10/7/2015 5:30 PM 0.45 M M M M Quite the soggy day as it looks at least a lot like October. A fair amount of rain fell compared to what was in the forecast. Skies thick low overcast. Winds light but freshening slightly in the afternoon. Temps mild ranging from 57 to 60 degrees.

10/18/2015 5:30 PM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another mid October day without a drop of rain. So far rainfall totals have been at best modest and at worst drought like amounts since October is usually a fairly wet month. Additionally winds today were extremely light with an average of less than 1 mph. Monthly wind energy of under 7 mph very light as well with trend towards lighter winds the further into the month we get. Very mild temps as well with a low of 55 degrees and high of 61. Every day so far max temps have been in the very high 50's upward into the high 60's slanted to the warmer end.
10/19/2015 5:30 PM 0.08 M M M M Precipitation started out as heavy fog and then mist evolving into light drizzle and then light rain making a pin point estimate of when it started somewhat problematic. It is still falling as moderate drizzle. Temps have been mild with a low of 53 and high of 61. Winds have been very light but are freshening as rain picks up. Skies mostly overcast and/or foggy.
10/20/2015 5:30 PM T M M M M Precipitation from yesterday's update continued to ease from to light drizzle and then mist and finally nothing. Enough fell barely for a trace but determining the times once again is difficult. Overcast skies became more or less foggy with sun starting to break through late morning and shining consistently from early afternoon on totalling just short of 5 hours of sunshine. Winds were slightly stronger this period but still seasonably light to very light. Temps range from 50 to 58 degrees. Forecast is now more of fog and some clearing with little chance of rain. Meanwhile the month of October so far is turning out to be a very dry mild and windless one....Something indicative of an El Nino in the northwest.
10/21/2015 5:30 PM 0.07 M M M M Even with the modest total for this period we got every last drop out of the "20% chance of light isolated showers" which were in the forecast. Before this we had filtered sunshine but before during and after the rain event low thick clouds and a very damp feeling. Now the sun is back out and shinning brightly with the total of 3 1/2 hours of sunshine for the period. Temps were cooler with low of 44 and high of 56. Winds however were once again very to extremely light for this time of the year averaging between 2 and 3 mph.

10/25/2015 5:30 PM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another day without any precipitation. It was at least breezy overnight after several days of very light winds (2-4 mph average daily wind speed for the better part of 2 weeks). Today we've go over 231 wind run miles so far. However winds have gone calm now with the average wind speed for the month so far of 5.7 mph which is scary light for October. 1 inch of rain is lacking as well. Mostly overcast skies kept things gloomy with slightly more than 1 hour of sunbreaks. Temps mild if not warm with low of 49 and high of 69 which is very surprising.
10/26/2015 5:30 PM 0.62 M M M M Got a fairly nice soaking out of this system although it was relatively short lived....About 6 hours in duration. Winds freshened quite a bit during the event but since the rain stopped it's been a mixture of overcast skies with almost 4 hours of sunshine too with wind dying down as well. Temps mild again with a low of 54 and high of 60.
10/27/2015 5:30 PM 0.10 M M M M Total was not rounded.
10/28/2015 5:30 PM 0.35 M M M M
10/29/2015 5:30 PM 0.41 M M M M Several shots of rain/showers along with some breezy winds and mostly cloudy skies. Enough rain has fallen over last few days to cause some minor local street and field flooding along with more wide spread flooding in the forecast. This rain has done a lot to turn a "dry October" into a more 'average October.'
10/30/2015 5:30 PM 0.21 M M M M Overnight and early morning rain started very light and ended that way too. Between the rain start and stop times there were four different shots of a modestly higher rate of rain. Very light winds freshened gradually through the evening hours becoming breezy and then blustery and finally windy through the early morning hours into early afternoon. They then eased back to light. Winds did gust up to 50 mph during the windiest times. Skies were overcast to mostly cloudy with only a few sunbreaks. Temps were mild to warm with a low of 54 and high of 60 degrees. A flood watch has been posted for most of the area rivers throughout the weekend with possible heavy rains.
10/31/2015 5:30 PM 0.85 0.0 M M M After a break in the earlier evening hours rain started light and then really took off. Even after the heaviest period significant amounts and rates kept falling until tapering off aand ending by around noon. Oveecast skies have broke with a few sun breaks now. Winds have been blusgery with temps mild. Enough rain fell recently to cause some minor local flooding and make Octobers total closer to normal.
11/1/2015 5:30 PM 0.32 M M M M Several more shots of rain with ground now soaked enough to have some minor street, field and yard flooding. Blustery winds continued almost uninterrupted with mild temps cooling slightly. Mostly cloudy skies broke enough for around 1.5 hours of sunshine this afternoon.

