Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/1/2014 8:00 AM 0.13 M M M M Nearly 100 overcast, 46 degrees, calm, has not rained since yesterday afternoon, but forecast for snow in mts. above 7,500 feet, which may drop some rain in the valley this afternoon. If doesn't happen, will be the first day in several that we have NOT had rain in the Jackson area.
10/17/2014 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/26/2014 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Thunder/lightning storm moved through the valley over the western mountains between 10:30 and 11:45 p.m. Had some unusually long (~12-15 seconds) rolls of thunder, strong SW winds, and spectacular bolts of lightning, but not very much rain.
10/27/2014 8:00 AM T T M T M Dusting of snow in valley this morning (enough to have thin layer and cause caution on steps). Did not begin as rain. Surrounding mountains all have fresh snow--Munger has light layer from top to bottom. Lowest temperature this morning was around 30F. Very light pellet snow this a.m., but has now stopped.
11/10/2014 8:00 AM 0.10 1.0 0.10 1.0 0.10 First significant snowfall of season. Seems to have begun with rain after midnight as strong wind gusts were heard through walls and windows. Still lightly snowing at 8:00 a.m.
11/11/2014 8:00 AM 0.13 3.6 0.13 4.0 M 16F, 100% overcast, very light snow. First snow of year that seems to be accumulating on roads and streets for longer than a few hours. Yesterday's snow had not entirely melted before new storm last night.
11/14/2014 7:45 AM 0.50 0.8 0.50 9.0 M First MAJOR snowstorm of season, over ground that has NOT had chance to freeze. 100% overcast, very lightly snowing, 12F, light gusting wind from SW. Fine snow built upon remainder of 3" wetter snowfall from yesterday that could not melt due to sub-freezing temps all day and all night.
11/15/2014 8:30 AM 0.02 0.6 0.02 13.0 1.21 Report does NOT represent snowfall "during the past 24 hours" (only past eight), since I sent in a significant weather report at 11:45 p.m. to update the storm first reported at 7:45 a.m. yesterday. The total snow on ground, however, represents cumulative amount, including melting, compression, and variations due to winds. 17F, light overcast, calm, not precipitating currently.
11/19/2014 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 9F, partly cloudy, calm.
11/24/2014 7:00 AM 0.06 1.3 0.06 8.5 M 27F, slight breeze, light overcast, no precipitation in valley. Ground accumulations distorted by strong winds yesterday afternoon, melting and thickening with higher temps Saturday (along with new snow, winds from northwest).
11/25/2014 9:00 AM 0.20 3.1 0.20 11.5 1.67 30F, 100% overcast, light wet snow falling, mild wind from SW. Ground accumulation on top of partially melted, packed snow--underlying ground did not have chance to freeze before last Friday/Saturday storm. Actual snowfall seems to have been greater than reported 3.1 (likely around 5"), due to partial melting as it lands.
11/26/2014 11:00 AM 0.21 M 0.21 M M 39F, warmer temperatures caused snow in tube to melt, accumulate with snow very nearly rain, so do not have the new snowfall figure. Snow sliding off steep roofs, melting in driveways, creating hazardous slush on streets, making it difficult to shovel/push by hand. Ground snow has melted/compressed significantly.
11/27/2014 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 M M 40F, sunny, thin overcast, light wind that makes wind chill temp a lot lower than 40F. Snow on roofs, ground, driveways, streets continues to melt, making it impossible to shovel, even use snowblower.
12/2/2014 9:00 AM 0.25 0.0 M 3.5 M Tube held liquid water--no snow over the past 24 hours--due to temperatures around freezing overnight. Snow that has accumulated on ground is now compressing--has lost about half of depth in past two days.
12/3/2014 8:00 AM 0.01 0.1 0.01 4.0 M 23F, calm, 100% overcast, snow fell after 11 p.m. Forecast is for 38F, snow/rain mix today, so any snow that falls should melt immediately. Light snowing continuing.
12/4/2014 8:00 AM 0.03 0.0 M M M 35f--melting snow, but very light, intermittent rain. Supposed to be over 40F, so likely to lose a lot of ground cover today, rest of snow on streets, highways.
12/6/2014 9:30 AM 0.01 0.1 0.01 4.0 0.97 31F, calm, 100% overcast, snowing on all surrounding mountains, low-level fog around Snake River/base of Munger Mountain, slightly snowing (pepper snow). Ground snow is extremely crusty/icy, following a couple of days of temps above freezing (~38F).
12/7/2014 9:00 AM 0.04 0.0 0.00 3.0 M Partly cloudy but fair enough forecast for my wife and I to take the truck down to a pull-off alongside the Hoback River south of Jackson and saw down a 12' Christmas Tree!
12/14/2014 8:00 AM 0.14 1.5 0.14 3.0 M 30F, snowing, 100% overcast, limited visibility in Rafter J (Munger Mountain hidden) by blowing snow. Continues to fall. Total ground snow is rough estimate due to uneven melt over past several days, recrusting at night.
12/15/2014 8:00 AM 0.04 0.5 0.04 2.0 M 20F, 100% overcast, calm, VERY lightly snowing (appears to be snowing more heavily on surrounding mountains, although Munger is visible). Ground accum is rough estimate due to variability of cover from freezing/thawing cycles over past several days.
12/18/2014 9:00 AM 0.01 0.1 0.01 M M 24F, calm, 100% overcast, lightly snowing.
12/19/2014 8:00 AM 0.01 0.4 0.01 M M
12/20/2014 8:00 AM 0.01 0.5 0.01 M M
12/21/2014 8:00 AM 0.31 3.5 0.31 M M 33F, light snow/rain falling, 100% overcast. Ground cover is very wet and heavy, seems to be melting faster than new snow is falling.
12/23/2014 8:00 AM 0.03 0.3 0.03 4.0 M 6F, clear skies, calm, light fog on Munger Mountain, at peaks of Tetons, but no signs of coming snow. Coldest last night in several nights, by about 20 degrees.
12/25/2014 8:00 AM 0.21 4.4 0.21 8.5 M 28F (same as at 1230 this morning), brisk wind from north, 100% overcast, blowing snow causing local drifts. None of surrounding mountains visible.
12/26/2014 8:00 AM M 0.0 M 7.0 M 10F (has been steadily falling since 17F at midnight. Partly cloudy, not precipitating. Strong winds all early and late evening caused lot of drifting (up to 24") in valley, distorted tube sampling. While we actually had 4-6" of NEW snow, tube contained 12 inches--which melted to 1.41" of water. Ground snow level NOT sampled (approx. 6-8") due to drifting distortion from 1" to 24" --just estimated.

