10/1/2016 8:00 AM 0.58 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Light rain falling at the observation time this morning, the first day of Water Year 2017. Temps at 56 degrees and very humid. Overcast with low stratus decks present. We had some light mist/DZ for much of the day yesterday with heavier showers moving in later in the afternoon just before 4 PM, ending right around midnight. Looks like this latest batch of precip just started not too long ago. 8 AM Obs.....Present Wx: -RA | Sky Condition: OVC005 (estmd.) | Visibility: 9 SM.....Ambient Wx Station Data.....Wind: SSE @ 2 MPH G 4 MPH | Temp: 56° | Dew Pt: 56° | Humidity: 99% | Altimeter: 30.12 inHg (falling) | Solar: 0.34 w/m² | 24 hour Precip: 0.64 in | 24 hour trends.....High Temp: 60° | Low Temp: 55° | Max Wind Gust: 17 MPH / Avg Dir: SE
10/2/2016 8:00 AM 0.20 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Grey-blue colored stratocu filling the sky this morning. A little bit of mist reducing VIS out there. The ground is very wet from the on a off showers that moved in from the south and northeast yesterday and late last night. Several rounds of light rain / patchy DZ (7:55 AM - 9:30 AM, 6:10 PM - 6:20 PM), during the day, with some more rain falling closer to 11 PM, lasting until about 4 AM (radar estimated). Looks like we may see some breaks in the clouds today, as opposed to yesterday's blanket overcast. 8 AM Obs.....Present Wx: BR | Sky Condition: BKN065 (estmd.) | Visibility: 7 SM.....Ambient Wx Station Data.....Wind: Calm (0 MPH) | Temp: 53° | Dew Pt: 53° | Humidity: 98% | Altimeter: 30.05 inHg (rising) | Solar: 10 w/m² | 24 hour Precip: 0.20 in | 24 hour trends.....High Temp: 62° | Low Temp: 53° | Max Wind Gust: 15 MPH / Avg Dir: SE
10/3/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Very light mist this morning, but otherwise overcast skies with a low Stratus deck present. Temps have since rebounded a bit from the low temp of 52° earlier this morning before 6 AM. Our rain streak of 7 days of precip ended yesterday with a mix of sun and clouds after the clouds broke out earlier in the morning. Stratus and Stratocu early in the day with some building Cumulus present during the afternoon with dark cloud bases. Warm temps close to 70°, helped produce a few isolated showers to the north and west of us after 3 PM, but most of the precip dissipated before it reached us. More Stratocu toward sunset as the Cu started to flatten out. Drier/warmer air will filter into the area for the next several days, we may even see some thunderstorms later in the week as southerly flow helps boost instability over the region. 8 AM Obs.....Present Wx: BR | Sky Condition: OVC001 (estmd.) | Visibility: 7 SM.....Ambient Wx Station Data.....Wind: Calm | Temp: 56° | Dew Pt: 56° | Humidity: 99% | Altimeter: 30.14 inHg (rising) | Solar: 3 w/m² | 24 hour Precip: 0.00 in | 24 hour trends.....High Temp: 69° | Low Temp: 52° | Max Wind Gust: 10 MPH / Avg Dir: WNW
10/4/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Fog present this morning reducing VIS to 1/2 mile or less in spots. Low Stratus deck just above the ground fog. Precip recorded is from some drizzle that fell yesterday morning between 8:30 and 11 AM (approx.). Patchy drizzle and mist cleared out by the afternoon, with Stratus and Cu present throughout remainder of the early afternoon. Cloud decks lifted throughout the day with Stratocu forming by the late afternoon hours. A much warmer day expected today as southerly flow starts to become more of a factor for our temps. Also expecting some clearing later today. 8 AM Obs.....Present Wx: FG | Sky Condition: OVC002 (estmd.) | Visibility: 1/2 SM.....Ambient Wx Station Data.....Wind: SE @ 1.8 MPH | Temp: 56.3° | Dew Pt: 56.1° | Humidity: 99% | Altimeter: 30.21 inHg (rising) | Solar: 11 w/m² | 24 Hour Precip: 0.00 in | 24 Hour Trends.....High Temp: 62° | Low Temp: 53° | Max Wind: 8 MPH / Avg Dir: SE

