Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
10/1/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Light rain fell yesterday morning. In the afternoon, the sun came out and made for a delightful fall day. On tap for today is mostly cloudy with some possible showers developing in the afternoon. High in the mid 60's. Currently it is 55 degrees with 90% humidity. On the radar, there is a band of showers heading to the northwest. Looks like the bulk of it will miss us.
10/2/2016 8:00 AM 0.25 M M M M Two periods of heavy rain yesterday; mid morning and mid afternoon. The sun made an appearance late in the day. This morning the sky is clear and it looks to be a nice day though there is a chance for thunderstorms this afternoon after 3 pm. We'll see - so many of these are hit and miss.
10/3/2016 8:00 AM 0.29 M M M M Most of the rain fell during a thunderstorm that came through yesterday afternoon (see thunder report). Current conditions: light sprinkles with sun shining; temp is 56 and humidity is 97%.
10/4/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Lots of showers around yesterday, but not so much at this station's location. I was over in Fairport yesterday and there was quite a bit of rain on the roads. Today is on tap to be sunny and warm (71). Foggy this morning with lots of dew on the grass.
10/5/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another early October day with temperatures above normal - in the mid to upper 70's. I'm loving it but the trees aren't sure what to do. Still a lot of green leaves around.
10/6/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cloudy this morning though it was clear at 6 am because I could see Orion very clearly. Today is supposed to have highs again in the mid 70's with lots of sun.
10/7/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful morning. Sun is shining, breezes are just right, and the temp is heading toward the upper 70's. What a contrast to what is going on down in Florida with hurricane Matthew.
10/10/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cold day ahead with a projected high of 54. However, if the sun can shine without interruption, I think we may get a bit warmer. Frost warning for tomorrow morning. Frost report coming if that happens around here.
10/11/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cold this morning with frost on rooftops. Looking forward to all of the sunshine and temps in the mid 60's.
10/12/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/13/2016 8:00 AM 0.06 M M M M It is still raining at the time the reading was taken. Winds are currently calm but were from the south around 7 am. 7 am is also the time that the rain started. The cold front has not gone through our area yet.
10/14/2016 8:00 AM 0.15 M M M M All precipitation occurred yesterday 10/13. This morning is clear with a sunny day in store with temperatures in the mid 50's. No chance of rain for today.
10/15/2016 7:48 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Slight frost this morning on the rooftops. The rain gauge is covered with dew. Currently we have a light breeze with clear skies, a temperature of around 35 with 96% humidity. Temperatures are expected to reach the low 70's.
10/16/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M very warm night with a low near 60 degrees. Rain due today.
10/17/2016 8:00 AM 0.19 M M M M Foggy, dark and gloomy this morning. Lots of leaf color change seemed to happen overnight. We had a warm and windy day yesterday.
10/18/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M All of the rain fell on 10/17 in the early AM. Today is predicted to be very windy with highs in the 80's which could be a record breaker.
10/19/2016 8:00 AM 0.09 M M M M Sky is clear this morning. Rain fell after 4:39 pm yesterday. Prediction for today is sunny with highs in the upper 60's. Going forward it looks like a few days with heavy rain and much cooler temps. Hopefully, we will get some substantial rain to abate the drought.
10/20/2016 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Light rain is falling. The day is supposed to be all rain. Hopefully, this precipitation will start to make a dent in our 6" rain deficit for the year. High projected to be in the upper 50's.
10/21/2016 7:55 AM 1.46 M M M M It is raining very hard at time of reading. By looking at radar it appears that this intensity of rain could be continuing for awhile. This storm is a drought drencher!!
10/22/2016 8:00 AM 1.81 M M M M It rained all day yesterday and through the night. Right now it is a light to moderate rain that is falling. Temperature is currently in the upper 40's. Rain is supposed to tapper off today but looking at the radar it looks like there may be a lake affect band that is impacting us right now.
10/23/2016 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Breezy, cloudy and cool this morning.
10/24/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M A short respite from the rain. Right now it's cloudy, cool (upper 40's), and breezy. Heading into a cool spell with the forecast not including any days above 50.
10/25/2016 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Quick in-and-out showers have been occurring. Cloudy and breezy this AM with a temp in the lower 40's. It seems that there is rain in the forecast for the forseeable future. What a change from a couple of weeks ago when we were getting no rain. There's been a noticeable pattern shift.
10/26/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M I didn't realize that we had received any rain since yesterday until I went and checked the rain gauge. I know there were some sprinkle drops on top of the garbage container. Cool and cloudy for today.
10/27/2016 8:00 AM 0.03 0.3 0.13 M M First snow of the season. Heavy wet snow was falling at 5:40 am. Huge snow flakes falling on trees many of which still have their leaves. My magnolia tree has lost no leaves and is still green. The large leaves are holding on to a lot of snow. Hopefully we won't get any branches breaking. There is a gusty breeze as well. Currently the temperature is 35 with rain falling.
10/28/2016 8:00 AM 0.26 M M M M Snow that fell yesterday morning has all melted. In fact we should be getting a warm up next week. Right now, cloudy with a temp in the upper 30's.
10/29/2016 8:00 AM T M M M M Just a few drops of rain on the inside of the gauge. Windy and warm today but cloudy with a slight chance of rain later on in the day.
10/30/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
10/31/2016 8:00 AM 0.10 M M M M All of the rain fell on October 30th. We had widespread frost this morning with a temperature of 32 at the time of the reading. Clear skies and a high in the upper 40's is expected for today. We are projected to have a warm up starting Tuesday and going through Thursday.
11/1/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Light frost observed this morning. Projected to be in the mid 60's today. No rain in the forecast.
11/2/2016 12:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No frost this morning. In fact the overnight low was about 58 degrees. That's quite the change from yesterday when the low was 32 with frost. Annuals are still blooming. No killing frost yet.
11/3/2016 8:00 AM 0.87 M M M M Steady rain falling at time of reading. Low clouds with a slight wind. Very gloomy. It's predicted to rain much of today. Current temperature is 54 with this temp being the high for the day.
11/4/2016 8:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Beautiful morning. All rain measured fell yesterday (11/3). Currently 46 degrees with partly cloudy skies and very little wind. Looks to be a bright day in comparison with yesterday - very gloomy for the most part.
11/5/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Partly cloudy today with temps in the mid to upper 60's. Very small chance of rain. Slight breeze. Beautiful fall day.
11/6/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Beautiful fall day with lots of sun, cool temps, and no chance of rain. Leaf colors are spectacular. Highs to be in the low 50's today.
11/7/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cold start to the morning with a low of around 33. Prediction for highs in the mid 60's this PM with no chance of rain. My magnolia tree leaves are finally starting to turn color. Very late this year.
11/8/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain for election day. Sunny with a temp in the mid 40's which is expected to reach the mid 60's this afternoon. Light breeze. Projected to get some rain during the late night hours.
11/9/2016 8:00 AM 0.08 M M M M possibility of continuing rain through this morning. I think we have already reached the high of 49 degrees. Temps are projected to fall through the day. Many of the leaves have fallen from the trees. It's now looking like the end of October as far as leaf cover is concerned.
11/10/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another beautiful day on tap for today. Highs in the 60's with no rain predicted. Leaves are falling, but no wind to speak of.
11/11/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
11/12/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny day forecasted. No chance of rain with the highs in the mid 40's. Current temperature is 32 but there is no frost evident.
11/13/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Breezy during the night. Current temperature is 44. Another sunny day with temps in the mid 50's is on tap. No rain in sight until mid week.
11/14/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another sunny, dry day on tap.
11/15/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M High clouds right now with a temp of 35. Predicted to be sunny day with highs in the mid 50's. Slight chance of rain this evening. We need it!!
11/16/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cloudy this morning with a slight chance of rain this afternoon. Currently 48 degrees.
11/17/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M I thought there would be at least a trace amount of precipitation in the rain gauge since we had a fine misty type rain yesterday. But there was nothing there.
11/18/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Could reach a record high today - above 71. Currently a light breeze, sunny, and temp of 45. A change in the weather pattern should be happening this weekend bringing cold and snow. Raking the last of the leaves today.
11/19/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain but that could all change today. There is a snow advisory in affect for the next 2 days starting tonight and going through Monday late day.
11/22/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 0.8 0.20 2.8 0.34 Lots of blowing snow all day 11/21 into this morning. Some of the gusts yesterday were well into the 40 mph range. It appears that most of the lake effect snow bands were to the south and east of this station. My street runs west to east and the wind was so strong that it was difficult to walk. The temperature was in the low 30's. The schools in my town, Gates, were open yesterday. Most schools on the east side of Rochester were closed yesterday. Currently the temp is right about freezing with very light snow and winds around 10 mph.
11/23/2016 8:00 AM T 0.0 M 3.4 0.18 Blowing snow continued yesterday morning for a couple of hours. No accumulation was measured. Cold with temps in the 30's. Sun came out in the afternoon which melted some snow.
11/26/2016 8:00 AM 0.08 M M M M Gray, cold, and damp. Light rain is falling intermittently. Temp is around 39 degrees.
11/27/2016 10:00 AM 0.15 M M M M Showers came through at 8 am. Cool and damp with breaks of sun. Current temperature near 40 which is the projected high for the day. Looking at the radar it appears that the rain is done for today.
11/28/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M The precipitation fell during the morning and early afternoon hours of 12/27. Sunny this morning with incredible cirrus clouds.
11/29/2016 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Partly cloudy skies this morning. Rain fell last evening and this early morning. Warm right now with temp in the lower 50's. Projected high in the lower 60's. Nice!! Rain is not expected again until tomorrow.
11/30/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cloudy with temp of 45. Rain showers are expected later today with a chance of rain/snow in the forecast for the next six days.
12/1/2016 8:00 AM 0.38 M M M M Gusty storm came through during the overnight. It poured rain for a short period of time. In the city, there is some standing water in roads due to the leaves clogging the drains. Current temperature is in the low 40's. It was in the 50's earlier in the night.
12/2/2016 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Rain fell yesterday morning. Current temperature is 40 with a wind of 16 mph out of the west. Feels much colder than it is. Partly cloudy skies which will give way to the chance of precipitation this afternoon.
12/3/2016 8:00 AM 0.06 M M M M A mixture of rain and snow showers has been falling since approximately 8:30 last evening. I was traveling about town this morning and some of the showers were heavy. Right now no rain/snow but more expected after 5 pm. 40 degrees with an almost calm wind.
12/4/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M All precipitation fell yesterday in rain/snow showers mostly during the morning and early afternoon hours. This morning is sunny with temps in the upper 20's. Frost covered about 75% of the grassy surfaces. Forecast calls for rain/snow overnight tonight.
12/5/2016 8:00 AM 0.12 0.4 0.12 0.4 0.12 At 5 am snow was falling in huge flakes. very "heavy" wet snow. Currently (8 am), no snow is falling. It is breezy with a temp around 38. It appears from the current radar that we will be getting no new precipitation. The snow that is on the ground is melting quickly. It's interesting that the gauge measurement and the core measurement are the same.
12/6/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 All the snow that fell Sunday/Monday has melted. Rain gauge was empty but frozen by frost to its holder. Currently clear with a temp near 26. No wind to speak of.
12/7/2016 8:00 AM 0.38 0.0 M 0.0 M Last evening at 8 pm there was a mixture of snow and rain falling. Continued overnight. Earlier this morning there was snow on the ground but it has mostly melted. There was no snow left on the snowboard. However, there is patchy snow on the ground. I'm leaving the new snowfall fields blank since my snowboard was empty. However, where there is snow remaining on the ground, it measures in at .1 of an inch.
12/8/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cloudy and brisk this morning with a temp of 34. It looks like the lake effect event scheduled for today and tomorrow won't be a big deal. The NWS has downgraded the Lake Effect Watch to a Lake Effect Advisory. We're due only a couple of inches by Saturday morniing. The sun may even appear this afternoon.
12/9/2016 8:00 AM 0.05 1.9 0.11 1.9 0.11 We currently have a lake effect snow advisory through tomorrow morning. Light, fluffy snow is falling.
12/10/2016 8:00 AM T T T 1.6 M Despite the lake effect snow warning, no measurable snow fell overnight. However, a more steady light snow has started falling. Very cold with temp around 20 with a projected high in the upper 20's. I will take the total SWE measurement once a week on Mondays as we did last year.
12/11/2016 8:00 AM 0.02 0.1 0.03 1.4 M On and off bands of flurries came through yesterday. I am assuming lake-effect in origin. Wind kept the snow from falling in a regular pattern. But I think my snowboard is pretty accurate. Cold today. Current temp is around 25 with a high projected to be around 30. There is a winter weather advisory for this afternoon through early tomorrow morning.
12/12/2016 8:00 AM 0.42 4.5 0.48 5.4 0.62 Light to moderate snow starting yesterday afternoon through early this morning. (It was snowing at 5 am.) At the time of this reading, the snow had stopped but it was foggy with a temp near freezing (32). It appears to be a wet snow. High is projected to be in the upper 30's. We may actually see some sun this PM!!
12/13/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 2.5 M Temperatures yesterday rose into the upper 30's so there was a lot of snow melt. Temp right now is right around freezing with a projected high close to where it is right now. There is a frozen crust on top of the remaining snow. Very cold temps due for the rest of the week.
12/14/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny morning. Snowboard is "messed up" so my readings for total snow will not be valid.
12/15/2016 9:00 AM 0.12 5.2 0.34 6.0 M Snow squalls this morning due to lake effect. Very snowy with limited visibility. Winds have picked up. Temp is cold at 12. Snow has let up a bit right now at 9 am. It's supposed to start snowing again later this PM. UGH
12/16/2016 8:00 AM 0.21 8.5 0.39 13.0 M Light flurries are falling right now. It was clear earlier this morning at 5:30 am. No wind to speak of but cold with temp near 15 degrees. Looks like we got storm totals of 8.5 inches. Last night the weather was brutal with so much wind and snow falling. Visibility was about 1/4 mile if that. No unnecessary travel was advised. Today we're back to normal with snow covered roads but plows have made their way through and everything seems to be passable albeit slow.
12/17/2016 8:00 AM 0.27 2.9 0.35 13.0 M The new snow has fallen since 4:30 am this morning. There was only a fraction of an inch on the snow board at 4:30. We are still receiving a light snow. Moisture content does not seem high in the new snow. Cold with a temp near 20. The forecast calls for warmer temps this afternoon with the snow turning to rain.
12/18/2016 8:00 AM 0.34 0.0 M 8.5 1.53 We did received some snow yesterday but it quickly melted with the rain that started yesterday afternoon. The snow that is remaining on the ground is very wet. I will contribute an SWE for the total snow later when the snow in the tube is melted. Supposed to get freezing rain, sleet, and then all snow today as the temperatures fall from above freezing (33) to who knows where :). It's going to be very icy going because all surfaces are very wet right now and when they freeze it will be very slippery for cars and people walking.
12/19/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 0.5 0.01 8.0 1.14 Currently it is cloudy with minimal wind and a temp near 12 degrees. Forecast calls for high in the mid 20's with sun. Yesterday was a mixture of rain, freezing rain, and snow. Right now walking is very treacherous since all of the rain has frozen. Getting the rain gauge was like walking on an ice rink - except bumpy. The roads have been salted so car travel is fine. Not sure about parking lots though. The SWE content for total snow was made up of layers of snow and ice. The new snow was very light and fluffy. Total SWE will be entered later once the snow has melted in the tube.
12/20/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 8.0 M Clear and cold with minimal wind. Current temp near 18. Forecast for a sunny day with temps near freezing point. Saw squirrels and a rabbit out and about in the back yard. Haven't seen them for almost the last week. Coating of ice covers the snow so it's more easy for them to get about. No birds around, except crows.
12/21/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 7.0 M Yesterday the parking lots and other untreated surfaces were ice covered. Very treacherous walking. Yesterday it ended up being mostly cloudy so not much ice/snow melted since the temperature was mostly below freezing. Today it is clear and is forecast to remain clear with temps getting into the upper 30's. The snow is covered with an ice sheet making it easy for dogs and other critters to walk on top of the snow. Total snow depth is measuring at 7.2 inches. Believe it or not, I just saw a small flock of robins.
