Observation Date Observation Time Precipitation Snowfall Snowfall SWE Snow Depth Snow SWE Notes
7/2/2018 7:00 AM T 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 First report from OH-FR-81. Installed my CoCoRaHS Rain Gauge yesterday before any precip. A pop-up storm barely to my East at 7 pm gave no rain. Radar showed very light rain hitting my area at 11 pm but was unable to see any evidence of precip until observation, when I saw numerous raindrops on the funnel but not measurable. As a result, a "Trace" amount has been given.
7/5/2018 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 No precip since 2:00 pm on July 2.
7/6/2018 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 No rain for the last 3 days here in Hilliard, Ohio. Seems like everywhere around us has received precip. Many of these pop up storms have come so close that thunder can be heard and lightning can be sighted in the distance. The next few days look like we won't see any precip as the cold front has moved on. Our yard is somewhat dry and the plants need watered so any rain in Hilliard would be nice.
7/11/2018 9:00 AM 0.02 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Finally, some rain in Hilliard! No rain occurred from 2pm on 7/2 to 4pm on 7/10. However we did receive rain, 3 weak showers moving through from 4:22 pm to 6:22 pm and a strong shower starting at 6:24 pm and lasting until 6:30 pm. I think we needed more rain than 0.02 inches for relief, looks like the next possibility for rain is Monday (maybe Sunday).

7/24/2018 9:00 AM 0.02 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Well, all the rain stayed stationary to the east of our area, dropping "buckets" for hours according to radar. It seemed we would receive no rain until a light shower came from the south and held it's act together to drop 0.02 inches of rain. Rain occurred from 10:46 to 11:09 pm. Dew was present on the gauge at the time of observation, was a foggy morning here in Hilliard!

7/27/2018 9:00 AM 0.03 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Rained lightly 4 different times between 9:48 pm to 11:32 pm, heavy for a minute at 11:15 pm. Turns out all the stronger storms BARELY went to my north, three different smaller lines of storms impacting Dublin but of course not as bad at Hilliard. All they gave was brief light showers, the second gave the stronger rain for under a minute. All the rain added together ended in 0.03 inches, bringing the OH-FR-81 monthly total to 1.47 inches.

8/2/2018 10:27 AM T 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 A trace of rain fell after gauge was emptied at the same time yesterday. There was rain in the gauge but not enough to reach 0.01 inches, so a trace amount has been given.
8/3/2018 10:49 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00
8/4/2018 9:25 AM T 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Almost all of the precip found a way to avoid my location with the exception of sprinkles from 4:01 to 4:41 pm. Was not enough to accumulate to 0.01 inches. I saw lightning 5 or 6 times at around 10:30 pm, but that storm went north of our area and gave us no precip.

8/7/2018 7:00 AM 0.07 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Rain (or precip) began at around 2:10 AM as a line of storms rolled in to the Hilliard and Columbus area, lasting throughout the night. I do recall hearing thunder once at 2:29 AM just before I got some shuteye. During observation, it was NOT raining but overcast skies were present. 0.07 inches is a new daily precip record for OH-FR-81, surpassing the previous record of 0.03 inches. Hooray!
8/8/2018 8:45 AM 0.54 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 There we go, another new daily precip record for OH-FR-81! 0.54 inches beats yesterday's total of 0.07 inches by a huge margin! Had a very busy day yesterday. However, the precip held off until 4:31 pm, during my 2-3 hour break in between events. I was able to document that storm flaring up due to the instability in the air. The rain lasted around 19 minutes until 4:50 pm, accompanied by heavy rain and gusty winds at times. I went outside to check the rain gauge once the storm was over and the lightning threat diminished, there was 0.20 inches of rain. Other than that 2-3 hour break, I was busy that day from 7:30 in the morning to 10:00 that night. Around 11:00 pm while relaxing, I checked the radar to see another area of thunderstorms near Dayton heading our way. Unfortunately I fell asleep by accident around the time when the storm struck Springfield. Looks like the storm hit us indeed, as 0.34 more inches of rain fell overnight. I woke up this morning and found out I fell asleep before the storm, but more rain was coming our way. Knowing this would be my chance, I run out to check the gauge at 8:45 am to see the 0.54 inches of rain, along with an earwig inside the gauge, the third since I begun on CoCoRaHS. No other insects have found their way into the gauge, just three earwigs. Pretty strange but interested to know the cause! Started raining just minutes after checking and emptying the gauge, that was a close call!
8/14/2018 8:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Decent amount of dew on the rain gauge.
8/15/2018 9:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00
8/16/2018 9:00 AM 0.29 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Very, very light drizzle falling at the observation time. Got a good thunderstorm at around 7 and likely some rain through the overnight hours into the morning.
8/17/2018 9:00 AM 0.91 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 New daily precip record for OH-FR-81! Let me just say, thunder have me a scare last night at around 1:30 am, sounded like it was right in our front yard. Scared me so bad! More lightning and thunder continued until 2:20 am. Afternoon showers yesterday gave 0.36 inches of precip, so the storms from the nighttime and this morning provided 0.55 inches. Another nice rainfall!
8/18/2018 9:00 AM 0.61 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Another good rain day. Heavy rain was on and off starting at 11:00 am and ending around 12:00 pm. No hail or damage. 0.47 inches fell during the day and 0.14 inches fell during the night.
8/19/2018 11:30 AM 0.19 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Oops, forgot to check earlier. Sorry about that, there were light sprinkles at 2:35 pm and missed out on the storm(s) that dropped the 0.19 inches in the evening. I checked the rain gauge at 10:15 pm when I could and saw it at 0.19 inches, meaning it didn't rain overnight. We have got some good rain lately, that is for sure! The month of August has had 5.89 inches of rain so far, that is a lot!
8/25/2018 7:00 AM 0.00 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00