Otherwise, high Cirrus above the low Cumulus. Temps are also fairly mild hovering around 60°. Winds are out of the southeast with healthy breezes blowing every so often. Low cloud yesterday cleared out by the early afternoon with a mix of sun and Cumulus clouds passing by. Very warm temps reaching the 70° mark. A beautiful sunset with reddish colored Cirrostratus filling the western horizon. 10/6/2016 8:00 AM 0.43 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 A very foggy morning with VIS reduced down to less then an 1/8 of a mile in spots. Temps in the low 50s. Breezy SE-SW winds during the day yesterday with gusts up to 20 MPH at times over the area. Temps climbed into the upper 70s, which is a good 15-20° above average for this time of year. Cumuliform clouds (Altocu and towering Cu at times), accompanied by higher CIrrostrat during afternoon hours. A line of thunderstorms pushed through the area shortly after 5 PM, accounting for the precip recorded this morning. The heavy rain didn't last too long (about 30 minutes), before the clouds started to scatter out of the area. A mixture of Stratocu and Altocu accompanied this line, along with high Cirrus tops shooting above the Cumulonimbus thunderheads. Altocu and Cirrus/Cirrostrat prevailing after the passage of these showers. Fog quickly spread over the region as well, making for very muggy conditions. 8 AM Ob.....Present Wx: FG | Sky Condition: OVC001 (estmd.) | Visibility: 1/8 SM.....Ambient Wx Station Data.....Wind: Calm | Temp: 53.8° | Dew Pt: 53.1° | Humidity: 97% | Altimeter: 30.13 inHg (rising) | Solar: 13 w/m² | 24 Hour Precip: 0.42 in | 24 Hour Trends.....High Temp: 77° | Low Temp: 53° | Max Wind: 13.4 MPH / Avg Dir: SSE

10/8/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Coolest morning of the Fall Season with temps at 40°, and clear skies present. High pressure will build in for the next several days before rain chances return later next week. A bit of sunshine earlier in the day yesterday after the morning Cirrostrat moved out. The winds quickly picked up around noon along with increasing Stratus and Stratocu decks moving over the area. This was associated with the recent big shift in the pattern with the passage of this cold front. Temps dropped a good 5-10° between 4 and 7PM after high temps reached into the lower 70s by the noon hour. Our winds also shifted from the SW earlier in the day, to more of a NW component later in the afternoon following FROPA. A few breaks in the clouds toward sunset, revealing mid-Altocu decks above the low Stratus and fragmented Cu rolling over the area from the west. A really pretty sunset with a reddish-orange colored sky. On a side note, the Fall colors are finally starting to come through a little more. Cooler nights much like last night should help some. 8 AM Ob.....Present Wx: N/A | Sky Condition: SKC | Visibility: 10SM.....Ambient Wx Station Data.....Wind: Calm | Temp: 40.3° | Dew Pt: 38° | Humidity: 92% | Altimeter: 30.17 inHg (rising) | Solar: 10 w/m² | 24 Hour Precip: 0.00 in | 24 Hour Trends.....High Temp: 74° | Low Temp: 40° | Max Wind: 16.1 MPH / Avg Dir: WSW

Mostly cloudy with blue-gray Stratocu present and darker Stratocu shielding the rising sun. A bit of steam fog rolling off of the pond at the moment. After a cool start yesterday, temps rebounded into the low 50s with brisk WNW-NW winds (gusts up to 24 MPH), during the day which peaked by mid-afternoon. Cumulus with little to moderate vertical extent, as well as dark lines of Stratocumulus, moved through during the late morning hours becoming more prevelent by the afternoon. 10/10/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Temps right at the freezing mark this morning, and we have frost covering many surfaces (50% coverage). This will mark the first frost of the Season for us, which arrives a week earlier then the first frost date last year, despite the mild Fall we've been having. Similar to yesterday morning, we have steam fog rollling off the pond and the adjacent lake, but a bit thicker in coverage due to the cooler temps. Over the lake, the fog is very thick and moving into the rising sun, making for quite a pretty sunrise. A few periods of clearing early in the morning after the observation time yesterday. Scattered Cumulus clouds pushed in during the late morning hours, flattening out and becoming predominantly Stratocumulus later in the day. Dark based clouds with very little vertical extent. Mostly cloudy skies at times during the early afternoon with significant clearing toward sunset. Temps were quite a bit warmer then on Saturday, rebounding into the upper 50s. This warmup is expected to continue with temps nearing the 70° mark over the next few days. Southerly steering flow aided along by an upper trough will help boost temps, along with bringing in increased chances for showers later in the week.....8 AM Ob.....Present Wx: BCFG | Sky Condition: SKC | Visibility: 7SM.....Ambient Wx Station Data.....Wind: Calm | Temp: 32.9° | Dew Pt: 32.7° | Humidity: 99% | Altimeter: 30.41 inHg (rising) | Solar: 9 w/m² | 24 Hour Precip: 0.00 in | 24 Hour Trends.....High Temp: 57° | Low Temp: 32° | Max Wind: 9.2 MPH / Avg Dir: NNW

