Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/1/2013 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny, 52° 24hr: 47/66° 2013 September total = 1.71" vs 6.44" in 2012. Amazing how dry NJ can be in September when we don't have tropical systems blowing through. Now, I hope we get some serious frosts so the leaves start falling --BEFORE the snow starts!
10/2/2013 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Hazy sun, 60° w/moderate dew. 24hr: 50/70° Dry weather continues; needing to Fall transplants and new, establishing plants, shrubs.
10/3/2013 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Partly cloudy with some hazy sun peeking through, 57° with moderate dew. 24hr: 51/74° Continue to hear the song of Carolina wrens; seems like they'll be wintering over here again. Nice to hear birdsong in additional to the usual buzz of insects at this time of year.
10/4/2013 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cloudy, 57° with dew. 24hr: 54/69° Late yesterday it became quite overcast but no rain fell. I hope when it does rain it starts gently, because the ground is so bone dry a heavy rain would mostly run-off. It's badly needed.
10/5/2013 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Foggy, 59° 24hr: 57/77° Finally something to measure in the gauge! Thought we were going to get rain @ 3:30pm, with two rolls of thunder from the north and a few large raindrops. But it just missed us; a half mile down the road there were puddles in the road.
10/6/2013 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Foggy, 61° 24hr: 59/73° Not sure when this rain happened. Areas under our large trees are dry; large drops were falling out of the canopy on my way to the gauge this morning.
10/7/2013 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Windy, warm & humid, 65° 24hr: 61/65° Misty and foggy all day yesterday. Heck of a day to be doing Fall yard clean-up!
10/8/2013 8:00 AM 0.63 M M M M Sunny, 50° 24hr: 46/68° Was going across the county between 2 - 2:30pm and some cars were actually pulling over because of the driving rain, fierce winds, and swirling leaves. Very impressive dark skies, too.
10/9/2013 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Hazy sun, heavy dew, 45° 24hr: 43/61° Into the second week of October and still harvesting pole beans, tomatoes, etc. Most unusual Fall!
10/10/2013 8:45 AM 0.01 M M M M It had just started to rain before my (slightly belated) Obs time of 8:45am. 48° 24hr: 48/56° We can certainly use more rain.
10/11/2013 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Overcast, 53° 24hr: 48/55° Only 0.02" to show for a gray, misty day yesterday; most of it occurred in a brief period just after yesterday's reading.
10/12/2013 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Mostly cloudy, 52° 24hr: 50/67° All that gray and misting and only another 0.02"!
10/13/2013 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cloudy, breezy, 50° 24hr: 50/66° How strange is this October? On 10/13/13 choruses of crickets at night; and birdsong at daybreak!
10/14/2013 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cloudy, 48° with moderate dew. 24hr: 44/68° A few peaks of blue sky beginning to open up on the NE horizon.

Because it mostly stayed snow; only 0.2" ice on top at the very end and by then the wind had blown all the snow out of the trees and off the power lines. Merry Christmas. It was already snowing when we got up yesterday at 7am. Measuring today was a challenge due to all the drifting. I'm reporting the melted values from the board and the "representative" core as the same, as the snow had badly drifted up over the snowboard and that clearly wasn't "real." The snowfall reported is a average that varied over ten inches across the yard. Summer readings are going to be a breeze!

1/15/2014 8:00 AM 0.48 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Sunny, 29° with frost. 24hr: 28/42° I don't think any of the precipitation fell as anything other than rain, although we noticed this morning that the town had salted the roads overnight.
1/16/2014 8:00 AM 0.08 0.2 0.02 T M Overcast, 32° 24hr: 29/43° Came home at 10pm through mist/fog and relatively warm temps; woke up to a new covering of snow. Now beginning to melt on slate and patio, but not lawns yet.
1/17/2014 8:00 AM T T M T M Cloudy, 31° 24hr: 21/33° The "T" occurred with a few batches of snow flurries that passed through yesterday morning, amounted to 2 drops from the gauge. Snowcover remains from the snow the day before, on most of the ground and in pine trees.
1/18/2014 7:30 AM T T M T M Light snow, 30° 24hr: 28/41° A fresh "sugar dusting" on everything.
