Temperature was 46F and air was calm with light rain at 6:03AM. Suddenly wind began to blow hard. At 6:08 with 0.0l" in the gauge, ice pellets the size of BB's mixed with the rain. Wind continued to blow, with gusts. By 6:20 the ice pellets mixed with the rain had turned to snow blobs mixed with the rain. The temperature remained at 46F. At 6:35 it looked more like snow than rain, but the temperature has not dropped much outside the kitchen window -- maybe by one degree F. By 9:00AM the temperature had dropped 10 degrees to 36F. At 9:00AM I collected another 0.05" for the 0.06" reported for the day. Ed |

The wind blew during most of this storm. The gauge SWE is not reflective of the actual snow fall. The depth on the new snow board was 9.0",but there was more than 12" of new snow where the snow was level in the driveway. This snow began at 6:00AM yesterday and ended at about 8:00PM. |

I am a school teacher. I tend ME-PN-30 at Old Town High School in Maine to monitor the precipitation input to an experimental watershed. I also pack up each week's total precip and take it to Doug Introne a the University of Maine. He analyzes it for heavy water isotope ratios. This will help oceanographers estimate the isotopic ratio of Gulf of Maine watershed runoff, which will help them understand heavy water isotope ratios in sediment cores from the Gulf of Maine. When I am not at school, I tend ME-PN-43, four miles down the road, in my backyard in Orono, Maine. |

Interesting little thunderstorm. There was thunder, then the rain began soon after. There was no wind, though. The rain just fell straight down, as if from a big shower head in the sky. And then it was over. A welcome relief for the garden. |

Thunderstorms passed through in the morning dropping about 0.5 inches in ten minutes, with another 0.07 accumulating at a slower rate. Then there was nothing, and nothing predicted by the weather maps, when another storm "came from out of nowhere" to quickly dump enough water to bring the total to 0.80 inches. Ed |

Dramatic thunderstorms last night here. Flashes, booms, off and on downpours amounting to 0.61" on top of the 0.01" that was in the gauge from earlier in the day. Ed |

Interestingly, I installed the CoCoRaHS gauge at the Old Town station I monitor (during the school year at Old Town High School) to record yesterday's rain event. There, only 0.47" fell. Ed |
