When I got there, the snow was above the rim of the rain gauge, and the post the rain gauge was attached to had about 8 inches that was combined with the amount above the rim of the rain gauge. I separated the snow as best I could and brought the rain gauge in to melt. At 8:00 AM I took a core sample. I had 0.11 in the rain gauge from 5:10 to 7:00, so the additional that came down before the core sample was probably about 0.05. Given that the snow that came down on Tuesday was melting as it came down, I think that a tenth of an inch less in the core sample is very reasonable. Thus, I think that the 1.34 is a very reasonable approximation of what came down.

Very little snow came down in the hour since I measured the rain gauge. My guess is that the cap on the rain gauge meant that the gauge missed at least 1/4 inch of moisture.