Mostly sunny skies for much of the day yesterday as our temps rose into the low-mid 60s. Very pleasant WX with low humidity. Some high cirrus and more predominant Cirrostratus pushed in later in the afternoon, thickening quite a bit by sunset. This is associated with an upstream shortwave sliding closer to the area. However, the sun is shining through the Cirrostrat, so we may have some breaks in the clouds later today, before our chances of rain increase. Temps once again mild hovering in the low 50s this morning. Mostly cloudy during the morning yesterday with more breaks in the clouds later in the day, especially by the late afternoon hours. Predominantly Altocumulus and Altostratus, with some Cirrus drifting above the main cloud layer at times (more so during the evening). A shortwave trough moved through during the late afternoon with a few isolated showers around the area between 4:30 and 5:30 PM. Only a few sprinkles fell from these showers passing by. Witnessed a very pretty sunset with lines of orange-red colored Altostratus below bluish-gray Altocumulus, moving quickly off to the NE. Scattered patches of Stratcumulus moving in from the west, with some distance formations of Stratocumulus off to the east as well. Otherwise, partial clearing at the moment. Mostly cloudy skies for much of the day yesterday with brisk winds out of the north. Accompanying these northerly winds, were lines of dark-based Stratocumulus with scattered tufts of Cumulus fractus moving through later in the day. The visible satellite image throughout the day showed layers of open-cell Cumulus over by the lakeshore, associated with lake effect showers. Some of these showers developed just to the west of us later in the afternoon, moving N-S across western Mecosta and eastern Newaygo County. We were hoping to see some glimpses of the sun, but the low ceilings prevented this from happening. A few breaks in the low clouds later in the afternoon, but for the most part this northerly flow (along the backside of the exiting upper trough), continues to push in low level moisture over the region. With weak ridging expected to build in later today and tomorrow, we should start to see some more breaks in the clouds before this next system quickly moves into the area early next week. 10/27/2016 8:00 AM 0.89 1.2 0.33 0.5 0.24 Overcast this morning with low Stratus ceilings present. Temps are right at 34° at the moment, with no precip falling. Looks like the rain moved out shortly after 6 AM. The first snowfall of the season to report this morning. I'm a bit surprised to be reporting this much snow this early, but I guess anything can happen if conditions are right, and we were primed for some decent snowfall accumulations around the area yesterday. The original forecast had little to know accumulation expected, but that has not been the case. Rain started yesterday after 9:45 AM, quickly changing over to snow by noon. Low Stratus ceilings spread over the area accompanying the mix of precip. The snow that fell was heavy at times reducing visibility to less then a half a mile in some areas. Accumulation of snow was around a half an inch by 4PM, with another half an inch falling between 4 and 9PM. The new snowfall recorded is from an average of three locations, coming out to about 1.2 inches of snow from this system. At 9PM the total snow depth was right about at 1.6 inches on the ground, but I believe the grass helped to prop-up that total a bit. Temperatures remained just slightly above the freezing mark all day yesterday, which helped keep the precip more toward the snowy side. A mix of rain/snow after sunset with temps rising only slightly during the night. Averaged the total snow depth this morning to come out with about 0.5 inches on the ground. A trace of snow in some areas upward to an inch in the open areas.....8 AM Ob.....Present Wx: N/A | Sky Condition: OVC007 | Visibility: 10SM.....Ambient Wx Station Data.....Wind: WNW @ 5.1 MPH | Temp: 35.1° | Dew Pt: 33.3° | Humidity: 93% | Altimeter: 30.07 inHg (rising) | Solar: 0 w/m² | 24 Hour Precip: 1.04 in | 24 Hour Trends.....High Temp: 39° | Low Temp: 33° | Max Wind: 15.9 MPH / Avg Dir: SE

A weak cold front passed through yesterday around 3 PM following the passage of a warm front which helped to boost temps into the upper 60s. Mostly cloudy skies for much of the day with low ragged Stratus during the morning transitioning to Stratocu later in the afternoon. 11/24/2016 8:00 AM 0.45 T T 0.0 0.00 Nearly a half an inch of rain to report on this Thanksgiving morning. That's certainly something to be thankful for today, because we've been running a bit dry during the month of November. A rather dreary morning with some mist and an overcast Stratus ceiling present. Temps have been hovering right around 34°for the last 18 hours or so. Rain ended sometime last night. Based off the radar, it looks like the last batch of drizzle pushed through around 4 AM. Some snow did fall yesterday morning, but it quickly melted as the precip changed over to rain by early afternoon. A bit of freezing rain at times during the morning as well. Looks like the main line of showers just pushed through shortly after 4:45 AM (based off the radar loop). Some breaks in the clouds yesterday with Cumulus fractus prevailing during the day, accompanying higher wispy Cirrus drifting by. Winds are picking up out of the WNW-NW this morning as opposed to the predominently westerly winds experienced yesterday. I weighed the outer funnel this morning to come up with the 0.02 inches of precip. Precip was in liquid form amounting between 0.01 and 0.02 inches, so I'll go with the weighing method which takes into account the drops of precip along the sides of the gauge. Temps are hovering just above the freezing mark at the moment with a blanket of Stratus present. Winds are fairly light out of W-WSW. Light snow flurries started fall right around 2 PM yesterday, with heavier snow bands rolling through after 3 PM. The snow quickly accumulated to nearly 2 inches by 7 PM and a 4 inch total on the snowboard (exactly), by 10 PM. Snow ended shortly before 2 AM. Snow total on the board reads 3.6 inches this morning, so we lost nearly a half an inch from melting/settling since I last read the board at 10 PM last night. Snow depth readings around the area are right around 4 inches in spots. Weighing the outer gauge and melting the snow in the gauge, came out with the exact same reading.
