sTORMTRACKER59 FORECAST DISCUSSION:Good Thursday afternoon we see some residual cloud with continued clearing late in the day. Skies will be partly cloudy with the warmth sticking around. Highs end up back around 60-65 degrees before falling during the overnight hours. A complete copy of last week. Short sleeves recommended before we snap back into the jackets. Thursday evening we get lows back into the upper 30s and lower 40s as the cold dry air pumps back in.
Chilly sunshine is expected for Friday with temperatures back around average. Highs will be back in the mid to upper 40s and even a few 50s under plentiful sunshine. Just a great fall day as we continue to cruise through November. The pattern is still lining up for what looks to be an El Nino winter ahead. Friday night football for the playoffs looking good but chilly out there. Hopefully you have jackets and blankets ready to go in the stands because you will need them with lows back down around freezing.
More sunshine for the weekend as skies look to cool again with highs in the upper 30s and low 40s. Lows back down into the low to mid 20s. The first real bitter cold shot arrives over the area with even a shot of snow once again on the ridgetops late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. Sunday we get even colder with highs in the upper 20s and low 30s. Most likely the coldest air that we see so far this year.
The cold continues into Monday underneath mostly sunny skies. Have the jackets, gloves, and hats ready to go. Tuesday and Wednesday will bring back slightly warmer temperatures as highs return to the mid 40s for Tuesday and low 50s for Wednesday. The dry stretch looks to continue and a sneak peak at Thanksgiving shows dry and possible very warm conditions. Stay tuned for further details as we go from one end of the spectrum to the other. |

TODAY'S WVVA FORECAST for Rainelle, WV/ Greenbrier County, WV....
With the cold front past us now, we will be getting quieter into the end of the week into the weekend. We'll be a little cooler this morning, with temps in the low to mid 30s and a few more sprinkles of rain or snow flurries possible from time-to-time, as high pressure is taking its time to build into the region. We'll see some breaks of sun, especially into the afternoon, but will still be battling lots of leftover clouds today, and low pressure along the coast tonight may push the departed front backwards a little, bringing a few late snow showers overnight to our western slopes. (No significant accumulation expected). Highs today will be near to 40 degrees, while lows tonight will be colder, (the lagging cold air behind the front finally building in overnight), dropping into the low 20s. Friday will be chilly with highs in the upper 30s, but dry & sunny as high pressure moves directly overhead. The high will then push east, bringing SW winds into our area for the weekend. We look to have a mix of sun & clouds Sat & Sun with milder temps in the 40s. A deep upper level trough looks to arrive into next week, as well as a coastal low at the surface, this will bring a slight chance of light snow to the area Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday. Temps will also plummet as well, with highs around 40 on Monday- dropping into the 20s by midweek. Stay tuned! |

A cold front will approach the region on Monday, bringing snow showers and much colder air into the region. A few areas may see snow mixing with rain on Monday before changing over to all snow later in the day. Precipitation is expected to begin Monday morning, and off and on snow showers will last through Thursday morning.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Mercer, Monroe, Summers, Western Greenbrier and Tazewell counties from 7am Monday through 6pm Monday. Snow will accumulate 1-3 inches by Monday night with additional accumulation expected through Thursday morning. Outside of the advisory area, 1-2 inches of snow is possible by Monday evening.

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Mercer, Summers, Monroe, Greenbrier, Giles, Bland, Tazewell, and Wythe counties from 6pm Monday through 7am Thursday.
Snow showers and snow squalls could be heavy at times Monday night and Tuesday. Total snow accumulation through Thursday morning will range from a few inches in lower elevations to more than 8 inches along western slopes. Locally higher snow totals are possible.

WVVA Weather TODAY'S FORECAST
Our Presidents Day storm has now moved out of our area and into New England, which has brought an end to all storm warnings for us. However, another quick-moving low will pass by to our south tonight, bringing scattered rain and snow showers this evening, then snow showers overnight. Little to no accumulation is expected through WV, but in southern VA, a trace to an inch is possible. Temperatures will fall into the 20s tonight, allowing for roads to freeze and black ice will be a travel concern through Wednesday morning.
Another disturbance will pass through our area Wednesday, giving everyone a slight chance for snow showers. Most will see little to no accumulation, but through the high terrain, up to an inch is possible. West-northwest winds get a little gusty in the mountains Wednesday afternoon, which will keep snow showers around through Wednesday night. By Thursday, high pressure builds in with sunshine and daytime temps back to normal Thursday and above normal Friday. Black ice will continue to be an issue at night through the end of the week.
Quiet weather continues for us going into the weekend with only a weak and mainly dry front coming through Saturday morning with some early clouds. Temps stay in the 50s both Saturday and Sunday, then another front will bring showers Sunday night into Monday followed by cooler temperatures.

