There were scattered patches of snow on the surfaces of cars and rooftops. 0.02" of liquid had collected in the bottom of measuring tube, along with a small amount of of snow/frozen rain in the opening of the gauge funnel. Both funnel and tube were brought indoors and placed near the coffee maker to expose it to radiant heat to reach the final total of precipitation.

In fact, it was one of those classic Midwestern summer days: hot in the sun, cool in the shade, nice steady breeze, and the puffy clouds (cumulus?) float across the blue sky all day. The two previous days were very similar. A menacing front started encroaching from the Northwest, appearing in the distance around noon. By 3pm skies had become lightly overcast. This passed and by 6pm Summer was back on, with scattered clouds, the breeze, and relatively low humidity. Even the mosquitoes weren't much of a factor. That's about as good as it gets. |

Measurement based on physical observation. Was working at site and stray droplets were felt. Calling these occurrences droplets is actually an overstatement, it was concentrated moisture. Very sporadic, occasionally rare throughout the day. Heavy cloud cover all day, it was dark like it wanted to rain but never did. Several instances where the sun appeared to almost break through. Light winds and cool temps. |

During the observation period: Based on personal observation the following occurrences were observed; there was some sunshine early, becoming cloudy by 10:30am; a few stray drops fell around 1:20pm; again around 2:45pm; then from around 4:15pm to about 6:45pm it sprinkled lightly on and off. From that point until 9pm there was no precipitation. Awoke to steady rain and thunder. |

Overcast until around 5:30pm. Clear sky for the lunar eclipse. What looked to be frontal movement moved in as clouds obscured the eclipse at almost the exact moment the shadow completely covered the moon, literally seconds after the penumbra disappeared. At 9:25pm, this cloud front cleared, the tailing end more sharply defined than the frontside, revealing the full lunar eclipse. Sky was clear for the remainder of the eclipse. Temperature was comfortably cool throughout the observation period, light dew at time of observation. |