12/22/2016 8:00 AM 0.07 0.6 0.08 8.0 M Snow fell overnight. Right now we have overcast skies with an above freezing temperature near 35 degrees. That is also the projected high for today so we should see falling temps. The depth of total snow measures 7.8 inches. After today we should begin to see higher temps so there should be a lot of snow melt. Saw two flocks of robins yesterday; one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Not sure if these guys are staying around for the winter or are on their way south. Flock of crows typically flies west in the morning and flies east in the afternoon before dusk. Not sure where their roost is.
12/23/2016 8:00 AM T T T 7.5 M Misty rain yesterday but only for about 1 hour. Windy this morning with a temp above freezing at about 34 degrees. Temps today are projected to reach 40. Sidewalks and untreated surfaces are becoming more passable as the ice turns more slushlike. With sun that we get today we should get a fair amount of snow melt.
12/24/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 5.5 M Had some steady rain this morning but it has let up now - 12 Noon. Warm with temps about 40 degrees with a projected high right around the 40 degree mark. Breezy with flags flapping and sometimes being straight horizontally. Lots of bird activity yesterday. About 25 crows in my backyard. Also, a flock of blackbirds came to roost for a short period of time. And once in awhile I see a robin. Snow melt is proceeding with still enough remaining on the ground for a white Christmas.
12/25/2016 8:02 AM 0.02 0.0 M 2.5 M Light rain fell yesterday morning. Lots of snow melt overnight. Current temp is close to 37 with a projected high today of 33. So, I don't believe the temperature will be changing that much throughout the day. Snow cover still covers all of the ground except for under evergreen trees.I have not noticed any ponding of water and the ground still feels frozen when I walk on it. So, we have a white Christmas today. Merry, Merry to all of you!
12/26/2016 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 2.5 0.76 It has just started raining. No freezing rain since the temperature is around 36. It was hard getting the core for the total snow on the ground since there was a layer of ice that I couldn't get up. As a result the melted value from the core will be an estimate. More wildlife out and about. Saw some deer in the woods behind my house and the proverbial bunny was in my front yard. The high today is supposed to reach near 50 which will lead to a lot more snow melt.
12/27/2016 8:00 AM 0.10 0.0 M 0.0 M Massive snow melt yesterday through last night. There is no snow left on the ground except for the extra snow mounded up by the plows. Temperatures yesterday were in the upper 40's with gusty winds. The winds continue this morning with a temp near 40. The wind was so strong that the crows on their morning east to west route were flying sideways. One crow that tried to fly directly into the headwind remained stationary in the sky until he gave up and was swept sideways to the north. Winds are out of the southwest. The top layer of ground is soft but the layer underneath is still frozen. Temperatures are forecast to be right around freezing for the rest of the week with a chance for lake effect starting Thursday.
12/28/2016 8:00 AM 0.01 0.1 0.01 0.1 0.01 Light flurries falling right now. Temp is below freezing at about 29. Only a dusting is covering the paved surfaces (driveways and sidewalks). On grassy surfaces the snow is hidden by the height of the grass. The melted snow in the gauge was very close to a Trace. A single drop of water made the difference and bumped it up to .01. Still breezy though the crows did not seem to be having any problems this morning as they traveled east to west.
12/29/2016 8:30 AM 0.08 1.1 M 1.1 M Any snow that had fallen yesterday melted yesterday. This morning, the SWE for the total snow on the ground is the same as for the SWE for the new snowfall. It's snowing right now with a heavy, wet snow mixture. Temperature is 33 with a projected high of 38. The current radar shows precipitation happening for at least the next couple of hours. I'm not sure if this precipitation will be snow or rain due to the temperature. Beautiful winter scene with the snow sticking to branches and structures. The snow also covers the ground except for under evergreen trees. {EDIT: Observer reported new and total snow of 1.1 both with SWE values of 1.00. SWE value appear to be decimal typos, maybe observer meant 0.10? Changed SWE reports of 1.00's to NA until observer can be contacted to verify. Submission Time Before EDIT: 12/29/2016 8:52 AM CoCoSTAFF DNT}
12/30/2016 8:00 AM 0.04 0.6 0.05 1.3 M A lake effect snow advisory has been issued. At 1:30 am there was a fair amount of snow falling-very large flakes and it was coming down quite heavy. But this morning there have only been a few flurries. The clouds are broken and they are traveling west to east with a fairly steady wind. The wind is about 10 mph. To get snow here from lake effect, we need winds northwest to southeast. Partly sunny and can see blue patches of sky. Right now temp is near freezing and it's not supposed to rise during the day. Ground and paved surfaces are all covered with about an inch or so of snow.
12/31/2016 8:00 AM 0.06 2.0 0.12 2.8 M We had on-and-off again lake-effect snow yesterday. Wind picked up a bit. The snow on the snowboard was not even so I picked a spot for the new SWE that was an average depth. The same is true where I took the measurement for the new snow. I noticed that both yesterday and today when I took the snow depth measurement that the snow stuck to the metal measuring stick. I'm not sure what that says about the snow or the temperature. Right now, it's overcast with very little wind. The current temp is not far from 32. We may be getting rain today with a projected high near 38. The temp is projected to stay above freezing overnight tonight. We should be getting a bit of snow melt since temps are projected to be in the lower 40's on Tuesday.
1/1/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.5 M The total snow depth actually measured .3 with a composition of mainly ice. Today is projected to be sunny and above freezing with a high near 40. I am assuming that by the end of the day the total snow will have melted. The snow on the ground is patchy with green grass showing through in spots.
1/2/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.5 0.13 Yesterday was a beautiful New Year's day with lots of sun and temperatures above freezing. Snow melt continues today with a projected high in the lower 40's. Right now the snow cover on the ground is patchy with green grass showing through on about 1/2 of the ground surface. The snow board is only partially covered with snow (about 45% of the board is still snow covered) but there is a layer of ice under the snow that was very difficult to remove. The total snow SWE therefore is an approximation. The total snow depth should be melted by the time the rain that is forecast for tomorrow arrives.
1/3/2017 8:00 AM 0.06 0.0 M 0.0 M Snow cover is gone except for snow mounds left by plows and shoveling. The light rain started within the 7 to 8 hour this morning. Very foggy and dark right now. The radar showed a small bit of precipitation that should be gone shortly. Steadier rain is forecast for later today. Temperatures should stay in the low to mid 40's.
1/4/2017 8:00 AM 0.58 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Steady rain yesterday from noon time on. Temps are still above freezing so there has been no snow. Very windy this morning with winds blowing from west to east. Crows had difficulty flying again and those that flew below the tree line fared much better than those who were higher up. Very dark sky to the south and radar shows some activity to the south but on radar it appears to be farther away than what I am seeing. Falling temperatures today with very cold weather upon us starting tonight (lows in the teens, highs in the 20's).
1/5/2017 8:00 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Hard winds blew yesterday. There were snow showers followed by sunny skies. Very cold this morning. The amount of precipitation in the gauge is not indicative of what precipitation actually fell. The wind was so strong that most rain or snow was blown in almost a horizontal direction. Today is cold with gusty winds but it is bright and clear right now.
1/6/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 0.1 0.02 0.1 0.02 Very little snow fell yesterday in on-and-off snow showers. The snow is also very light. The grassy surfaces are barely covered since the height of the grass is more than the depth of the snow. Only portions of the paved surfaces have any snow/ice on them. The wind yesterday probably swept areas free of snow. Clear and cold right now with a temp near 10 degrees. Winds seem to be calm for a change.
1/7/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M Very cold this morning - currently close to 9 degrees. Sunny day yesterday so any snow that had fallen on Thursday is now pretty much gone. My snowboard is now only partially covered with traces of snow. I'm not sure if the wind or evaporation removed the snow. Very dry conditions with this cold.
1/8/2017 7:40 AM 0.02 0.8 0.05 0.8 0.05 It was not snowing this morning at 4:15 am but it was snowing by 6:15 am. On and off snow showers all morning. There has been some blue sky visible to the southeast of this station. About 5 miles north of this station and about 1 mile from the lake approx. 9:30 am I was driving on Long Pond Road (north of Latta Road) and there were white-out conditions. The snow contained quite a bit of sleet. By the time I returned to the station there was very little snow falling here. The wind has picked up and the wind chill is frigid (3 degrees). The temperature is about 18. Currently there is a lake effect snow advisory in place until 1 am. I'm hunkered down here at home for the rest of the day. Roads are not good with slippery travel on the main roads.
1/9/2017 8:00 AM 0.03 0.4 0.05 1.5 0.11 Lake effect snow throughout the day yesterday mainly concentrating in the morning. Very gusty winds at time with snow blowing off of the house rooftops. All surfaces are snow covered. Current temperature is 15 degrees with little wind. Cloudy with almost the look of fog.
1/10/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 1.0 M Had some light flurries yesterday but nothing that was measurable. I found nothing new on the snowboard and in the gauge as well. Cloudy right now with some flurries in the air with a temp around 25. Today could be an interesting weather day. We have a winter weather advisory for mixed precipitation until 7 pm tonight and a wind advisory for this evening. There could be a real warm up this week. Today's high temp should be above freezing.
1/11/2017 8:00 AM 0.17 0.0 M 0.0 M 8:00 am This morning all paved surfaces are covered with a sheet of ice making walking almost impossible. I have not made it to the rain gauge yet to get today's precipitation reading. But since it's sunny retrieving the data later in the day will not affect the validity of the reading. Temperatures are above freezing in the middle to upper 30's but the ice is not melting yet. Most of the snow is gone and no snow is left on the snowboard. I will update this post later today. 11 am I was able to get to the gauge and take the precipitation reading. Ice is still covering paved surfaces. It's very strange since the temperature is in the mid 40's. Very risky travel on untreated surfaces.
1/12/2017 8:00 AM 0.05 0.0 M 0.0 M Current temperature is near 56 degrees. All snow and ice has melted. We could break the record high temperature for today which is 58 degrees. Walking on the grassy surfaces the ground is still frozen except for the very upper surface. The ground still feels uneven when I walk on it. We are forecast to get rain today but most of it is supposed to fall south of us. There are flood watches in affect for some southern counties. Keeping an eye on the rain here to see if we get any flooding. Temperatures are forecast to fall during the day after reaching a high during the mid-morning. Tonight we'll see temps in the 20's.
1/13/2017 8:00 AM 0.12 0.0 M 0.0 M Precipitation which fell as rain yesterday was frozen inside of the gauge this morning. Temp is currently around 30 degrees. Ground is frozen and in one location about .5 miles east of this station there was ponding water in an empty lot. There was no such ponding anywhere else near the station. No snow covers the ground or paved surfaces. Only slight precipitation is forecast for today.
1/14/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Cold start to the morning at 19 degrees. Very light wind. Overcast right now with a forecast of partly sunny and a high near 32. Even though we had almost 1/2 inch of precipitation this week, the conditions appear to be dry. No icy spots left over on sidewalks and other untreated surfaces. The ponding in the empty lot .5 miles east of this station is now dried up. There is some water/ice in some of the culverts.
1/15/2017 7:45 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M No precipitation with only a slight chance of snow showers for today. It seems funny to see the ground during January in Rochester NY. We usually have snow cover through the end of March. It will be interesting to see how this pattern continues.
1/16/2017 7:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Clear skies overnight led to widespread frost coverage this morning. (Frost report has been submitted.) Forecast is for a sunny day with a high near 40. First chance of precipitation is for later tonight.
1/17/2017 8:00 AM T 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Just a few drops of rain in the rain gauge this morning. We are in a freezing rain advisory right now but the temperature is 35 so I think we will dodge that bullet. It wasn't raining at 2 am but there were sprinkles at 5:30 am. We could get up to an inch of rain today but since the ground is pretty thoroughly frozen I think we'll just be having run off. Yesterday was beautiful with sun for most of the day until mid-afternoon.
1/18/2017 8:00 AM 0.91 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 There is still a misty rain falling this morning. Heavy cloud deck right now making for a very dark morning. We had heavy rain yesterday with ponding in the low level areas of empty lots. This morning I noticed that the ground is still frozen with only a small layer on top that has thawed. That layer of ground "squishes" when you walk on it so it is pretty saturated. Current temp is in the upper 30's and we probably will not go below the freezing point for the next five days. January thaw?
1/19/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Very light mist this morning. My rain gauge was bone dry even though there has been light precipitation through yesterday and last night/this morning. If there was even a drop in the gauge I would have recorded Trace. But there wasn't even moisture on the outside of the gauge so I'm leaving the record at 0". Ground is pretty wet but still frozen in the lower layers. Cloudy with temps currently in the mid 30's. Temps should be pretty stable all day with clouds and little sun forecast.
1/20/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Another grey day but appears it will be precipitation free. Temps above freezing for today. Current temp is 36 degrees. We are projected to get some rain this evening. Ground still wet and underlayer of frozen.
1/21/2017 8:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M Grey day with a low solid cloud deck. Temps are already in the mid 40's. Foggy and misty has produced the precipitation in the rain gauge. Ground feels solid under foot with no moisture appearing when you walk on it.
1/22/2017 7:45 AM T 0.0 M 0.0 M Dense fog this morning with temperatures in the lower 40's. The fog is coming off of Lake Ontario. My brother lives about 100 yards from the lake and they have had fog for the last 4 days. There is also a very light mist in the air. So, I'm not sure that the minimal amount of water in the rain gauge was from the fog or the mist. So I made the executive decision to say that a Trace of precipitation fell in the last 24 hours. The ground is squishy with moisture when you walk on it. The temperature yesterday was in the 50's.
1/23/2017 8:00 AM T 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Foggy and misty for a good part of yesterday. A couple of rain drops fell on my windshield when I was driving about .5 miles from this station at 4:45 pm yesterday. But the precipitation did not continue. This morning it is damp with paved surfaces wet. Ground is no longer feeling frozen. Temperature is above freezing and is in the lower 40's with the temperature not really going anywhere today. Winter storm advisory is in affect for tonight through tomorrow. Accumulations of snow should be in the 1 to 4" range.
1/24/2017 8:00 AM 0.35 0.3 0.26 0.3 0.26 At the time of this reading, moderate snow is falling. AT 4 am rain was the form of precipitation. It was above just above freezing at that point so I don't think we had freezing rain, but there is a layer of "slush" below the new snow. The rain gauge is covered in ice on the outside and inside where the rain has frozen. It is currently 33 degrees. Snow is very wet. Winter storm advisory is in affect until 7 pm this evening (which is an extension of the advisory by 3 hours from yesterday) with temps staying in the lower 30's today. Tomorrow's high is projected to be near 40 so we may be getting some melt. Snow fall is sticking to trees and shrubs making for a nice winter scene.
1/25/2017 8:00 AM M 4.8 0.52 5.3 0.54 I am not able to report what was in the rain gauge since the gauge fell over in the sink filled with hot water and the contents were contaminated :(. However, I think the melted values in the New Snowfall and Total Snow will give a more accurate accounting. Sun is out this morning. Snow is very wet with current temperatures above freezing. It snowed all day yesterday and I noticed that the snow was either coming from the east or from the west. The side roads are still snow covered though it doesn't appear to be giving anyone caution. Cars on the street are not slowing down.
1/26/2017 8:00 AM 0.01 0.0 0.00 1.0 M Sun is shining this morning. Very little rain yesterday which fell early morning. Yesterday was a mild day with temps above freezing. The wind this morning has picked up and there is a noticeable swaying of tree and shrub branches. The current temp is in the lower 40's. Lots of snow melt yesterday. The snow board has a small patch of slush remaining. I took the total snow measurement from the ground in my back yard. Today is projected to be warm with temps falling during the day as a cold front is to move through sometime this PM. We could get some snow/flurries later this afternoon/evening.
1/27/2017 8:00 AM 0.04 T 0.01 T 0.01 Yesterday was blustery with a strong wind. I went walking at 9:30 am and even though the clouds were broken there was a bit of sleet in the air. We had some rain which turned to a sleet mixture. In fact the snowboard had a small amount of sleet on it - really no snow at all. This morning it continues to be windy with the sun shining and the temp near the freezing point. There is a chance for lake effect snow through the next four days. Saw a picture on the news which showed a bank of clouds out over Lake Ontario so the winds look to be mainly from the west.
