Snow began 9:35 AM, very light at first, then became substantial by 11 AM and continued steadily with little variability in intensity (high-end light to low-end moderate) till nearly 7 PM, then ended completely at 9:05 PM. Snow fell frequently as very large flakes and was slightly wet which likely explained the very high melt ratio which is quite unusual for here. When flakes were smaller, the snow accumulated at a more usual 10:1 ratio. Untreated paved surfaces remained wet till after 3 PM when nearly 5" had accumulated on the snow board and eventually accumulated 1" to 1.5" so that only minimal shoveling was needed. However, paved overpasses became snow-covered and slick almost immediately. Despite the fluffiness, much snow still clung to wires, small tree branches, and vertical surfaces and even stacked to 5 to 6 inches tall on 1-inch wide railings. |
