A major dry thunderstorm followed. Aware of a flash of lightning at 3:22 AM Tuesday 5/15/18 I got out of bed to watch. A considerable number of cloud tops were to the west, brightly lit by internal lightning flashes. Of 25 counted flashes between 03:22 and 03:45, only one produced a roll of thunder. Thereafter, of 17 strokes counted between 03:46 and 05:08, most produced thunder. Of the few I timed, thunder began 12-15 seconds after the flash (2.5-3 miles off), lasting ca. 10-25 seconds. When I checked the rain gauge at 9:26 AM, there was only an additional 0.01” of precipitation.