1/19/2014 8:00 AM 0.08 1.5 0.08 1.0 M Mostly cloudy, 19° 24hr: 19/35° The light dusting I reported at 7:30am yesterday changed dramatically right after the TOR. Heavy snow and bad roads combined driving across the county. Even the main roads were in terrible shape. By the time I got home from NYC all the roads were bare and dry & only 0.8" of snow remained.
1/20/2014 8:00 AM T T 0.00 0.5 M Overcast, 32° 24hr: 18/32° Interesting: the minimum was yesterday a.m.'s reset and the maximum is the current temperature. The "T" occurred with a band of moderate snowfall yesterday very late morning. Nothing in the gauge at TOR.
1/21/2014 8:00 AM 0.01 T M 0.5 M Overcast, 18° 24hr: 17/36° Some very light snow early last evening left another light dusting and barely 0.01" in the gauge. Very fine snow started here just before 9am this morning.
1/22/2014 8:00 AM 0.27 2.5 0.28 3.0 M Sunny, calm, -3° 24hr: -3/18° Lack of wind resulted in no drifting, so measurements were ~ all over yard. Perfect powder, the kind that "squeaks" when walking on it with boots.

1/26/2014 8:00 AM 0.09 1.2 0.10 3.5 M Sunny, 9° 24hr: 8/22° Extremely fine snow most of yesterday amounted to little in the gauge or snowboard. Board is frozen to the ground; will try and free it up later today.
1/27/2014 7:20 AM T T T 3.5 M Overcast, 29° 24hr: 9/29° Yesterday afternoon just before the snow moved in, a flock of robins feasted on the red berries we had in the greens of the Christmas window boxes, planters and hayrack. 11 robins first cleaned out the bunches of red rose hips from a field rugosa rose and then the Japanese barberries.
1/28/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 3.0 M Partly cloudy, 7° 24hr: 5/38°
1/29/2014 8:00 AM T T M 3.0 M Sunny, 7° 24hr: 6/17° The barest of dustings didn't even result in a drop of precip once the gauge was defrosted.
1/30/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.5 M Sunny, 3° 24hr: 3/23° Getting harder to find undisturbed areas of the yard to take snow depth readings. But things are looking up: the seed orders for the 2014 garden sent in yesterday!
1/31/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.5 M Overcast, 21° 24hr: 3 [yesterday a.m.'s reset] /31° Total precip for January = 3.43"; total new snow = 10.6" Six days with below zero temps.
2/1/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.0 M Mostly sunny, 24° 24hr: 20/35° Paths and walkways are widening although the snowpack remains everywhere else. Birdsong every morning now.
2/2/2014 7:30 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.0 M Partly cloudy, 31° 24hr: 24/43° In well traveled areas of the snowpack footprints are beginning to show through. Took advantage of the warmer temps to prune clematises and buddlias. Saw a shrew scurry next to the pond!
2/3/2014 8:00 AM 0.25 2.5 0.26 3.5 M Snowing, 28° 24hr: 28/45° Yesterday's warmer temps were making a dent in the snowpack; still 100% coverage, but average depth ~ 1". Average depth this morning = 3.3"
2/4/2014 8:00 AM 0.39 3.8 0.39 7.0 M Mostly sunny, with high, thin clouds, 10° 24hr: 8/35° All snow event; the two day snow total = 6.3" These are the kinds of winters that make me happy that we recently got a metal roof -no ice dams!
2/5/2014 8:00 AM 1.08 5.5 1.01 9.5 M Freezing rain w/occasional sleet, 28° 24hr: 13 [yesterday am's reset] /37° By TOR there was already 1/4" of ice on top of the snow. Moderate drifting made measuring more difficult; reported 9.5 in an average of the samplings. Had to push open the kitchen door to get readings because of a drift of snow was piled against it.
2/6/2014 8:00 AM 0.19 T M 9.0 M Mostly sunny, 15° 24hr: 12/32° A dusting of new snow on top of the ice layer on top of the underlaying snow layer made it very hard to punch through and get an accurate snow depth, even using the pointed edge of my metal ruler. At 6pm last night I pulled a plug out of the snowpack and the surface ice layer = 0.4" Ice completely encapsuated the gauge inside and out this morning. Crust was ALMOST enough to hold my weight, so it took a "stomp/step" to walk. Our 50lb dog can run (or more accurately: slip-slide) on the surface without falling through.
2/7/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 8.5 M Sunny, 17° 24hr: 13/31° Birdsong getting stronger...
