When I awoke at 3:00 AM on the 6th it was snowing heavily (a very wet, heavy snow). A small amount of snow had accumulated in the mouth of the rain gauge and there was 0.2 inches on the deck railing (with a water content of 0.05 inches), with snow beginning to accumulate on grassy surfaces but not on the driveway. By 4:20 AM, there was an additional 0.8 inches of snow on the deck railing, with a water content of 0.23 inches, and snow had started to accumulate on the driveway. By 6:30 AM, the snow on the deck raining had been reduced to about 0.25 inches of wet slush, the snow that had started accumulating on the driveway earlier in the morning was essentially all melted, and the temperature had risen several degrees. Light drizzle was falling at the time of observation. Snow cover is nearly 100% with exception of areas immediately under the protection of large trees. Snow depths (slush, really) measured at least 1.0 inches but were difficult to measure because of growing blades of grass. |
