10/1/2017 8:40 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp = 53.4°; Hum = 43%; Baro = 29.29" steady; Dew Pt. = 31.6°; High cirrus clouds are filtering the sun on this cool Sunday morning. The overnight low was 44.6°.
10/2/2017 8:30 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp = 62.4°; Hum = 40%; Baro = 29.23" steady; Dew Pt. = 37.8°; It is cool and breezy this morning. The skies seem to be clearing from broken higher level clouds as the sun gains strength. It is warmer this morning than the past two mornings. It is very dry. In the last 12 days we have had 0.01" of rain.
10/3/2017 8:45 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp = 67.1°; Hum = 45%; Baro = 29.35" steady; Dew Pt. = 45.1°; It is breezy and we have broken clouds letting some sun shine through. We are still dry.
10/4/2017 9:00 AM 0.02 M M M M Temp = 70.0°; Hum = 74%; Baro = 29.35" steady; Dew Pt. = 61.3°; After 13 days without any significant rain, a whiff of mist on the car windshield and a bit of rain overnight accounts for the whopping 0.02" in the gauge this morning. (That's sarcasm, BTW.) It is overcast with the promise of more rain to come.
10/5/2017 8:25 AM 0.07 M M M M Temp = 63.1°; Hum = 88%; Baro = 29.23" steady; Dew Pt. = 59.5°; It is mostly cloudy, but the sun is finding some breaks in the clouds. We did have a bit more rain yesterday with the promise of much more overnight and into tomorrow.
10/6/2017 8:40 AM 0.24 M M M M Temp = 65.5°; Hum = 96%; Baro = 29.09" steady; Dew Pt. = 64.3°; It is lightly raining currently. We finally have some rain that is able to soak in a bit - not much, but some. More rain is forecast.
10/7/2017 9:25 AM 0.14 M M M M Temp = 71.8°; Hum = 53%; Baro = 28.76" steady; Dew Pt. = 53.8°; Well, we have had some rain over the past 2 days - a total of 0.24" + 0.14" = 0.38" - but it is far from the 1.47" forecast in the previous days. Perhaps we will get significantly more tonight as forecast. Currently, we have broken clouds overhead with thicker clouds to the NE and fewer clouds to the SW.
10/8/2017 8:35 AM 0.25 M M M M Temp = 57.6°; Hum = 90%; Baro = 28.91" steady; Dew Pt. = 54.7°; Bright sun and heavy dew replace yesterday's mostly cloudy skies and rain showers. The most rain fell in the evening after dinner. We have heavy dew this morning.
10/9/2017 8:25 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp = 59.5°; Hum = 90%; Baro = 28.94" steady; Dew Pt. = 56.6°; A cool, fall morning is quickly warming under bright sun and crystal clear skies. Heavy dew on the grass and gauge reflect the high humidity. Yesterday was a gorgeous for a Sunday afternoon walk.
10/10/2017 9:10 AM 0.00 0.0 M M M Temp = 67.1°; Hum = 74%; Baro = 29.18" steady; Dew Pt. = 58.5°; It is cloudy this morning and seasonably cool. There is a promise of rain later in the day.
10/11/2017 9:05 AM 1.31 M M M M Temp = 56.1°; Hum = 96%; Baro = 29.00" steady; Dew Pt. = 55.0°; Finally, we had a significant rain starting late afternoon yesterday and lasting far into the night. There is a great deal of frost on the gauge and roof tops. It looks like a squirrel left me a 'present' in the bottom of the gauge which is now frozen solid to the gauge. I must clean that out later today.

Last night about 6:30 pm, I cleared the driveway because the lake effect snow was beginning to slow and stop. I the driveway I measured 6.5-7.0" at about 6:30 pm. However, on my snow board this morning, I measured 5.1", and in my snow field, I measured 8.5". Therefore, we must have had some settling overnight or a difference between the amount of snow that fell on the drive in front of my house and my snow field in back of my house or both. There is bright sunshine now.

The snow field and snowboard are drifted. Therefore, after multiple measurements, I am calling it 2.9" on top of the 2.0" reported in the previous report yesterday morning. Total on the ground averaged out to 4.8". The weather report said Valpo received 5.5" as of 10 pm last night. The cold is the story this morning with an overnight low of -11° and a current temperature of 1°. A general cloudy haze is beginning to obscure the sun.

In the course of a 10 minute drive through Valparaiso, I drove through spotty sunshine with clouds, near white out conditions with large snow flakes, and bright sun melting snow that had fallen. And so it went through much of the day. The sun has melted all the snow on my snow field, but my yard is a patchwork of green grass and a half inch of snow. By the time I went to bed, about a quarter of an inch of snow covered the ground. This morning, the snow has melted except for a soggy patch on my snow board. I am calling the snow measurement a trace since I measured none of it. There was some rain mixed with the snow.

With morning temps this week in the 20's, 30's, and 40's, this morning's 60° is a welcome relief from below average temperatures over the past month. It is sunny, breezy, and clear with only a hint of haze. Last night was to bring some rain, but there is nothing in the gauge and only two small damp patches on the deck. I am calling it a trace.

The total precipitation in those 6 days has only been 1.94". However, this period has provided a good time for rain to soak into mild drought conditions improving the conditions of plants, shrubs, trees, and grass. Currently, it is overcast with early morning showers ending and wet conditions.