1/28/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Gusty winds again this morning with some scattered flurries in the air. Yesterday was sunny until mid-morning. Clouds seemed to fill in from both the north and south. Winds were so gusty that when I was in my backyard mid-afternoon I had to turn my back to the wind to catch my breath. Flurries fell on and off all day yesterday. Not enough snow to account for any accumulation. Not sure when wind is blowing like this if snowflakes can evaporate, but there is no trace of them left on the ground or on any surface. Temps have not been very cold staying in the 30's. All of the snow on the ground has melted except for a few piles left by snowplows. I did notice when walking on the ground that there is a deep top layer of ground that is not frozen anymore.
1/29/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 1.0 0.04 1.0 0.04 Flurries fell throughout the day yesterday. I was doing errands around town and went through a variety of snow events, but there was nothing serious or widespread. Snow did not interfere with driving or create any slick spots on the roadways. This morning it is cloudy with the snow covering paved and grassy surfaces. The tops of the blades of grass show through the snow cover. Wind does not feel as bad this morning as it was the past few days. Current temperature is in the upper twenties. Yesterday's temperature was close to the freezing point all day.
1/30/2017 8:00 AM 0.03 1.4 0.04 2.0 0.08 Light snow is falling at the time of this report. The snow fell overnight. Very cold temps today with the high in the low 20's. Yesterday was mostly cloudy with patches of blue sky showing through at times. High was in the low 30's and there was a breeze most of the day. Today appears to be wind free. The ground is now all snow covered but not enough snow has fallen to have the plows come through the side streets. The snow is so light that it's water content is minimal compared to its depth.
1/31/2017 8:00 AM T T 0.01 1.5 M Yesterday was cold with highs only in the lower 20's. But the sun came out late morning and melted much of the snow that had fallen the day before. The driveways were clear as well as most of the sidewalks and streets. There is light snow right now with a temp near 21 degrees. The high is projected to be near freezing. The ground is once again frozen.
2/1/2017 8:00 AM 0.07 1.5 0.13 2.5 0.17 The total Snow SWE was taken from the ground per instructions from Cornell. I measured the total snow on the snowboard and found a location in my backyard that matched that measurement. I took the SWE sample from that location in the backyard. Snow depth is variable due to winds. There are some ground spots where the tufts of grass can be seen.-----------------------------------Flurries during the day yesterday with a cloudy sky. This morning looks to be partly cloudy with many patches of blue in the sky mainly located to the south of this station. The wind has picked up and the tree tops are swaying but the wind is not strong enough to affect the crows flying west. Ground is frozen. Not enough snow fell for the plows to come through. Current temp is at the freezing point with a high forecast to be in the mid 30's. We should get some snow melt if the sun stays out.
2/2/2017 8:00 AM 0.11 2.2 0.16 4.0 M Yesterday saw a lot of sun with some snow melt. But between 4 and 5 PM lake effect snow squalls began with some being pretty heavy. However, none of them lasted very long. At times, it became very dark and big snow flakes were falling. Overnight more snow fell when a cold front moved through. This morning it is cloudy and looks foggy in this neighborhood. Plows have been through even though the amount of snow that fell did not reach 3". Hardly any wind. Temperatures are in the low 20's and that's where they are projected to stay for the remainder of the day.
2/3/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 4.5 M Yesterday was variable with snow showers in the early morning changing to sun for most of the rest of the day. Temps were in the upper 20's to low 30's. Some snow melt occurred since I can see pavement on my driveway. This morning is cloudy with gusty wind. The crows are definitely having a hard time flying east to west. Some of them actually turned around and traveled from west to east and were going at a high clip of speed after they made the turn. Interesting to see how the trees behave in the high wind. The green ashes sway with the wind and appear to be very graceful. I have an American Linden out front and it's branches are stiff as boards. Current temps are in the upper teens with the temps only climbing to the low 20's today. Scattered flurries forecast.
2/4/2017 8:00 AM T 0.0 0.00 3.0 M There were just a few flakes of snow in the gauge this morning but no snow on the snow board. We did have some flurries yesterday but the wind was strong. This morning it's sunny with again a strong wind. The wind is causing blowing snow on my street which runs west to east. The wind has also sculpted on the lawn areas patches where the tufts of grass are visible. It almost looks like ripples on water. My band of crows once again had difficulty this morning flying east to west though not as much trouble as yesterday. From the crows' flying maneuvers it looks as though the wind direction may be variable at a higher level. Very cold this AM with a temp in the upper teens. The high today is projected to be in the upper 20's. No snow is in the forecast.
2/5/2017 7:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.5 M Very little wind this morning which is a change from the last couple of days. Temps are in the upper 20's with a high projected to be slightly above freezing. We had some sun yesterday which has contributed to some snow melt. And the wind yesterday caused a lot of blowing snow on my street. Areas of ground are almost bare of snow in spots. Precipitation is forecast for the next few days but temps are forecast to be above freezing which should increase the likelihood of more snow melt.
2/6/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 0.7 0.07 3.0 0.33 Yesterday was cloudy with spotty snow showers all day. Wind was strong moving west to east. I think the wind is what accounts for the difference between the new snow in the gauge and the new snow on snowboard. Temps stayed near freezing (mid 30's all day). This morning is cloudy with a snow shower around 7:30 am. No wind. Snow flakes fell in a vertical straight line 90 degrees to the ground. Current temp in the mid 20's with a high projected to be near freezing. Last evening at dusk about 2 miles east of this station there was a flock of starlings flying in "formation" behaving much as a school of fish. So fluid in their movements. All at once they all landed on a power line. There were over 50 birds all sitting next to each other on the power line in one single line. Fascinating to watch.
2/7/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.5 M Yesterday was a mostly grey day no precipitation. Temps were around the freezing point. Right now is cloudy with very little wind and warmer temps. It's right at the freezing point right now. Currently there is a freezing rain advisory through this morning but currently there is no precipitation falling. Snow cover has been melting with larger patches of ground that have very little snow on them. The high today is projected to be 50 so there should be a lot of melt. Have not seen the crows yet - they usually are flying overhead by this time. I did see a rabbit this morning right before dawn and I heard a chickadee and saw a squirrel in a tree at 8 am. Wind advisory for tonight-trash day is tomorrow :(
2/8/2017 8:00 AM 0.44 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 What a wild ride the last 24 hours have been. Yesterday was all day freezing rain. However the temps were just at the freezing point so we did not get a big build-up of ice, though most of the trees and shrubs were covered with about 1/8" of ice. The mailboxes had icicles dangling from them. At 12:30 am this morning the temp was in the mid 50's with very little wind. At 4:30 am temps were in the mid 40's, and now they are in the upper 30's with a strong wind. Crows have been flying north to south in most cases. Branches are swaying but so far no damage to report. There is no snow left on the ground except for the occassional pile left by a plow. Very quick snow melt but the ground doesn't feel soggy-it still feels frozen. We're forecast to get snow showers later today and then the temps will be in the 20's for the next couple of days. Very "up-and-down" pattern this winter.
2/9/2017 8:00 AM 0.03 0.5 0.03 0.5 0.03 This morning is clear, bright, and cold. Overnight we saw a light dusting of snow that happened earlier in the evening followed by a short lake-effect snow band (around 5 am) that dropped very light and fluffy snow. Appears to be very light in moisture content as well. Noticed in my travels yesterday (within a 2.5 mile radius of this station) there was ponding of water in low level areas. The temperature yesterday settled into the upper 20's after the high of 56 early in the morning. Currently it is 16 degrees with no wind to speak of.
2/10/2017 8:00 AM 0.04 2.0 0.12 3.0 M Sunny day yesterday so that even though the temperatures were in the 20's snow melt was evident with much of the grassy surfaces being exposed. Currently we are in a lake-effect snow warning but most of the snowfall is north and east of this station. Last night it was snowing quite heavily at 12:45 am. By 4 am that snow had changed to flurries. Wind is strong with gusts shaking all tree and shrub branches. I believe that the wind is the factor that caused the difference between the gauge and SWE readings. Wind chills are very cold with temps right around 20. I'm seeing no crows flying this morning. Yesterday there were some bird sightings including possible white-throated sparrows. I have not seen them at all this winter.
2/11/2017 8:00 AM 0.07 0.8 0.10 2.5 M The lake effect snow event ended here yesterday morning around 7:30 am. Most of the day was partly cloudy with some sun peeking through at times. The plows came through in the morning to clear the streets. Around 3:30 pm another round of snow came through with small almost fine flakes. Not enough snow fell for a second round of snow plowing. This morning the temperature is above freezing and there is little to no wind right now. The snow feels more moisture-laden because when you walk on it it "scrunches." Good snow for making snowballs and snowmen. More precipitation is in store for the next couple of days. We could get a round of mixed precipitation this evening and then possibly a winter storm Sunday night into Monday.
2/12/2017 7:30 AM 0.07 0.1 0.07 0.5 M Yesterday was precipitation free with temps in the 30's. This morning there is freezing rain falling. It appears that it has mixed with snow based on what is seen on the snowboard. Very light precipitation and there appears to be little or not ice accumulation on tree and shrub branches. No wind to speak of and it also appears to be foggy. There was quite a bit of snow melt yesterday. The snow on the snowboard has melted from the outside perimeter in about 2 inches. Crows are flying east with no troubles since no wind. Dark and gloomy right now.
2/13/2017 8:00 AM 0.39 2.4 0.29 4.0 0.68 We just came out of a lake effect band of snow. The last 24 hours have seen a variety of precipitation. Yesterday morning started with freezing rain which changed to all rain by early afternoon, followed by snow in the late afternoon/evening. We now have blowing snow with strong winds out of the north/northwest. Temperature is in the upper 20's. Lots of ice at the bottom of the gauge and on the snowboard. Snow that is falling now is very sleet-like. The crows are flying east to west this AM but quite of bit north from their usual path. The plows have been through but looking at the news travel is not easy for the morning commuters. The difference between the rain gauge measurement and the new SWE measurement is due to the fact that the gauge picked up more of the rain/freezing rain. On the snowboard rain seems to roll off.
2/14/2017 8:00 AM 0.01 0.2 0.02 4.0 M Because the snow was so wind-driven yesterday and the amount of new snow on the snowboard was so variable in depth, I took four readings from the snowboard and then found the average. That is how I obtained the .2" for new snow. The wind yesterday was strong but the snow only fell for a bit through the morning. The rest of the day was cloudy with no precip. This morning is partly cloudy with the sun peeking through. We're projected to get a high in the low 40's today so our roller coaster continues. Have not noticed any weather related wildlife activity so far today.
2/15/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 0.0 0.00 2.0 0.39 For Cornell study, I included the SWE for the total snow on the ground. Yesterday the high was in the 40's so there was a bit of snow melt. It was also a sunny day yesterday which impacted the snow on the ground which appeared to be an icy mixture when I took the sample. This morning the temps have settled in the mid 30's but are expected to fall today as a clipper system comes through. It is currently partly cloudy. At 1 am this morning there were sprinkles of rain falling. Not sure how long the precip. lasted. I am not noticing any crows this morning. We may have a lake effect event this afternoon into tonight. Weekend has projected highs in the 50's. Another roller coaster.
2/16/2017 8:00 AM 0.03 1.5 0.07 3.0 M This morning is very cold (temp around 20) with light lake effect snow and lots of wind. Lake effect snow advisory is still in affect until 7pm today. The temperature is a big departure from yesterday and then starting tomorrow the temps will be above freezing and reacing into the 40's and 50's for the next five days. I did notice yesterday that some of my early spring bulbs have emerged especially the very early iris. I also have a Cornus mas (Cornellian cherry) that has swollen buds. But today feels nothing like spring. The strong west to east wind caused the difference in the gauge and SWE readings.
2/17/2017 8:00 AM T T T 3.0 M Cloudy this morning with a slight breeze. I am not noticing tree branches moving in this breeze. Temps are currently in the low 20's. We're moving into a stretch of weather where the temps are going to be significantly above normal. Today will be above freezing and the projected highs for the next five to seven days will range from the 40's to 50's. I am sure that by the end of this stretch all ground snow will be melted. It will be interesting to see how it affects the flora. Yesterday was a pretty quiet day weather-wise ;) with some snow flurries falling every so often.
2/18/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.5 M No precipitation yesterday and it looks like it might continue all the way through next week. Right now it is sunny with no clouds and very little wind with a temp in the upper 30's. We are forecast to have highs reach 50 today which should cause significant snow melt. Temps are projected to be in the 40's to 50's all the way through next Friday where the high might flirt with 60. I'm afraid this warm-up being so early in the season will cause the bulbs and trees to start their spring growth.
2/19/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 What a difference a day makes. Yesterday was quite windy with tree branches moving with the wind and the temps getting into the 60's. Just about all of the snow has melted. There are a few locations where there were drifts or leftover piles from plows that still have snow but everything else is now bare. The high today is projected to be mid-50's. There is wind today but not as strong as yesterday. Small tree and shrub branches are moving but not so with the big guys. It looks like there will be no snow for the next seven days.
2/20/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Clear and cold this morning with the temps right near freezing. Frost covers the rain gauge and about 1/3 of the surfaces. (Frost report submitted.) Yesterday the temps were in the mid 50's with a very strong wind. Pretty much sunny all day. Even the snow mounds in the main store parking lots are dwindling fast. Today is projected to be cooler with highs in the lower 40's but a sunny day. Right now there is little or no wind. Looking like a nice late winter day.
2/21/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Beautiful sunrise this morning with an almost totally pink sky. We are forecast to get some rain possibly this afternoon into tonight. Right now it is cloudy with little to no wind. Yesterday was sunny all day but the temps remained in the upper 30's to low 40's. There was a slight breeze present. I noticed some bird activity yesterday as a number of english sparrows were investigating the bird house. I've not cleaned it from last year's nests so the birds are a little early for me. Some of the buds on the Cornus mas are starting to crack open. The high today is forecast to be in the upper 50's so I'm sure they will open either today or tomorrow. Helleborus is showing more flower spikes near the ground. It is very early around here for this activity.
2/22/2017 8:00 AM 0.04 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 This morning there is a little fog and the gauge was covered with dew. Temps are above freezing so no frost. A record high maybe in our future over the next couple of days with highs projected to be in the 60's. Right now there is a cloud deck to the east but to the west the sky is clearing. Yesterday saw mostly stratus clouds with some thinning in the afternoon. The afternoon saw some filtered sunlight. Rain fell during a short period of time between 7 pm and 8:30 pm. The wind was high yesterday making it feel a lot colder than the registered temp in the 50's.
2/23/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Right now it is partly cloudy with the temps in the mid to upper 50's. Semi-strong wind with branches of bushes moving and some tree branch movement (not a lot). We could break a record high today because temps are forecast to be in the mid 60's. Record I think is 66. We may pick up a lake breeze later today which will bring the temps down. Yesterday saw hazy sun with high temps in the lower 60's. There was a fairly strong wind which made it seem colder. I was out-and-about yesterday with no jacket just a long-sleeve shirt. Very nice for February. Still some lingering puddles in culverts along the main highways but it's dry around here. The ground is wet but is no longer frozen. Local maple sugaring could be affected by this warm weather. No fog this morning which was a concern in the forecast.
2/24/2017 8:00 AM 0.12 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 We broke a high temperature record yesterday with a high of 67. Old value was 66. Yesterday was partly cloudy with a deck of stratus clouds that would thin at times to let some sun through. Right now we are north of a warm front. Our current temps are in the low 40's but we could rise to 70 if and when the front somes through. We could be straddling this front all day long. Currently there are some thunderstorms near by but we have seen nothing here. We do have some light rain falling which started this morning around 4 am. There is a solid deck of stratus clouds with little to no wind. Could be an interesting day weatherwise.
2/25/2017 7:50 AM 0.11 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday had some rain, some sun, some warm temps, and some not so warm temps. Very interesting. In the morning there was a band of showers that dropped most of the rain measured in the gauge. In the morning the high was in the mid 50's. In the afternoon the temp was in the 40's. Around 5 pm there was some heavy fog that came in I'm sure off of the lake. At 10:30 am there was a hard rain falling. Today is the day when we are set to flip back to more seasonal temps. Right now there is a band of showers just to the west of this station. The sky in the west is looking quite dark. The temp is 60 degrees and we will fall into the 40's by evening. Wind advisory in affect.
