Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/9/2016 7:00 AM 1.70 M M M M Been gone from my spot and rain gage for a week from the 1st through the 8th, but this is what fell Thursday night with passage of cold front. Finally after 4 weeks!
10/10/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M dry again:
10/13/2016 7:00 AM T M M M M Only trace amounts this week. Ground still dry. Ottumwa reporting Airport still 8 inch deficit for the year. Area of SE Iowa still on the drought monitor map,,seems just cant rain in this area for some reason?
10/16/2016 7:00 AM 0.20 M M M M Crazy weather pattern ? Storm track north along the Canadian Border,,the shifts south up through the Ohio Valley,,then shifts back north along the Canadian border again, with basically no weather happening in between. Why is there no storm system to ride NE through the Midwest?
10/18/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Still on the verge of drought here. Nice rsins up to the north across Canada. Nice rains to develop across the Ohio Valley...Nothin in between!
11/3/2016 7:00 AM 0.30 M M M M Yesterday,,about 12pm until 3pm,,Thunder-rain,,,for a couple hours. Still dry,,very dry subsoil,,need a lot more but none in the offing! Last weekmmwas gone,,guage showed .18 not much!
11/13/2016 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Drought only gets worse. Big storm a commin,,but no gulf moisture? less than half inch for November. Looks like Arizona down here!
11/23/2016 7:00 AM T M M M M Big system was to have brought us rain? Our weather services had us down for 90% once,,even extended 90% ,,80%,,70% all amounted to a trace. Only one rain event so far this month. that was a 3rd. Driest I hae ever seen it here. Terrible drought conditions. Mr. Trump needs to clean house..Do away with the Nat weather service offices. Or the Offices need new computer models. They have been way off on precip for months now..Is incredible!
11/28/2016 7:00 AM 0.50 M M M M Finally some moisture! Outlook though is for the mjor storm track to not be aimed at the Midwest,,but up the Ohio Valley to the East Coast. same as last Winter. Not good for this dry part of Iowa!
12/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.51 M M M M Have not reported precip for some time now. Have been away from my area for some time. Needless to say however, My area is ending 2016 with a moisture deficit. ranging from 6 to as much as 10 inches. This .51 fell Sunday the 25 th. Major moisture events continue to mostly miss SE-Iowa. {EDIT: According to the notes this appears to be a date error or a multi-day report. Changed report of 0.51 to NA until observer can be contacted to verify. Submission Time Before EDIT: 12/27/2016 7:08 AM CoCoSTAFF DNT}. 0.51 inch report moved one day earlier to period ending 7 a.m. Dec. 26 (HH).
1/11/2017 7:00 AM 0.09 M M M M Once again better precip fell to our north. Pattern since the Spring of 2016 basically. Drought continues for SE Iowa!
3/1/2017 7:00 AM T M M M M I have not reported for some time. Very little to report. An inch of snow a couple times, a few hundreths of rain here and there, for the past 6 weeks. The drought here is in full command with no end in sight. Even though our Nat Weather Service Office has forecast us to receive decent rains several times. it never happens. I don't even read their forecasts anymore. I wish some one could tell me why this drought continues now going into our second year?
3/27/2017 7:00 AM M M M M M To report: This rainfall fell over the 24 hr period of Friday night the 24th to Sat morning the 25th. I was unable to report at that time. Just for your information. Only significant precip in weeks!
3/30/2017 7:00 AM 1.15 M M M M
4/10/2017 7:00 AM 0.40 M M M M Have not reported in awhile. The past 2 wks received approx. 5 and a half inches of rain. My ground water table is about full again,,for now anyway>
4/16/2017 7:00 AM 0.95 M M M M 0.95" amount originally reported for Apr. 17 (HH).
4/17/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M This fell Saturday night between 11:PM and 2:AM. Daily amount of 0.95" reported for Apr 17 moved to Apr 16 (HH).
4/19/2017 7:00 AM 0.26 M M M M No flash flood here. Where did the Weather Service come up with that?
4/20/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Big FAT Zero last night. Weather Services here in Iowa had us all primed for big storm action WED night. All fell apart near I-35 except for extreme N-Iowa on up into Minn and Wis. Looks like a typical Summer pattern. Energy going NORTH.