WVVA Weather TODAY'S FORECAST for Rainelle, WV...
High pressure will continue to give us dry weather and above normal temperatures. High clouds are moving across the area this evening and will stick around overnight. A cutoff low in the upper levels across Mexico will weaken and begin to lift northeast next weekend. TODAY'S FORECAST for Rainelle, WV from Stormtracker59 Weather...
Unseasonably warm temperatures across the Two Virginia's today with highs well into the 70s and even some spotty low 80s through the lower elevations! We remain mild tonight with overnight lows falling into the 50s. We will see partly cloudy skies overnight along with a light southerly breeze. Some of the sheltered valleys may dip into the upper 40s by dawn if skies can stay clear. Another big warm up is in store Thursday with highs returning to the 70s under partly cloudy skies.
Our weather pattern looks to stay warm through the next several days. A strong ridge in place over the East is allowing for record high temperatures up and down the coast, including our area today and tomorrow. Wet weather chances and more clouds return Friday and Saturday, then likely showers and a few thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. This wet weather will cool temps slightly, but we still remain a good 10 degrees above normal. Temperatures return to the 70s with more sun by midweek. |

WVVA Weather,,,TODAY'S FORECAST
Our stretch of mild temps and sunny skies comes to an end as we go into the weekend. Today we were a bit cooler, but many managed to reach low 60s with the help of nearly clear skies. Clouds increase overnight ahead of our next system that should start bringing light rain showers by dawn. It may be cold enough in the morning for some brief wet snow or sleet to mix in, but a cold rain is what we will see for much of the day. Temperatures hover in the lower to mid 40s through the day with an easterly breeze.
An upper level low will be moving in our direction Saturday, bringing likely rain, cloudy skies and cooler temperatures. Low pressure at the surface will move along the Gulf coast and redevelop off the Carolinas. We will begin to get cold enough for a mix of rain and snow or a change to wet snow showers Saturday night into Sunday. As this coastal low moves quickly toward New England and our upper low fizzles out into a wave, precipitation will become light and spotty Sunday, gradually ending in the mountains by Sunday night. An inch of snow or less is expected for most with 2 or 3 inches in the high elevations of Greenbrier & Pocahontas Counties.
We begin to dry out Monday, but remain chilly. A warming trend begins Tuesday through Thursday with highs getting back into the 60s and even low 70s with dry, sunny conditions. Our next front looks to arrive with a chance for rain Friday. |

WVVA Weather for Rainelle, WV...TODAY'S FORECAST
High pressure will move our way tonight and Monday morning. With clear skies and winds calming down, frost is likely in many areas.
Freeze Warnings and Frost Advisories have been posted for our area for Sunday night and Monday morning. Extra precautions should be taken to protect sensitive vegetation.
A Frost Advisory is in effect for the following counties: Mercer, McDowell, Wyoming, Raleigh, Fayette, Summers, Tazewell, Wythe, Giles and Buchanan counties. Temperatures overnight and early Monday morning will range from near 30 in deeper valleys to near 40 on higher ridges. A Frost Advisory means that widespread frost is expected.
A Freeze Warning is in effect for the following counties: Monroe, Greenbrier and Pocahontas. Temperatures in these areas will range from the middle 20s to lower 30s. Vegetation may be severely damaged or killed by several hours of below freezing temperatures. A Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely.
Sunshine is expected on Monday and we'll see warmer temperatures as well. Highs will rebound back into the middle 60s, but clouds will start to increase late in the day. Rain showers return for Tuesday with highs in the lower 60s. Showers will linger into Wednesday, but drier weather is anticipated for Thursday and Friday with high temperatures near 70. WVVA Weather...SEVERE STORMS POSSIBLE BRIEFLY THIS EVENING, THEN SHOWERS LINGER TO END THE WEEK...
A line of thunderstorms will be making its way southeast through our area this evening. Strong, damaging wind gusts are possible with this line, but should be short-lived. A few storms may be severe with heavy downpours and dangerous lightning as well as a small chance for hail and an isolated, brief tornado. Overnight we may still see a shower or weak thunderstorm along with patchy fog and temperatures in the lower 60s. Occasional showers and a weak thunderstorm are expected Friday as low pressure and a cold front begin to move away from our area. Lots of clouds and cooler with highs in the low 70s.
Friday will be a quieter weather day with all the severe storms well to our south. However, a cold front moving through and low pressure moving away to our south and east will keep occasional showers and clouds around much of the day. This system will exit our area completely by Friday night and high pressure building to our north will bring less humidity and sunshine for Father's Day weekend! We stay breezy Friday night and Saturday, then look warm and dry Sunday.
We turn warmer for the start of summer on Monday, but are still dry and sunny. Our next cold front approaches Tuesday night into Wednesday with a chance for a few showers or a thunderstorm. |