2/26/2017 7:45 AM 0.28 0.3 0.05 0.3 0.05 Yesterday started off with the temps in the 60's. By 10:30 am the temp had fallen to the mid 40's with a hard rain driven by a strong westerly wind. Most of the rain was finished by 12:30 pm but some flurries started up in the early evening. The rain gauge holds the combination of the accumulations from both the rain and the snow. This morning the temp is in the upper 20's with lake effect snow falling periodically. The grassy surfaces are pretty well covered with snow but the paved surfaces are only wet with no accumulation. The ground is not frozen. We may see some sun this afternoon.
2/27/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.1 0.03 Yesterday saw a few snow showers during the morning which covered the new snow part of the snowboard. The gauge did not hold any snow I believe since the wind was quite strong and the snow was blowing horizontally. However, the temps yesterday rose to the mid 30's with lots of sun and wind through the afternoon. By the end of the day, there was no snow left on the ground. But the snow on the snowboard remained, There initially was some snow on the new snow section of the snowboard but that melted by this morning. Right now we have a moderate wind with tree and shrub branches moving but the sun is out with no clouds in the sky. The temp today might reach near 50 degrees. So, I'm sure that the snowboard will be cleared today. Just a side note: it was reported this morning that this February will go down as the warmest February on record for the Rochester area.
2/28/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday's high reached near 50 degrees so there is no snow left on the snowboard or anywhere else in this neighborhood. Lots of sun shone yesterday as well. There was a brisk wind which did make it feel cooler than it actually was. This morning temps are in the upper 30's with a high projected to be near 60. There is little to no wind. Skies started clear but a layer of stratus clouds has moved in. We may get rain later today. Temps for today and tomorrow will be way above average with temps tomorrow flirting with 70 degrees. Saw a pair of robins chasing each other this morning. I do have iris which will probably bloom today. Very early for that.
3/1/2017 8:00 AM 0.08 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was mostly cloudy with a pretty solid bank of stratus clouds. The temps reached the upper 50's and there was no precipitation during the day. The rain fell overnight. At 2:30 am there was a lot of "heat" lightening (no thunder) and the lightening lasted about 20 minutes. Not sure if that was when the rain fell. Today is cloudy with wet surfaces. Temps are to reach close to 70! It could be another record breaking day. My early iris are blooming - very early for them. Lots of robins around and the crows are no longer traveling in a flock from east to west in the morning. Groups of them are in my neighborhood on and off all day. Big changes in store today with a high wind advisory for this afternoon through tomorrow morning. Temps tomorrow should only reach into the low 30's. Very interesting weather patterns. I wonder what this "back and forth" is doing to the fauna in the gardens and the fields/forests.
3/2/2017 8:00 AM 0.03 0.2 0.02 0.2 0.02 Yesterday morning I had the windows open in the house because the sun was out and the temps were in the 60's. Clouds moved in about mid-day. High winds whipped through our area last night. At least by sound it appeared that the strongest winds happened last night between 7 and 9 pm. At the Rochester Airport a top gust of 64 mph was recorded. About 2 miles east and north of this station, 12 power line poles fell down leaving Lee Rd. closed. RGE says it may be a couple of days before power is restored to everyone. We had flickering lights last night but no power outage here. I am also noticing no tree damage or structure damage in my neighborhood. I do have a garbage bin lid in my backyard from somewhere. I was out at 8 pm and the wind was very strong but the sky was clear showing a beautiful waxing crescent moon setting in the west. The temps at that time were still warm. This morning the temps are in the low 20's a very big change from the 60's of yesterday. Light snow is falling but visibility is poor because of blowing snow. The snow on the snowboard seems to be made up of a lot of sleet/graupel. The snow that is falling now is normal flake-like snow.
3/3/2017 8:00 AM T T T 0.1 M Yesterday was mostly sunny but still very windy. There were snow showers in the morning that looked more serious than they were because of the wind. They provided little or no accumulation. By the end of the day the snow had melted off of the grassy surfaces that were in the sun. My snowboard is not in the sun so that is why there is still some "old" snow on it. The temps reached the mid 30's. This morning started clear. A light snow shower fell around 7 am with the large flakes floating to the ground. No wind at all. We did have some snow overnight that caused a light dusting on the ground. The new snow on the snowboard is uneven with some parts of the board having almost no snow at all. Other parts of the board have a light dusting. The current temps are in the low 20's with highs only projected to reach the mid-20's.
3/4/2017 8:00 AM 0.23 3.6 0.23 3.7 M Yesterday was partly sunny with snow showers falling in the morning. By the afternoon, due to the action of the sun, most of the snow that had fallen had melted. It was windy during the day with shrub and tree branches moving. At 1:30 am snow was falling but there was no wind. At 6:30 am the snow had mostly stopped and the tree branches were covered with a layer of snow making a very beautiful winter scene. Right now the wind has picked up and their might be light snow falling. It's hard to tell since there is quite a bit of blowing snow. The temp is in the mid teens with a high today reaching near 20. The clouds are beginning to break up a bit and there is some sun shining. The snowplows made their first run through about 1/2 hour ago.
3/5/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 3.0 M Very cold yesterday with highs reaching the upper teens. Mostly sunny after morning blowing and snowing. Overnight the low was in the mid single digits. This morning is sunny with little to no wind. Temps in the upper teens.
3/6/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.0 0.21 Yesterday we were in the low single digits in the morning. Today we may reach the mid to upper 50's by this afternoon. Yesterday was cold with some sun and a light wind. Due to the strong sun, the snow has melted on paved surfaces and in some spots on the grassy surfaces. Potholes in the road are becoming more numerous because of the frequest freezing and thawing. Rain is forecast for this afternoon.
3/7/2017 8:00 AM 0.13 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Snow is gone. Yesterday was in the mid 50's with cloudy skies and no precipitation. This morning a round of showers went through as a warm front crossed our area. Temps are currently in the 50's with highs expected to get into the low 60's if there is enough sun this afternoon. We're still on the roller coaster with the warm temps disappearing and cold and snow returns later this week. I can't imagine what these fluctuations are doing to our plants.
3/8/2017 8:00 AM 0.21 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 A cold front came through yesterday with rain that lasted most of the morning. It was a cloudy day with some brief breaks of sun in the afternoon. Temps were in the 50's. Wind was relatively calm. Today starts sunny with temps in the uppper 30's. Winds are picking up with shrub and tree branches moving. There is a high wind warning for most of today. The worst of the winds are projected to be this afternoon. No precipitation is forecast.
3/9/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Wednesday was an amazing wind day. Some of my trim siding blew off from the front of the house. My neighbor lost his shutter and part of his gutters. But in my immediate neighborhood there was no tree damage. I watched most of he wind storm from my front window. Trash totes and trash was blowing down my street which runs west to east. My neighbor's trash tote went flyiing down the street once the wind had knoced it down and opened the top. The tote acted as a sail. Amazing what speed it got to. And all during this wind storm the sun was shining so brightly with just a few cumulus clouds whipping across the sky. I was able a walk at 9:30 am. The wind was not bad at all. There were cirrus stratus clouds that flattened and elongated due to the wind. The major winds began around noon time and peaked in mid afternoon. There were a couple of gust around 2:30 pm when I thought my front windows were going to blow in. Power and internet went out about 1:30 pm. Temps stayed in the 50's to 40's.
3/10/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 No precipitation. Wind continued throughout the day. There was a mixture of sun and clouds. Drove around the neighborhood and there was a number of trees that had fallen. It seemed that the evergreens took by brunt of the damage though there were some deciduous trees that either split or fell over. The round area of soil and tree roots at the base of the tree were pushed up as a unit when the tree fell. Lots of roof tiles were blown from roofs. Noticed a number of houses where the roof was down to the wood sheathing. Found a few roof tiles in my yard but thankfully they were not from my house. I only had to clean up small tree branches from my linden tree in the front yard. Plastic grocery bags are everywhere. Took a few from my rose buses in the front and one from the Cornus mas in the backyard. This morning we had some flurries around 9:30 am. Wind is still strong and the temps are in the mid-20's. Got my power back yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, but still no internet.
3/11/2017 8:00 AM 0.01 0.3 0.02 0.3 0.02 Yesterday was blustery with the winds continuing to blow. Some snow squalls came through making the visibility very low for short periods of time. Temps remained in the the low 20's but it felt like they were in the single digits. Ths morning there is light snow with very small flakes. Wind has died down considerably. It's currently 14 degrees. Just got my internet back :)
3/12/2017 8:00 AM 0.03 0.8 0.06 1.5 0.06 Yesterday was cold with many snow squalls coming through. Some of them were pretty intense but none of them lasted for more than 15 minutes. The winds were again high with shrub and tree branches moving. Temps stayed in the upper teens to low 20's. This morning is again cold but the wind is not so strong. Shrub branches are moving but not tree branches. Stratus clouds are thin enough to let some sun through but look like a pretty solid cloud deck. Temps once again are in the upper teens. No snow or precipitation so far today.
3/13/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 1.0 0.10 Yesterday started out cold and cloudy and ended up cold and sunny. Even though the temps were in the upper teens low 20's, the sun is now strong enough to melt a lot of the snow. The edges of my backyard are now free from snow. Saw some robins and some starlings around my yard. Ground has pretty much returned to being frozen where it is still snow covered.
3/14/2017 8:00 AM 0.28 2.9 0.25 3.8 M Yesterday was cold and cloudy all day. Snow was very light in the afternoon. In fact it was more of a "mist" than actual snow. Very fine. We are now in the midst of a winter storm warning. Steady snow is falling right now. Temps are in the low 20's and that's where they should stay all day. There is little to no wind. Snow is forecast to continue all day today and all through tonight. We're just getting over the wind storm from last Wednesday with almost 3000 people in the county still without power. Some of the traffic lights are still out. Yesterday the light by Emerson and Lee road was under repair. I think these types of events are our new normal.
3/15/2017 7:30 AM 0.53 12.5 1.03 16.7 1.31 Storm totals so far have 15.8 inches of snow. The amount of moisture in the gauge is not an accurate indicator of SWE since the total snowfall amount is higher than the height of the gauge. Heavy snow is still falling with a bit of a wind picking up. The effect of Lake Ontario on the storm is quite significant. In most other areas not influenced by the lake, the storm has moved off to the north in Canada. Snow is now falling in large flakes and is falling west to east. Temps are in the mid teens. No unnecessary travel is cautioned by our authorities. Schools and businesses are closed. The plows have been through our street earlier this morning (before 4 am). Many of the driveways (including mine) have not been plowed since last night so I am unable to get out due to the mound of snow at the bottom of the driveway where the street plow has been. I wasn't going out anyways :) Send good wishes to the rest of the folks in New York.
3/16/2017 8:00 AM 0.13 3.8 0.38 14.0 M The snow depths and gauge measurements are not very accurate due to the amount of wind and blowing snow that we had here yesterday. I have a 4 1/2 foot drift in one part of my backyard near the rain gauge. So there has been redistribution of snow. At least today is not very windy at all with not even brush branches moving. At least the skies are clear with the temps in the mid teens.
3/17/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 11.5 M Nice sunny day yesterday except the wind really picked up during the day. At dawn there was no wind. It was cold yesterday with highs only in the low 20's. Today could be warmer with highs above freezing. We did see some melting yesterday due to the warmth from the sun.
3/18/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 13.5 M Bright sunshine yesterday with the temps getting into the 40's yesterday afternoon. Snow melt continued with the paved surfaces becoming snowfree except for the shaded parts. Today we are supposed to get some snow followed by rain. Temps are forecast for the upper 30's. Current temp is about 30 degrees.
3/19/2017 8:00 AM 0.08 T T 9.5 M Snow fell throughout the day yesterday mainly in the morning and then starting up in late afternoon. In between there was some rain fall as the temps rose into the mid to upper 30's. The snowboard this morning had just a coating of snow on it for new accumulation. I know that there was more of an accumulation but it must have melted. Today is cloudy but the sun has peaked through once or twice. Temps are in the 30's but above freezing.
3/20/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 7.0 1.84 Nice sunrise this morning however stratus clouds have moved in from the west making it a cloudy day right now. Yesterday was sunny with temps above freezing and into the upper 30's, low 40's. Today is the first day of spring and temps are forecast to reach the mid 40's. The snow pretty much covers all of the ground except under evergreen trees. There should be some significant melt today especially if the sun comes back out.
3/21/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 5.0 1.44 Cloudy day yesterday with little wind and temps above freezing - upper 30's to low 40's. Today we may see a little sun but no precipitation is forecast. Slight breeze with only shrub branches moving.
3/22/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.5 M Warm yesterday with lots of sun. The wind started as a slight breeze early in the day and then got stronger as it moved tree branches. The temps reached into the upper 40's low 50's. A lot of snow melt due to the strong sun. A cold front came through with no moisture association. Right now the temps are in the upper teens with the high projected to only reach the mid 20's. With the snow melt, a lot of grassy surface can be seen with the crocus blooming in areas free of snow. Amazing how just two days ago they were under a half foot of snow.
3/23/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.0 M Yesterday was sunny and cold (high around 23 degrees.) There was also quite a bit of wind which made it feel frigid. Crocus and iris that were under snow bloomed yesterday afternoon in the sun. No other changes in flora or fauna. Did see a couple of chickadees flitting about but it seemed as if everyone else was "hunkered down."
3/24/2017 8:00 AM 0.10 0.0 0.00 2.0 M Some sleet was on the snowboard this morning at approximately 6:15 am but when I took this morning's measurements, rain was falling and the snowboard was clear of any accumulation. Yesterday was sunny but cold with a high in the mid 30's. Lots of snow melt in sunny areas with the ground becoming bare, but in the areas not touched by the sun (like my snowboard) the accumulation did not diminish by much. Snow melt came from the bottom of the snow pack. This morning there is a moderate rain falling with temps in the mid-30's. Temperature highs are projected to reach the upper 50's. There is a slight wind. One of our local weather forecasters urged folks to check their sump pumps since we are scheduled to get precipitation for the next few days and with the snow melt, run off might be high.
3/25/2017 8:00 AM 0.09 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Cloudy yesterday with some rain. Highs were in the 50's. The snow pack has pretty much melted. What snow remains is the mounds left by plows and in some cases drifts. It is supposed to be cooler today with highs in the mid-30's. Currently it's in the mid-30's with a light but steady rain falling. The snowboard is empty. Heard my first red ringed black bird. That's a sure sign of spring.
3/26/2017 8:00 AM 0.38 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Chilly, rainy, cloudy with a little wind yesterday. There has been some ponding of water since the snow is continuing to melt along with the additional precipitation. The roads yesterday had "rivers" of water in the grooves and ponds of water in indentations. It made for slow traffic. Even though the temperature was around 34 degrees, we didn't get any snow yesterday. The only snow still remaining is those mounds left by plows. The only snow in the backyard is the mound left when I shoveled the path to the rain gauge. Today is forecast to be cloudy with possible rain but highs could make it into the 50's. Lots of rain in the future forecasts.
3/27/2017 8:00 AM 0.05 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Rain fell overnight. It appeared to start around 9:30 pm when I noticed the beginning rain drops. This morning it is partly cloudy with temps in the upper 40's near 50. There is a strong wind with bush and tree branches moving. Snow melt has continued overnight with only the mounds left by driveway plowing left. The street plowing mounds have melted. High today is projected to be in the lower 60's. Crocus and iris are blooming with abandon!
3/28/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday we had a few sprinkles but the rain gauge had absolutely no moisture in it at all. It was cloudy for most of yesterday with a strong breeze. Peeks of sun came through yesterday afternoon. Temps were in the upper 50's. There is only one snow pile left in my neighborhood. It is in the shadow of an evergreen tree which keeps the sun from shining on it. This morning is warm with temps in the lower 50's. Fog has rolled in but I don't believe it is coming from the lake. Usually lake fog in spring is so much colder than the station temperature. This fog is warm feeling. And the fog is also coming in waves. It will thicken and then dissipate and then thicken again. The forecast calls for temps to pretty much stay steady throughout the day. Currently there is very little wind.
3/29/2017 8:00 AM 0.01 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Periods of light rain yesterday with cloudy skies and little wind. Temps were in the mid 40's. Today starts our foggy but it's not a dense fog. I can see blue sky. So I am sure this fog will burn off quickly. Lots of activity in the bird world. Chickadees chasing each other and there were four male robins in my magnolia tree out front. My garden is leaf covered so they are hanging around to bet at any creatures that are under the leaf cover. Current temp is in the upper 30's. Temps today are projected to be in the mid 40's. No wind to speak of this morning.
