass seeded hay layed down for the new drainage ditch.....and the sparrows, starlings.. Only hear 3 lady turkeys on Turkey Hill, the Tom long ago decided it wasn't worth the effort and left. Young porcupine has made only a few cameo appearances, just checking the forementioned ditch. Finally,I'm glad I don't shop at Market Basket.
8/7/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sun again.... Hummingbirds are utilizing the flowers out front of the house. Mainly because the males are chasing the females to the flowers. Toward sunset, the females put the males in their place.

8/9/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M None to report, but the Farmers almanac says the grey squirrels are having their second litter.
8/10/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sun.... hot.... boring..... no snow.....
8/11/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Not one drop of rain, but I have seen a few Persieds, and they were bright, with a full moon. They appear to be in a hurry. Hummingbirds are in full "I hate you" mode. Chase scenes, fowl language, dive bombing. Yup it's near time to migrate. August 28 the Old Farmer's Almanac says. Then we will have the birds from the north of us feeding. I wish them well this winter, and when spring arrives, I will once again, be reminded by an angry male to put the feeders back out.
8/12/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another sunny day. I know, it's getting tiresome. My retnas are near burnt out. WATER, water, we need water. Or snow, I'm not picky. As for the hummingbirds, still nasty as ever, they try the chase scene more than once a day with Mom and me, but there's no need for me to run, since the nasty tempered bees couldn't make me move, the hummingbirds can only swear and call me names I was already called in the 80's.
8/13/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain. Humidity is up and down. Over night stealth mission was a success. The bees with a nest the size of a grapefruit has been rubbed out. Took a whole can of Raid ®, and when that was empty there was alot of buzzing. 4 hours the nest was quiet, but a can of Black Flag ® melted the bottom of thenest and the buzzing had stopped. They had built a nest inside a nest. Also took care of 4 hornet nests next to the offending bees. The hummingbirds can feast again. It turned out the bees were chasing the hummingbirds off. I won't have that behavior, especially when the hummingbirds need to feed before migration late this month.
8/14/2014 5:00 AM 1.75 M M M M Hummingbirds weren't put off by the rain or occasional lightning. They stayed close to the feeders and flowers at the front of the house. Life just went on for them, scrapping and chasing. Oh, and my umbrella crapped out today, won't open. More money needed to be spent, that I don't have.
8/15/2014 5:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Light overnight showers.

8/17/2014 5:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Wee showers, stars are out. Hummingbirds are still nasty as ever, but it looks like migration has begun. The group is smaller.
8/18/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Not a drop or water, but noticeable drop in the hummingbird population. Looks like the migration has begun.

8/21/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M None to report. Looks like the migrating hummingbirds are passing through and a flock/skein/gaggle of geese took an early morning trip. I'm thinking we might have snow this winter.
8/22/2014 5:00 AM 0.51 M M M M just light off and on showers, no lightning wind or anything fun. Good bit was the sun wasn't glaring. The Old Farmer's Almanac ( from Dublin, NH), should be out soon. Frosty winter it's saying.
8/23/2014 5:00 AM 0.18 M M M M The end of the deluge. It looks like the lady hummingbirds are the first to go. The males are sitting on branches waiting for someone to attack, but no one's available most of the day.
8/24/2014 5:00 AM T M M M M It happened when I was snoozing. Looks like fog drizzle.

9/3/2014 5:00 AM 1.09 M M M M The first 0.84 showed uo at 1PM and lasted 25 minutes, the rest was late night showers fading out. No wind, no flooding, and the crickets kept right on doing cricket things.

9/13/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Nothing, not a thing. As faar as can be discerned 2 hummingbirds, travelers, and two pair of Canada geese overnight. I heard one duck, it did echo, so the myth is a myth only.
9/14/2014 5:00 AM 0.34 M M M M Down to one hummingbird. Canadian honkers are heading south, and a duck.
9/15/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M It looks like this week's end will be the last day for the last hummingbird feeder to be out. Only 2 visitors and they only did 2 visits. We wish them well this winter and look forward to them revisiting the Granite State next spring.
9/16/2014 5:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Nothing big for rain as of yet, But within an hour reds on radar will be passing through.

9/19/2014 5:00 AM T M M M M 3 minute shower in the afternoon. still one hummingbird, a traveler. Not sure if I should keep the feeder out, as the others only stayed for 3 days. She has a white bib, and is looking for others to chase, but there are none.
9/20/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Barely a cloud to be seen. the store owner's wife said to leave the hummingbird feeder out, the last bird will know when to leave. So we will.
9/21/2014 5:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M One hummingbird visited once. The 2 bumble bees don't seem to be put off by the low temps in the mid 30's for the last 2 night. They were working weekend, so obviously time and a half.
9/22/2014 5:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Light showers in the morning, same at night. questioning if the last Lady of the Hummingbirds is still about.
