It's made for a fast, uninterrupted harvest but the soybeans could have really used a little rain beings they have gotten down to 8 percent moisture when they are optimal at 13 percent. Winter storm Goliath proved to be just that. Lost our electricity for about 1-1/2 hours yesterday morning. Heavy rain and a tenth of an inch of ice covered most of everything the better part of the day yesterday until temps rose above freezing. Grass was just slowing down after mowing last week now it will be back to growing like gangbusters after all the rain since Monday. UGH!!! Mosquito and deer fly populations picking up! Keep moving! |

Finally a dry day and sunshine on Sunday allowed us to get the yard mowed after a week of mostly rain. Field crops need dry weather now to allow some fields to get water off before disease can set in. Haven't seen any Robins in the yard the passed week, don't know if they have left for the season or not after raising their young. Still see bluebird box with activity as parents are feeding young. At 8:45 a.m. CDT bright sunshine, calm and 68 deg F. |

More rain that we really don't need right now. Home farm (4 miles south) has had over 9 inches of rain since 8/14 (unofficial gauge). Water coming from fields to roadside ditches yesterday.