11/3/2015 5:30 PM 0.09 M M M M Unexpected set of showers moved through during the early morning hours with the clouds depositing their contents rather quickly before moving on. Otherwise skies were from mostly cloudy overnight to mostly clear and sunny mid morning through sunset with over 9 hours of sunshine being recorded. Winds were very light and temps much cooler than as of late with a low of 42 and high of 55.
11/4/2015 5:30 PM 0.01 M M M M Precipitation the result of evening and overnight dew and fog.
11/5/2015 5:30 PM 0.12 M M M M Not much difference on this update between the heaviest period of precipitation and other times. Really rain the fell for the most part was drizzle and scattered at that. As the 'rain' finally stopped the sun came out for over 3 hours in the afternoon. Otherwise skies were mostly cloudy to overcast. Winds were seasonably very light which has been the case for November so far save the first day. Temps were about average with a low of 45 and high of 55. Rain...Perhaps heavy along with wind in the forecast through the weekend.
11/6/2015 5:30 PM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain today as predicted amounts never materialized. Forecast for weekend has been downgraded too. Winds have been freshening but only from very light to barely breezy. Skies were overcast all day with temps ranging from 44 to 54 degrees.
11/7/2015 5:30 PM 0.47 M M M M Enough rain fell during this period and days before to cause more minor local street and field flooding. Rain started out very light in early evening and stayed that way until about an hour before midnight picking up for several hours before easing off to very light again an hour or so before sunrise. Nothing much fell until late morning with light steady rain then until early afternoon with a break until the "heaviest period" started with rain ending right before the end of the period. Winds were breezy with temps average and skies exclusively overcast.
11/8/2015 5:30 PM 0.27 M M M M Periods of rain again with some clearing today with winds light to very light and temps about average.
11/9/2015 5:30 PM 0.00 0.0 M M M
11/10/2015 5:30 PM 0.01 M M M M Just some very light scattered showers adding up to minimal measurable amount of precipitation. Overnight light to very light winds freshened and now are quite blustery. Clear skies overnight led to a low of 36 which is the coldest this fall with some sun breaks only taking the high to 50 degrees. Those clear skies clouded up and are now overcast with rain in the forecast.
11/11/2015 5:30 PM 0.16 M M M M Rain started not long before the heaviest period and most of this update's total fell during this period or right before and just after. A few more light scattered showers fell during the early morning hours. Once daylight broke skies cleared with it mostly sunny all day and around 6 hours of sunshine. Temps ranged from 46 to 56 degrees. Blustery winds gradually eased overnight and through the morning hours becoming light to very light in the afternoon.
11/12/2015 5:30 PM T M M M M As far as rain goes it did start raining 'lightly' in the later afternoon with the ground wet by the time the update period ended...However without any measurable precipitation in the rain gauge. However since it was/is quite windy rain accumulating in the rain gauge can sometimes be compromised. Today was/is a wind event. Evening winds of light to very light gradually started to freshen around the midnight hour. Wind continued to build throughout the morning ours becoming breezy and then blustery....Windy to then very windy. Multiple readings of more than 50 mph were recorded along with a couple in excess of 60 mph with 62 mph the max. Average wind speed for the day even with light early morning winds is 24 mph and building. Skies were overcast with temps ranging from 43 to 51 degrees.
11/13/2015 5:30 PM 1.35 M M M M The trace of rain that fell during the later periods of yesterday's update developed into something much more. Light and steady rain started falling around 6:00 PM gradually increasing through the early to middle evening hours. About 9:30 PM the intensity grew before gradually backing off the a steady drizzle about 30 minutes before midnight. It stayed that way for a couple hours picking up and then becoming the "heaviest period" over a 2 hour duration. .48 inches of this period's total fell during that 2 hours. Rain then eased to into a steady drizzle again before picking up intensity again about 6:00 AM...Almost as heavy as the "heaviest" period. .25 inches fell during this 75 minute period. After that it became steady drizzle and then scattered showers before ending late in the period. Enough rain has fallen now to cause even more yard and field and street flooding...My yard flooding to the point that I've not seen in sometime....A year or more perhaps. Those strong winds from yesterday kept up through the evening hours gradually easing to its current breezy state. Skies have been thick overcast and temps ranging between 51 and 55 degrees. Snow level is above 7000 feet with around 10 Western Washington rivers flooding including our local river the Nooksack. In 5 out of the 6 gauges run by the USGS its flooding and has been for several hours with levels a foot or more over flood stage. The only gauge is the one furthest down river but it is rising fast and probably will flood as well.
11/14/2015 5:30 PM 0.35 M M M M After a break overnight and early morning rain fell ending about 90 minutes before sunrise. Then nothing much fell besides some mist until around 2:00 PM when light but steady rain started to fall gradually picking up and continuing on through the update period. Light evening winds freshened slightly during the early morning hours and then eased to very light and then calm. Skies were overcast with temps cooler than they've been in a while.
11/15/2015 5:30 PM 0.71 M M M M Steady rain continued through yesterday's update to today's. It eased just slight between 8 and 9 in the evening becoming steady then through the midnight hour finally easing after 3:00 AM. Light scattered showers then ensued ending about an hour before sunrise. Overcast skies broke after dawn with today being mostly clear and sunny with some scattered showers....Sunshine adding up to 6 1/2 hours total. Temps ranged from 44 to 52. Light almost calm winds freshened starting around 9:00 PM becoming breezy and then blustery overnight then easing through the later morning hours and staying light through this update. Enough rain fell during this period....Combined with recent rains to keep minor street, field and yard flooding.
11/16/2015 5:30 PM 0.11 M M M M Winds became quite blustery and chilly building through the evening hours and into the early morning hours easing quite a bit until around 3:00 AM. Then the direction changed from NW to SE and winds started to build becoming blustery and then windy and staying that way right through the update time. Skies were also overcast pretty much the whole time. These very thick and low laying clouds however didn't produce any precipitation until later in the afternoon. Once started rain was light and fairly steady easing some as the period came to a close. Temps cooler than of late too.
11/17/2015 5:30 PM 0.94 M M M M Light drizzle fell through yesterday's end to today's start. About 90 minutes into the period it became more steady light rain for an hour or so easing for another hour and picking up even more just before 10:00 PM. This lasted for another hour or so easing to scattered very light drizzle through the midnight hour before finally picking up again just after 3:00 AM. After another hour long shot rain eased to steady moderate drizzle until about 30 minutes past sunrise when the "heaviest" period started....This accounting for 1/4 of an inch of the period's total. Rain then eased to steady light rain before finally ending early afternoon. Thick overcast skies broke late in the afternoon giving us almost 30 minutes of sunshine with skies currently still clear with some scattered clouds. This warm front cause temps to reach 59 degrees with it cooling off much more....Almost to the low of 46. Barometer was active lowering to 29.38 inches of mercury or around 995 mb. Blustery winds became quite strong with multiple gusts in excess of 50 mph with SE winds now switching gradually to WNW. It's still quite bluster. Just about every major river in Western Washington is flooding again with the local river flooding more in in the same gauges than it did just a couple days ago. Enough rain fell again on top of previous amounts to cause local minor yard, field and street flooding.
11/18/2015 5:30 PM 0.00 0.0 M M M After a fairly wild and wet weather day for yesterday's update today was very benign. Windy conditions eased to breezy throughout the evening hours and into the early morning. However by dawn winds became light to very light and then calm picking up slightly in the later afternoon. Clear skies became high clouds with over 3 hours of filtered sunshine. Temps cooler with low of 42 and high of 49 with much chillier temperatures in the near forecast. No rain in this update nor much of a chance for the next several days as weather takes a sharp turn.
11/19/2015 5:30 PM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain again today as skies were mostly clear with more than 6 1/2 hours of sunshine being recorded. There was some low ground fog and dew in the early morning hours but didn't develop into anything else. Temps were much cooler with high of 49 and low of 38. Evening, overnight and early morning winds were light to very light but started to freshen around the noon hour becoming quite breezy if not windy by the end of the period.