3/30/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was mostly sunny with highs in the mid 40's. Very little wind. The air was cool but the sun is stronger this time of year, so being out in the shade you needed a jacket - in the sun you took the jacket off. This morning is cloudy with stratus clouds. Highs again will be in the mid 40's with a lot of rain arriving in the early evening. Over the next 48 hours we could see as much as 1.5" of rain which will I'm sure pond on the already fully saturated soil.
3/31/2017 8:00 AM 0.71 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Rain, rain, we've had lots of rain! The rain started yesterday (3/30) at around 7:30 pm in the form of snow. But the snow melted pretty much as it hit the ground. The temperature was in the mid 30's and did not go below freezing overnight. The current temperature is 40 degrees. There are gusts of wind blowing that move tree and shrub branches. The ground is well saturated. Currently there is a light rain falling which is to continue for the rest of today and possibly into tonight and early tomorrow. Very dark and gloomy with a dense cloud deck.
4/1/2017 8:00 AM 1.06 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 It rained all day yesterday. Bands of light rain followed by bands of heavy rain continued throughout the day. Last night the rain turned into a misty rain but no fog. The wind was strong in the morning but by mid-day the wind had died down to almost nothing. Temps were in the low 40's all day yesterday. We did not go below freezing over night. Right now the temps are in the mid 30's with a misty rain. Ground is very saturated with creeks running over their banks and areas of ponding water. Yesterday an area of my yard with very heavy clay soil was very wet with some water standing on the surface. This morning all of that moisture has been absorbed by the ground so that there is no longer standing water. On and off rain all day today with temps getting into the low 40's.
4/2/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Clear skies and sun this morning. Welcome change from the last few days of rain and dark gloom. We are projected to reach the lower 50's today with lots of sun. Yesterday saw a little rain in the morning. It was more of a mist/fog so little accumulation. Cloudy for most of the day with little wind. The sun did start to peak through the clouds late in the afternoon.
4/3/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was sunny with a slight breeze and temperatures in the upper 50's. The dry weather helped with the absorption of the excess water in ponding areas. My backyard now has no wet spots and the ground feels like it does in late spring. Iris and crocus are blooming with other bulbs showing their green stalks. Today is projected to be in the 60's with a slight chance of rain. Rain should fall overnight. Right now the temps are in the low 40's with a solid cloud deck. Very little wind if any at all.
4/4/2017 8:00 AM 0.68 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was mostly cloudy with breaks of sun as the cloud deck was thinner in spots. There was a pretty strong breeze with temperatures reaching the low 60's. I saw my first chipmunk of the season yesterday afternoon. Partly cloudy skies earlier this morning. But it is now raining with bands of lighter and darker stratus clouds. The radar currently shows a band of showers heading northeast but it appears that most of the activity will miss us. The forecast said we could get thunderstorms during the day. It's windy right now with both shrub and tree branches moving. We have a high wind warning for later this morning through this evening. Our ground is very saturated so there could be more trees coming down in this wind. It looks like we will be getting rain throughout the week with a flood watch for late in the week. Very interesting.
4/5/2017 8:00 AM 0.10 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was a very changeable day. The morning saw showers pass through a few times and warm temperatures. The high for the day reached into the upper 60's. We had a heavy rain making band of showers come through around 12:30 pm with dark skies and wind. The winds became stronger throughout the afternoon with a high wind warning in affect. There was no damage in my neighborhood but I could hear the house creak as wind gusts picked up. There was no precipitation here in the afternoon. The squill, chionodoxa, and wind flowers are now blooming. The daffodils are in bud. This morning it is cloudy with a solid deck of stratus clouds. Today's highs are projected to be near 50. Rain should be starting this evening and run all the way through Saturday evening. Temperatures will be colder with the possibility of some snow on Friday and Saturday. Flood watch is still in affect from tomorrow morning until Saturday afternoon. Current temp is in the low 40's. We could see high's in the lower 70's early next week.
4/6/2017 8:00 AM 0.18 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Low cloud deck of stratus clouds yesterday morning through part of the afternoon. By dinner time the sun was coming out at times. No precipitation yesterday with little wind. Highs were in the mid to upper 40's. Rain started this morning between 4 am and 5:30 am. At times it has been a heavy rain. Again little wind with temps in the lower 50's. A flood watch is now in affect until mid afternoon on Saturday. Maybe we should get out the ark :)
4/7/2017 8:00 AM 1.59 2.5 0.55 2.5 0.55 Heavy wet snow has covered the area. Overnight the constant rain of yesterday turned to wet snow as the temps dropped into the mid 30's. The roads are slushy but not frozen. The current temp is around 34 degrees. It rained almost constantly yesterday with some pretty heavy downpours. Temps were in the upper 30's to low 40's. At 3:30 am there was about an inch of snow covering everything but I'm not sure when the rain converted over to snow. Since the snow is so wet, it is sticking to every branch, shurb, and structure outside. I worry about tree branches and power lines falling due to the heavy weight. Also there is a gusty wind with tree branches moving. It is forecast to snow/rain all day today and into tonight. Hopefully this event will be over by tomorrow.
4/8/2017 7:00 AM 0.09 0.3 0.08 3.5 0.78 Yesterday felt like a day in mid-February. It snowed for most of the day with a gusty wind. But throughout the day the temperature was above freezing ranging from 34 to 36 degrees. It went below freezing overnight. On the bottom of the snow board was a layer of ice. Also, due to the wind and the rain/snow mixture which fell later in the afternoon, the amount of new snow on the snow board was variable. I tried to take the average amount for the reading. I'm not sure that the new snowfall amounts are very accurate. This morning has clear skies with the sun up. Temps are projected to reach the upper 40's so I don't think the snow pack will last for too long.
4/9/2017 7:45 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 1.5 0.56 Yesterday started with a couple of inches of snow cover. This morning there is snow in only a few isolated patches where the sun doesn't reach. Today we are projected to get a high in the 70's so I'm sure by tomorrow morning all traces of the last snow storm will be gone. A bit of wind this morning out of the south. Sunny this morning with beautiful blue clear skies.
4/10/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was sunny and warm where the temperature reached upper sixties to low seventies. There was a breeze yesterday. All of the snow from Friday's storm is gone. This morning it is partly sunny with a slight breeze and temps in the lower 60's already. Bulbs are blooming and my neighbor's forsythia bush is blooming. We're projected today to reach the upper seventies.
4/11/2017 8:00 AM 0.04 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was warm (highs in the 70's) and windy. The day started out with blue skies and lots of sun but by the afternoon a thin layer of stratus clouds had moved in letting filtered sun through. Riots of colors as the bulbs open. It seems that the moisture from last week has seeped into the ground or evaporated because in my neighborhood it doesn't seem to be a problem - no more "squishy" areas of lawn. The rain fell overnight before 3:30 am and currently the temps are in the low 60's. I keep thinking this is May not April. We should not be this warm yet. A cold front is moving through this afternoon and we may get some thunderstorms with gusty winds.
4/12/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Mostly cloudy with spotty showers yesterday with a noticeable breeze. Showers came through mid-day and the rest of the day was rain free. Temperatures were pretty much in the low to mid 60's. A cold front came through yesterday so today's temperatures will be in the upper 40's to low 50's. Right now skies are cloudy with a pretty thick deck of stratus clouds.
4/13/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was cloudy and cool. The sun did peek through later in the afternoon but only for a minute or so and then it was gone again. Highs reached into the upper 40's. Today dawns with clear skies and sun. Temps should reach into the 50's. Bulbs are blooming and lilac bushes are beginning to show the first signs of leaves. My magnolia tree has buds that are swollen showing the deep purple color of the blossoms. Ground has lost most of the excess moisture from last week's rain event.
4/14/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Mostly sunny yesterday with temps in the low 50's. Very slight wind. Today should be about the same with the temps getting a little higher into the upper 50's. Lots of growth in the garden. Peony shoots are visible, daylily growth is coming along, bleeding hearts are getting taller, and the anemones are a carpet of blue. Daffodils blooming along with the hyacinths. Very pretty. Although there is no ponding water in my neighborhood, I did notice yesterday in my travels about 1 mile south of the station that there is still water ponding in low lying areas. Still wet from the precip from a week ago.
4/15/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was sunny with temps in the upper 50's and little to no wind. When out-and-about you didn't need to wear a coat. Some areas in Gates still have standing water but a small creek running under Spencerport Road looks normal in its flow. The creek is not running over its banks but it is rather fast moving. Moisture in my yard is normal. This morning we have a hazy sky with a breeze that moves bush branchs but barely moves tree branches. Temps are cool being in the mid 40's. The forecast calls for temps in the lower 70's with some rain possibly later this afternoon and tonight. Spring is in full swing. Very nice for Easter weekend.
4/16/2017 8:00 AM 0.06 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday, clouds and rain came through the area around 11 am. It turned into a gloomy day with on and off sprinkles/light rain until late afternoon. The sun reappeared around 5 pm. There was a breeze with shrub branches moving. Temperatures warmed up into the mid-sixties overnight. This morning is sunny with a breeze that moves shrub branches but not tree branches. Earlier there were a few cirrus clouds. Now to the west there appears to be a bank of stratus clouds moving slowing into the area. We are due for a cold front to move through mid-day with some possible storms.
4/17/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yessterday was sunny, warm, and windy. Temps were in the mid to upper 70's. The afternoon turned partly cloudy as a cold front came through. This front produced a line of showers that missed the Rochester area by traveling south and east. We watched the radar on the NOAA app on our iphones and saw that our Easter plans wouldn't be rained out. The wind yesterday was gusty and strong. I was getting some items out of my car's trunk and turned around only to get "hit" by a gust that stopped me in my tracks for a minute. But it was a typical spring day and a nice day for Easter. Today is sunny with a strong breeze. The temps are around 50. The high today is projected to hit the mid 50's. The wild cherry trees behind my house are blooming. It is very early for these trees to be blooming. I worry about a frost doing damage to the blossoms or the young fruit. My serviceberry is also getting ready to bloom. The fauna depend on these trees for food during the summer so I hope the weather cooperates in keeping them safe.
4/18/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday had sun for most of the day. At times there were some cumulus clouds that came through and dimmed the sun for a couple of minutes. Temps reached the mid-50's with a breeze that moved shrub and tree branches. Wild cherry trees are in full bloom. Last night the temps were down into the mid-30's. So, the cherry blossoms should be okay. No frost on the ground this morning. Today dawned cloudy with an almost solid bank of stratus clouds. These clouds are supposed to clear out and give us a sunny day with temps about the same as yesterday. Right now there appears to be no wind. Many days start out with no wind but once the sun is up the wind does develop. Lot's of nest building going on with Cardinals, Robins, and English House Sparrows producing the most visible activity around here. The korean lilac bushes have leafed out along with the deutzia.
4/19/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 After the cloudy start yesterday morning, the skies cleared and we had sun for most of the day. The temps were cool only reaching into the upper-40's lower-50's. There was a breeze but of no significance. The low overnight stayed in the 50's. This morning is cloudy and quite breezy. There were a few sprinkles that fell around 7 am but it evaporated immediately. I found no precipitation in the rain gauge. Today is forecast to become rainy but warm with the temps in the lower 60's. Today starts a period when we could receive quite a bit of rain through Friday. The grass has greened up and mowing season has begun.
4/20/2017 8:00 AM 0.24 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday I was able to mow my lawn for the first time this season, although I did it in the rain! It rained on and off almost all day with gusty winds. Some of the rain bands produced heavy rain. The winds caused my shrub lilacs to scrape against the window that they are near. The temps were relatively mild being in the high 50's to low 60's. No rain fell overnight. This morning it is cloudy and cool with temps in the mid-40's. Right now there is no wind to speak of. Lots of bird activity with chasing, posturing and nest building being the most prevalant behaviors. The cardinals are especially busy. The forecast for today and tonight is for overcast with periods of heavy rain developing. We're getting water logged again!
4/21/2017 8:00 AM 1.03 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 We saw heavy rain yesterday. It started raining around mid-day and continued through the evening. A band of storms came through between 8 and 10 pm. Most of the lightening/thunder activity happened south of this station as seen on NOAA radar. A few rumbles of thunder did sneak through to scare the dickens out of my dogs. But for us it was mostly a light show. Yesterday's temps were cold with highs staying in the lower 40's. The temps started to rise during the evening and we're now into the mid 50's. Today is cloudy with a breeze that is sporadic-comes in gusts. But the wind is strong enough to move shrub and tree branches. It is projected to remain cloudy all day with temps possibly reaching 60. All of the plants and grass are so green. Feels like spring.
4/22/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was cloudy and windy with tree and bush branches moving. The bushes against my house were scraping against the window. The temps stayed in the 40's. In the late afternoon (4:30 pm), I noticed a very dark bank of clouds to the north - over the lake. I'm assuming that these were the result of lake effect since the clouds never moved south but stayed to the north. This morning is cloudy with a pretty solid layer of stratus clouds. Wind can gust at times moving tree and shrub branches. Temps are in the lower 40's. It's looking like today won't get out of the 40's as well. We might make the lower 50's if the sun does come out.
4/23/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00
4/24/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday started out very cool with temps in the mid 30's but it was sunny all day. Very little breeze. The temps reached into the 60's making it a glorious spring day. The wild cherry trees behind my house have many blossoms. The serviceberry is now in full bloom and again with many, many blossoms. I think all of the rain that we have had has made it ideal for spring flowering. This morning has dawned sunny with a slight breeze. There does appear to be some clouds coming through-bands of cirrus-stratus clouds. It's interesting to see how the spent bulbs are producing lush green leaves (early iris and crocus) which bodes well for next year's blooms. Highs today are project to be in the upper 50's. We may be getting a lake breeze which in spring always cools things down.
4/25/2017 8:00 AM 0.05 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Clouds yesterday gave way to full sun all day. The air was cool and remained in the 50's due to a north east breeze. But the sun made it feel warm to the skin. It was definitely sweater weather but this type of weather is great for yard work. This morning it started raining around 7 am. Solid cloud deck of stratus clouds with light rain. A very slight breeze is present. Temps are forecast to reach into the lower 60's with the current temp being right around 50. The NWS radar is showing a solid swatch of rain that should be with us for a good part of the day.
4/26/2017 8:00 AM 0.20 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday was very rainy during the first part of the day. It was also cool with a north easterly breeze. The temps in the morning and for most of the day were in the mid 40's. Late afternoon saw a thinning of the clouds with some weak sun and temps moving to the lower 60's. Some sprinkles fell during the early evening at least at 9 pm when I observed them. This morning is cloudy with a solid cloud deck of stratus clouds. Little or no breezes are present. Temps are currently in the mid 50's with a high forecast for the lower 70's. All of the trees and shrubs are leafing out including lilacs, deutzia, hydrangia, paper bark maple, The only trees with swelling buds but no leaves are the linden, locust, and ash. The flowers of the wild cherries and serviceberry are full and in heavy bloom.
4/27/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday started out cloudy and cool but it turned into a sunny day with much warmer temps. Today is very warm so far with the low this morning only in the lower 60's. We could get close to 90 before a cold front passes through. The battle of the seasons.
4/28/2017 8:00 AM 0.21 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Yesterday started out sunny and then clouds moved in later in the afternoon. Very warm temps with a high in the mid to upper 80's. It was breezy. A cold front moved through in the evening around 10 pm. At this station there was no thunder and I didn't notice any lightening. This morning is sunny but cooler with current temps in the lower 50's. There is a strong wind with all plant branches moving.
4/29/2017 8:00 AM T 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 I'm not sure when the little bit of rain fell. It was mostly sunny yesterday with more clouds moving in toward evening accommpanied by a frisky wind. This morning is cloudy with a pretty solid deck of stratus clouds. It was in the 60's earlier but the temperature is falling. Only a slight breeze right now. There must be a front that came in from the north to bring the temps down.
4/30/2017 8:00 AM T 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 It started to rain just as I was taking the reading for today. Yesterday was cool, cloudy and windy. Today is the same except for lots of rain and much cooler. Temps right now are in the lower 40's. Heavy rain is falling and it looks like we could be getting some more throughout the morning. The clouds are moving west to east but the surface wind is east to west.
