5/11/2015 6:36 PM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 DISCUSSION: The biggest threat with any storms today/tonight will be vivid lightning, heavy rainfall, strong winds, and even a little bit of small hail. The storm threat will linger through the overnight hours with muggy air continuing to remain in place. Overnight lows once again will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s before the front crosses Tuesday morning. A secondary cold front will follow the first one late Tuesday morning leaving the concern for a shower or two. Highs will be in the 70s with reduced humidity values by the afternoon where things look to be a lot more comfortable as the sunshine returns. Much needed relief and cooler air returns on Wednesday. We will be dry and sunny, but highs will only make it into the mid to upper 60s. This is typical for this time of year, but after the summer-like stretch we just saw, you will notice a chill in the air. We are back in the 70s on Thursday and we continue the dry stretch. Friday will bring much of the same, but showers will start to develop during the evening. Next weekend is looking fairly unsettled. Showers and storms will be possible both Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will start to warm above average again as they make it into the mid 70s. Our storm forecast goes like this...This afternoon: partly sunny! Hi: 48F. Tonight: 30% chc. of rain/snow, lo: 33F. Wednesday: 40% chc for rain/snow, Hi: 41F. Wednesday night: 30% chc for rain/snow. Lo: 27F. Thursday: 20% chc for snow, Hi: 33F. Per Meteorologist Katherine Thompson- WVVA weather..."We look to have a little more cloud cover than we did yesterday thanks to a clipper system passing just to our North today...other than that, our Tuesday looks quiet, with mild temperatures in the upper 40's to low 50's for most of us. Cloud cover will increase heading into this evening ahead of incoming cold front. While not ruling out a shower or two late tonight...most of the precipitation looks to hold off until Wednesday morning...lows tonight will drop into the 30's, and eventually make it up around the 40 degree mark for our Wednesday, therefore the wet weather that will continue on and off throughout the day tomorrow looks to be a mix of rain and snow, with sleet possibly mixing in on occasion as well. Though accumulations look scant- drive carefully. As for the rest of the week- this will be a very tricky forecast, as models are not in agreement over the route of a low pressure system off of the SE , U.S. coast that will develop this weekend. We look to remain dry ( just with lingering clouds) into Thursday and Friday. I will be keeping a chance for another rain/snow mix Saturday though Monday (slight-30%) until there is more consistency- so this number could go up or down. Stay tuned!"

9/26/2015 9/30/2015 4:16 PM 5 1.09 0.0 0.00 This just in from NWS, Weather prediction center...Tropical moisture riding up along and over a frontal boundary has resulted in widespread heavy rainfall across the eastern U.S. during the past couple of days. WPC has initiated Storm Summary for this heavy rain event. The front is forecast to become nearly stationary across the Mid-Atlantic and into the southeastern U.S. during the next few days where a large-scale upper-level low is forecast to form. More tropical moisture being lifted ahead of the upper-level low is expected to result in widespread heavy rainfall along the Eastern Seaboard where potential of over 6 inches of rain is possible through Saturday morning. Hurricane Joaquin, currently east of the Bahamas, could be an important player regarding how much rain will fall on the East Coast by the weekend as it could interact with the upper-level low as well as the stalled frontal boundary near the coast. WPC is in coordination with the National Hurricane Center on the Day 6 and 7 positions of Joaquin. The updated forecast positions of Joaquin will be available on our website later this afternoon. http://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/medr/nav_conus_pmsl.php… Latest forecast of Joaquin through Day 5 from NHC: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at1.shtml?5-daynl#contents Latest WPC Storm Summary: http://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/discussions/nfdscc1.html
