Raining (!!!) at obs time yesterday, then about 7:27am, bam! switched to snow just like that, no intermediate mix! Suddenly the sound of rain stopped, I looked out window & it was snowing! Very grey all day yesterday but warm, so, more rain. (!!!) Turn to snow overnight, finally. This morning actually seems like it might be a winter type of day for a change! No frost.
Lost a little snow from gauge, so that value might be a little low. But, it still would've been much less than the other measurements, there wasn't much snow in there to loose, looked like only a fraction got in (wind). So, I don't figure it would've been more than another 0.01" or so of swe. It was frozen in, trying to pop it up & it popped right out & fell on the ground! The snow board was relatively low too, wind again I presume. I would say the total snow on ground is the most accurate representation of new* snow for sure, since most everywhere looks like a couple+ inches or so. (*Taken from an area where no old snow was). |

Yesterday: Morning - drizzling at obs time, graupel at 9:55am, change to bits of ice, then ~10:15am snow. That grew to have the biggest splattiest snowflakes (like the pigeons of the snow gods were flying overhead) I can ever remember seeing at ~10:35am. Back to regular snow, then sunny by ~10:45am. A bit foggy ~11am probably steamy evap from ground rather than clouds. All melted by 11:26a. Noon overcast again, then in afternoon, 313p more graupel, including a heavy graupel storm like a thundershower but with graupel, 340p more snow. A couple of good thunderclaps too. (Not sure if more rain in there too, don't remember!) Evening/night - more snow (& rain?). Measured new snow at 4pm - so it only got what was there then - morning was already melted & evening didn't last till obs time - so the new snow measurement is low! This morning - mostly cloudy, wet! |

Super hazy from smoke from Pacific NW &/or CA &/or elsewhere. Was like early morning light late into the morning, & similar for later afternoon looking like later eve light, & small afternoon fair-wx cumulus almost blended into the sky. Could finally smell it too late afternoon. Orange moonrise. Cool (50s!), breezy, & still smokey this morning. |