2/15/2016 5:30 PM 2.07 M M M M Rain fell light after yesterday's update through the evening hours picking up between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM before easing slightly. It then picked up just before 11:00 PM and continued as a steady relentless rain before easing slightly between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. Then it picked up again like in the early morning period only more so. Choosing the heaviest period was problematic because rain had been very steady. There was a slight trend upwards during the declared heaviest period in which 1/2 of an inch of the period's total fell. Rain continues to fall through update into tomorrow's period. Winds were very light until late afternoon when they picked up. Temps somewhat mild with snow levels around 7000 feet which should add up to some flooding. Enough rain fell in this 24 hours plus what's fallen before to cause more unusual street, yard and field flooding.
2/16/2016 5:30 PM 0.80 M M M M Total for period is not rounded....About 10% of the time statistically it will end up on a whole number...A number with a zero at the end. With that being said significant rain from yesterday's update continued right through the period between the two updates with this significant rain finally ending just after 10:00 PM and completely ceasing within 30 minutes after this. Skies cleared up with half moon shining clearly. Skies remained clear with some scattered clouds with the sun coming up on a broken clouds with clearing breaks. Then after the noon hour skies cleared completely with 5 1/2 hours of sunshine being recorded. Overnight low was 46 with the high reaching a balmy 59 degrees. Clouds from the next approaching front took over between 3 and 4 in the afternoon with skies now almost fully overcast. Winds continue to be light to very light. Enough rain fell in the evening hours plus over the previous 7 days to cause continued minor street, yard and field flooding. The main river the Nooksak reached flood stage in places and caused wide spread road closures throughout the county....A lot of these as much a result of the wide spread in the low lands as it was by the rain in the mountains up to the 7000 foot level with the accompanying significant snow melt.

