In fact, what is on the ground is so patchy, cannot take an accurate sample, just calling it "trace" One of the reasons for the patchiness is the dozens of wild turkeys running across my yard during the daytime. At observation time we are experiencing blizzard conditions, heavy snow and wind from the NNW at 31MPH, temperature at 26F, humidity at 94%, and barometric pressure at 29.17 and steady. It's nearly impossible to get a snow and melted snow depth due to the high wind. Some places on my yard are over a foot high due to drifting. My snow board is 9 to 5 inches in snow depth. In the gauge I have 5.8 inches of snow which melted down to 2.7 inches of water. But, I wouldn't bank on the accuracy. The blizzard warning is schedule to continue until 1AM tomorrow, with the snow stopping at 9pm tonight. Monday we finally go above freezing at 38F, and 37F with rain showers on Tuesday. Saturday and Sunday, January 13 and 14, is now calling for a mixture of rain, ice, and snow.

It is impossible to get an accurate reading on the amount of snow that fell due to the drifting. I have drifts over two feet high and areas with only 3 inches of snow. The local TV station says we received 15.7 inches of snow with no indication on the amount of melted precipitation. The overnight low was a windy 10F with a wind chill factor of -10F. At observation time it is sunny, 13F, with wind from the WNW at 24 MPH, making a wind chill of -6F. Today's high expected to be a sunny 15F with a wind chill of -5F. Warmer weather is on the way reaching 35F on Monday, with a wintry mix, 38F on Tuesday, 45F on Thursday and Friday with rain showers, and 39F on Saturday with rain.

Today's high expected to be 56F with a 100% chance of heavy rain. About one-third of my lawn is bare of snow, but there are drifts two feet deep in other areas. Still have a flood warning for our area. The rain is scheduled to continue until 10AM tomorrow with a high of 49F. Then back into the freeze are with a high on Sunday of 27F. But, it only lasts for five days as we go back above freezing on Friday. Tuesday and Wednesday we have a 40% chance of snow showers.

A good deal of the snow in my yard has melted away. Today's high expected to be a sunny 43F. We have a nice weekend in store: Sunny both days, 43 F for a high on Saturday, 37 F on Sunday. Then rain and snow mixing on Tuesday and Wednesday, but less than an inch accumulation expected.

Today's high expected to be 38 F, which is 11 degrees below normal for this date. It will be partly cloudy and windy as well. Almost all of the snow from the last storm has disappeared. Saturday and Sunday will be sunny and 39 F, Monday will be sunny and 41 F. Then another nor'easter is probable with evening snow showers on Tuesday, rain, snow and wind on Wednesday, and snow on Thursday morning. The snow could total as much as 6 inches over the three day period. Hopefully, this will be the end of the white stuff.

At observation time, the rain has stopped but looks like either it or snow could begin at any moment. It is 32 F with wind from the NNE at 14 MPH, humidity at 92%, and barometric pressure at 29.62 and falling. Today's high expected to be a snowy 35 F (16 degrees below normal for this date) as our fourth Nor'easter strikes Long Island with winds from 30 to 40 MPH and gusts well over 40 MPH. Currently there is only a dusting of snow on the ground, but when I melted the snow in the gauge it totaled .22 inches. There was .07 inches of rain in the gauge, the snow was all caught in the cup that drains into the gauge, but was blocked by the snow so I could measure the white stuff seperately. This is being called a heart attack snow as it will be very heavy and difficult to shovel. The snow is scheduled to last until 9 AM tomorrow with a total around 13 inches.

My report at 9 AM showed 5 inches of snow and the snow continued for another 90 minutes, but melted before I had a chance to measure it. It yielded .02 inches of water in the gauge. The snow fell over a 6 1/2 hour period, and mostly melted in the next 6 1/2 hours with a sunny high of 41 F. Only traces of snow were left by 5 PM. The over night low was 32 F. Today at observation time it is 39 F, cloudy, with wind from the SE at 10 MPH, humidity at 76% and barometric pressure at 30.19 and falling. Today's high expected to be 42 F with showers beginning at 1 PM, increasing to rain at 2 PM, and continuing until midnight. Then showers return at 3 AM, changing to scatter thunderstorms from 4 to 7 AM, then showers with gusty wind from 8 AM to 6 PM. Thursday looks to be a sunny day with a high of 45 F.
