10/13/2016 7:00 AM 0.07 0.0 M 0.0 M Yesterday early morning was gray, balmy and quiet except for frogs singing in the woods. Later, a thunderstorm with frequent cloud-to-ground lightning was seen and heard passing along the northwest and western skies ~8:45am-9:15am. Intermittent rain showers began here mid-morning and continued into mid-afternoon, with increasing north winds and decreasing temps. This morning is quiet again, but clear and very cold with extensive frost. // Frost report made: Second frost of the season (first frost was 5 days ago). 10/17/2016 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 M 0.0 M Overnight rain. Dewpoints were in the mid 60s all day yesterday with high temps in the low 70s. Light fog yesterday morning lingered until 9:45am. Saw a monarch butterfly fluttering around, as well as silver-spotted skippers and cabbage and alfalfa butterflies. Hordes of ladybugs coat the sides of the house, making it hard to work outside -- they land on you frequently and sometimes bite. Feels just like a strong El Nino fall so far...

2/24/2017 7:00 AM 1.09 T M T M WOW! We fell asleep to blustery rain and awoke at 12:08am to strong winds, heavy rain, frequent lightning, and hail pelting the roof and east-facing windows. The mostly pea-sized hail (a mixture of ~1/4" to 1/2" diameter) quickly accumulated on (but didn't completely cover) the ground. There were other short stints of hail overnight, and a round of what sounded more like sleet -- all accompanied by brisk winds, heavy rain, and frequent thunder and lightning. (There had also been brief, non-accumulating sleet yesterday afternoon.) On the previously-bare ground this morning is a patchy mixture of hail, sleet, and snow on very wet, mushy ground. Small puddles remain. Currently: drizzle and 33°.
2/25/2017 7:00 AM 0.07 0.9 M 1.0 M Fairly constant drizzle yesterday helped melt the remaining hail/snow mix on the ground (that fell two nights ago). But by late afternoon, temps dropped below freezing and the drizzle glazed surfaces with ~ 1/16" of ice. The brown ground is once again white this morning from overnight snowfall. Also: Burgy Creek at County Rd. F in Monticello was observed over its banks yesterday afternoon, along with standing water in low spots in our area. Currently: 18° with very light snow falling.
