Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/5/2016 6:00 AM 0.75 M M M M 0.10 inches fell from light to briefly moderate showers from 2:12 PM to 4:20 PM. 0.04 inches of this fell in the first 5 minutes (2:12 to 2:17 PM). The main band of rain and thunderstorms occurred locally from 9:55 PM to 11:15 PM and dropped another 0.65 inches. 0.46 inches fell in the heaviest half hour of precipitation.
10/6/2016 6:00 AM 0.44 M M M M A thundershower pushing in from southwest dropped about 0.35 inches from 10:25 PM to 10:45 PM. Another storm mainly to the west brushed by from 11:36 PM to 11:41 PM dropping about another 0.06 inches. A brief shower dropped about another 0.03 inches from 4:32 AM to 4:37 AM. 0.25 inches fell in heaviest 10 minutes.
10/7/2016 6:00 AM 0.22 M M M M Line of thunderstorms pushed in from the west. 0.17 inches in heaviest 30 minutes. Quite a bit of lightning, limited precipitation locally. Back end of rain band hung back into the local area bringing sprinkles and an additional hundredth of an inch as late as around 10:30 PM. Occasional lightning and thunder continued through that time.
10/10/2016 6:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Showers pushing in from the southwest early this morning.
10/11/2016 6:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Sprinkles of rain through much of the day and a few heavier showers passed through the area, but no additional measurable rainfall at this location past 6:15 AM. Event total 0.08 inches.
10/12/2016 6:30 AM 0.06 M M M M Thundershowers pushed in from the west as a cold front pushed across the area. More widespread thundershowers passed by just to the south of this site, but with an initial shower passing by just to the north (as seen on radar). Delayed observation time by 1/2 hour to allow a last area of light precipitation to complete its move eastward across the area.
10/14/2016 6:40 AM T M M M M Light drizzle at observation time. Very light sprinkles yesterday evening.
10/15/2016 6:00 AM T M M M M Occasional light drizzle yesterday morning into midday.
10/21/2016 6:00 AM 0.02 M M M M A narrow band of light precipitation moved across the area from the northwest yesterday morning. Then sunny and cool in the afternoon and clear and cool overnight.
10/26/2016 7:00 AM 0.17 M M M M Band of mainly light rain with embedded heavier thundershowers pushed in from the west. Heavier precipitation and storms mainly to the west toward Topeka as the band tended to weaken as it progressed eastward into the local area.
11/3/2016 6:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Developing thundershower with some heavy rain just to the northwest moved eastward just to the north of this station. It then developed southeastward across east Lawrence mainly to the east of this station. Rainfall was much heavier less than a mile to the northwest to northeast and also several miles to the east and southeast of this location. An earlier, less significant afternoon shower also passed eastward a short distance to the north and northeast, missing this location entirely.
11/7/2016 6:05 AM 0.02 M M M M Precipitation fell in a band of light rain moving south to north in the hour before observation time.
11/8/2016 6:00 AM 0.06 M M M M A bit of light rain pushed in from the southwest.
11/23/2016 6:00 AM 0.08 M M M M 0.05 from 9:53 to 10:54 AM and 0.03 from 12 noon to 12:50 PM with off and on dribbles and spits starting around 6 AM and lasting until around 4 PM as core of system passes by to the west and north. Basically, another miss for significant precipitation and the dry trend continues. (0.51 cumulative total back through 10/8 in 9 daily measurable events; it is now about 6 1/2 weeks since the last 'significant' precipitation event at this location.)
11/28/2016 6:00 AM 0.20 M M M M 0.03 from light showers from 2:40 to 3:50 PM. 0.17 from 8:40 to 8:55 PM from an elongated but isolated shower that pushed in rapidly from the west-southwest. The evening shower dumped brief heavy rain but only wetted a narrow swath centered just to the south and east of this station.
12/4/2016 6:00 AM 0.56 M M M M Very light rain started around 8:50 PM with a higher (but still light) intensity of .05-.09 inch per hour starting around 10:10 PM. This was the first 24-hour precipitation event of greater than a quarter inch since the measurements taken on the 5th and 6th of October (8 1/2 weeks!). This was a much needed soaking rain, as the ground was beginning to crack and shrink in and surface conditions were getting quite dusty as well.
12/5/2016 6:00 AM 0.07 M M M M Light rain ended about 7:15 AM. Event total 0.63 inches.
12/8/2016 6:00 AM 0.04 0.4 M T M Very light snow for a few hours midday.
12/12/2016 6:00 AM 0.03 M M M M From a period of light drizzle around midday yesterday.
1/11/2017 6:00 AM T M M M M Sprinkles from a windy Pacific front in the morning. Rainbows, an apparent flash of lightning to the north and a few decent looking showers in the vicinity as the front passed. Sunny by afternoon with decreasing winds and a bit cooler compared to the upper 50s of the early morning before the frontal passage.
1/14/2017 6:30 AM 0.02 M M M M A light glaze on surfaces from light freezing precipitation overnight. Melted down to 0.02 inches. 27 degrees at observation time.
1/15/2017 7:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Light freezing rain starting sometime after midnight and ongoing at observation time. Temperature at observation time was 31.
1/16/2017 6:00 AM 0.79 M M M M Moderate rain at observation time with a temperature of 35.4 degrees.
1/17/2017 6:00 AM 0.13 M M M M From light showers yesterday that ended before sunset as an upper level low pressure system that crossed Baja and northern Mexico in previous days pushed northeastward across the local area.
1/20/2017 7:00 AM 0.02 M M M M From drizzle/very light rain overnight.
1/21/2017 6:30 AM 0.01 M M M M A bit of light drizzle yesterday but some of this small amount of moisture in the gage could be from morning dew. Overnight low of 37 at 5:15 AM; 40 degrees at observation time.
1/22/2017 6:00 AM 0.03 M M M M From a bit of very light rain yesterday evening after cloudiness pushed in from the south in the afternoon.
1/29/2017 6:00 AM T M M M M Enough light rain to dampen the streets a bit yesterday evening but not enough to measure.
2/20/2017 6:00 AM 0.02 M M M M From light showers pushing in from the south around 4 AM.
2/21/2017 6:00 AM T M M M M From sprinkles during the morning hours after 6 AM yesterday.
2/25/2017 6:00 AM 0.02 T M T M From drizzle, a few light rain showers mixed with a bit of ice pellets starting around 9:45 AM, changing to snow flurries in the afternoon and evening as a cold moist northwest flow scraped the area from a storm that hit mainly to the north of Kansas.
3/7/2017 6:00 AM 0.11 M M M M Developing line of thunderstorms moved in from the west with cells moving from the west-southwest. Areas just to the south and east of the station hit much harder by a developing cell that later became part of the line. Strong south winds proceeded the storms all day with very gusty winds over 50 MPH with the storms. Wind shift about 6 PM with the temperature in the mid 70s, dropping to the mid 50s by 7:45 PM.
3/12/2017 6:00 AM 0.09 M M M M From light snow that fell yesterday. Mostly the snow melted as it fell or shortly thereafter but a light coating of snow remains on some grassy areas and elevated surfaces this morning.