5/1/2017 8:00 AM 0.87 M M M M We had two rounds of rain come through yesterday; one around 9:30 am with a thunderstorm that left approx. .6 inches of rain. The second storm came through in the early evening with a thunder storm near us but not hitting this station. Totals from that storm were close to .25". Very cool yesterday with temps staying in the low to mid 40's until later in the day near sunset when they rose into the 50's. We are due more rain today with a chance for severe storms later this afternoon. There is a flood watch in affect right now.
5/2/2017 8:00 AM 1.14 M M M M It rained for almost all of yesterday. There was heavy rain during the morning and then a line of storms came through in the late afternoon/early evening and dumped some more rain. I was out in the car at 6 pm and there was a lot of standing water in places I have not seen it before. Two underpasses on 390 south were flooded. One of these sites had a plugged drain which a utility worker was unclogging. Some areas close to this station (to the south and east) had some severe storms move through. Here we got some wind but nothing damaging - and then the rain. There wasn't any thunder or lightening - at least none that I saw. This morning is clear right now but it was very cloudy about 1 hour ago. Hopefully it will stay sunny to "soak" up some of the rain. A wind advisory is also in affect for this afternoon which should also help with drying things out.
5/3/2017 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Very windy yesterday and it's continuing today. Yesterday was cloudy all day with a couple of wind-driven showers coming through about mid-day. Temps stayed in the mid 50's. Today started cloudy but we're now getting breaks of sun. Very cool for May with temps staying in the 40's to low 50's. Good weather to keep the blooms fresh on flowering trees and bulbs.
5/4/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was windy and sunny with very dry air which was great since it helped relieve some of the excess moisture from the ground and grass. I was able to cut my lawn in the afternoon with no clumping grass which is a sure sign of moisture and dew. Temperatures were cooler - in the mid 50's - but because of the sun it felt warm. Today started sunny but clouds have moved in now. Appears to be a solid deck of stratus clouds. Rain is forecast to start early this afternoon and continue on and off for the next 36 hours. We could get another 2 inches. That is an amazing amount of water. Lake flood watch is in affect again for the southern shore of Lake Ontario. I guess there is flooding all along the lake and St. Lawrence river with areas in Quebec getting hard hit.
5/5/2017 8:00 AM 0.64 M M M M Cloudy but rain free for the first half of yesterday with temps in the lower 50's. The rain started as sprinkles in the early afternoon. We now appear to be in a stretch of cloudy, cool, rainy weather lasting into the end of next week. Today started out with a light rain and very cloudy - no breaks in the cloud deck at all - very solid. Current temp is about 50. Ground is saturated and we have a Lake Ontario flood warning. We may be getting snow showers on Sunday and Monday so I need to put the snowboard back out. Oh boy! This weather does not do much for the psyche.
5/6/2017 8:00 AM 1.05 M M M M Yesterday was rainy, foggy, cloudy, and cool. There were bands of heavy rain that came through during the morning. The afternoon saw more spotty rain activity. Highs were in the lower 50's. Fog set in during the later afternoon hours. AT 1 am there was heavy rain falling which I could hear on the garage roof. At 5 am the precipitation was lighter. Right now there is a misty light rain with wind. Temps are in the upper 40's. Very cloudy which is supposed to last all day. The lake flood warning has been discontinued but has been replaced by a flood watch which runs from 4 am Sunday through 8 pm Monday evening. Lake residents are getting battered by the new precipitation amounts and wind out of the north east. Lots of sandbagging and pumping going on. There is a lot of blame placed against the 2014 rule which allowed the lake levels to be higher to protect wetlands. I'm sure this lake ruling will be struck down based on home owners' complaints. For this first week of May we've already had 3.74 inches of rain at this station. Wow!
5/7/2017 7:15 AM 0.37 M M M M
5/8/2017 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Yesterday was windy and very cool. Winds seemed to come mainly from the west. Highs reached into the mid-40's. Light rain showers in the morning gave way to cloudy skies in the afternoon. No snow showers! This morning started out partly cloudy but looks as if it has changed to all cloudy. No wind to speak of. Temps are currently in the upper 30's with highs projected to reach the mid 40's. Due to all of the rain we had (over 4" during the first week of May) all of the grass is so green and it's not growing fast. Because of the cool weather the flowers from bulbs are lasting a long time. The flowers from the Lamia are profuse. Lovely to see. The bleeding hearts also like this weather. A bit of a moderation this week but not much with highs possibly reaching the mid to upper 50's by the end of the week. The flood warning for the lake has been lifted.
5/9/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Was cloudy yesterday with a brisk wind picking up in the afternoon. Temp reached into the upper 40's. No precipitation so hopefully we will begin the drying out process. The plants and grass look great with all of the rain we have been having - very green and lush. Some of the daffodils and tulips are still in bloom as is the magnolia tree. Violets are standing their flowers tall with a mass of color. Today started out very cloudy but is sunny now. Temps are not to get too much warmer than yesterday even with the sun. Right now there is no breeze to speak of. Looks like a beautiful day.
5/10/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday ended up being partly sunny with some great cirrus cloud formations. The clouds looked just like brush strokes. Along with the cirrus clouds were some cumulus stratus clouds. Clouds were moving from west to east. A wind picked up during the day making the temps feel cooler than they were. The high temp ended up being near 50. This morning it is clear and sunny with no frost overnight. There was a frost advisory but no frost on rooftops or cars. There was condensation on car windows this morning. Right now there is no wind with a temp around 40. So, we have a pretty chilly start with temps projected to reach the mid 50's by end of day. A good day to mow the lawn!
5/11/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny day yesterday with a slight wind and cool temps reaching the lower 50's. Some clouds moved in during the afternoon - cirrus. Was able to mow the lawn in the afternoon with no dew on the grass. This morning there was a very red sky when the sun was coming up which turned to gray clouds with a pretty solid covering. No wind to speak of right now with current temps in the mid 40's. Nor'easter hitting the east coast should miss us - at least that is what is forecast. We may see some rain on Friday PM, Saturday and Sunday. Eastern NY should be getting quite a bit of rain. We don't need any more rain with the lake Ontario levels reaching an all time record high.
5/12/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was cool, cloudy, and windy with no rain. I feel like a broken record! Temps reached into the mid 50's. Today is looking to be the same as yesterday. No wind right now but I'm sure it will pick up as the day progresses. Highs are expected to be in the mid-50's again. The rain is supposed to hold off until this evening just in time for the mother's day weekend. Well, this post is beginning to sound like a downer. I need to take a walk around the yard and enjoy the flourishing flora. Everything is so green. My bleeding hearts (both red and white) are making an incredible display this year.
5/13/2017 8:00 AM T M M M M Mostly cloudy yesterday but we did get a few peeks of sun which caused the temps to rise into the low 50's. Very nice day for the opening of the Rochester NY lilac festival. The lilacs are in full bloom and smell incredible! A few sprinkles fell early last evening and this morning is cloudy with a dense covering of stratus clouds. Probably won't get out of the 50's today. And there appears to be a bit of a wind as I can see my shrub branches moving. It feels as if there is a slight mist in the air. Current temp is in the mid 50's and shouldn't rise much throughout the day.
5/14/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was cloudy and cool with temps getting into the upper 50's. The sun came out late in the afternoon/early evening. I was driving around town in the morning and there was a light mist in the air and some rain to the east of Rochester. My rain gauge was totally dry this morning. Today we appear to have clouds to the east of this station. Was out to breakfast in Irondequoit and there was a light mist falling. But here on the west side of town we have sun with some passing clouds. It's currently in the low 60's which has exceeded the expected high of 59. Rain is due this afternoon. So far, at least at this station, it's a good day for Mothers' Day.
5/15/2017 8:00 AM 0.09 M M M M Very changeable day yesterday. In the morning the east side of Rochester was getting some fine mist and the west side was bright and sunny. At this station it stayed sunny until early afternoon when some storms came through producing some moderate wind and heavy rain. These storms were sporadic and short lived. The sky was so interesting as it turned very dark as the storms were approaching. However, at this station we received no thunder/lightening and no hail. Hail was reported by stations near Rochester. The temps stayed in the lower 60's. This morning dawned cloudy but it is now sunny with not a cloud in the sky. There is a light breeze with temps in the lower 50's. We're supposed to reach the lower to mid 60's with mostly sunny skies.
5/17/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Yesterday turned out to be a mostly cloudy day with some spotty showers passing through. A little bit of wind and temps staying for most of the day in the lower 60's. In the late afternoon (6 pm) the sun came out and the temps rose to 66. Overnight the temps stayed pretty steady and they're now back at 66. Forecast for today is sun with temps in the mid 80's. It's breezy this morning and hopefully the breeze with keep on blowing so the temps won't be a shock to everyone's systems - humans, flora and fauna. No rain is forecast.
5/18/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was sunny, windy and very warm. Temps reached into the mid 80's. The wind made it very comfortable. Today is starting very cloudy and some breeze. Temps are still warm with temps starting in the mid 60's. Today is supposed to be sunny with a wind advisory from 11 am through 11 pm tonight. We could see some "interesting" thunderstorms this evening as a cold front moves through. Tomorrow's temps will be in the lower 60's.
5/19/2017 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Yesterday started out windy, cloudy, and warm. The sun broke through the clouds about mid-morning and it was sunny for the rest of the day. The wind continued to be strong and the temps made it into the mid-80's. There was a series of severe thunderstorm warnings as a line of showers came through to the south of this station in early evening. We did not receive any storms but we did receive a small bit of rain which fell sometime before 11:30 pm. This morning it is cloudy though the sun has peeked through a number of times. Very cool and once again windy. Current temps are around 64. I think we may have already reached the high for the day. Humidity is still high at 75%. It looks like this cool spell will be lasting all through next week with highs only reaching into the 60's.
5/20/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Partly sunny yesterday with cool breezes. Highs in the lower 60's. Today is sunny with a slight breeze and temps topping out again in the lower 60's. Saw the hummingbird this morning. Got to get the feeder up!
5/21/2017 7:45 AM T M M M M Yesterday was sunny, very breezy and still cool with highs only in the lower 60's. Even though it was windy near the surface, the jet contrails maintained their shape for quite awhile even though they widened with time. About 3:30 am there were some sprinkles of rain giving us the trace amount in the gauge. Right now the temps are in the upper 50's and we may reach mid 70's today. It is partly cloudy with the sun having peeked through a number of times. Looking at the current radar, there appears to be a line of showers that could come through in the next couple of hours.
5/22/2017 8:00 AM 0.13 M M M M Rainy Sunday with showers throughout the day. Wiindy with temps in the 60's. This morning is very windy with mostly cloudy skies but with breaks of sun. Clouds are fast moving.
5/23/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny yesterday with temps in the 60's but very windy. The wind went on all day. This morning is sunny with temps in the mid 50's. The wind was calm ealier (at 6 am) but is starting to pick up now.
5/24/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Beautiful day yesterday with sun and clouds, no rain, and just the right amount of breeze. This is opinion of course :0. Today starts with cloudy skies mild temps (low 60's) and little if any wind.
5/25/2017 8:00 AM 0.68 M M M M Yesterday was partly cloudy with temps in the mid 70's. My car registered 76 degrees at 6:30 pm last evening. It was raining hard this morning at 4 am and it is still raining at a moderate rate now. It's currently 56 degrees with the temps only rising into the lower 60's. Gusty wind at times. Solid overcast. It could rain all day. We currently have a lakeshore flood warning and a warning of beach erosion. Folks living on and near the lake aren't getting a break. Good day to stay inside and read a book!!
5/26/2017 8:00 AM 0.94 M M M M There was a hard rain almost for the entire day yesterday. The rain began to let up by mid afternoon. Temps struggled to get out of the 50's. Strong east wind. We're once again water logged with lots of ponding water. The lake because of the east winds pounded the homes of lake residents. There were on and off sprinkles at 2 am and this morning is very dark and cloudy with rain expected later. We're foggy with a light mist right now. Highs in the low 60's. Not a lot of wind today so far.
5/27/2017 8:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Very gray, foggy, misty yesterday. High in the lower 60's. Today is starting out very cloudy with some breaks to the north. Very little or no wind.
5/28/2017 7:30 AM T M M M M Yesterday was cloudy until the clouds broke around 6 pm. During the day there were dark and ominous clouds to the south. To the north, the clouds were thinner. So, we had some sun to end the day. Today is dawning clear but very cool with the temp at 50 degrees. It looks like today will be the warmest day for another week or so. I don't know if it will ever warm up or be consistently sunny. The weather can do a number on our psyche!
5/29/2017 8:00 AM 0.11 M M M M Sunny for most of yesterday. Clouds did appear by mid afternoon giving a hazy sun. There were some interesting shaped cumulus clouds to the south. Some height and billowing. Temps reached the mid 70's. It felf very nice! It started raining this morning with a band of light rain coming through starting about 6:45 am. Rain is letting up now. It must have rained overnight as well since the pavements were wet this morning. A slight breeze this morning with temps in the mid 60's. Looking at the radar it appears that most of the rain has now passed by. Maybe we will see some clearing by this PM. We can always hope!
5/30/2017 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Rainy yesterday morning but the sun came through late morning to make for a nice day. The wind was very gusty with lots of tree limb movement. But the temps were in the lower 70's. This morning a shower went through around 4 am and it's partly cloudy with again some wind. We could get some showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Temps are projected to reach the 70's. Current temps is in the low 60's. Radar is showing that we could be getting some rain in the next hour or so.
5/31/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Partly sunny day yesterday with a breeze and temps reaching the lower to mid 70's. Around mid-day very threatening clouds formed to the south. Cumulus clouds. Maybe a sprinkle fell but I think it almost evaporated before reaching the ground. Humidity was low. By later in the afternoon the clouds were gone and it became clear. This morning is clear with a breeze and temps right near 60. There is a slight chance for rain later in the day and the temps should reach near the mid 70's. Great day to mow the lawn.
6/1/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny and very windy yesterday with a high near the mid 70's. Very dry air. This morning is sunny with a slight wind with temps in the mid 50's. Let's see if the winds pick up again today. Yesterday while traveling about I saw a young maple tree that had fallen over. All of its leaves were still green and not wilted. I think any trees that are not securely rooted could be prone to wind damage.
6/2/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another partly sunny and windy day yesterday with temps in the 60's. Today is starting sunny with a light wind but that should probably pick up as the day goes along if we are following the pattern of daily wind development. At 2 am it was very lightly sprinkling. The sky was partly cloudy so I'm not sure where those rain spritzs were coming from. The air has been so dry. There was no water in the rain gauge this morning. It was bone dry. Wonder how long this cool weather will continue.
6/3/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a carbon copy of all of the days before: windy, partly sunny, and temps in the 60's. This morning a band of clouds moved through with the airport reporting light rain. We received no rain at this station. Clouds have left and now is sunny. Temps in the mid 60's.
6/4/2017 7:30 AM T M M M M Yesterday was sunny, windy, and temps near 70 by the afternoon. Today is forecast to be very rainy. It started to sprinkle at 7:15 am. Very little wind.
6/5/2017 8:00 AM 0.22 M M M M Periods of moderate rain yesterday morning gave way to clouds. We missed out on the deluge that we were supposed to get. No rain last night but this morning at around 6 am, we were "kissed" by a thunder storm that lasted about 1 minute. I could see on the radar that most of the rain was north of here over the lake.
6/6/2017 8:00 AM 0.54 M M M M Two rounds of thunderstorms came through yesterday; one in the morning and one in mid afternoon. Very gray day with temps staying in the 60's. Today is very gray with little to no wind right now.
6/7/2017 8:00 AM 0.07 0.0 M M M Not as much wind or rain yesterday as we thought we would get. Still very cloudy and very cool with highs in the lower 60's. Every once and awhile the sun would appear. Today starts with upper level fog but should clear up and be a sunny day with highs near 70. Rain gauge is covered in dew.
6/8/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny yesterday with highs in the upper 60's. Today has dawned with a clear sky - lots of sun but very cool this morning 50 degrees. High is forecast to be in mid to upper 70's.
6/9/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
6/10/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Beautiful sunny day yesterday with the highs in the 70's. I went for a ride by the lakeshore and though there is still a fair amount of flood water in spots, the water appears to be receding. We didn't get any rain last night so that should help. This morning is partly cloudy with a slight breeze and temps in the 60's. Looking to be a nice day.
6/11/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
6/12/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny and hot with lots of wind yesterday. Today should be pretty much the same with the temps getting into the upper 80's, low 90's.