2/8/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 8.0 M Partly cloudy, 14° 24hr: 10/38° Used a screwdriver with a hammer to make a slit into the top crust, in order to slide the metal ruler down into the snowpack; only took one sample: 8"
2/9/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 8.0 M Mostly cloudy, 16° 24hr: 8/27° Found that the blade of an ice-chopper is much better at slicing through that top layer of ice to measure snow depth; beats the screw-driver and hammer I'd been using! Birdsong more numerous...
2/10/2014 8:00 AM 0.12 1.4 0.13 9.0 M Sunny, with high, thin clouds, 14° 24hr: 12/30° Began clearing pathways through the snow to allow the inevitable "rain on snow" event at some point in our future to have somewhere to run off besides into the basement! Once through the top crust, the snow pack was remarkably soft all the way to the ground.
2/11/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 9.0 M Sunny, 11° 24hr: 3/31° A lone robin hopping around inside a holly tree, but most of the red berries have been picked clean by earlier foragers.
2/12/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 9.0 M Sunny, 2° with frost. 24hr: 3 below zero/31° Snowpack remains steady at 9.2" -due to the difficulty of getting through the ice crust I'm not taking several readings & reporting the average as ususal. Just picking one place where the snow is not drifted, nor wind-blown, punching a slit with the ice chopper, and inserting the metal ruler through that.
2/13/2014 8:00 AM 0.21 1.6 0.20 10.5 M Snowing, 21° (20° warmer than yesterday's TOR) 24hr: 2 [yesterday a.m.'s reset] /28° Took down window boxes that were under an impressive accumulation of ice and snow above them on the roof; when snowloads release from the metal roof it is extremely powerful. The first winter we had this roof it pulverized one of the window boxes on the way down! This year's accumulation is far worse.
2/14/2014 8:00 AM 1.93 12.3 1.74 21.5 M Sunny, 29° 24hr: 21/29° Emptied the gauge at 4pm during the "break" in the two parts of this storm, when the snow was getting to the top (0.89) plus this morning's TOR (1.04) for a total of 1.93 in this 24hr period. 2-day storm total = 13.9" Sent in a SW report yesterday morning when we got 5.2" of snow in a two hour period. A big difference between the melted values of the gauge vs. board; also, promoted to a metal yardstick instead of the 12" ruler I've been using. This snow was layered: 8" of snow, then almost 3/4" of ice, topped with 3.5" of snow. Thank God the power didn't fail!
2/15/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 19.5 M Overcast, 29° 24hr: 21/40° Saw yesterday that the weight of the recent snow broke one of the panes of glass in our SunShed. "Broke" is too mild a word: the glass exploded into small fragments and poured inside! And this was after cleaning off all the prior snows from the SunShed immediately before this last snow! Geez...
2/16/2014 8:00 AM 0.23 2.9 0.25 23.0 M Cloudy, 14° 24hr: 13/35° After seeing what the weight of the snow did to the SunShed glass, yesterday we dragged out a ladder and the snow-rake, to pull as much of the snowload off the roof as possible. Man! It was heavy! And with the new snow, we'll be doing it again today...
2/17/2014 8:00 AM 0.01 0.2 0.01 21.0 4.92 Sunny, 10° 24hr: 8/28° Used the same melted value as the gauge for the board, because I needed the 1lb coffee can to try and chip through the two ice layers of the snowpack (21"). Took 3 "borings" to get to the bottom, having to step on the can to drive it through the really thick ice layer approx 8" down. Emptied each full can into a large stock pot as I went along, to melt fairly easily on the stove. Melted content filled the inner measuring tube SIX times! Sure hope this is gone by next Monday! But not TOO quickly. Pulled more snow off the roof again today in anticipation of rain on the snow.
2/18/2014 8:00 AM 0.07 1.0 0.07 21.0 M Snowing, 23° 24hr: 11 [yesterday a.m.'s reset] /44° The snowpack is remaining distinctly layered: one layer of ice 6" down, and another, really thick and hard to get through layer 12" down. Lots of drifting; sample depths from 19.5" - 23. 5" Was surprised yesterdays SWE was as high as it was (4.92"). Hoping for a slow, gentle melt!!