8/27/2018 7:00 AM T 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Storm scraped our area a little after 6 pm. As it was approaching, I was coming home and to my North-Northeast was what appeared to be a wall cloud. Maybe it was, I snipped some pictures of it though. There was a bit of rotation on radar too. Interesting!
9/2/2018 9:00 AM 0.80 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 A lot of rain to begin the month, starting with a slight drizzle at 11:45 am resulting in a trace amount of rain.  A storm began at around 1:50 pm, lasting around 10-30 minutes.  Another storm began at around 4 pm, and this one was much worse.  Based on the brief glimpses I could see and what I could hear, this storm lasted up to an hour potentially.  In fact, I was told by someone that Hilliard Rome Rd was flooded by what he thought was 8-10 inches, forcing him to turn around.  Another told me that a pond near Leap (and Davidson?) Roads was so high it was about to flood the road.  Three others described the storm as a "monsoon", all from the Hilliard area.  I wish I would've seen this, but that's all of the information I have.  Due to these reports and since OH-FR-81 is in proximity of Leap and Hilliard Rome Rd, I have selected the "minor flooding" option below.

9/9/2018 7:00 AM 2.30 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Wow! New rainfall record for OH-FR-81! Rained almost all day during dawn yesterday. Crazy! Remnants of Gordon have dropped a ton of rain! No reports of flooding to me but wow, crazy day of rain!

9/11/2018 7:00 AM 0.01 0.0 0.00 0.0 0.00 Updated from 0.00 inches. Thought the remnant water that sticks to the rain gauge from the last dump accumulated to 0.01 inches. A few drops fell out when a dump was attempted. I did not see any rainfall but since every report around me states that a bit of rainfall fell, I have updated the report to 0.01 inches.

7/3/2018 7/04/2018 7:30 AM 2 0.10 0.0 0.00 All 0.10 inches of rain came on 7/2, as at 1:12 pm rainfall began. From 1:19 pm - 1:31 pm was the heaviest rainfall, taking frequent but brief breaks. Rainfall lasted until approximately around 1:53 pm. No additional rainfall would fall that day. On 7/3, we got no rainfall. Despite being a few pop-up storms in our proximity from 4:30 pm - 9:00 pm, we received no rainfall. Just a lot of thunder and a rainbow lasting a whole hour. It was pretty fasinating watching the storm clouds in person!
7/7/2018 7/10/2018 8:08 AM 4 0.00 0.0 0.00 No rain for the last week here. The lawns of Hilliard are dry and have needed to water the plants so hopefully we break through and do get rain today.
7/15/2018 7/23/2018 9:00 AM 9 1.30 0.0 0.00 Finally some good rain! Makes it 1.42 inches of rain for the month of July and this station (began 7/1). Unfortunately I was unable to do day-by-day reports of this rainfall, there will be a lot of multi-day reports done by this station (OH-FR-81) as I have to live in two separate houses and spend an equal amount of time at each, and my rain gauge is at one of the two. Thought I'd cover up on that, hoping for a little more rain comes down on Hilliard as we are still below average for rainfall. The forecast is looking promising for rain, so we'll see!
7/29/2018 8/01/2018 10:26 AM 4 0.80 0.0 0.00 0.80 inches of precip since my last report. Light Rain was falling at the time of observation. This puts thr OH-FR-81 rain gauge at a total of 2.27 inches for the month of July. I began reporting for CoCoRaHS a month ago now, and look forward to continue reporting.

8/11/2018 8/13/2018 11:00 AM 3 3.20 0.0 0.00 At last, a nice downpour for the Hilliard area. It rained a ton during the morning and afternoon of 8/11 according to radar and my other house's location, approximately 2.3 miles East North-East of my other house and rain gauge location. This makes 3.89 inches of rain for the month of August. I wish I could've made daily reports for the past few days but oh well, still a nice rainfall nonetheless as this OH-FR-81 precip report totals out to being more than all other reports combined!

8/28/2018 9/01/2018 11:15 AM 5 0.02 0.0 0.00 That wraps up the month of August. The total rainfall for OH-FR-81 for the month is 6.64 inches, almost tripled my July total! I'be been on CoCoRaHS for 2 months now and have enjoyed every bit of it. Thank you to CoCoRaHS and the NWS for the hard work put in with monitoring the weather and keeping our community safe and weather aware.
9/4/2018 9/08/2018 7:00 AM 5 1.55 0.0 0.00 For the first time in my CoCoRaHS career I had to wait for a small break in the rain. There was one nearby at 7 so emptied rain gauge and bigger cylinder at the "break", ran the upper cylinder back outside, measured and brought out the smaller tune outside again. Fun. This is a big weekend for OH-FR-81, with the remnants of Gordon striking and potentially producing multiple inches of rain. Checked the rain gauge at 10:00 pm on 9/7 to see 0.83 inches of rain, meaning there was 0.72 inches of precip through the overnight hours.
9/15/2018 9/18/2018 7:00 AM 4 0.08 0.0 0.00 From the remnants of Florence. Decided to stay east of Columbus for the most part.
9/22/2018 9/30/2018 7:00 AM 9 1.81 0.0 0.00 Was able to measure 0.34 inches at 2:45 pm on 9/24 and an additional 0.13 inches at 5:00 pm later that day. 1.34 inches at measurement.