6/13/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny, windy, and hot yesterday. My kind of weather day! Today is starting muggy, cloudy, and warm. Showers in the area with a few sprinkles falling earlier around 6:30 am but nothing in the rain gauge. Wonderful flower smells in the air.
6/14/2017 8:00 AM 0.05 M M M M Showers all around us yesterday but very few hits. Some sprinkles and then one downpour late in the afternoon. This morning was very foggy but by 8 am the fog has burnt off already. Full sunny and temps in the mid 60's.
6/15/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny and beautiful day yesterday with temps in the lower to mid 70's. A delightful day to mow the lawn. I had to mow late in the day since it took awhile for the dew from the morning fog to evaporate. This morning started sunny but now is cloudy with rain arriving later this morning or early afternoon. Could get heavy rain.
6/16/2017 7:45 AM 0.36 M M M M We had a thunderstorm with heavy rain come through the area around 11 am. The storm lasted for a little over an hour. Then the skies partially cleared until 4 pm when the next series of storms came through. There were some sever thunderstorm warnings for areas around this station. However, the storms skirted us. We received some sprinkles and light rain but no storm. This morning it is cloudy with high humidity and temps in the low 70's.
6/17/2017 7:45 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was mostly sunny, very warm, and humid. In mid-day many cumulus clouds formed-the tall billowing kind. Very impressive. There was no rain and the clouds dissipated by mid afternoon leaving clear skies. Temps reached into the mid 80's. Today is starting partly cloudy with a nice breeze. Temps are already in the low 70's with a dewpoint in the low 60's. Though it feels as if the dew point should be higher.
6/18/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was breezy, hot and humid with temps near 90. Again there were interesting cumulus clouds beneath a thin deck of stratus clouds. Today is sunny already in the 80's with a stiff breeze. We should be getting some rain this evening, but right now not a cloud in the sky.
6/19/2017 8:00 AM 0.81 M M M M Yesterday was cloudy and rain filled with some bands of storms coming through. Around 2:30 pm we had some wind driven rain but only one clap of thunder. This event lasted about 10 to 15 minutes. Then later around 6 pm another group of storms came through. There were severe thunderstorm warnings for the area but we did not have any severe weather. Again only a sihgle clap of thunder but some steady rain which lasted awhile.
6/20/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Very changeable day yesterday. Sun, clouds, sprinkles, wind. Today so far looks to be about the same except the temp is much cooler - in the mid 60's rather than the 70's.
6/21/2017 8:00 AM 0.08 M M M M I guess there were some hefty storms west and north of this station but we got only a bit here. Cloudy, windy, and temps in the 70's for yesterday. This morning is cool with temps in the high 50's but a bright clear sky for the first day of summer.
6/22/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Beautiful day yesterday - a great first day of summer. A bit on the cool side but great for mowing the grass. Today is sunny/cloudy with a slight breeze and cool temps in the 50's. Warming up though. Chance for thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight.
6/23/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a mix of clouds and sun with temps for the most part staying in the 70's. Later in the day the humidity and temps did rise but it was after 4 pm. Overnight there was high humidity and warm temps staying in the mid to lower 70's. Today is mostly cloudy with some breaks of sun with dewpoints in the upper 60's. Very little breeze. We could get some rain later today looking at the radar. Right now rain is to the north and west in Canada and south and west still in PA. Unless storms develop through current conditions, we probably won't see any precipitation until this afternoon.
6/24/2017 8:00 AM 0.14 M M M M Yesterday there were storms to the north, west, and south of us but we didn't get too much activity. Around 7 pm last night the rain came down in sheets but only lasted 5 minutes. Mainly cloudy yesterday with some sun and warm and humid. This morning is cooler but clear with bright blue skies and a slight breeze. Temps in the upper 60's.
6/25/2017 8:00 AM 0.15 M M M M Our current pattern continued yesterday with clear skies in the morning and then clouds building up by the afternoon. Then what appears to be lake effect showers come through late afternoon into early evening. Today looks to be the same with sunny skies right now but some cumulus clouds are visible to the south and north of this station. I'll bet we get showers this afternoon. Temps yesterday were in the 70's and right now temps are in the 60's.
6/26/2017 8:00 AM T M M M M Yesterday started out sunny but the clouds moved in by mid day. Many layers to the clouds with stratus and cumulus clouds stacked up as seen through cloud breaks. Wind picked up during the afternoon with significant gusts over 30 mph. Lots of dark ominous clouds appeared but no rain. At one point the Rochester station at the airport said rain and thunderstorm. And here I am 5 miles north and west of the airport with no rain and no thunder - not even dark clouds to the south. The wind became calm around 5 pm. Very interesting weather day.
6/27/2017 7:45 AM 0.03 M M M M Sun turned to mostly clouds yesterday morning. Again the layers of clouds were interesting with the layer closest to the ground moving quickly and the clouds higher up seemingly standing still. Lots of storms around this station but we did not see any. Yesterday's storms were mainly to the south and came through in early evening. This morning has light rain with lots of clouds, a slight breeze, and very cool temps - in the mid to upper 50's. Tonight is forecast to be cool but then tomorrow we may see a pattern shift to more seasonable weather.
6/28/2017 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Yesterday was a mix of sun, clouds, wind and cool. At 11:30 am I was about 4 miles north of this station when a thunderstorm came through where I was driving. There was thunder, lightening, and heavy rain. No hail. When I got back home at around 1 pm, the sun was shining and the ground was dry. It appears that this station received little if any precipitation from that storm. Later in the day we did get a rain event but no thunder. This morning is very cool (lower 50's) with a slight breeze. Clouds have moved in.
6/29/2017 8:00 AM 0.06 M M M M Yesterday started out cloudy, turned sunny, then turned cloudy again. Nice breeze, perfect temps in the 70's with low humidity. No rain during the day yesterday. Received some rain overnight. I believe that there were thunderstorms over the lake last night. Saw some photography on facebook that showed a classic cloud to water lightening strike. Today is forecast to be rainy with a high in the low 80's. Love those summer time temps.
6/30/2017 8:00 AM 0.18 M M M M Yesterday was mostly cloudy with showers coming through all day. The air was cool in the morning but around 1 pm the temps rose and the air became very muggy. The high reached into the 80's but it stayed in the 60's to low 70's for most of the morning. This morning a heavy rain shower came through just a little before 7 am with some gusts of wind but no thunder or lightening. Looking at the radar we could be seeing some showers for awhile now. Temps are in the low 70's with high humidity but with a nice breeze. It's raining at the time this measurement was taken.
7/1/2017 7:45 AM 0.24 M M M M Yesterday saw rain in the morning followed by clearing skies by late afternoon (3 PM) and then sun and wind for the rest of the daylight. Temps were in the low 80's and the humidity was high. This morning it is raining with varying intensities of rain coming down since 5:30 am when I started this observation. Current temps are rain cooled in the upper 60's. Very little wind at this time.
7/2/2017 8:00 AM 0.14 M M M M Variable day with rain and sun and wind. Today started very sunny with a slight breeze.
7/3/2017 8:00 AM 0.10 M M M M I was very suprised to see that it rained overnight. Yesterday was again sunny, windy, and warm with temps into the low 80's. There were some scattered clouds in the sky around 9 pm.
7/4/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Happy Fourth of July to everyone. The weather has been beautiful yesterday and the start of today. Yesterday had highs in the lower 80's with lots of sun and a nice breeze. Today started cool with temps in the 50's. But temps have made it to the 60's now so we should have a warm day.
7/5/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was cool in the morning with temps in the 50's. But the day was sunny and did get into the 80's by the afternoon. No rain so great for the fireworks. This morning is sunny, very cool with temps in the mid 50's. Very little if any wind.
7/6/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Beautiful warm summer day yesterday with highs in the 80's, all sun, and gentle breezes. Made to order weather. Today is expected to be about the same. Temps currently in the low 70's with a wonderful south breeze.
7/7/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday saw sunny, warm, and breezy with highs in the lower 80's. Today should be about the same except for the slight possibility of storms this PM.
7/8/2017 7:45 AM 0.55 M M M M Yesterday got cloudy around mid morning with breaks of sun throughout the day. It was a warm and muggy day with a nice breeze. A brief (about a minute) shower came through around 6 pm and I wondered where the rain had come from because the clouds were so broken up at that time. Overnight had two thunderstorms which brought rain. Not severe storms. There didn't appear to be any wind with them. And the thunder was not very loud. Either the storms were farther away or it was mostly cloud-to-cloud lightening.
7/9/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday morning was cloudy but brightened to a sunny afternoon. Breeze was frisky and the temps stayed in the 70's. Cool and very cool overnight with temps in the mid 50's. This morning is sunny, pleasant temps, with a mild breeze. Could get up to 80 today. Low humidity.
7/10/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday started out very cool with temps in the mid 50's but it ended up warmer and windier. Highs reached close to 80. Today is starting sunny with a strong breeze and temps in the mid 60's. Humidity is a bit higher than yesterday.
7/11/2017 8:00 AM 0.15 M M M M Yesterday ended up mostly cloudy with a breeze and temps topping out near eighty. Showers came through in late afternoon with one rumble of thunder. This morning is clear with no breeze and temps in the upper 60's.
7/12/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Warm, partly sunny, and muggy yesterday. There were a few times I thought it was going to rain because of the cloud formations. But by late afternoon most of the clouds had dissipated. This morning is warm and muggy with some fog in the area. Very light breeze is blowing. Current temps in the low 70's with humidity at 91%.
7/13/2017 8:00 AM 1.02 M M M M Changeable day yesterday with two periods of rain; one during the mid morning starting around 10 am, the other late afternoon around 4 pm. Total rain from these two events was close to .33. Very humid and warm yesterday. The rest of the rain fell overnight so I'm not sure when it rained. It is cloudy, very cool, with little breeze right now. Temps are in the mid to upper 60's with the temps not expected to move much today. Flash flood watch is in affect.
7/14/2017 8:00 AM 0.47 M M M M Gloomy, rainy day yesterday with temps really never getting out of the 60's. A thunderstorm came through in the morning with rain continuing long after the thunder had stopped. Small breaks of sun came through very late afternoon (after 5pm),
7/15/2017 8:00 AM 0.22 M M M M Mainly rainfree yesterday except for one shower that came through late in the day. This morning is cool with a light mist in the air. Temps in the low to mid 60's.
7/16/2017 8:00 AM T M M M M Yesterday started out cool with a light mist in the air. Temps were in the upper 50's. As the day progressed we lost any precipitation and only clouds remained. By late in the day the sun was out. Today is starting sunny and seasonably warm with temps in the mid 60's. A light breeze makes it very comfortable. Nice day.
7/17/2017 8:00 AM 0.45 M M M M Yesterday started out sunny and comfortable with a slight breeze and perfect temperatures. The clouds built up throughout the day and by 6 pm we received a small shower. There was another shower around 7:30 pm. Then overnight there were two thunderstorms; one at 3 am and the other at around 5 am. These storms did not last long and did not pose any serious threats. There were some heavy downpours in the storms. This morning is partly cloudy with temps in the upper 60's and high humidities.
7/18/2017 8:00 AM 0.04 M M M M Yesterday started out with threatening skies and a recent thunderstorm. But most of the day ended up partly cloudy with temps near 80 and a nice breeze. We did have one rogue shower come through at 5:30 pm with only a short bit of rain. After the shower, skies cleared. It was clear overnight with a cool start to this morning with lows in the lower 60's. Clear skies and sunny right now.
7/19/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was warm (high near 80), mostly sunny with a light breeze. It became quite cloudy around noontime but then later in the afternoon the clouds disipated. No precipitation. This morning is cool (low 60's) and breezy with some high thin clouds so the sun is muted. Temps are to reach into the 80's.
7/20/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a typical mid summer day with temps well into the 80's, high humidities, and clouds with mostly sun. Clouds were present on and off throughout the day. I know that later in the day near Niagara Falls there was a lake boundary where some storms popped up. But nothing reached us here. This morning is sunny with a slight breeze and temps almost at 70. Nice day with the possibility of t storms this afternoon.
7/21/2017 8:00 AM 0.58 M M M M We had partly sunny conditions yesterday with warm temps until a line of thunderstorms came through our area around 12:30 pm. At this station, we received only rain and some thunder and lightening. No wind - two tornadoes came through south of Buffalo from this same system. At this station, the thunder and lightening lasted only about 20 minutes and then the rain continued for another hour and a half to 2 hours. Then the skies cleared with a nice breeze. Definitely cooler in the afternoon (in the upper 60's) with less humidity. This morning is clear with some higher clouds which are only slightly diminishing the sun's effect. Lots of humidity this morning with some of the house windows steamed up on the outside.
7/22/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Mostly cloudy yesterday with a thin layer of clouds covering the sun for most of the day. It still managed to be warm and humid with highs in the 80's and no precipitation. This morning has a much thicker layer of clouds than yesterday - so no peaks of sun. Warm with temps in the upper 60's with little to no breeze. Very humid right now.
7/23/2017 7:30 AM 0.01 M M M M Yesterday was cloudy with the sun shining through a thinner layer of clouds every once and awhile. I'm not sure when it rained but it was more like sprinkles or a mist. The pavements never looked wet but I did feel a light mist when I went and got the mail. This activity came and went throughout the day. This morning has a pretty thick layer of clouds with no sun showing through - a pretty dark morning. We could be getting some more significant rain later today with a lake shore flood watch in affect for later today.
7/24/2017 8:00 AM 0.36 M M M M A line of thunderstorms came through this morning starting around 6:30 am. The rain started a little after 7 am. The amound of water in the rain gauge is all from this morning's thunderstorms. Yesterday was muggy and warm with limited amounts of sun. I thought a few times yesterday that it was going to rain here but it didn't.
7/25/2017 8:00 AM 0.19 M M M M Yesterday started with the thunderstorms and then stayed cloudy for the rest of the day. In late afternoon showers passed through. This morning it was drizzling but that has stopped now. It is cold, dark and not nice out (temps 61) - not a good day to mow the lawn :(
7/26/2017 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M Yesterday morning saw a misty rain and it was very cloudy - very gray day - with the sun breaking through clouds around 5 pm in the afternoon. The temps stayed for most of the day in the low 60's but when the sun came out we reached the upper 60's. There was high humidity and wind from the north. The lake shore once again was flooded due to the high lake levels. This morning is starting out cool but sunny :) The current temps are just reaching 60 degrees. There's hope! Lots of dew on the rain gauge.
7/27/2017 8:00 AM 0.13 M M M M Ended up cloudy yesterday with temps into the 70's. Good lawn mowing day - finally since it was dry. This morning at 4:45 am it was raining. Not sure how long it had been raining before then. Right now a misty rain is falling but the rain has been on and off since my first morning observation.
7/28/2017 8:00 AM 0.46 M M M M Yesterday rained for most of the day. We had some heavy rain come through late morning around 11:45 am. The clouds finally cleared late in the day after 4 pm with some actual sun appearing once and awhile. Temps were in the 70's and rain cooled. Today is starting out cloudy but is supposed to clear and be sunny. Temps are to be in the low 70's. Lots of dew on the rain gauge this morning.
7/29/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was mostly cloudy but dry with the sun appearing in the afternoon. The temps remained for most of the day in the 60's with the temp rising to the low 70's when the sun came out. There was a north east breeze blowing. Overnight was clear and cool with temps in the mid 50's but quickly rising. We currently are in the upper 60's. Lots of dew on the rain gauge this morning.
7/30/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Beautiful day yesterday and another one on tap for today. Summer is wonderful!
7/31/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was a beautiful summer's day with warm temps, lots of sun, and a nice breeze. No rain with temps reaching into the 80's. Today should be a carbon copy of yesterday with a slight chance of t-storms this afternoon.
8/1/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny, warm, and humid yesterday with highs in the lower 80's. Clouds rolled in during the afternoon and there were thunderstorms in the area. We received no rain and heard no thunder. Storms were well off to the south.
8/2/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Yesterday started sunny with warm temps and a nice breeze. The temps rose quickly into the 80's and by mid-day there were a lot of cumulus clouds that had formed. Around 1:30 pm with no change in the sky - it still was partly cloudy - rain teemed down for about 2 to 3 minutes and then stopped as soon as it started. It was very strange because there was no change in the color and thickness of the clouds to indicate that rain was coming. There were still patches of blue showing. Then around 6:30 pm there were thunderstorms in the area but they missed this station. Heard some thunder and only got about 30 seconds of sprinkles. (Thunder report has been entered.) This morning is again sunny and we'll see if today replicates yesterday's conditions.