2/19/2014 8:00 AM 0.06 0.7 0.60 21.5 M Cloudy, 30° 24hr: 15/39° The precip in the gauge this morning was a thin disk of ice: all of yesterday's snow had melted during the day and froze overnight. First "snow-less gauge" in a long time...
2/20/2014 8:00 AM 0.38 0.0 M 19.0 M Sunny, 29° 24hr: 25/40° Heavy rain yesterday between 10am & noon reduced the snowpack from 21" to 19". An all rain event.
2/21/2014 8:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 17.5 M Either drizzling or drops falling from the trees, 34° 24hr: 27/49° Pea-soup thick fog overnight, by cleared by TOR. Snowpack is no longer solid, but gives way with each step. A brief shower observed around 5pm yesterday, but otherwise a slow easy melt-off. So far.
2/22/2014 8:00 AM 0.33 0.0 M 16.0 M Sunny, 35° 24hr: 31/40° Paths were sheets of ice this morning as the melt froze overnight. But the precip in the gauge was liquid. Snowpack is giving up slowly: even with the rain (and lightning and thunder) it's melted another 1.5" -down to 16". Strong birdsong...
2/23/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 13.0 M Mostly cloudy, 37° 24hr: 28/52° We dug a trench for the fuel oil delivery man to get to the house & will use the side of that trench from here on to measure snow depth. Even using the corner of our metal yardstick it was not possible to get through; and the snow is deeper than my longest screwdriver, which is what I' used before (chieseling holes in the snowpack with a hammer and screwdriver.) The poor old coffee can is going to get a workout trying to get the SWE!
2/24/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 10.5 4.15 Sunny, 28° 24hr: 25/49° Back to being able to walk on top of the snowpack; frozen solid. Getting the SWE required: my trusty 1lb metal coffee can; a hammer to drive the inverted can through the 10.5" tapping persistently around the edges so it would collect a straight core; a paint scraper to slide under the can; a pasta pot to collect the multiple drillings; a strainer; a 4-cup Pyrex measurer; and five readings with the inner tube! The total: 4.15" is .77" less than last Monday, but still an awful lot of water content out there.
2/25/2014 8:00 AM T T M 10.5 M Snowing ... again. 18° 24hr: 12/35° No reduction in snow pack during the past 24hrs. I am so grateful that the Philly Flower Show is this weekend!
2/26/2014 8:00 AM T T M 10.5 M Overcast, 21° 24hr: 11/32° Snowpack holding at 10.5" On and off snow flurries all yesterday morning with a few in the afternoon too. After taking this morning's reading, while writing up the report, a few fine snowflakes began to fall -yet again.
2/27/2014 8:00 AM T T M 10.5 M Mostly sunny, 18° 24hr: 3/29° This report feels like I'm stuck in the movie Groundhog Day --same report all week! On and off flurries most of yesterday with a few snow squalls tossed in. This morning there was a dusting on one side of the bottom of the gauge.
2/28/2014 8:00 AM T T M 10.5 M Sunny, 5° 24hr: 1/31° Same as the rest of the week: snow flurries with a few intense snow squalls yesterday. Total precip for Feb: 5.26" Total snowfall: 31.9" A memorable winter; and it's not over yet...
3/1/2014 6:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M 10.0 M Clear, 2° 24hr: 1/28° Welcome First Month of Spring! Reporting earlier than usual because I'm off to the Philadelphia Flower Show. Before the next snowstorm...
3/2/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 10.0 M Overcast, 31° 24hr: 2 [yesterday a.m.'s reset] /39° Getting over freezing here yesterday did nothing to reduce the snowpack, holding at 10". The Philly Flower Show was a pure joy! So much color after such a monochromatic winter.
3/3/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 10.0 3.82 Cloudy, 15° with the sun faintly shining through the clouds in the east. 24hr: 12/39° Was curious about the difference in SWE since last Monday, so I drilled the sample yesterday at 1pm, before the new "storm." We didn't get a flake! A week ago the SWE = 4.15"; it is now 3.82" despite the depth of snow remaining steady. I don't understand how it can be 0.33" less while the depth of the snowpack remains 10.0" (although we can see some loss of snow in areas of paths which are widening).
3/4/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 10.0 M Cloudy, 11° 24hr: 3/20° Two different sitings of robins yesterday. Spring IS coming....