2/18/2016 5:30 PM 1.49 M M M M Unusually wet February continues despite this area being under an El Nino's influence. Historically that means drier and milder winters with wetter and cooler summers. The former of this doesn't seem to be panning out with the latter yet to come unless last summer is counted into it which was warmer and drier than usual. Between January and February...The former usually contributes much more rain to the yearly total. Once again not so. Over the last week plus this site had recorded just shy of 6" of rain. While a lot of this happened with the snow levels elevated they've now come down with more snow pack being added. In regards to this update all but .02" of the total fell between 9:45 PM and 6:30 AM. All of this was a relentless steady downpour. However I can break out a section in which was the "heaviest" period. .57" of the total fell during this time span. Breezy winds on either side died down to almost calm during that portion. Enough rain fell adding to recent totals to cause more unusual local street, field and yard flooding. Once rain stopped thick low overcast skies cleared enough to contribute over 4 1/2 hours of sunshine to this site as well with winds picking up to blustery and temps cooling.

3/10/2016 5:30 PM 0.45 M M M M First off the designated "severe flooding" may be a bit more than what actually happened but what happened was certainly more than "unusual flooding." There have been 3 notable flooding events at this site in the 20+ years that I've lived here. December 2001 would come in 3rd. Today would be 2nd while February 2006 is definitely 1st. All three of these involved a coastal flooding event in tandem with rain fall. 2006 had tidal spill over deep into the wet lands north of Lummi Bay. The timing included low barometric pressure, high tides and strong winds with significant rain. It filled up the interior of Sandy Point like a huge bath tub. The one thing missing today was perhaps significant rain although with how much rain has fallen over the last weeks/months the ground water table is certainly very high and the ground soaked. Today as the tide peaked (9.41 predicted with a 2.1 foot anomaly which happened at 6:12 AM) the winds had just started to ease slightly. It had not rained since 2:00 AM with most the period's total of rain ending an hour before midnight. When I stated the winds had eased it's relative. Through my CWOP upload to the NWS (every ten minutes) a 71.4 mph gust happened at 5:38 AM and a 70.2 mph gust at 5:50 AM. About a minute before high tide a gust of 67.9 mph was recorded. In all 18 different 10 minute updates showed 60 mph plus gusts over a 5 1/2 hour period of time starting at 3:45 AM and ending around 9:15 AM. Before and after that countless gusts in excess of 50 mph happened. Highest 1 minute average sustained wind speed was 53 mph at 4:45 AM. The 10 minute average was 48.3 mph at that point. All this caused overtopping of the low banks of Sandy Point causing significant areas of roads and homes to be flooded. Water over the roads exceeded more than 18 inches in many locations. Winds gradually eased
3/11/2016 5:30 PM 0.09 M M M M --More from yesterday--Water over the roads exceeded more than 18 inches in many locations. Winds gradually eased. By dawn skies were mostly clear with over 6 1/2 hours of sunshine being recorded for the day. Just before 2:00 PM we had a brief thunderstorm which passed over with some small hail falling and recording the heaviest precipitation period. While there's still 6 hours left in the day this day probably will have the highest wind run of the month/or 24 hour average wind speed. It's a close contest between March 1st where there the wind run was 493 miles or average 24 hour wind speed of 20.5 mph. By the way both 70+ mph gusts are the highests gusts recorded at this site ever along with several of the gusts in the mid to high 60 mph range. Because it was tidal flooding roads now are mostly dry. However the interior part of Sandy Point is still rising which means that not much more rain/higher tide was needed to meet/surpass 2006

4/4/2016 5:30 PM 1.23 M M M M After almost a full week of sunshine and clear skies a front moved in and nailed us pretty good with significant rain. Besides the light stuff at the start and end most of the precipitation fell in two shots....One from around 11:00 PM lasting about 3 hours in which .52 inches fell. The second shot was the "heaviest period" in which .59 fell. It was a relatively cold rain with temps in the high 40's and mountain snow levels around 2500 feet. Winds were from calm to 35 mph. It really played havoc with our process controls at work making it a very long 12.5 hour shift. Enough rain fell during this relatively short period of time to cause some minor street, field and yard flooding. By the time dawn broke overcast skies were clearing with almost 9 hours of sunshine being recorded so far today with some broken clouds as well.

5/28/2016 5:30 PM 0.39 M M M M Late spring holiday weekend starts out looking a lot like late November with gusty winds, dark skies, cool temperatures and the largest rainfall for this month which of course is one of the drier Mays on record. Snow levels actually reached down as low as 4000 feet later rising to 5000 feet which is dangerous for spring time back packers and day hikers if they venture out without the proper preparations... As for me I'm working 4 12.25 hour night shifts so the weather is interesting and nothing more since my plans aren't plans.
