Rain, some freezing and heavy at times, fell overnight, mostly after midnight, and was mixed with sleet and maybe a little snow during the first hour. Glaze ice accretion reached approx 0.3 inch, combined with a coating of sleet produced a new snow/sleet/ice accumulation of about a half inch. However, it beat down the snowpack from Monday's snowstorm a couple of inches. Rain fell heavily enough that most of it did not freeze even with temperatures around 30 but instead soaked into snowpack or ponded in streets, flooding some to depths dangerous for safe passage. Temperatures have climbed to slightly above freezing since daybreak. However, trees were still heavily laden with snow from Monday's snowstorm such that absorption of rain has added additional weight and has been resulting in widespread tree damage, especially conifer trees, and scattered power outages.