4/26/2017 7:00 AM T M M M M Weather Services out here in Iowa forecast a WET week. Little chance to dry out they said. Ends up the entire week will be DRY! Tues night supposed to receive quarter to half. Same for WED. Ended up with a TRACE. Same for most of the STATE. What is wrong with the models? Last week flash flood watch. Result,,1/4 inch? Am I in an alternate Universe or something? Worst of it is, went from very warm humid conditions to frosty air twice now with little weather. All either up in Minn or jumps to the south in MO. Need to build up surplus moisture now, before jet streams head to the NORTH for the Summer duration . Not good!!
4/27/2017 7:00 AM 0.49 M M M M Last big push of rain through Ill, east of the Miss was far enough west to give me nearly half inch. Much less west of me.
5/2/2017 7:00 AM M M M M M This amount was recorded from Friday April 28th to May 1st. I was gone so I checked my rain gage when I got back Monday. Rain gage was empty Friday Morning. {EDIT: Observer reported 2.97 of new precip but indicated in the notes that this is a multi-day report. Changed report of 2.97 to NA and entered a multi-day report for the time period specified. CoCoSTAFF DNT}
5/11/2017 7:00 AM 1.64 M M M M
5/17/2017 7:00 AM 0.19 M M M M Activity died this morning coming from western Iowa as is usually the case for us.
5/18/2017 7:00 AM 0.66 M M M M Storm hit here at 4PM Wed. Hail quarter to half dollar size! hurt trees/plants badly.
5/19/2017 7:00 AM 0.68 M M M M
5/22/2017 7:00 AM M M M M M Over the weekend I was not at my site. I checked my gage on Monday the 22nd. I had 3 tenths. Sent as one-day total at 4:17 p.m. May 22; daily amount for 22nd changed to 'NA' and 0.30" total changed to 3-day total ending May 22 (HH).
5/23/2017 7:00 AM T M M M M Sprinkles basically. Rain south in MO. Rain north IN Minn and western Iowa. South Central Iowa missed.
6/1/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M only trace amounts the last two weeks. looks dry thru next week. hello drought monitor map !
6/6/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Next week 4 wks here NO rain. Small corn stressing. Forecasts here for next week suggest western trough may well miss us with any moisture. Means we could see five dry weeks!
6/16/2017 7:00 AM 0.12 M M M M rain amount reported via e-mail (HH).
6/18/2017 7:00 AM 0.52 M M M M Daily amount of 0.52 moved from 19th to 18th on basis of observer comments and radar info (HH).
6/19/2017 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Saturday received this half inch after a week that saw significant rain fall just about everywhere except this area of SE Iowa especially down in MO. This week is number 5 for my area with only this .52 falling! is is supposed to be the wettest month of the year! Daily amount moved to 24-hour period ending 7 a.m. June 18th to match observer comments and radar info (HH)
6/23/2017 7:00 AM 0.09 M M M M This week received .16 and .09. this along with last Sat around a half inch. This is all the moisture in the last 5 weeks. Next week will be 6 ! Drought Monitor needs to upgrade my area to MODERATE Drought. How dry does it have to get here? Every system is spoken of by my area Weather Services as very active with flash flooding possible? When they pass they have a lot of lightning but little water. Worst drought I've seen yet. Is anybody listening?
6/29/2017 7:00 AM T M M M M One more time,,making 4 in a row to be exact! Storms and rain went north and south into MO missing my area. People are scratching their collective heads asking why this keeps happening? With all the hype from the Weather Services about heavy rain,,Half to 3/4s of an inch,,One to two inches? They haver lost any credibility with anyone who reads their Model garbage! The drought goes on now entering 7 weeks. Amazing!!!!!
7/4/2017 7:00 AM T M M M M Drought here now looks like easily make it 8 weeks! Most areas a half inch or less during this time! Business's going under. Farmers finished. Yet no one seems to notice? Not even the Drought Monitor. All good active jet streams and active atmosphere are past. Now entering the usually dryer time of Summer. POP UP storms here or there. Jets retreating to the North. Who knows how long this drought can go on. already 2 months,3 ? 4? Who knows? No Model predicted this. Even though this area was on the drought Monitor all of 2016, Rains from NWS have been forecast here for the past 3 weeks. 70% inches forecast. Models all missed it. Models useless. Record breaking drought some old farmers are saying!
