Rain began very lightly at 1540, then became very heavy at 1555 with strong winds. Hail lasted for about 2 minutes, with the largest collected being 12mm. Lightning could be seen in the SW and SSW about a mile away (counted 5 sec/mile). The heavy rain stopped rather abruptly at 1617 with the sun appearing in the west. Maximum wind speed was 10.7 MPH with the fastest gust of 16.7 MPH. The average wind speed during this period was 3.4 MPH with a range of 1.8MPH to 10.7MPH. The rain measured 0.33" in a CoCoRaHS rain gauge and my LaCrosse WS2813 weather station. |

One 3 inch tree limb fell down on White's Ferry Road. River Road and the fields showed fast water drainage of 1-2 inches deep. Thunder and lightning occurred but no sign of a tornado, as a NWS warning indicated to "take cover". |

At 1746 there was thunder, then the heaviest of rain began till 1749 (3 min). At 1753 lighting was seen at less than 1 mile to the WNW. I could see the mountains due west (3.5 mi) but the mountains WNW were not seen due to the heavy rain. At 1700 there were very dark clouds due N. At 1755 lights flickered several times in 5 min, but the generator did not come on. At 1803 high wind and very heavy rain began again and lasted for ___ min. At 1804 there were several lightning strikes WSW about 0.5 mi away. It was still raining very heavily. At 1806 there was lightning overhead and at 1807 the lights went out for good. It was still raining heavily. There was flooding over the farm fields and River Road was flooded with water moving W toward the drainage stream. At 1833 began to see the mountains due W with addition clearing at 1835. The heaviest of rain subsided. At 1840 the sun came out in the W and the rain stopped. Rained measured for this period at 1.01" at 1858. A light rain began 1859 and lasted for about 5 minutes, giving an additional 0.01". WIND: Greatest wind was 20.8 mph from N at 1750 with gusts of 32.9 mph at 1750 from NNW and 34.2 mph from WNW at 1805. |

The information below is per my WS-2813 weather station. Rains began at 0210 on 6/27, recording 0.01" every few hours. Steady and continuous rain occurred between 0545 and 0725. The greatest amount that fell was 0.10" at 1400-1405, then 0.21" between 1410 and 1415. The greatest wind was 10.5MPH at 1030 ESE. The greatest gusts were: 13.6MPH ENE @0910; 12.3MPH NNE at 1030 and 1820. There were gusts of 11MPH: at 0700MPH SSE; 0705MPH SE; 0840MPH SE; 1145MPH ESE; 1600MPH NNE; 1750MPH NE; 1755MPH NNW. The highest sustained winds were between 0830 and 0840: 7.4 ESE w/gusts 9.6MPH; 7.6 ENE w/gusts 9.6MPH; and 8.1 SE w/gusts 11MPH. The initial increase in winds began at 0545 for 5.1 MPH from 1.3MPH and this kept up till about 0705 when winds died down to about 1-3 MPH. During the day the winds would pick up to about 4-5 MPH for about 5 minutes then drop back. |

At 2005 on 7/28/15, rain came down in very heavy drops. It reminded me of what would happen if hail melted before it hit Earth. Then I got hit with a small ice pellet. So my question was answered, namely that the rain was melted/melting hail. The clouds overhead and toward the east were turbulent and dark. The temperature dropped quickly, so I began looking for mixing of clouds. None was seen. The rain stopped at 2018. There was no evidence of water in the CoCoRaHS or my weather station rain gauges. Overhead the dark clouds moved NE to SW. Above the these dark clouds, white clouds moved from E to W. |

The storm began at 0423. It was directly overhead with lots of lightening and thunder. The thunder clashes were too fast and numerous to count. At 0425 the wind speed was recorded on a LaCrosse weather station WS-2318 at 11.9 MPH with a gust of 17.9 MPH for the same time period (0425-0430) WNW. Also at this time period the most intense rain came down recording 0.10". BTW, the CoCoRaHS and weather station rain gauges measured the same. The storm was pretty furotious during the early morning hours. We were awoken around 0300 by a lightening crash and thunder directly overhead. No tree limbs down. It rained heavily. During the afternoon there were two periods when it rained a T. First at 1650-1655 there was a dark cloud directly overhead, then at 2010 there were many dark clouds all over. It also was only a T. My LaCrosse WS-2813 weather station did not pick up this rain. The first indication of rain at the WS-2813 was 2150 to 2215. Then there were recordings at the WS-2813 of 0.01" at 0015, 0100 and 0125. The bulk of the collection was between 0225 and 0225. Because of the thunderstorm, I lost communication between the outdoor transmitter in the equipment and the base station until I reset it at 0625. At that time it recorded anther 0.19". The weather station recorded a total of 0.77". Due to the inability of the tipping with the intensity of the rain for the WS-2813, this rain gauge malfunctioned. |

There were high cirrus clouds from the northeast to northwest and southeast to southwest, but there were none due east, due west and none overhead at the reporting time of 0700. |

Yesterday about 1330 There was thunder coming from across the Potomac River. By 1500 the thunder was overhead. This did not produce any precipitation. However, at 1741 it rained a few drops now and then until 1803. There was no collected rain in the rain gauge. There was fog this morning. |

It remains cloudy and more precipitation is expected for this area today. Rain began sometime around 0500 or later. Yesterday at 1449 while I was in Poolesville, MD, which is less than 10 miles away. It rained a bit. It continued to drizzle to within two miles of our farm, where it was totally dry without any sign of precipitation on the ground in the the rain gauge. An interesting occurence happens out here. Long time farmers and now we observed that frequently it may rain a couple miles away from here towards Poolesville or Martinsburg, MD, but not out here. Are we too close to the river or is it the mountains? |

This is the most rain I've seen since we've lived out here. There was major flooding during the night on River Road leading to White's Ferry Road due to observing conditions on the road and water damage at driveways and fields. The gravel on River Road is badly torn up. Flooding is due to the water from farmers' fields. There are no trees down and White's Ferry is still in operation. However, as more water comes down the river today and the next several days and as it rains more, the ferry will probably close due to high water. I'll report on the high water at the ferry when I can. There are no trees down in my immediate vicinity. We lost power between 2035 and 2340 yesterday. Rain began very lightly at 1348 and at 1426 its rate increased at bit. The WS-2318 weather station recorded the first rain at 1505, 0.02". Between 1505 and 1750 the WS gauge recorded a 0.20" of rain. At this point the rain rate was about 0.01-0.06" every five minutes. Heavier rain began at 2005. At 2015 rain in the WS gauge was 2.5"; at 2115 it was 4.40"; and at 2155 it was 5.91" when the rain virtually stopped. (This recording is relative in that the total amount of rain in the WS gauge at 0655 this morning was 5.93", whereas the CoCoRaHS gauge was 6.51". The greatest amount of rainfall in a 5-minute period was 0.78" at 2125. Since it rained so hard the WS station gauge tilt pan could not keep up with the intensity. The last recorded rain in the WS was 0.02" for the 5-minute period at 2150-2155. The last 0.01" of rain was recorded by the WS gauge at 0010, 09/30/15. As of this report, there is still a very light rain coming down. |