3/5/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 10.0 M Mostly cloudy, 23° 24hr: 11 [yesterday a.m.'s reset] /32° Really. I feel like I'm in the movie Groundhog Day; this report hasn't changed in days! I did see the first chipmunk out and about on the snowpack yesterday. My gardening nemesis survived the severe winter nicely...
3/6/2014 8:00 AM T T M 10.0 M Sunny, 12° 24hr: 8/35° Was very surprised to see a tiny drift of snow on one side of the bottom of the gauge this morning. I didn't think we'd had snow in the last 24hrs. Also amazed at how stubbornly the snowpack is holding on: 100% coverage, average of 10.0".
3/7/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 10.0 M Cloudy, 24° 24hrs: 12 [yesterday a.m.'s reset] /36° Louder birdsong yesterday and SpringFest Garden Show next week. Spring WILL come!
3/8/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 10.0 M Mostly sunny, 29° 24hr: 24/41° Despite yesterday's beautiful day, the snow pack stubbornly remains @ 10.0" with 100% coverage. Only the paths continue to widen.
3/9/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 9.5 M Partly cloudy, 31° 24hr: 29/53° Came home yesterday to little rivulets of meltwater running out from the snowpack. This morning there was finally a dent in snow depth: from 10.0 - 9.5" Will try and chisel out the week's SWE later this afternoon to report tomorrow.
3/10/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 9.5 3.78 Cloudy, 34° 24hr: 28/43° Reporting late after being able to take the core SWE at 2pm. Last Monday SWE = 3.82"; today = 3.78".
3/11/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 9.0 M Sunny, beautiful morning, 42° 24hr: 34 [yesterday a.m.'s reset] /50° Snowpack reduced by 1/2" yesterday. Down to 9.0 with 100% coverage.
3/12/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 7.5 M Overcast, 35° 24hr: 34/62° Slow, gentle melt-off yesterday; the largest maple have a circle of melted snow around the base of the trunks and each had 3/4" standing melt water. Huge mixed flock of red-winged blackbirds, grackels, and starling through the neighborhood this morning. Snowpack lost 1.5"
3/13/2014 8:00 AM 0.29 0.0 M 5.5 M Overcast, 12° 24hr: 11/51° It seemed to be an all-rain event here, although getting home between 9:30 & 10pm it did sound as though sleet was mixing in. Despite sitting inside of 5.5" 'wells' of frozen snow/ice, our recycling can was knocked over and bottles were blown all over the yard. First day of SpringFest at the S.C. Fairgrounds!
3/14/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 5.0 M Overcast, 14° 24hr: 10/26° A large red-tailed hawk high in the canopy, not silently scoping out our birdfeeder as usual, but calling loudly. Maybe a red-tail nest is in our future this Spring!
3/15/2014 8:00 AM T 0.0 M 5.0 M Cloudy, 40° 24hr: 14/44° Yesterday shoveled off one of the raised beds to speed warming of the soil for some of the early sowings & started up the first bank of lights for indoor seed starting.
3/16/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 4.0 M Sunny, with some high, thin clouds, 23° 24hr: 22/53° Shoveled the snow off the pond bubbler and thankfully, it had successfully kept a tiny hole open in the ice, buried under all of the snow & ice. Was worried about extreme fish mortality in the Spring with this winter being too much for the tiny bubbler. But the thick insulating layer of snow/ice seems to have helped.
3/17/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 4.0 M Overcast, 16° 24hr: 15/33° Not a drop of precip. Failed to capture the SWE this time; trying to tap the metal 1lb coffee can into the snow/icepack with a hammer broke the can!! It's certainly taken a pounding this winter!
3/18/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 4.0 M Sunny, 21° 24hr: 15/35° 100% snow coverage continues, although paths continue to widen, as do the circles around the base of our largest trees.
3/19/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 4.0 M Overcast, 29° 24hr: 21/45° Despite a dry March (only a single day with measurable precip of 0.29) the well of the sump pump is half full from snowmelt only. The marshlands on either side of Route 23 are filling up close to the roadway on both sides of the highway.
3/20/2014 8:00 AM 0.83 0.0 M 3.5 M Overcast, 35° 24hr: 29/38° Began late morning as sleet and quickly changed to all rain. 100% snowpack tenaciously hanging on. Water in the basement subpump is right up to the rim, but not yet on.