1/18/2015 8:00 AM 0.02 1.4 0.02 9.0 M 34F, 100 per cent overcast, slight wind from SSE carrying light rain/snow mix, melting and condensing snowfall from yesterday, reducing total depth on ground. Mountains all hidden in fog/snow except for Munger to the south which is entirely visible but exhibiting haze. Ground cover now crunchy snow at top, loose snow in middle, with snow/ice layer directly on ground containing the majority of total water.
1/19/2015 8:00 AM 0.02 M 0.02 8.0 2.42 24F, partly cloudy, calm. Had some freezing rain yesterday afternoon and evening. Tube sample was ice. Ground snow after rain and below-freezing temps last night is very crusty--sidewalks almost a solid sheet of ice and most Rafter J streets extremely slippery. Ground sample consists of several distinct layers of snow and ice--bottom couple of inches that had not been frozen finally froze after repeated temps at and below zero with below-freezing days, so the two inches of snow at ground level contain lot of moisture as ice.
1/20/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 M M 14F, partly cloudy, calm. Rafter J streets and sidewalks remain icy and dangerous to walk on. Dog-walking/hiking/skiing paths on commons areas also treacherous due to packed snow and some ice.

2/3/2015 7:00 AM 0.14 M M M M 35F, partly cloudy, light snow/rain mix yesterday afternoon and evening until around midnight. Due to above-freezing temperatures, all precipitation in tube was liquid (rain).
2/4/2015 8:00 AM 0.47 0.4 0.16 7.0 3.95 34F, light snow/rain mix currently falling, 100 percent overcast. Any snow that fell into tube last night was melted by rain mixed with snow and above-freezing temperatures over past 24 hours. Ground cover is mainly crust of frozen snow over ice layer at surface level.
2/7/2015 8:00 AM 0.01 0.0 0.00 M M 47F. Precipitation in tube was liquid, from rain/snow mix that melted as it fell.
2/8/2015 8:00 AM 0.02 T 0.01 3.5 1.15 33F, calm, partly cloudy. Overnight, had rain/snow mix that left liquid water in tube and wet board deck but light coating of snow on ground. Reported this as trace of snow with half of liquid in tube as melted snow. Due to temps as high as 47 over past 48 hours, have lost a lot (approximately one-half) of accumulated snow on ground, with the remainder being crusty from top to bottom--thick enough to support grown man--but see several bare spots in yard (maybe 10% of total square footage now bare). Surrounding mountains show fresh snow and are entirely visible, except for top one-third of Grand Teton, which is hidden by clouds.
2/9/2015 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 2.0 M 33F, CALM, 100 PER CENT OVERCAST, NO PRECIPITATION CURRENTLY. GROUND SNOW VERY INCONSISTENT WITH VERY LARGE SPOTS OF NO SNOW AT ALL, REMAINING SNOW ESSENTIALLY CRUST.
2/10/2015 7:00 AM 0.14 T M 2.0 M 36F, calm, trace of snow on deck and yard snow from shower that appears to have gone through in the hour before 0530. (Had to take our pup out.) All precip in tube was liquid mainly from rain/snow mix last evening. Deck snow is pelletized, approx. 1/32nd of an inch. Yard snow is nothing but air-filled ice. Too dark to estimate visibility, report any snow currently falling on mountains.
2/11/2015 6:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M 23F, calm. Heavy frost--first significant one in several days. Too dark to report clouds and fog but lot of stars this morning and was crystal clear last evening.

3/4/2015 7:00 AM 0.04 0.2 0.04 3.5 M 4F, calm, partly cloudy. Precipitation in tube was about 90% ice, remainder powder snow--left over from tail-end of the storm that was moving through this area 24 hours ago. Of 14 saplings (<12") planted over past two years, looks like 2 or 3 did not get enough moisture over the winter to survive, and remaining ones were in dire need, so last night's rain will help.

12/16/2014 12/17/2014 8:30 AM 2 0.50 M 0.04 Almost all of the multi-day precipitation fell today. Yesterday would have been .01 core precipitation--not even one-quarter of an inch precipitation.
