This preliminary report was submitted at 8:42 AM. {UPDATE at 9:40 PM: Core sampling was determined to be poor, probably contaminated by drifting or blowing snow. Storm total core yielded 2.17 which buddy-checks nicely with nearby reports and will be reporting that tomorrow.}
3/15/2017 8:00 AM 0.85 2.8 M 11.0 2.17 On top of 9.0" of snow/sleet during previous report period, sleet mixed with snow at times changed to all snow by 11 AM. Although main precipitation shield moved out of area at noontime after 2.5" additional sleet/snow. A snow band developed nearby but not overhead, but winds blew light to occasionally moderate snow into the immediate area where sky became mostly clear of clouds resulting in an encore of snow with the sun visible through a sky obscured by the falling snow during the early afternoon, melting as it landed except 0.3" more in shade. Occasional flurries persisted till near sunset. Significant sleet and a little melting then refreezing suppressed blowing and drifting which was minimal overnight. Yesterday's report was corrected for a core sample which was found to be contaminated by some blown or drifted snow, resulting in a too-high value. Storm total: 11.8" snow/sleet which melted to 2.17" rainfall equivalent from confident core sample while direct tube catches netted 1.75 which appears typical for SE PA CoCoRaHS observers which probably did not report core sample results.
3/16/2017 8:00 AM T T M 9.0 M Minor snow flurries occurred at times late morning and early afternoon but were so small that not even a new dusting resulted. Pack became slightly crusted Tuesday afternoon from slight melting then refreezing, enough to suppress blowing and drifting despite frequent fresh winds.
3/17/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 7.5 M
3/18/2017 8:00 AM 0.01 T M 6.0 M A mix of a tiny amount of snow pellets and rain occurred early this morning. Ablation of snow/sleet pack has been very uneven, so Total Depth is an average.
3/19/2017 8:00 AM 0.05 0.2 M 5.0 M Shower of wet snow fell as clumps up to 1.5" across at times between 8:10 and 8:40 AM leaving a brief stippled coating on non-paved surfaces. Otherwise, drizzle and a little light rain persisted through most of daylight and kept diurnal temperature range within 3 degrees in mid 30s. Expected rain/snow after dark missed to SW with temperatures remaining steady in mid 30s overnight.
3/20/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 2.0 0.99 This was first Monday morning of this "winter" there was snow pack to core sample. Sunday brought a substantial but not complete meltdown. Amount of 0.99 was average of 1.53 from 3.5 of slushy pack depth in always shaded area and 0.45 from 1.0 of slushy pack depth in area of average sun exposure. Areas of maximum sun exposure became nearly bare. These measurements were done late afternoon and could have decreased slightly more overnight. Total snow (slush) depth of 2.0 is average per above.
3/21/2017 8:00 AM 0.02 0.0 M 1.0 M Light rain fell at times before dawn. Reported snow depth of about an inch is estimated average of always shaded areas where up to a few inches remain and otherwise shallow patches amid bare areas.
3/22/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M Patches of snow/ice on undisturbed grounds remain only on always shaded areas.
3/23/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M T M Still shallow patches of snow/ice in some areas of little or no sun exposure
3/24/2017 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 M 0.0 M Small snow patches which linger in areas of minimal or no direct sun exposure cover less than 10 percent of undisturbed grounds, thus zero is reported for total depth.

Both storms drenched the city of Reading where a high-water rescue was performed. Light rain fell at times overnight and almost to 8 AM this morning. The storms were detached from the rain shield of the big and heavy synoptic scale system just to the south and appeared to have developed on a boundary that separated sun-warmed air to the north and rain-cooled air to the south.

Rather strong winds of sub-damaging force accompanied the torrent in gusts. Additionally, a sprinkle at daybreak this morning was sub-measurable. 9/6/2017 8:00 AM 1.21 0.0 M 0.0 M Returned from Labor Day travel mid afternoon and was "greeted" by distant thunder at 4 PM. It appeared this storm cell to NW was not moving my way quickly, so I attempted to mow the lawn and completed the task just in time, even while watching near pitch-black sky encroach slowly. A short time later, I learned 2.5 to 4 inches of rain fell those few miles away to the NW while I was mowing. Rain began right here at 5:30 PM, became torrential within seconds, and mixed with small hail (Hail Report submitted). Downpour tapered within 10 minutes of onset but dumped over half the storm's rain in that short time including 0.5 in 6 minutes. Then, light rain continued till nightfall with 1.08 by then. Light rain returned overnight and brought an additional 0.13. Pavements became partly dry by 8 AM, but light rain was just resuming at the 8:00 AM observation. This was yet another minor flooding event here, but flooding was unusual several miles to NW-N-NE.