3/21/2014 8:00 AM T 0.0 M 2.0 M Partly cloudy, 36° 24hr: 31/50° Finally, some grass visible at the bottom of footprints across an unused part of the yard. But still need Yak-Trax to walk on the compacted snow/ice on the path to the gauge. Yesterday afternoon I could get the point of the metal ruler into the snowpack & get multiple samples; snow depth ranges from 0.75" to 5.2" -reporting 2.0"
3/22/2014 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 1.0 M Overcast, 31° 24hr: 27/48° Through the small hole in the ice that the bubbler has kept open I was able to "muck out" two dead frogs and the beautiful, large, white koi with the small net. Once the ice is off entirely I hope there are not others that did not survive this winter...
3/23/2014 8:00 AM T 0.0 M T M Cloudy, 32° 24hr: 31/59° A brief line of showers passed through yesterday late morning; while outside heard flock after flock of geese overhead, flying north. Snowcover is down to approx. 60% so I'm reporting "T" even though the places where it remains (the back/north side of the house) is approx. 2' deep, enough to hide the kayak stored back there.
3/24/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M Sunny, 19° 24hr: 14/36° Never had the pond de-icing bubbler going this long in Spring. Next to the pond, underneath a birdfeeder, the black sunflower seeds shells had warmed a circle in the snow. As the snow retreats from that circle, large swaths of blooming snowdrops are being revealed at the edge of the snow/open area.
3/25/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M Partly cloudy, 22° 24hr: 13/34°
3/26/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M Mostly sunny, windy, 24° 24hr: 22/39° Ignoring the snow that had been plowed or shoveled, there is still approx. 25% natural snow cover left. Multiple flocks of red-winged blackbirds. Maple sap running: appearing on car windshields.
3/27/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M Sunny, 17° 24hr: 15/32° Thankfully the wind has died down. It was roaring yesterday & knocked the windsock down so many times I gave up and brought it inside. Gust of 38.2 recorded at 3:59pm.
3/28/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M Overcast, 39° 24hr: 17 [yesterday a.m.'s reset] /44° Still a "T" of snowcover in unshoveled/unplowed areas of the yard. The snowboard is sitting on top of 2.4"; it is still impossible to see the kayak stored behind the house, it is under so much snow/ice. But 3/4 of the yard is now open ground.
3/29/2014 8:00 AM 0.06 0.0 M T M Overcast, 38° 24hr: 37/50° Very light rain/drizzle on and off for most of the day yesterday.
3/30/2014 8:00 AM 1.73 0.0 M 0.0 M Overcast, 38° 24hr: 38/45° Both sump pumps are pumping hard. Only snow left is in deepest shade or shoveled/plowed, so after a week of "T"+ I'm reporting zero.
3/31/2014 8:00 AM 0.49 0.0 M 0.0 M Overcast, 32° 24hr: 31/41° By the few ice pellets on the windshield this morning, it must have ended here with some sleet. Wow! This morning's radar looks impressive for costal locations; our two sump pumps are just beginning to slow down. Total March = 3.40" on frozen ground.
4/1/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny, 30° with frost on the gauge. 24hr: 27/52° A few piles of snow/ice remain, mostly in the shade of large pines and rockwalls. Lots of birdsong.

Right now only snowdrops, crocus, and glory-of-the-snow fill the garden. The tops of perennials are beginning to poke out of the ground. And Tuesday we have possible snow forecast!
4/15/2014 8:00 AM 0.02 0.0 M M M Very light drizzle, 59° 24hr: 58/77° Forsythia are right at the brink of blooming. Normally put away the snowboard on April 15th, but will leave it out with tonite's forecast.
4/16/2014 8:00 AM 1.92 0.3 M T M Sunny, with a few fast moving clouds from the NW, 26° 24hr: 24/61° A delta of 33° between yesterday's a.m. temp & today! 8:30pm rain changed to sleet and quickly to snow, covering everything. This morning there is 0.3" of snow on all non-paved surfaces, so reported "T" for snow on ground. Glad I didn't have the inner cylinder back in! The gauge was a solid cylinder of ice; had to melt the sides/bottom and carefully pour the block into a 4c. pyrex measuring cup to microwave to get the liquid reading. All garden beds covered last night & heat cable running in the lettuce/shallot bed. Looks like tonite, too.

Realized that 2.82" of that rain came with the multi-day storm that came through 7/14, so the second half of July was indeed dry.