7/5/2017 7:00 AM 1.10 M M M M A narrow ribbon of storms across SE Iowa. Many areas still missed. Still a moderate drought here in my estimation and worsening. No organized systems in sight.
7/14/2017 7:00 AM M M M M M This is the total for the week. First fell Tues MORN and second much less early Thurs morn. .45 and then a 10th. Big joke was the flash flood watch put out WED Eve for the SE two rows of counties by the NWS in DesMoines. I said,:"They've got to be kidding?" Turns out they were. The flood hit down in MO. Even though the KC NWS had only a 40% chance of any rain for that region! What is it with these guys and their models? A joke. A cruel joke as we are now officially in a Moderate Drought. Upgraded this week. This is the 5th system in a row that has taken a DIVE down to pour on MO> What is causing this? Guess nature likes this habit. Sort of like a drug or alcohol addiction in humans. This makes the 5th time this has happened in 8 weeks time. Drought only deepens here even though overly wet to our east and SW.Dryer months on the horizon. I expect an upgrade to SEVERE Drought down this road. Who would have thought it? A Severe Drought in such a small area surrounded by surplus in Iowa? I knew the flash flood watch was over at 5pm. The wind at my house near the MO border switched to the north. Told my friend,,its down in MO tonight. Funny NWS continued with their silly watch so all the evening TV Weather guys and gals,,kept saying,"Good NEWS for Parched SE Iowa". NO the good news had passed.! {EDIT: Observer reported 0.55 of new precip but indicated in the notes (great notes!) that this was a multi-day report instead of a 24 hour report. Changed report of 0.55 to NA until observer can be contacted to verify and then a multi-day report will be issued. CoCoSTAFF DNT}
7/22/2017 7:00 AM 0.17 M M M M The little front that gave NE Iowa down into ILL heavy rain and Severe Storms all week along I-80 and north into WIS has made it thru SE Iowa this SAT AM with a whopping less than a quarter inch most area here. Our moderate drought goes on next week making 10 weeks with most of the area receiving less than 2 inches! I think we should be upgraded to a SEVERE DROUGHT!!!
7/27/2017 7:00 AM 0.09 M M M M Another flood watch posted by the DESMOINES Weather Service, a bust! The 4th one in 3 months of drought. They are a joke! Never saw forecasting like this for my area since I came to Iowa past 10 years. Either the Models are crazy or the weather is crazy or both? The heavy rain fell 150 miles south. A little bit off I'd say! Our serious life changing drought goes on. I have experienced only 3 thunder storms in the past 3 months. How can this be in southern Iowa during the Summer? A 100% coverage of thunder storms was forecast for 24 hours by the NWS. I emailed them right away when I saw it put out. I told them the rain will be in MO! Change the forecast!! They stuck with it. A laughing joke if it wasn't so sad. A waste of taxpayer money for sure. NWS should be abolished!!
8/4/2017 7:00 AM 0.33 M M M M We are officially in a SEVERE Drought now. If you drive in about any direction there is NO drought. Why is this? for sure NWS and Models have not a clue!!!
8/6/2017 7:00 AM T M M M M NWS at DesMoines, to their credit were hesitant to go with the rain forecast of up to three quarters of an inch with the failed model predictions of the past, but they went with it for SAT night. I emailed them warning them of all the past failed forecasts for rain but to no avail. That forecast went out over the airways to the many living under the trial of this Sever Drought. Only to have to have the forecast slowly trimmed down once again from 60% to 50% to 40% to 20 and finally less than a 10th. Not even a few hundreths fell across my area. All down in MO where it has been tha past 3 months. Funny models seem to forecast well for rain and even heavy rain in other states just not Iowa? Cool now. Why is it not raining? For certain Weather Service, models haven't a clue. worst drought old timers have ever seen and we are surrounded by flood watches. Bizzare?