8/3/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was mainly sunny with some clouds moving in and out during the morning. High in the mid 80's with low humidity and a nice breeze. It was clear overnight and this morning is sunny and cool with a southern breeze and temps in the mid 60's. End of the day could get stormy.
8/4/2017 7:45 AM 0.08 M M M M Thunderstorm with heavy rain, some wind is coming through our area right now. I took the rain gauge reading just before the storm started. Yesterday we had mostly sunny skies with a mix of clouds. There were thunderstorms all around the area but none really hit this station's location. At 7 pm we had some thunder and rain but there were only two claps of thunder. The rain lasted about an hour. I don't believe it rained overnight. This morning at 6 am it was clear with very few clouds. This thunderstorm came up quickly.
8/5/2017 8:00 AM 0.99 M M M M We had two rain events yesterday; one during the morning with a thunderstorm. From that event we received approx. .4 inches of rain. The next event was in the late afternoon early evening. Again, another thunderstorm that produced some wind and rain. Today it is a windy morning with cool temperatures. The wind is out of the north and the skies go from sunny to total cloud covered. Temps are in the 60's. More like a fall day than summer.
8/6/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was cloudy, windy and very cool with highs not getting out of the sixties here. Sometimes it looked as if it was going to rain any minute with dark clouds but no precipitation fell. It was clear overnight with a low in the lower 50's. Not good for some of the houseplants that I have out on the patio. Today is sunny with a slight breeze and temps currently in the upper 50's. We're supposed to get into the 70's today. We'll see.
8/7/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was breezy with milder temperatures and some sun. During late morning clouds began to move in with nice layering. There were cirrus followed by cirrus-stratus followed by cumulus. It was very interesting looking at the layers. This morning is all clouds with a breeze and temps in the upper 50's. We're due some rain sometime today with it likely to be this afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 60's to low 70's.
8/8/2017 8:00 AM 0.44 M M M M The first part of yesterday was sunny with a pleasant breeze. Temps were in the lower 70's. Around noon time I noticed cloud layering again with cirrus, cirrus-stratus, and cumulus clouds together in the sky. By 3 pm there was a solid cloud deck. Rain began and was heavy at times. Not sure what time it ended last night. This morning is sunny with no wind and temps in the upper 50's. There is high humidity with lots of dew on cars. Not noticing any fog but I'm sure it's about in places. Rain gauge is covered in dew.
8/9/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny and warm today - into the mid-80's.
8/10/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Mostly sunny day yesterday with clouds building up in the afternoon. There were some thunderstorms to the north of us that I saw on radar. Saw the dark clouds but heard no thunder. Today is starting sunny with a nice cool breeze with temps into the 60's.
8/11/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We had a very nice summer day yesterday. I was able to get to the finger lakes and enjoy a lake side breeze along Cayuga lake. Some clouds in the sky but it was mostly sunny with temps into the 80's. Temps currently are in the mid 60's with our high getting to around 80. Rain is forecast for today especially this afternoon. Right now we have clouds but no rain and nothing is showing up on the radar.
8/12/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M
8/13/2017 7:00 AM 0.11 M M M M Variable weather yesterday with sun, clouds, rain and conditions quickly changing. A rain storm came through around 12 noon yesterday. It didn't last long but we had very dark clouds leading up to the rain. I thought we may be getting a thunderstorm, but that did not happen. Late in the afternoon and early evening, there were some spotty showers with the sky being only partly cloudy. Lots of dew on the rain gauge this morning.
8/14/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sun with pleasant temps yesterday. High close to 80 with a nice breeze. This morning started out cloudy but there are no clouds in the sky now. Looks to be another sunny, warm day. We do have the chance for some showers this afternoon.
8/15/2017 8:00 AM 0.03 M M M M Sunny start to yesterday. A quick shower came through around 2 pm and though at times it looked as if it could rain again, it didn't. This morning is warm with temps in the mid 60's and a nice breeze. It looks like there is more of a chance for showers this afternoon. Lawn mowing day - must get to that sweet spot when the dew on the grass has evaporated and the PM storms have not started yet!
8/16/2017 7:45 AM 0.74 M M M M Yesterday was sunny in the morning with clouds moving in around noon. Rain started between 1 and 1:30 pm. I was able to get the lawn mowed :) It rained for a couple of hours and then the sun came back out though it was partly cloudy. This morning is cloudy but the clouds are low and look more like lifting fog. Lots of dew on the rain gauge. Temps are in the 60's.

8/18/2017 7:45 AM 0.32 M M M M For the most part yesterday was sunny with a nice breeze and warm temps (upper 70's). It became cloudy in the afternoon but it didn't rain until after sunset. This morning is muggy with lots of dew on the rain gauge. The sun is out and the temps are warm being in the lower 70's.
8/19/2017 7:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain yesterday just bright sun and very warm temps (into the 80's) with a brisk breeze. This morning is started sunny. The breeze is still present but not as brisk as yesterday. Temps in the mid 60's. Looking to be a good weekend summer day.
8/20/2017 7:30 AM 0.01 M M M M Yesterday turned out to be mostly cloudy with the sun appearing now and again. The breeze was strong out of the south making it feel cooler than the actual temps which were close to 80. Very strange rogue shower appeared at 5:10 pm giving us the rain gauge reading. This morning the temps are in the low 60's with a slight breeze. No clouds to speak of.
8/21/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny, warm, and breezy yesterday with few clouds. Today is eclipse day. We'll have a 70% eclipse here and the weather should be clear. It's clear right now with temps in the 60's with a nice breeze.
8/22/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We had a partly cloudy day yesterday for the eclipse. At times the sun was covered by thick clouds but mostly the clouds were thin enough so that you could see the moon's shadow quite clearly. No rain yesterday and warm temps into the mid 80's. Today is starting with a brisk breeze and warm temps into the lower 70's even this early. The sky is clear but there looks to be cloud cover to the south and west that could be coming in over the next hour or so.
8/23/2017 8:00 AM 0.75 M M M M There were 3 main rain events yesterday; two in the afternoon and one in the evening right around sunset. The first two events involved some thunder and some wind gust but nothing damaging. Again it seems that the most severe weather was south and east of this station. Yesterday morning was muggy and very war but once the rain started the temps cooled down into the 70's with a very high humidity. Today is starting sunny and very cool with low humidity and a slight breeze. I can tell the breeze is out of the north because I can smell the lake.
8/24/2017 8:00 AM 0.07 M M M M Cloudy, breezy and cool yesterday. The day started out sunny but then clouds developed as the day progressed. Around 6:10 pm what appeared to be a lake effect rain shower came through with wind driven rain that lasted probably for about 1/2 hour. This morning is sunny with a breeze and very cool temps - in the lower 50's. Lots of dew on the rain gauge and grass this morning.
8/25/2017 8:00 AM T M M M M Yesterday was sunny, cloudy, and breezy with light showers all around the area. It spinkled here at around 10:50am but there were heavier showers in Chili south of this station. The temps were very cool never getting out of the 60's. Today is starting out very sunny with only a slight breeze and very cool temps in the lower 50's. It's more like fall than the end of summer.
8/26/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was mostly sunny with a light breeze and no rain. Humidity was very low - 45% and temps only reached into the upper 60's low 70's. Last night saw temps fall into the mid to upper 40's. This morning is sunny with a light breeze and cool temps into the upper 40's low 50's. Hopefully today will be a bit warmer than yesterday but it's looking like temps will only reach the low 70's if that. No pool weather. Good luck to the people on the Texas coast! Wishing them the best.
8/27/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Sunny start to yesterday but clouds rolled in during mid-day. Clouds were gone in a couple of hours. Light breeze with cool temps just getting into the lower 70's. Today is starting the same as yesterday; sunny, very cool (upper 40's), and little to no breeze. Dew covers everything this morning.
8/28/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was sunny, breezy, and cool with temps in the lower 70's. Last night it got down to the lower 50's and this morning there is a thin layer of high clouds partially blocking the sun. Another cool one in store of us today.
8/29/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Mostly cloudy yesterday with a light breeze and cool temps in the lower 70's. Great for doing some yard work and mowing the lawn. Today is starting out pretty much the same as yesterday. There is a pretty solid layer of clouds with some sun getting through. There is a light breeze and temps are in the mid 50's.
8/30/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cool with hazy sun yesterday with a slight breeze. Temps got into the low 70's. Last night was clear with temps getting down to the mid 50's. This morning is sunny with very little breeze. It might get a tad warmer today with highs in the mid to upper 70's.
8/31/2017 8:00 AM 0.23 M M M M High thin clouds for most of yesterday with the sun peaking through every now and then. Temps were in the mid 70's with a nice breeze. This morning it was raining at 5:20 am but it had stopped by 5:45 am. Right now it's cloudy, damp, with no wind to speak of. The temps are in the lower 60's. Looking at the current radar it looks like we might be getting some spotty showers for awhile.
9/1/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M No rain fell yesterday after it had stopped at 5:45 am. As the day progressed the sky became partly cloudy with a cool breeze. The temps never got out of the 60's. This morning it is clear with sun and little breeze. The temps are in the upper 40's. We're supposed to stay in the lower 60's today. Welcome to meteorlogical fall.
9/2/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Another cool day yesterday but it was sunny with only a little bit of a breeze. This morning at 5 am it was 44 degrees and it's only moved up to 47 right now. Today is supposed to be mostly sunny with a high again in the upper 60's. It looks like we might be getting our own taste of Harvey this evening and tomorrow. Oh boy!
9/3/2017 7:15 AM 0.22 M M M M Yesterday was mostly sunny with a brisk wind and temps again remainig in the 60's. The rain moved in overnight. Right now we have light rain and a solid layer of clouds with no wind. This is the remnants of Harvey. Temps are in the upper 50's.
9/4/2017 8:00 AM 0.20 M M M M Yesterday had two main rain events; one in the morning lasting from sunrise until close to noon. The other event was late afternoon and this event only lasted about 1/2 hour. The day was generally cloudy but there were some breaks of sun in the afternoon. The wind was moderate and the temps never got out of the sixties. It cleared overnight and this morning there is sun with no clouds. The temps seem warmer and they currrently are in the 60's. We could get into the 80's today. Today, I think will be summer's last gasp in Rochester NY. Happy Labor day everyone.
9/5/2017 8:00 AM 0.57 M M M M Yesterday was sunny, windy, and warm with the clouds only starting to appear after 5 pm. Temps got into the low 80's. It was a wonderful day. During the night (not sure of the time) thunderstorms rolled through with lots of lightening and thunder. There was a severe thunderstorm alert but there was no severe weather at this station. Today is starting gray, cool (low 60's) with no wind. The clouds may clear for part of the day. We'll see.
9/6/2017 8:00 AM 0.01 M M M M The little bit of water in the gauge was from early yesterday when a light misty rain fell before 9 am. Yesterday was pretty non-descript since I can't remember any defining features about it :0 It was gray with some breaks of sun (very few). Temps were in the mid to upper 60's and there was very little wind. This morning has started out with a solid bank of clouds which is now starting to fade traveling west to east. So maybe we'll see some sun. Temps are forecast to reach the upper 60's and current temp is in the upper 50's.
9/7/2017 8:00 AM 0.39 M M M M Yesterday morning started out sunny and then, as the day progressed, got more and more cloud cover. By 3 pm the rain started and continued on and off into the evening. The temps reached the upper 60's This morning is again sunny with a few clouds and cool temps in the mid 50's. There is a slight breeze this morning.
9/8/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Yesterday was pretty much sunny and very breezy all day. Clouds did start to arrive around 5 pm but there was no rain during the day. So the small amount of rain in the gauge must have come overnight. I know this morning the Buffalo station of weather.gov reported that we had light rain at our airport but it was not raining here. A mixture of clouds and sun this morning with again a brisk breeze. Temps are currently in the mid 50's and possibly reaching the lower 60's later today. Saw geese traveling west this morning but the hummingbirds are still here.
9/9/2017 7:45 AM 0.10 M M M M Yesterday started out with sun but it quickly turned to all clouds. At 11:30 am a lake effect rain shower came through. It was a moderate to heavy rain being slanted by a west wind. It rained for only 15 minutes or so and then the rest of the day was rain free though at times it looked like it could rain again. By the end of the day it was mainly sunny again. Got cold again overnight with lows into the mid 40's. This morning it is almost 50 with a clear sky and the sun is just beginning to peak through over the house tops. Today is supposed to be cool but bright and sunny.

9/11/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Mixture of clouds and sun yesterday with highs reaching into the upper 60's. Last night was cool again with lows into the mid 40's. Today is starting with all sun - not a cloud in the sky!
9/12/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Cool nights and warmer days is the weather pattern here right now. Lows are now into the low 50's and upper 40's. Today's high should reach into the upper 70's. Summer has returned for a bit.
9/13/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was sunny and warm with temps into the upper 70's. This morning started out summy but a layer of clouds is moving in from the south. The forecast for today is for mostly sunny skies so hopefully the clouds won't last for too long. No wind at this point.
9/14/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday turned out to be mostly cloudy with peaks of sun breaking through thin layers of clouds. As the day wore on the cloud layer got thicker. We could have gotten rain overnight but I think all of the rain events are staying south - at least based on the radar that I saw this morning. Believe it or not, this rain is the remnents of Irma. That lady sure gets around!
9/15/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Very interesting cloud formations yesterday. Large cumulus clouds were located to the south of this station. These clouds never moved north but they gave a very beautiful display - very billowy. This morning is clear with currently not a cloud in the sky. Temps are in the low 60's.
9/16/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We're in a rut and I love it-sun, warm, no rain and a little breeze. We've been reaching into the 80's and today is forecast to be the same.
9/17/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M The weather we got yesterday was warm, sunny, no rain, and very little breeze. Today is supposed to be a carbon copy of yesterday with highs close to the mid-80's. We're getting our summer in September except everyone has closed up their pools for the year.
9/18/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Beautiful summer day yesterday with sunny skies, temps in the mid 80's and mid range humidity. This morning is partly sunny with very high humidity (97%) so they is some fog in areas. Going to be another day with temps in the 80's.
9/19/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Weather has remained the same. The only difference this morning is that there is a little breeze blowing from the south west. Another summer day!
9/20/2017 7:45 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Hazy sun yesterday with a breeze from the south west. Temps reached into the mid 80's. Today is starting with no clouds and temps in the upper 50's with fog reported. However there is no fog at this station.
9/21/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Immediately after I entered yesterday's CoCoRaHS note, the clouds rolled in and there was evidence of fog. The clouds didn't lift until mid day. It looks like today will be the same. Right now it is cloudy with a very high dew point (100%-can't get higher!!) and a temp at 60. Again, the day is supposed to heat up into the upper 70's this afternoon after the clouds dissipate.
9/22/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday fog was present until mid morning. It is foggy again this am but not as bad as the last few days. I see blue skies and sun.
9/23/2017 7:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M We have had carbon-copy days for the past week. And this consistent weather is continuing over the weekend. We're having warm days, cool night, a little fog in the morning, and a very light wind. Highs today in the mid 80's and no rain in sight. Rochester NY is having its summer in the fall!

9/27/2017 7:40 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Yesterday was hazy, hot, and humid with a filtered sun and a slight breeze. Today will be our last day of summer weather with a cold front moving through sometime this afternoon. I've enjoyed our delay in fall.
9/28/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Fall has arrived! Cold front came through yesterday afternoon/evening with little or no precipitation. I was out-and-about at 5 pm and had to use the windshield wipers a couple of times but no rain to speak of. No rain in my gauge. We are starting to need rain. I collect rain water for my orchids and I'm beginning to run short!
9/29/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Partly sunny yesterday with an almost 30 degree drop in daytime high temperatures from the day before. A bit of a shock to the system! Right now skies are clear but we should be getting rain later today.
9/30/2017 7:45 AM 0.46 M M M M The last time I entered a reading from the rain gauge was on September 9th. That is quite a stretch of rain free weather. It's been hot during that time as well. Strange weather for September. Rain started yesterday around noon time and continued on and off for the rest of the day. The pavement is wet this morning and it's very cloudy with clouds moving from the north to south. Cool day today with highs not getting out of the 50's.
